MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAMIN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: TURKEY, EUROPE, AND THE MIDDLE EAST

* Master of Arts Program in International Relations: Turkey, Europe, and the Middle East (MIR) has establisted in 2013 based on the revised curriculum of the MAPES(Master of Arts Program in European Studies) taught at Boğaziçi University between 2002 and 2012. MIR offers a solid training in the politics, economics and history of Europe, Turkey and the Middle East. It provides new visions and concrete tools of assessment and analysis for any professional.

* MIR is an international and interdisciplinary program not only with its curriculum and faculty, but especially with its students who come from the Balkans, the US, Europe, Turkey, Middle East and the Far East. The program's curriculum brings together faculty members from political science and international relations, economics, modern Turkish studies, history and sociology.

* The requirements for graduation consist of completing thirty-six credits of course work that includes six required, four elective courses and a term project. The non-thesis program has one-year duration which lasts three semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer) to complete, and it runs in parallel with the academic calendar of Boğaziçi University. The thesis MIR program has a two-year duration with two semesters (Fall and Spring) in each.

* Students who have successfully completed the requirements of the Program will be awarded an MA (Master of Arts) degree in International Relations: Turkey, Europe, and the Middle East.

* The program's language of instruction is English. Candidates must therefore provide valid proof of their English language skills at the time of their application. (Please see the part"application conditions and procedures" for more information.)

* MIR is a fee-based program.

* In order to apply, students should have anundergraduate degree in social sciences orhumanities. Applicants from science andengineering backgrounds may also be considered.Prior academic and professional experience iswelcome but not required.

CAREER OPTIONS FOR THE GRADUATES

* Some graduates benefit from MIR by finding public or private sector jobs, others by advancing in their current positions, others by turning to new career paths, and yet others by continuing with a doctoral degree.

* Some of our former graduates are currently employed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade Commissions of EU Member States, the United Nations, Economic Development Foundation (İKV), Habertürk, WWF-Turkey, companies such as İşbank, Arçelik, Vestel, GfK Turkey, Kraft and media groups l ike NTV, Universal Music Turkey, as well as academic posts of national and international universities.

* The program encourages internships with international relations related institutions and is actively seeking internship possibilities with İKV, NATO, TÜSİAD Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Turkish Secretariat General for EU Affairs (ABGS), Médecins Sans Frontière, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV), İstanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO), Center for Economic and Foreign Policy Research (EDAM), Eurohorizons etc.

APPLICATIONS AND ADMISSION

Application Conditions and Procedures

Application to MIR requires uploading of the following documents to the electronic application system of the Boğaziçi University:

1. Application form (available on the ElectronicApplication System).2. A bank statement as a proof of payment of theapplication fee. For payment details please emailor call the MIR office.3. A soft copy of the undergraduate diploma mustbe uploaded to the application system. Theapplicants who have not yet received theirdiplomas can present an official letter from theiruniversities certifying their graduation.4. A soft copy of the official transcript ofundergraduate (and graduate, if any) courses andgrades.

For non-thesis program, a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.00/4.00 or 50/100 and for thesis program, a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.50/4.00 or 75/100 is required.5. 6. Official proofs of English proficiency:- TOEFL: In the paper-based test (TOEFL PBT), aminimum total score of 550 with a minimum scoreof 4.5 in the TWE section (Test of Written English);or in the internet-based test (TOEFL iBT), aminimum total score of 79 with a minimum score of22 in the ‘Writing’ section.- IELTS: A minimum combined score of 6.5 with aminimum score of 6.5 in the ‘Writing’ section.- BUEPT (Boğaziçi University English ProficiencyTest): A minimum score of ‘C’.Important note: All exam scores of English proficiency should be valid at the time of your application.7. For the thesis program, foreign students should provide GRE score while Turkish students can present ALES score if they wish. A minimum total score of 146 in the "Verbal Reasoning" Section ofGRE Revised General Test (400 according to oldscale or "GRE General Test"), a minimum total scoreof 154 in the "Quantitative Reasoning" Section ofGRE Revised General Test (610 according to oldscale or "GRE General Test"), and a minimum totalscore of 3.5 in the "Analytical Writing" Section ofGRE Revised General Test (3.5 according to oldscale or "GRE General Test") is required. For ALES,minimum score of 70 is required in EquallyWeighted section.

AdmissionAdmission to MIR requires:a. A complete application package to be

submitted by the announced deadline,b. An interview.
