1.2 About Industry

India is the 2nd largest maker of concrete in the world. India's concrete industry is an

essential part of its economy, giving work to in excess of a million people,

straightforwardly. As far in the past as it was deregulated in 1982, the Indian bond

industry has pulled in huge ventures, both from Indian just as outside financial

specialists.

- India has lot of potential for improvement in the development and foundation

segment and the concrete field is relied upon to a great extent profit by it. A portion

of the ongoing activities, for example, advancement of 98 brilliant urban communities

are depend upon to give a noteworthy lift to the segment.

- Expecting such advanced development in the nation and supported by

government international strategies, a few players, for example, Lafarge-Holcim,

Heidelberg Cement, and Vicat have put their resources into the nation in the ongoing

past. A big factor which helps the development of this part is the prepared

13 | P a g e

accessibility of the crude materials for making concrete, for example, coal &

limestone.

Market Size: Bond creation limit remained at 502 million tons for every year (mtpy) in 2018. Limit

expansion of 20 million tons for every annum (MTPA) is normal in FY19-FY 21.

The Indian bond industry is commanded by some of organizations. The best 20

cement organizations represent around 70 percent of the complete bond creation of

the nation. A sum of 210 huge bond plants represent a combined introduced limit of

more than 410 million tons, with 350 little plants representing the rest. Of these 210

large bond plants, 77 are located in the conditions of Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan

and Tamil Nadu.

Investments: As mentioned by information given by the department of industrial policy and

promotion (DIPP), concrete and gypsum items pulled in FDI worth US$ 5.28 billion

between April 2000 and March 2018.

A part of the real interests in Indian cement industry are as per the following:

• As of December 2018, Raysut Cement Company is intending to put US$ 700

million in India by 2022.

• During 2017-18, Ultratech appointed a greenfield clinker plant with a limit of

2.5 MTPA and a concrete granulating office with 1.75 MTPA limit in Dhar, Madhya

Pradesh. The organization is hoping to finish a 1.75 MTPA bond crushing office and

a 13 MW waste warmth recuperation framework by September 2018 at a similar

area.

ORGANIZATION STUDY & HR BEST PRACTICES AT VCF

14 | P a g e

Government Initiatives: In order to help the private division organizations flourish in the business, the govt.

has been promoting their speculation plans. Whatever activities by the govt. in the

ongoing past are as per the following:

In union budget 2018-19, GOI reported setting up of an affordable housing fund of

Rs 25k crore under the NHB (National housing bank ) which will be used for

providing credit to homebuyers. The decision is required to support the interest of

cement from the lodging section.

Road ahead :

The states which are in the eastern side of India are probably going to be the more

up to date and virgin markets for cement industry and may add to their main concern

in coming years. In the following 10 years, India could turn into the primary exporter

of clinker and dim concrete to the Middle East, Africa, and other creating countries of

the world. Bond plants which are close to the ports, for example the plants in

Visakhapatnam & Gujrat, will have an extra favorable conditions for fares and will

strategically be very much outfitted to confront solid challenge from concrete plants

in the inside of the country.

Because of the expanding the business request in different segments, for example

business development and modern development, lodging, bond industry is depend

upon to arrive at 550-600 (MTPA) continuously upto 2025.

Porter’s five force model

Threat of new entrants: This decides how simple (or not) it is to enter a particular

industry. In the event that an industry is productive and there are not many

boundaries to enter. VCF also facing this as many Competitors are coming in that

region for example Dalmia cements, Shree cement & etc. But it is giving tough

competition. Risk of new participants is high when:

• medium measure of capital is required to enter a market;

• Existing organizations can do little to fight back;

• Existing firms don't have licenses, trademarks or don't have set up brand

notoriety;

• There is no administration guideline;

rivalry

ORGANIZATION STUDY & HR BEST PRACTICES AT VCF

16 | P a g e

• Customer exchanging expenses are low.

• There is low client unwaveringness;

• Products are almost indistinguishable;

• Economies of scale can be effectively accomplished.

Bargaining power of suppliers : As VCF has solid dealing force it enables

providers to sell more extravagant or low quality raw materials to their purchasers.

This straightforwardly influences the purchasing firms' benefits since it needs to pay

more for materials. Providers have solid bartering power when:

• There are not many providers yet numerous purchasers;

• Suppliers are huge and take steps to advance

• Few substitute crude materials exist;

• Suppliers hold rare assets;

• Cost of exchanging crude materials is particularly high.

Bargaining power of customers : VCF has its customer across the country &

mainly in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. Purchasers have the ability to

request lower cost or higher item quality from industry makers when their bartering

force is solid. Lower value means lower incomes for the maker, while more excellent

items as a rule raise generation costs. The two situations bring about lower benefits

for makers. Purchasers apply solid haggling power when:

ORGANIZATION STUDY & HR BEST PRACTICES AT VCF

17 | P a g e

• Buying in enormous amounts or control many passages to the last client;

• Only couple of purchasers exist;

• Switching expenses to other provider are low;

• They threaten to in reverse incorporate

• There are numerous substitutes;

• Buyers are value touchy.

Threat of substitutes : Some times VCF faces this threat because of various

reasons & competitors are one of them. This power is particularly compromising

when purchasers can without much of a stretch discover substitute items with

alluring costs or better quality and when purchasers can change starting with one

item or administration then onto the next with little cost. For instance, to change from

espresso to tea doesn't cost anything, in contrast to changing from vehicle to bike.

Competitor’s rivalry : VASAVADATTA CEMENT COMPANY is a much

experienced & 40 years old company. It is facing this threat because many cement

companies have started their production in that region like SHREE CEMENT, VICAT

SAGAR, ACC CEMENT, CHETTINAD CEMENTS & DALMIA CEMENT IS ABOUT

TO START. This power is the significant determinant on how aggressive and

beneficial an industry is. In focused industry, firms need to contend forcefully for a

part of the overall industry, which results in low benefits. Contention among

contenders is serious when:

• There are numerous contenders;

• Exit boundaries are high;

ORGANIZATION STUDY & HR BEST PRACTICES AT VCF

18 | P a g e

• Industry of development is moderate or negative;

• Products are not separated and can be effectively substituted;

• Competitors are of equivalent size;

• Low client dependability.

PRODUCTS

Cement is a binder that’s used to produce concrete. There are many types of cement

for use in different applications. The properties of cement can also be differentiated

through additives.

ORGANIZATION STUDY & HR BEST PRACTICES AT VCF

25 | P a g e

Chapter 3 - SWOC ANALYSIS

3.1 STRENGTH:

• The use of German technology.

• Low cost of production.

• Brand name of Sri B.K.BIRLA.

• BSC is one of the global leaders in cement technology.

• KIL Cement Division is an award-winning cement manufacturer.

• The company possesses ISO – 14001 for quality, ISO – 9001 for

environmental protection & OHSAS – 18001 for safety.

• Cosistent and compressive quality.

• Enduring advertisers with low budget.

• Quick delivery of products.

• Fast accounting system and immediate problem solving.

• The plant has integrated the latest computerized digital process, x-ray

3.3 OPPORTUNITIES

• Robust demand: High cement to be driven by govt.’s focus on infrastructure

and housing for all by 2022.

• Opportunities available in areas such as housing, dedicated freight corridors,

ports, and otherv infrastructure projects.

• Long term potential: The sector holds large players with partial price control

and low threat from substitutes.

• Increasing investment: FDI flows in industry related to manufacturing cements

& gypsum products reached US$ 5.28 billion between April 2000 and

December 2018.

3.4 CHALLENGES

• High competition in the region. Because many cement companies are there in

the region and more companies are planning to start their cement factory.

• Lack of natural resources like limestone, water & etc.

Chapter 4 - OUTCOMES OF THE STUDY

Tool used for HR best practices is Bloom’s taxonomy.

1. CREATE

2. EVALUATE

3. ANALYZE

4. APPLY

5. UNDERSTAND

6. REMEMBER

As Bloom’s taxonomy says, in VCF we learnt how to analyse the work

situation, how to apply the concepts of business using tools whether it may be

Mckinsey 7s model, porters 5 force model & SWOT analysis. We have also

understood how to classify concept according to the work & here we got a

opportunity to remember & share our basic concepts which we had learnt in

our MBA classes. So, below & in experience learning I have mentioned some

points which I have learnt in this internship in VCF.

Professional correspondences :

Working in an expert setting just because can be hard to become accustomed to.

Yet, it is the right approach to figure out how to explore the functioning scene

through reality, hands-on involvement.

One of the most profitable aptitudes we will pick up from an entry level position is the

capacity to talk with individuals in an expert setting. Talks with supervisors or

collaborators are not quite the same as exchanges with instructors or individual

understudies.

Better thought of the suitable method to act as an expert :

Networking is significant in light of the fact that this is the manner in which individuals

will know what our identity is and what we are about and in particular – recollect us.

Taking valuable analysis well.

ORGANIZATION STUDY & HR BEST PRACTICES AT VCF

28 | P a g e

Making associations :

Notwithstanding the individuals who will be our references later on, we should

attempt to leave our entry level position with new associations: senior workers,

customers, individual assistants, and so forth.

These individuals can give direction, counsel and help us in future occupation

searches.we must keep them on the up and up on where we are in our vocation, and

offer to help them at whatever point we can.

Assistant life can be extreme, and we just get a brief timeframe to establish a long

term connection. It is an extraordinary chance to pick up involvement, make

companionships and learn.

And

Pragmatic information of how an association truly functions and learning of the board

conceps. Figured out how offices are kept up and how they are partitioned by the

different work fields like HR, MARKETING, FINANCE, PRODUCTION, SALES,

LOGISTICS and so forth.

income-generation projects like agriculture, animal husbandry, cottage industries by

developing local skills, using local raw materials and helping create marketing

outlets. These are the important areas that they endeavour to make a difference in.

AFFORESTATION

have designated a green belt development site at their plants for afforestation. So

far, a total of 14,91,806 samplings have been planted and harvested.

mine and colony premises. Their efforts in driving environmental conservation

projects such as this reinforce their philosophy of sustainable development and

caring for the community.

not only to children of employees but also to children from village areas, who do not

have access to any information or education.

Their schools maintain high standards and are open to other children of the vicinity.

These schools are often the preferred centres of learning in the district and adjoining

areas. Their goal is to give everyone a chance at having an education.

MEDICAL CARE

They take pride in providing various forms of medical assistance to their employees

and families, as well as to those who are living in surrounding villages.

capabilities through skills development and training, as well as by promoting

excellence in indentified cultural fields. To achieve their objective, there is a

dedicated training and development team that operates solely on such development

intiatives.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

Their plant generates both non - hazardous and hazardous waste during the

manufacturing of cement. Major waste include used battery, used oil, MS scrap, PP

burst bags, alumina fire brick, overburden in mine, etc.

However, They make constant efforts to recycle and reuse the waste generated out

of their own operations and waste generated by other industries like pharma. Only

waste that cannot be utilised effectively is being disposed off.

In managing their waste output, They are also utilising waste generated in other

industries as alternative fuel for their manufacturing plants. They have a tie-up with

the govt. of Goa to procure waste which will be used as alternate fuel input.

They strive to spread awareness on conserving water in their operations and families

of employees, by implementing a number of water recycling and harvesting and

Chapter 5 - EXPERIENCE , LEARNING & CONCLUSION

5.1 Experience and learning

In VCF we learnt :

1. Cooperation

The primary thing we have to make reference to is unquestionably cooperation. our

temporary job experience is not normal for your school venture where one individual

did basically everything and the evaluations were shared among the rest.

In a temporary job, we figure out how to function as a group without concentrating

completely on ourself. we likewise create tolerance in circumstances when we can't

help contradicting another member(s) of the group.

2. Critical thinking Skills

A temporary job acquaints us with genuine work issues and subsequently builds up

our critical thinking aptitudes.

3. Hard working attitudes

We won't generally find out about hard working attitudes until we are in an

unmistakable workplace. In school training, we are accustomed to rationalizing late

entries, short participation and so forth! In any case, it is just when we are

acquainted with the genuine condition that we learn hard working attitudes.

4. Versatility Skills

Not every person is versatile from the earliest starting point. Being versatile to our

surroundings positively & effectively is one of the most valuable delicate aptitudes

alluring to bosses as well as imperative to our self-development.

5. Relational abilities

It is important ability that scouts search for in a resume and something that can get

us from base to top. Conveying great is a jewel of an aptitude which we can pick up

during our temporary job encounters.

6. Duty

Being capable is a necessary expertise required in the activity field. our temporary

job experience makes us progressively capable and responsible for what choices we

make and how we execute what's been assigned to us.

7. Time Management

During a temporary position which is nearly the start of our work life, we can't check

our nonattendance all the time.

Henceforth, it causes us to learn and deal with our time better by keeping up a

harmony between our work and individual life, without hurting any of them.

8. Likewise adapted some administration characteristics :

Step by step instructions to take activities, how to go out on a limb and deal with the

dangers. Additionally I have watched and figured out how to settle on choices on

different point of view whether it might be little or big to us.

employees can be improved. It will give much better results.

• VCF is doing good social work & it has more capability & it should conduct

more social works like telling importance of education, health awareness & etc

in the town & surrounding villages.

5.3 CONCLUSION

Soft skills are equally important as hard skills, if not more. If you are an academic

genius, you won’t reach far without exploiting your soft skills and hence it becomes

important to learn these skills early in our life. So, it is important to make the most

out of our internship experiences and learn all that it has to offer.

To run an organization successfully it is important to have better organizational

structure.

Its is important to take firm decisions, better strategy planning, working &

coordination of different departments like HR, MARKETING & SALES, FINANCE,

PRODUCTION, PROCESS, LOGISTICS, LEGAL DEPT & etc.

Also it is very important to adapt & implement new technology, market trends & legal

systems.

We need to keep Demography, local culture, Customer demand, resources, law,

Government & etc in mind. It is necessary to have strong supply chain management.

By keeping all these in mind,

• Performance of the organization in recent years is very good & satisfactory. If

we compare to its previous records it has a good command over the market

and VCF has been able to utilize the strength & its opportunities to their best

level.

• VCF has been appreciated for its energy conservation at all levels.

• The company is growing every year in cement production.

• With the establishment of the 4th unit VCF is going to achieve more

production and a fittest competitor in the market.
