Theme: Gender Equality and Health

Today, on the 4th of December, 2021, the Dr. Giri Lal Gupta Institute of Public Health and Public Affairs, celebrated the Phase-III of Mission Shakti. The theme of the program was „Gender Equality and Health‟. Mission Shakti was launched by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in October, 2020 with an emphasis on safety, dignity, empowerment and ensuring the rights of women and girls. It also focuses on the rights of children, sexual crime against women and girls and adoption of orphaned girls. Hon’ble Vandana Mishra PPS (Dy. Commandant) was invited as the Chief Guest for the event. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Shalie Malik, the Coordinator of the Institute. She introduced the guest to the attendees and went on with the formal deliberations of the event. She invited the Chief Guest to share her views. Mrs. Mishra highlighted the important unaddressed issues on the topic of ‘Gender Equality and Health’, emphasizing the inequality and discrimination faced by women/ girls. She also highlighted the importance of girl education, women health and empowerment through her lecture. She also discussed about the significant roles as citizens of state that one must follow. Due to some technical glitches the Convener (Mission Shakti, Phase-III) for the event, Prof. Madhurima Lall joined later in the session but her presence itself made it worthwhile. She shared her views and ideas on the theme for the day as well as she encouraged larger participation in such events. Dr. Anjali (Faculty member) played a key role in managing the students. Students and teachers showed up actively in good numbers. There were more than 123 active attendees. Session was formally closed by the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Varun Chhachhar (Coordinator- Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Institute of Democracy), followed by Mission Shakti- Oath taking ceremony. The event was live streamed on YouTube.
