Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest, broadest, and best-established engineering disciplines. Simultaneously, this dis-cipline is also constantly changing and evolving in response tonew scientific discoveries and societal needs. The Faculty ofMechanical Engineering as a part of the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”University in Skopje reflects the oldyetnew character of thediscipline itself.The Faculty offers a variety of study programs, which comprisedisciplines from both the fundamental engineering sciences thatrepresent the core of mechanical engineering, and the modernscientific disciplines dedicated to engineering analyses andconcepts younger than two decades.All of the new study programs are created in accordance with theEuropean higher education system and the scientific achievements.They are closely related to the Faculty’s basic mission to providehigh standards in education of highly competent and skilledengineers competitive on the global labor market.This year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering celebrates its 50Anniversary. Since the foundation of the Faculty, we have awardeda great number of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees inmechanical engineering. We are proud to say that all of them arenow successful and respected professionals. Many of them areleaders of world famous companies or have started their ownbusiness and, using the competencies and the knowledge gainedfrom the studies at our Faculty, they have created companies thatrank very high on the international market.The teaching staff, responsible for the success of the students, isconsisted of distinguished educators and professionals. They havebeen active participants in many national and internationaleducational, scientific and applicative projects. Most of them haveworked as visiting professors at notable universities all over theworld. Taking part in important conferences and congresses,publishing their research accomplishings in renowned professionalperiodicals and using prestigious international scholarships, theyare constantly working on their professional and personaldevelopment. Besides the important role that they have ineducation, the members of our teaching staff are known in theindustry as experts.The professors and the collaborators of the Faculty of MechanicalEngineering in Skopje are ready to take the challenges that thenew technologies bring and to follow their mission giving theircontribution to the education of mechanical engineers whosevisions, expertise and talents will lead to development of thesociety; engineers who will be prepared for the process of lifelonglearning as the main challenge of the 21st century and in that wayhelp the process of the Euro-atlantic integration of the Republic ofMacedonia.

Ma{inskiot fakultet, kako edinica na Univerzitetot “Sv.

Kiril i Metodij“ vo Skopje, ja reflektira evolucijata i

staro-novata dimenzija na ma{instvoto kako in`enerska

disciplina i svojot razvoj go naso~uva kon kompatibilnost

so sovremenite industriski tekovi i so studiskite progra-

mi na svetski renomiranite univerziteti.

Fakultetot nudi studiski programi bogati, od edna strana,

so disciplini koi gi pokrivaat fundamentalnite in`ener-

ski nauki – jadro na ma{instvoto, a od druga strana nudi

sovremeni nau~ni disciplini posveteni na in`enerskite

analizi i koncepti koi duri i ne postoele 20 godini porano.

Novite studiski programi se vo soobraznost so evropskiot

visokoobrazoven sistem i so dostignuvawa vo naukata, a seto

toa vo korelacija so osnovnata misija na Fakultetot da

ovozmo`i ispolnuvawe na visokite me|unarodni standardi

i obrazuvawe in`enerski kadar so kompetencii i ve{tini

konkurentni na globalniot pazar na trudot.

Ma{inskiot fakultet ovaa godina ja slavi 50-godi{ninata

od svoeto postoewe i se gordee so brojni diplomirani

studenti, magistri i doktori po ma{instvo, site respek-

tirani i uspe{ni in`eneri. Zna~itelen broj od niv denes

se lideri na svetski renomirani kompanii ili imaat

zapo~nato sopstveni biznisi ili izgradile kompanii koi

uspe{no prodiraat na me|unarodniot pazar, iskoristuvaj}i

go znaeweto steknato na fakultetot.

Za uspehot na studentite se gri`i nastaven kadar, doka`an

i prepoznaen na nacionalno i me|unarodno nivo, kadar so

aktivno u~estvo vo brojni nacionalni i me|unarodni nau~no-

istra`uva~ki i aplikativni proekti, na vrvni konfe-

rencii i kongresi, objavuvaj}i nau~ni dostignuvawa vo

renomirani spisanija, koristej}i presti`ni me|unarodni

stipendii, realiziraj}i aktivnosti kako viziting-profe-

sori na pove}e katedri po ma{instvo vo celiot svet i kako

prepoznatlivi eksperti vo industrijata.

zvicite na naprednite tehnologii i vo svojata edukativna

Kulturnoto i istoriskoto nasledstvo na Makedonija e staropove}e od eden milenium. Prviot univerzitet vo Republika Makedonija oficijalnobe{e formiran so Zakonot za Univerzitetot vo Skopje,donesen od Narodnoto sobranie na Narodna RepublikaMakedonija na 26 januari 1949 godina.

The cultural and historical heritage of Macedonia is more than onemillennium old. The magnificent Literary School of St. Clement ofOhrid the first Slavic University established in the 9th century bystudents of the Holly Brothers Cyril and Methodius, with its morethan 3500 students, has left a big cultural heritage and a bigimpetus for the development of other centres of this kind inMacedonia and in other Slavic countries.

The creation of the Macedonian higher education system in all ofits domains was an expedited process, conducted in accordancewith the modern world and European trends. The beginnings ofthe higher education system of today date just after the termina-tion of the Second World War, with the creation of the People’sRepublic of Macedonia in the frames of the Federative People’sRepublic of Yugoslavia.

The first state university, the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University,was founded on January 26th, 1949, with the passing of the Lawon the University, adopted by the People’s Assembly.

Razvojnite tendencii na Univerzitetot vo tekot na{estdeceniskiot razvoj bele`at zabrzan podem voprepoznatliva i respektirana dr`avna visokoobrazovnainstitutcija. Po izvr{enoto usoglasuvawe so Zakonot zavisokoto obrazovanie od 2008 godina, Univerzitetot „Sv.Kiril i Metodij“ vo Skopje go so~inuvaat: 21 fakultet, 5nau~ni instituti, 1 pridru`a ~lenka fakultet, 5 pridru`ni~lenki nau~ni instituti i 5 drugi pridru`ni organizaciiod stopanstvoto i nevladiniot sektor. Vo obrazoven pro-ces na Univerzitetot „Sv. Kiril i Metodij“ se vklu~eni:36 000 studenti od Republika Makedonija i okolu 700stranski studenti, nad 2 600 profesori i sorabotnici, nad100 000 diplomirani i visokostru~ni profesionalci,okolu 5 000 magistri i nad 2 000 doktori na nauki od siteobrazovni i istra`uva~ki oblasti.

Today, the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje representsa functional community of twenty-one faculties, five institutes andone auxiliary member-faculty, five auxiliary members scientificinstitutes, and five other auxiliary organizations from industry andnon-governmental organizations. Expressed in figures, presentlythe “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University has over 36 000 studentsfrom the Republic of Macedonia and about 700 foreign students,and over 2 600 lecturers and associates. More than 100 000holders of Bachelor’s degree, around 5 000 Master’s degreeholders and over 2 000 holders of doctorates in all domains ofteaching and research gain their education from this University.

Today, six decades after its foundation, with its own resources andown intellectual strength, the University continues to set the stand-ards and traces the road towards an even more progressive andcivilized society. Cyril and Methodius” University, the larg-est and most sophisticated centre of education, culture, arts andsciences in the Republic of Macedonia, accepts the current changesimposed by the modern age and looks upon them as a civilizingmission of the European universities. In order to respond to thechallenges of globalization and global pluralism, the Universityneeds to be flexible, ready to accept the changes and to be wellprepared to participate in international associations and programs.

In accordance with the development of scientific, technological andeducational transformations, the international cooperation of the“Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University is focused on taking an activepart in the European educational and research programs, suchas: TEMPUS, ERASMUS, SOCRATES, the framework programs6 and 7, the Academic Network of Universities in Capital cities inEurope (UNICA), the regional central-east-European initiatives forcooperation with the Mediterranean and neighboring countries onthe Balkans (CEEPUS, CEI, CIRCEOS).

The “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University develops long-term inter-university cooperation. The University has signed more than 70bilateral agreements on cooperation in various domains of teach-ing and research with universities from many countries in Europeand throughout the world. This cooperation is effectuated throughthe exchange of teaching staff and students, joint research projectsand seminars.

Skopje is the administrative, educational, cultural and businesscenter of the Republic of Macedonia. It was established under thename of Skupi, between 13th and 11th century B.C., during thereign of the Emperor Octavian Augustus. Throughout the history,Skopje has been destroyed many times by different wars andearthquakes (catastrophic earthquakes in 518, 1555 and1963),devastated and burned down by various conquering armies andtyrants, but every time it raised even more beautiful and biggerthan before.

The “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University is an integrated part ofSkopje, of its history, its raises and falls. Without any doubts, it isone of the main symbols of the city, and the country, as well.

Studiite po ma{instvo vo Republika Makedonija zapo~naaesenta 1959 godina na Tehni~kiot fakultet vo Skopje, nakoj be{e formiran Elektro-ma{inski otsek. Poradizgolemeni op{testveni potrebi od ma{inski in`eneri, vo1965 godina vo ramkite na Univerzitetot „Sv. Kiril iMetodij" be{e osnovan Elektro-ma{inski fakultet so dvaoddela: Elektro i Ma{inski.

HISTORY

The very first Mechanical Engineering studies began in the fall of1959, at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Skopje, at theDepartment of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Due toincreased society demands for mechanical engineers in the country,the Faculty of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering was foundedas a part of “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in 1965. It wasconsisted of two departments: Department of Electrical andDepartment of Mechanical Engineering.

Poradi sè pogolema potreba i interes za studii poma{instvo, vo 1977 godina e formiran samostoen Ma{inskifakultet, koj postoi do den-denes. Vo tekot na site izminatidecenii Ma{inskiot fakultet oformi svoi specifi~nostikoi vo najgolem del se sovpa|aat so viziite na negoviteosnova~i i go reflektiraat iskustvoto steknato vo tekotna razvojniot proces.

Further developments of the mechanical engineering studies, andthe increased interest for the studies gave an opportunity toestablish independent Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1977,which holds high rankings up to date. The Faculty of MechanicalEngineering developed its own principles which comply with thevision of its founders and reflect the experience learned during thedevelopment process.

The latest innovated and updated study programmes imple-mented in 2004 brought new trends in the mechanical engineeringstudies. Today, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Skopjeoffers courses which are in accordance with the new trends ofEuropean Committee for Higher Education, as the Credit TransferSystem and the postulates of the Bologna Declaration. The Facultyproduces professionals who are able to answer to the demandsof the industrial branches development in the Republic ofMacedonia and who are in conformity with the world’s largecompanies standards.

Academic and administrative staff

The academic staff of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineeringdevotes special attention to domestic and internationaldevelopment trends, both theoretical and practical. The demandingmarket and the development of new products and technologiesreqest a broader and more complex knowledge. Engineeringexperts will remain the leaders of the development in the 21stcentury, but this development will have to respect, more than ever,the limitations of the environment and energy sources. This is thereason why engineers of the 21st century will face much morecomplex tasks. Only properly trained experts with a soundinterdisciplinary knowledge will be able to face with them. A factthe faculty staff is very well aware of. These observations are evenmore crucial in Macedonia, as a small country that will needparticularly well-trained experts to realize the transition to hightechnologies.

Science and research activities

Other than educational activities, the Faculty of MechanicalEngineering is the leader of scientific research activities within thedomain of mechanical engineering. With its staff potential, itrepresents a center of scientific development, scientific thoughtand science application in the industry.The research activity of the Faculty is implemented throughrealization of different research projects, and master and doctoraltheses. An important part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering are theLaboratory and the vehicle-inspection site which are part of theInstitute of Mechanical Structures, Mechanization Machines andvehicles and which are accredited by the Institute of Accreditationof the Republic of Macedonia. The Laboratory for Vehicles (forceand force moment) represents the first accredited calibrationlaboratory in the Republic of Macedonia. It was accredited in 2005year according to ISO 17025 with number LK-001 with force domainof 200 kN and force moment of 1000 Nm. The Inspection Body forMotor Vehicles was accredited in 2008 year according to ISO 17020with number IT-009. This inspection body is the first accreditedbody of this kind in the Republic of Macedonia and has anaccreditation range for conformity assessment on separatevehicles examined from L, M, N, O categories.

During its development, the Faculty of Mechanical engineeringhas paid special attention to publication activities. The “ScientificJournal for Mechanical Engineering” is published twice a year formore than 27 years in both Macedonian and English language.The “Future Student Catalogue of the Faculty of MechanicalEngineering” is being published once a year since 1998. The Business Start-Up Centre is an institution that monitors,controls and helps the development of the business ideaselaborated by the students and the graduates from their beginning,through institutionalization of those ideas to their development instable companies, successful on the market.

This is realized by a direct support in the process of establishmentof the companies, consulting, providing with the starting capital,infrastructure training and re-training of entrepreneurs, jointmarketing promotions, fairs, continuing consulting and control ofwork and success of the companies.

Cooperation with industry

Throughout the years, the Faculty has been conducting a fruitfulcooperation with the industry in Macedonia and the region, aswell as with companies from other countries in the world. Thecooperation is conducted through joint work on scientific-research projects, scholarships for students and organizationof lifelong learning courses.

ALUMNI Association

The student days are just the beginning of a lifelong relationshipwith the Faculty. An ALUMNI Association of Mechanical Engineerswas established on February 5th, 2009. Today, many of our ALUMNIsuccessfully work in different countries. The Institute of Production Engineering and Management, withits educational, scientific, research and applied activities, hasfollowed the contemporary scientific approaches for developmentof production systems, manufacturing technologies, tools,processes and management in order to participate in growingthe country’s economy.

The continual increase of the competitiveness on the globalmarket and the need for new high technology products arechallenges by the world competition, where the Macedonian SMEsare one of the players.

Therefore, the main role of the Institute is to educate highly qualifiedand well-trained engineers ready to face the problems during theproduction processes in modern and complex industrial systemsin the field of production and industrial engeneering, managementand applied information technologies.

The applied researches consist of new contemporary technologiesimplementation mainly through technology transfer process,machining process numerical simulation, IT technologies forproduction and business processes, tools design, quality control,implementation of quality management systems (ISO, OHSAS),capacities planning, rapid prototyping, reverse engineering,standards for work’s safety implementation and professionalreports.Applied researches are conducted in the Institute’s laboratoriesand centres:

Institutot za ma{inski konstrukcii, mehanizacioni

ma{ini i vozila (MKMMV) ima za cel da ja razviva i da ja

unapreduva nastavnata i nau~noistra`uva~kata dejnost vo

oblastite: in`enersko konstruirawe, motorni vozila,

transportni sistemi i mehanizacija, in`enerska logistika

i industriski dizajn. Vo negovi ramki se educiraat kadri

na site tri stepeni na visokoto obrazovanie, na do-

diplomskite, na postdiplomskite i na doktorskite studii.

So cel sledewe na dinami~nite promeni vo spomenatite

nau~ni oblasti, Institutot se vklu~uva aktivno i vo novi

podra~ja na istra`uvawe, kako {to se: modelirawe i

simulacija na dinami~ni sistemi, virtuelno prototipirawe

i testirawe, inteligentni transportni sistemi, simulacija

na dinami~noto odnesuvawe na konstrukciite so metod na

kone~ni elementi, modelirawe i analiza na delovi od

enterieri na vozila, ergonomski pristap vo modeliraweto

na proizvodite, dizajn na eko-proizvodi, estetsko i

Institute Profile

The main scope of the Institute of Engineering Design, Mecha-nization and Motor Vehicles is to develop and improve its teachingand scientific research activities in the areas of engineeringdesign, motor vehicles, transportation systems and mecha-nization, engineering logistics and industrial design.Aiming to closely follow the dynamic changes in those areas, theInstitute maintains a proactive position and widens its researchinterest into several new areas such as virtual modeling andsimulation of dynamic systems, virtual prototyping and testing,intelligent transportation systems, FEA studies of dynamicbehaviour of mechanical constructructions, modeling and analysisof vehicle interior, ergonomic approach in product modeling, eco-product design, etc.In that respect, the key goal of the Institute is to produce highlyqualified and skilled engineers able to meet the needs and facethe challenges in the fields of industrial design, motor vehicles,engineering design and mechanization. At the same time, theInstitute performs intensive expertise and consultancy work in thearea of motor vehicles and offers life long learning courses.

Aplikativnata dejnost na Institutot za MKMMV vo oblastana motornite vozila se odviva preku aktivnostite iispituvawata za potrebite na dr`avata od strana naakreditiranoto inspekcisko telo za ocena na soobraznostna edini~no pregledani vozila od kategoriite L, M, N, O.Pokraj ova, aplikativnata dejnost od oblasta ma{inskikonstrukcii, kranovi i liftovi se odviva vo laboratorija-ta za konstruirawe i industriski dizajn i vo laboratorijataza mehanizacioni ma{ini. Isto taka, aplikativnata dejnostse odviva preku odr`uvawe kursevi i seminari zakontinuirano u~ewe od oblastite {to gi pokriva Institutotza MKMMV. Po potreba, za realizirawe na dejnosta sesproveduvaat i terenski aktivnosti od strana navrabotenite na Institutot.

Scientific and research activities

The scientific and research activities of the Institute of EngineeringDesign, Mechanization and Motor Vehicles is focused on severalmodern areas: intelligent transport systems, modeling, simulationand analysis of vehicle stability control systems, methodologiesfor vehicle safety assesment, vehicle ride and comfort assesment,ergonomics, bionics and eco-design, etc. The outcomes areregularly presented at various national and internationalconferences and published in scientific and professional journals.The Institute also takes part in or has the role of coordinator indomestic and international projects.

Applied research activities

The applied research activities in the area of motor vehicles arecarried out mainly through testing, conformity assessment,expertise and forensics of vehicles by the accredited Laboratoryfor Vehicles and Inspection body for conformity assessment ofindividual vehicles belonging to categories L, M, N or O. Theseactivities are performed by appointment of the Ministry of Economy,on behalf of the state. The Laboratories for Engineering Designand Mechanization Machinery carry out applied research in theareas of mechanical constructions, lifts, cranes and elevators.Beside applied research, there are number of courses offered forlife-long learning programmes for engineers and professionals.

The Institute of Thermal Engineering (TE) provides educational,scientific, applicative and engineering activities in the followingareas: (1) thermotechnics with basic disciplines: thermodynamics,applied psychrometrics, heat and mass transfer, heating and air-conditioning, refrigeration systems, industrial dryers, compressors,district heating systems, thermal measurements; (2) thermo-energetics with basic disciplines: steam generators, heatturbines, internal combustion engines, thermoenergetic systems,energy recourses and ecology, industrial furnaces; (3) processengineering with basic disciplines: heat processes and equipment,mechanical and hydro-mechanical processes and devices, dryers,industrial furnaces; (4) power engineering and ecology with basicdisciplines: design of power devices and equipment, environmentalmanagement, ecology, unconventional fuels, waste treatment andmanagement.

Hydraulics and AutomaticsGraduate study programme of three years duration, 180 ECTSDegree: Bachelor of Engineering in Hydraulics and Automatics

This programme contains study of the disciplines in the field ofconstitution and performance of the hydraulic machines andsystems, control and automation, operation and maintenanceof the hydropower facilities and equipment, gas and oil pipelinesystems, hydraulic and pneumatic transport, operation andmaintenance of pumps and turbines, operation and maintenanceof the systems.

The Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Automatics in theframe of the TEMPUS JEP project DEREC coordinates theestablishing and organizing of the new three years studies inEnviromental and Resources Engineering, which are completelycompatibile with the appropriate studies at the University ofFlorence – Italy. The Italian University will award joint diplomawith the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius University” for undergraduatestudies.

The Institute staff members are active participants atscientific congresses and symposiums, presenting their researchpapers throughout European countries, the USA and the homecountry, as well. A lot of scientific papers have been published inworld’s famous scientific journals such as ZAMM, ASME, IFFTOMand ETAN. Scientific and research activities at the Institute aremainly performed through scientific projects supported by theMinistry of Education and Science of the Republic of Macedonia,as well as through numerous international projects: TEMPUS,NATO, FP6, GTZ, DAAD, Fulbright, UNESCO etc., making acontribution for hydropower engineering, hydraulics andautomatics in the country.

The Institute of Welding and Welded Structures realizes activitieswithin the following areas: knowledge of materials science,technologies and analysis of materials, welding, technology ofwelded joints and structures, welding equipment, related weldingprocedures, metal welded structures, bearing metal constructionthin-walled engineering structures, calculation of welded joints andstructures, assembling of metal structures, testing and control ofwelded structures.From the past until today, the scientific interest of the Institute hasbeen directed towards material properties determination, qualityassurance and integrity assessments of welded structures, behaviorof welded structures in exploitation and design of various weldedstructures.

Istra`uva~kata rabota se bazira na teoretski i numeri~kianalizi i simulacii so koristewe na sovremeni programskipaketi, na eksperimentalni istra`uvawa za nivna potvrdai stru~ni zaklu~oci. Pritoa se koristat prethodniteiskustva, kako i najnovite sovremeni soznanija kaj nas i vosvetot za sekoja od oblastite, soodvetno.

The Institute of Mechanics continuously maintains and developseducational, scientific and research and the applied researchactivities in the field of fundamental and applied mechanics, railwayvehicles, mechatronics and other related fields.The Institute of Mechanics participates actively in the education ofhighly qualified engineers, practical application of scientific andresearch results, and it is involved in many innovation and expertactivities.The basic priorities of the Institute of Mechanics are: to developscientific and research activities according to the world trends inmechanics and mechatronics, to develop educational process withimplementation of modern teaching materials and methods and tointensify international cooperation in order to become activemember of the European scientific community.

Graduate Level

The educational activities of the Institute of Mechanics are animportant part of the educational process at the Faculty ofMechanical Engineering in Skopje. At the graduate level, theInstitute covers the area of mechanics at all study programmesand develops the study programme in Mechatronics inaccordance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

MechatronicsGraduate study programme of four years duration, 240 ECTSDegree: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

Mechatronics represents a synergetic integration of thetraditional disciplines of mechanical engineering, electronics,electrical engineering, automation and informationtechnologies. The modern technical and technologicaldevelopment and the intelligent product development inspiredthe need for new engineering profile – the mechatronicengineer. The mechatronic graduate is capable ofdevelopment, design, production and maintenance ofmechatronic systems containing computer controlled electro-mechanical components. During the four years programme,the mechatronics engineer studies the advanced systemcomponents (mechanisms, sensors, actuators) and theirintegration with electronics and software in order to getintelligent product with implementation of new functions.

Scientific and research activities

The Institute of Mechanics has significant scientific and researchactivities. Since the foundation of the Institute until today, theInstitute members have taken part in more than 15 scientific –research and technology – development projects. The Instituteprofessors have been supervisors and members of committeesin more than 30 PhD theses and more than 50 Master theses,and they have also peer-reviewed many scientific projects, booksand papers. The members of the Institute actively participate ininternational congresses and symposiums and they havepresented more than 200 scientific papers at acknowledgedinternational scientific gatherings. The main focus of the scientificand research activities of the Institute of Mechanics is on strengthof materials and construction dynamics, machine mechanics,optimizations and synthesis of planetary and linkage mechanisms,vibrations and noise, safety systems and shelters, railway vehiclesdynamics and braking systems, mechatronics and mechatronicsystems with complex structure.

Applied research activities

The Institute of Mechanics maintains intensive collaboration withthe industries in the country and abroad, primarily in the field ofrapid prototyping, design of constructions and systems,experimental research and training of industry professionals atspecialized courses. The applied research activities of the Instituteof Mechanics are significant in the following areas:

– Calculations, analysis, simulation and measurements ofthe stress-strain state of the mechanical contractions andsystems;

Unit Activities

The Unit of Mathematics and Information Sciences performseducation and research in mathematics, applied mathematics andcomputer science.

Education

The courses covered by the Unit at graduate and postgraduatelevel consist of the following topics:– Mathematics: mathematical analysis, algebra, analyticalgeometry, differential equations, complex functions, etc.– Mathematics and Computer Science: discrete mathematics,numerical computing, optimization methods, probability andstatistics, etc.– Information Sciences: fundamentals of computer science,algorithms and programming, database systems, programming forengineering, software engineering, computer networks and internet,etc.

The main objective of the courses is to provide the students withthe fundamentals of mathematics and computer science that haveapplication in engineering.

The Unit, in cooperation with the Institute of Mechanics, is a co-founder of the Mechatronics studies.Members of the Unit teach several courses at some other facultiesof the University.

Scientific and research activities

The Unit realises research in many different areas of mathematicsand computer science by presenting research results at inte-rnational conferences and journals. The members of the Unitparticipate and manage several research national and internationalprojects.

Applied research activities

The applicative activities are mainly achieved in collaboration withthe other Institutes, as well as by conducting additional coursesand seminars on various topics in mathematics and computerscience.

Bibliote~niot fond go so~inuvaat okolu 33.000naslovi na monografski publikacii (nad 50.000 biblio-te~ni edinici) i okolu 650 naslovi na periodi~nipublikacii od oblastite koi gi opfa}a Fakultetot, noBibliotekata isto taka ovozmo`uva i pristap do zna~ajnielektronski bazi na podatoci. Kako centar za nau~nata itehni~kata dokumentacija na Fakultetot, poseduva mo{nezna~ajna i vredna zbirka na doktorski disertacii imagisterski trudovi odbraneti na Fakultetot. Se ostvaruvapostojana sorabotka so Nacionalnata i univerzitetskabiblioteka „Sv. Kliment Ohridski”, kako i so mnogu drugibiblioteki nadvor od zemjata. Bibliotekata e vklu~ena vosistemot za me|unarodna bibliote~na pozajmica, so {to nasvoite korisnici im ovozmo`uva koristewe na resursi oddrugi informaciski centri.

dynamic and creative mechanical engineers. Its mission is tosupport the Faculty’s mission, primarily through providing accessto information resources and services, and by providing thestudents and the academic staff with a proper space andconditions for study and research.

Being one of the biggest and most successful faculty libraries inthe country, we are proud of our collection of engineering literature– textbooks and research materials, special collection ofperiodicals, reference collection, and the collection of doctoraldissertations, Master theses and standards. The entire collectionis consisted of more than 33,000 book titles (monographs,handbooks, dictionaries, conference proceedings, researchworks, and dissertations), 650 titles of serial publications andaccess to several important electronic data bases. All thematerials are processed and classified in accordance with thevalid international standards. The materials not available in theFaculty Library can be ordered via interlibrary loan, using theservices of the National and University Library “St. Clement ofOhrid” and many other libraries from the country and abroad.

The Library comprises the Library offices, bookstacks, onereading room with 90 seats and a computer room with 12computers (all of them with Internet access).

Besides the regular tasks, such as providing the users withmaterials and resources, classification of the library materials,preparing catalogues, storing and preservation of the holdings,the Library staff also instructs its users in information search,organization of information and critical evaluation of resources.

Ovoj centar za obuka zapo~na so rabota vo noemvri 2005godina kako rezultat na partnerstvoto pome|u Xonsonkontrols, globalen proizvoditel na enterieri za vozila,oprema za objekti i baterii, i Ma{inskiot fakultet voSkopje, i vr{i obu~uvawe na kadri koi }e bidat sposobnida rabotat vo kompanii {to koristat visoka tehnologija.Centarot e smesten vo novata zgrada na Institutot za ma-{inski konstrukcii, mehanizacioni ma{ini i vozila i eopremen so sovremeni kompjuteri so softverot CATIA zakonstruirawe, kako i so druga oprema obezbedena prekudonacija od Xonson kontrols. Jonson Controls Training Centre

This Training Centre started operating in November 2005, as aresult of the partnership between Jonson Controls, a worldwideleader in production of enteriers for vehicles, equipment for objectsand batteries, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Skopje.The Centres trains human resources for work in companies thatuse advanced technology. It is located in the new building of theInstitute of Engineerng Design, Mechanization and Motor Vehiclesand is equipped with modern computers, CATIA engineeringsoftware, together with additional equipment donated by JonsonControls. Users of this Centre are the scholars from the JonsonControls Blue Sky Fondation and the students of the Faculty ofMechanical Engineering.

Centre for Modelling and Simulations

This Centre was developed as a result of two TEMPUS Projects:TEMPUS JEP 13571 and TEMPUS JEP 19017 – NSP-ME.In the scope of these TEMPUS projects, two laboratories formodelling and simulations were established. The Laboratoriesare equipped with powerful computers, servers and work-stations,used for basic and applicable software packages for training andresolving problems with numerical simulations.On the basis of these TEMPUS projects activities, project staff andteaching material were developed. Together, they represent aneducational potential with which numerical simulations methodswere implemented in the graduate and postgraduate studies atthe Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.The Laboratories and the educational materials are used for thestudents to gain competences and skills needed for engineersworking with virtual prototyping. Besides the basic phase, thetraining also contains work on solving complex applicable problemson practical examples from particular companies.The Centre conducts lifelong learning (LLL) courses forprofessionals from small and medium-sized enterprises in order tointroduce them into numerical simulation techniques and it executespractical trainings for usage of virtual prototyping methods in solvingengineering problems.
