1. SCOPE OF TEST

The “ESCORTS LIMITED, FARMTRAC 45” tractor had undergone “Initial Commercial

Test” at this Institute vide test report No. T-873/1387/2013 was released in May, 2013.The firm

has made following changes in the technical specification of tractor and had requested vide letter

No. FT-45-B-96/17 dated 11.09.2018 for Technical Extension testing of “ESCORTS LIMITED,

FARMTRAC 45” tractor.

The applicant informed vide that the last chassis cut off number of tractor and engine

model number generated on production line is T2345422 and E2350124 respectively.

The major features of Base model and Technical Extension model are listed below:

Subsequent to the examination of the case in the light of clause a) of Sl. No. vi & vii of Table-2

and Sl. No. (i) of clause 8.1.2 of Indian Standard 12207: 2019, the following tests were

considered to be carried out:

6.4 Salient Observations:

6.4.1 Laboratory tests:

6.4.1.1 PTO Performance: i) The maximum power was recorded as 30.3 & 29.1 kW in case of previous &

present sample respectively against the declaration of 28.7 kW, which is within the tolerance limit of IS: 12207-2019.

ii) The specific fuel consumption corresponding to maximum power in case of previous and present sample was measured as 240 & 259 g/kWh respectively against the declaration of 236 g/kWh, which meets the requirement of IS: 12207-2019 with regard to tolerance.

iii) The maximum equivalent crankshaft torque was recorded as 186.5 & 178.1 N-m in case of previous & present sample respectively against the declaration of 171.6 N-m, which is within the tolerance limit of IS: 12207-2019.

iv) The backup torque is 18.6 %.

v) The drop in maximum PTO power was observed as 6.2 % between natural and high ambient condition, which is considered on higher side. This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.

vi) The high idle speed of the engine was recorded as 2204 rpm against the rated engine speed on 1850 rpm. The percentage fly-up is recorded as 19.1%, which is considered to be very high. This should be re-examined and setting of fuel injection pump should be done accordingly.

6.4.1.2 Three point linkage:

i) The lateral distance from lower hitch point to centre line of tractor does not meets the requirement of IS: 4468 (Part-1)-1997 (Reaffirmed in October 2017). This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.

ii) The diameter of pin hole of upper hitch point and lower link hitch point do not meets the requirement of IS: 4468 (Part-1)-1997 (Reaffirmed in October 2017). This should be looked into for necessary corrective action.

iii) Some of the parameters of three point linkage conforms to Cat-I and some of them conforms to Cat-II keeping in view the spirit of standardization necessary improvements may be incorporated.

6.4.1.3 Operator’s seat : i) Longitudinal distance form seat index point to centre of steering control wheel

6.6 Recommendation with regard to safety on tractor:

The following requirements, inter alia, may be considered for incorporation on the tractor as per relevant Indian Standards:

i) There should be provision for spark arresting device in exhaust system. ii) The fuel shut-off knob should remain in stop position. iii) The working clearance around position & draft control lever should be provided

as per relevant standard. iv) Vertical distance form Seat Index Point to centre of clutch pedal should meet the

minimum requirement as per relevant standard. v) The width of foot step may be provided as per the requirement of per relevant

standard. vi) Vertical retainer should be provided on both side of clutch pedal. vii) PTO shaft master shield should be provided to avoid the accident. viii) There should be provision of differential lock in tractor.
