On 10th June Rtn Kaushik Shah was installed as the President of the Club for RY 2018-19 at Crystal Room, Taj Mahal Palace and Towers. DG Rtn Shashi Sharma was the Chief Guest. The Ceremony was followed by cocktails and dinner. It was a very well managed team effort.

The Program was attended by 117 Members, 101 Spouses, 7 District Dignitaries & Spouses, 13 family & friends, 4 Miracle Presidents & Spouses taking the total to 242.

It gives me an immense pleasure to present to you our first E BULLETIN for Rotary year 2018-19.

Rtn. Vijay shah, Rtn. Sonali Sinha and Methoo, have put in extra efforts in preparation of this bulletin to include as much information as possible.

On 21st July the First Fireside Meeting followed by cocktails and dinner was hosted by Rtn PP Chetan & Radhika Mehra at their residence which was attended by 26 couples

On 11th August Rtn PP Manoj Gursahani hosted the 2nd Fireside at his residence which was attended by 16 couples.

We thank Rtn PP Chetan and Radhika Mehra as well as Rtn PP Manoj Gursahani for being wonderful hosts.

FELLOWSHIP

On 1st July we had a highly enjoyable and entertaining Shukriya Party for PP Rtn Hiten Shah for RY 2017-18 at the Rooftop Trident which was attended by 205 Members and Spouses. The Diamond Trophy was presented to the Club on Shukriya Day.

COWBOY CASINO NIGHT AT OLD WILD WEST

On 14th August we had organized a wonderful fellowship Cowboy Casino Night at Old Wild West which was attended by 171 members and spouses. Members and Spouses were dressed up as cowboys and cowgirls with innovative hats. There were 4 casino tables. The best dressed couple, the best innovative hat for gents and ladies, the most enthusiastic dancer gents and ladies and the first two winners at the casino all got prizes sponsored by our own members.

District Governor Rtn Shashikumar Sharma was on his Official Visit to our Club along with his Team on 22nd September from 5 pm onwards at MCA Lounge. The OCV ended with cocktails and dinner and light entertainment program which included playing of flute by Blind Flute Artist Mr Kiran Vinkar accompanied by melodious singing by Ms Hina Mehta.

FELLOWSHIP

29th July was our Second Fellowship for the month - South Indian Sit-Down Lunch with a twist at the hall of Veer Bhuvan at Babulnath. It included an entertainment program. 33 members and spouses of less than 15 months membership and of more than 15 years membership performed seven different skits and seven different dances all with South Indian touch. This resulted in assimilation and bonding among members. This was followed by South Indian sit-down lunch known as “Sapaat”. Dress code was men in white lungi or white kurta with pant or lungi and women in sarees or kurtas with gajras. 200 members and spouses attended the brunch.

PROGRAMS

On 22nd September 5pm onwards District Governor Rtn Shashikumar Sharma was on his Official Visit to our Club along with his Team from at MCA Lounge, D Road, Churchgate. Agenda included Partners in Service, Closed Door Meeting, OCV / Club Assembly and meeting with Directors followed by Regular Meeting. DG was pleased with all the activities of the Club and mentioned that our club is the third largest in the district and one of the finest club. He mentioned that more members need to come forward and participate at the district level. He expects contribution of USD 1 Million from our club towards TRF, sponsor a cup on the Race Day and a AKS Member. Our Club should focus on 100% retention of members, participate in Rotary Friendship Exchange Program, Rotary Humsafar, DISCON and District Picnic. After seeing the plethora of marquee projects of the club, increase in membership by 24 members, excellent programs and fellowship events, he mentioned that our Club is an institution by itself and gave a ranking of “passed with distinction” to the club. The OCV ended with cocktails and dinner and light entertainment program which included playing of flute by Blind Flute Artist Mr Kiran Vinkar accompanied by melodious singing by Ms Hina Mehta.

On 3rd September our Club celebrated Janmashtami with Satsang and Bhajans at Meditation Hall, Veer Bhuvan. Guest Speaker was Ms Rhea Pillai, Model & Art of Living Teacher and Bhajans in praise of Lord Krishna were sung by renowned Hina Mehta. It was followed by a small meditation session. It was a spouse evening and ended with dinner.

17TH SEPTEMBER PRE-OCV

Our Pre-OCV / Club Assembly was held on 17th September which was graced by AG Rtn Gautam Dalal at Purple Lounge.

On 13th May our Club co-hosted Grant Management Seminar held at Radio Club. DGE Rtn Shashi Sharma was the Chief Guest and Rtn Preeti Shah was the Convenor. The seminar covered the following various aspects of Global Grant. The Seminar was attended by PE Rtn Kaushik Shah, Rtn Sonali Sinha and Rtn Apurva Kiran Shah.

PARTICIPATION & CO-HOSTING DISTRICT EVENTS

On 10th August our Club co-hosted Sanskar – District Training Assembly for Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers and Moderators of Interact Clubs at Rajhans Vidyalaya School, Bhavans College Campus, Andheri West. All our three Interact Schools participated. PDG Rtn Lata Subraidu was the Chief Guest. The project was attended by Rtn Parool Merchant and PE Rtn Sonal Jhaveri.

SANSKAR

ROTARY KI PATHSHALA

On Thursday 23rd August our Club cohosted Rotary Ki Pathshala (RKP) at M C Ghia Hall. It was conducted by Training Facilitator Rtn Jhankar Gadkari, Rtn Dr Rajendra Agarwal, AT Rtn Pankaj Tanna, AT Rtn Neena Kalra and AT Rtn Rajesh Dave at the M.C. Ghia Hall. RKP was attended by President Rtn Kaushik Shah and 4 prospective members. The entire program was interactive. Besides the insight into membership induction and development, the focus was on attracting more youth and women to Rotary. The Pathshala was an excellent training program and ended with cocktails and dinner.

On 28th September our Club co-hosted UDAAN at St Andrews Auditorium, Bandra. Interactors of St Mathews School and Rotary Sanskardham Academy participated in the dance competition. Sanskardham won first prize in the dance competition. The project was attended by President Rtn Kaushik Shah and Rtn Parool Merchant.

QUEEN'S NECKLACE EMERGENCY FUND – IMPACT TATA (Project cost Rs 60 lakhs over 5 years – For current year Rs 13.90 lakhs)

TMH provides free or drastically discounted service only after documentation is created, which confirms the financial status of recipients. The intent of this fund is to support during this emergency period wherein after a week or 10 days, TMH takes over.

MASTERCHEF COMPETITION AT ST JUDE CHILDCARE CENTRES

Masterchef Team comprising of 150 or more ladies presented their culinary skills at the competitions held on 7th and 8th July at the St Jude Child Care Centres at Parel and Cotton Green, respectively. All participants are mothers whose kids of 3 months to 15 years fight survive cancer at three St Jude Child Care centres every day.

Our Club handed over a cheque of Rs 18,000 towards sponsorship of 36 gift hampers given to winners of the Competitions held at both places.

DONATION

DONATION OF FOWLER BEDS FOR UROLOGY DEPARTMENT, BYL NAIR CHARITABLE HOSPITAL (Project cost Rs 1 lakh)

On 30th July our Club donated two Fowler Beds costing Rs 1 lakh to Urology Department of Nair Charitable Hospital. The department of Urology caters to about 1000 outpatients per month and has 25 indoor beds. They urgently needed Fowler Beds for their indoor patients 29 in male ward and 31 in female ward. The Hospital performs about 75-100 urologic surgeries/month which include Kidney transplants, cancer surgeries, stone and prostatic surgeries. The patients are poor and needy. The project was attended by Nikunj Jhaveri, Rtn Rajeev Kapadia, President Kaushik Shah, Rtn Swati Mehta and Rtn Bhavini Shah.

QUEEN'S NECKLACE EMERGENCY FUND – IMPACT TATA

Rtn Dr Chandrashekhar Joshi and CPAA team inaugurated and conducted cancer detection camp on 24th July for a period of four days at Jammu. The Military had organised the camp for local people and army jawans at the border (line of control). Brigadier and Colonel from Army along with Rtn Dr Chandrashekhar Joshi were present on all days. More than 1000 people were checked in a period of four days. Our Club paid Rs 1 lakh to Nargis Dutt Foundation for organising cancer checkup camp for 200 patients.

GLOBAL GRANT PROJECT

ASHA KIRAN – MSWC's PROJECT FOR STREET CHILDREN (150 including 25 girls) MSWC's Asha Kiran, which operates in Dongri, provides a Day Care and Learning shelter for street children. It aims to care for and provide for the development of children within their environment through education, vocational learning and social studies. These are children who would otherwise spend time on the streets of the city under constant threat of exploitation. During the current year, we have 153 children studying in various classes from 1st to 10th standards in municipal/private schools.

Our Club collected Rs 7 lakhs towards Kerala Flood Relief and disbursed the funds through NGO United Way of India.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL FACILITY

Sponsoring Vocational Training and Residential School Facility for 22 individuals at Jai Vakeel School for mentally challenged Jai Vakeel Foundation is a NGO working with the intellectually disabled. Almost 40% of students belong to the lower socio-economic strata. Our Club is supporting the Residential Section which provides lodging and boarding to individuals with Intellectual Disability - 22 individuals, ranging from ages 8 to 75 with 70% of the individuals above the age of 40. The students are provided round the clock care by caretakers.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR GIRLS

Objective is to provide various vocational training to underprivileged girls and place at the minimum 70% of them in jobs in various corporates.Training by Viztar International is currently being provided to 15 trainees under the Basic Beautician Training Program @ Virar and 15 candidates under the Bedside Assistant Training Program @ Nalasopara.

Project cost Rs 4,00,882. Disbursed Rs 2,49,121/-

Providing young, underprivileged girls with a second chance at a fulfilling life is VOICE 'Sanjivani'. A sprawling, green campus on the outskirts of suburban Virar, near Mumbai city,ŸSanjivani provides a wholesome and nurturing environment in which the girl child is given free education, food, clothing, shelter and health services. Education is given for classes 3, 5, 8, 10 and 12 under the National Open Schooling Scheme (NIOS).

Project cost Rs 9 lakhs. Disbursed Rs 2.25 lakhs

VILLAGE ADOPTION PROGRAM

It is a children's hospice for daycare. It takes care of children from lower strata from around Mumbai at Sion Hospital who are HIV positive or Thalassemia Major. They do activities at Sion Hospital and run a daycare in Sion. They give them meals and assist them with medications and blood testing. They counsel as well as conduct art, dance and drama classes as part of therapy. They also send the older kids for vocational training. Annual number of Beneficiaries - about 250 to 300 children Project cost Rs 60 lakhs. Disbursed Rs 10 lakhs

HAPPY FEET NGO

REALITY GIVES

The School Program in Dharavi providing quality English-medium education to 500 boys and girls aged between 3-12 each year. They aim to provide something different to the rote method of recall and repetition that is still widespread in local schools. Their goal is to provide a higher quality of education, which they consider to be a combination of academic skills, values to guide behaviour, and exposure to the world outside of the surrounding community.

Their Director of Education Suman Barua, who joined last year from Harvard University, leads teacher training at the school. They believe in a locally-led approach to this, hiring women from the local community and helping them to develop as professionals alongside their students. Their School Program has created a change.

EOTO – SPONSORING SUPPLEMENTARY EDUCATION IN MUNICIPAL SCHOOLS

Each One Teach One (EOTO) is a development organization creating opportunities for the underprivileged children of municipal and government aided schools in Maharashtra. On 6th October our Club inaugurated EOTO Charitable Foundation School Support Program supported and sponsored by our Club in three schools - NMMC Secondary School No 114, Koparkhairne, Navi Mumbai, NMMC Secondary School No 108, Sathe Nagar, Thane, Digha, Airoli, Navi Mumbai and NMMC Secondary School No 103, Opp Gurudwar, National Burns Centre, Airoli, Navi Mumbai.

Congratulations to Rtn Rohan and Team for a well-organized project visit. Education Officer and 3 local corporators were the chief guests for the function.

The project was attended by President Rtn Kaushik & Minal Shah, Rtn Apoorva Kiran Shah, Rtn Nikhil Rungta, IPP Rtn Hiten Shah, Anne Sapna Jalan, Rtn Asif Adiji, Rtn Satish Vora, Rtn Hardik Kapadia. Rtn Ravi Shah, Rtn Premal Shah, Rtn Abhilasha Rajoria, Rtn Devang Shah, Rtn Rohan & Aparna Shah, Anne Sunali Jhaveri, Anne Asmi Shah and Anne Mona Mehta.

Project cost - Rs. 60 lakhs to adopt 5 schools in Navi Mumbai for a period of 3 years. Beneficiaries 2800. Disbursed Rs 26,36,853/-

Shree Marine Drive Jain Sadharmic Foundation – Livelihood Sustainment and upliftment of needy families

Under Sadharmic Bhakti, the Foundation takes care of mostly Jain families. It provides 70% education support for students in schools and high schools, up to Rs 70,000 for higher education and Rs 1 lakh for serious medical help. The Foundation also gives grains and pulses to the poor families. On case to case basis, families of other castes are also given help.

Project cost Rs 8 lakhs. Disbursed Rs 8 lakhs

WECAN is an NGO which provides access to educational and economic opportunities for individuals in technologically under-served communities.Our Club is suppor ting the NGO by sponsoring supplemental education for kids staying near Railway Station in Borivali and Kandivali.

MATUNGA SCHOOL PROJECT

EDUCATION SUPPORT

Dayanand Balika Vidyalaya and Junior College located in Matunga East is a MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai) funded school. The school has 800+ girls in the morning batch.

Aashray Infratech Solutions along with RCMQN have undertaken the activity to build a Computer Lab (20+1-seater) in the school and run this for a period of two years.

INTERACT CLUBS

At the Chessboxing Amateur World Championship held at Kshudiram Anusilan Kendra, Kolkata from 26th July to 29th July four students of St Mathews High School were in the final round & in the finals St Mathews School students bagged two gold, one silver & one bronze medal. Aradhana Gaund won gold medals in 37 kgs and 70 kgs weight categories, respectively. Vicky Kamath and Irfan Khan bagged silver medals in 50 kgs and 60 kgs weight categories.

On 20th July we installed the President and Office Bearers of Interact Club of Lady Engineer School, Gamadia Colony. The project was attended by President Rtn Kaushik Shah, Rtn Parool Merchant, Rtn Devang Shah, Rtn Swati Mehta and Rtn Hiten Shah.

On Thursday, 2nd August our Club installed the President and Office Bearers of Interact Club of Rotary Sanskardham Academy. The project was attended by Rtn Kaushik Shah, Rtn Parool Merchant, Rtn Abhilasha Rajoria and Rtn Sneha Pathak.

LADY ENGINEER SCHOOL

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD FOR ST MATHEWS SCHOOL

T h e B r i t i s h C o u n c i l h a s conferred Brit ish Council International School Award on St Mathews School as they f u l f i l l e d a l l m a n d a t o r y documents and essential criteria to be eligible for the award.

On 27th September Rtn PP Manoj Gursahani was felicitated for his contribution to Indo-USA relations by Mr Nitin Gadkari, Hon.Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and US Consul General Edgard Kagan in the presence of Mr Adi Godrej at the IAS 59th Foundation Day Awards function organized by Indo American Society.

ST MATHEWS SCHOOL AND JUNIOR COLLEGE

On 31st July we installed the President and Office Bearers of Interact & Rotaract Clubs of St Mathews School & Junior College at the school premises. The project was attended by President Rtn Kaushik Shah, Rtn PP Anju Siraj, Rtn Parool Merchant, Rtn Shalini Lunkad, Annes Smita, Leena & Dimple.

We have begun with one Paediatric Heart Surgery Project at HN Reliance Hospital. Total Surgeries : approx 100. Total Project Value : Rs. 70 lacs. The second Project will be of a similar value - for Heart Surgeries or any other project idea.
