Issue 2 January -February 2019 JANUARY 22 : PROSTHODONTIST DAY The Prosthodontist Day 2019 was celebrated with unprecedented gayety through wonderfully coordinated eorts in organising programs and events all across the country . From organising street plays and flash mobs to organising public awareness talks and road shows to denture camps and skill competitions for UG and PG students it was celebration galore all across the country . It is also worth noting that this day was celebrated all across Asia by most of the Asian Prosthodontic Societies acknowledging this initiative of the Indian Prosthodontic Society . You all are aware that this day was conceived by the IPS head oce as an occasion where in the prosthodontist fraternity can use all their might and eort to promote the speciality among the general public as well as other medical fraternity . A big thank you from the Indian Prosthodontic Society Head oce , its President and Executive Council to each and everyone of you , the regional branches and to the various dental institutes, for coming forward in celebrating and promoting this day in a big way. Thank you all and hope the coming years will witness more heightened activities on this special day. PROSTHODONTIST DAY - 2019 A Pictorial Round Up

1st IPS Prostho Cricket League Chennai 2019The 1st ever IPS Prostho Cricket League concluded on the 27th of January at the Tagore Dental College Grounds Chennai IPS Karnataka were the winners beating the IPS Pune in the finals . The other semi finalists were the IPS Tamil Nadu and Kerala branches . Kudos to IPS Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh ,Telangana, and Gujarat state branches for participating sportingly in the event. Big Congratulations to the IPS Tamil Nadu state branch for hosting the event in an impeccable manner .This event was conceived by the TN state branch and its members and the IPS Head office has taken a policy decision to make this an annual event . Dr Venkatakrishnan was the chief coordinator of the event along with Dr Sanketh Reddy, Dr Sridharan Dr Pradeep and the whole team from the Tagore Dental College who took all efforts in making the teams comfortable .The management of the Tagore Dental College was magnanimous enough to provide the ground and the other facilities free of cost. Dr V Rangarajan and Dr T V Padmanabhan were the driving force behind the conceptualising of this league. Dr Ravi Savadi , President IPS handed over the trophies to the winners.Dr Rupesh P L Secretary IPS handed over the certificates .The next years event will be hosted by the IPS Bengaluru branch

IPS PUNE BRANCH *On the 20th January a CDE was hosted by the branch which was conducted by Dr V Rangarajan on the topics FULL MOUTH REHABILITATION and TMJ UPDATES at the ICC Trade tower auditorium Pune . *On the 22nd January: A cultural extravaganza by the PG students of the various Dental colleges in Pune was hosted by the branch .It was a full day program where the students had the opportunity to express their extracurricular talent. *On the 5th and 6th of February a Master class series -Grand Finale- was hosted by the branch where 20 speakers conducted classes for 155 PG students from all over Maharashtra state * IPS Pune conducted a Journal club at AFMC Pune on the 25 February  on the topic -REMOVABLE PROSTHODONTICS- A Lost Art ? Students from various colleges participated .A faculty Presentation was done by Brig Dr Mahesh Gowda on sleep apnea and its management  

IPS Bengaluru Branch

*The branch Conducted a highly successful Masterclass program for the PG students on the 1st to 3rd of February 2019 . More than 170 students from across the state participated in the program .Eighteen eminent faculty members conducted exam oriented classes in a very innovative and interesting manner . A quiz contest for the students was also held .The hosts were the Ambedkar Dental College Bengaluru *A very entertaining cultural program for both the faculty and PG students was hosted by the RV Dental College Bangalore on the 20th of January 2019 . The event named VISMAYA was inaugurated by the IPS President Dr Ravi Savadi.

IPS Haryana State Branch The IPS Haryana branch conducted an Essay competition and Poster competition for the post graduate students . The topic of the Essay competition was “Prosthodontic practice after one decade “ and the topic of the Poster competition was “ Know your Prosthodontist “ There was over whelming responses from the participants for the program

IPS Gujarat State Branch

*The branch organised a Dental Hygiene n Prostho awareness lecture at an old age home and government schools *A Prostho walkathon was organised where all the medical faculty were also invited to join in to spread awareness of the speciality *A smile competition was organised for students *TV channels talk show about Prosthodontics on all Gujarati channels was done by Dr Jigna Shah *Top FM radio talk show was aired - The topic was Prosthodontics .The talk show was conducted by Dr Jigna Shah *CDSRC Bhopal in association with IPS Gujarath branch organised a teeth settling competition for 2nd year students

IPS Karnataka State branch

*AME’S Dental College and Hospital, Raichur in association with IPS Karnataka conducted a public awareness programme and a Prosthodontic awareness talk in public function organised in an adopted village . *SDM Dental College, Dharwad in association with IPS Karnataka Branch conducting a CDE Programme by Dr. Mahendrandh Reddy which was well attended by almost 100 delegates. *KLE Institute of Dental Sciences, Belagavi conducted a CDE Programme in association with the Karnataka state branch , A free dental checkup and awareness programme was also hosted by them for general public. *Bapuji Dental College And Hospital, Davangere organised a talk by Dr. Anupama on ‘Geriatric Mental Wellbeing’ and Smt Rashmi Patil on ‘Nutritional requirements in geriatrics’

IPS Tamil Nadu State Branch *The IPS TN state branch held its 10th State Conference at Hotel Shevaroy Yercaud on the 23rd and 24th of February .The theme of the conference was ‘Prosthodontics in the third Millennium’ . Dr V Rangarajan delivered the EGR Solomon memorial oration and Dr T V Padmanabhan delivered the Keynote lecture .More than 220 delegates participated in this impeccably organised conference . The new office bearers took office during the AGM with Dr Anand Kumar being sworn in as the President *The IPS TN branch hosted the 1st ever IPS Prostho Cricket League at the Tagore Dental College grounds in Chennai on the 26th and 27th of January *The state branch had an effective membership campaign by which they have achieved more than 200 members registered in their state branch *A rapid review program for PG students was hosted by Sri Ramchandra Dental College in association with IPS TN State branch 171 students from 41 dental schools in the country attended the program .

IPS Jaipur Branch The branch conducted a CDE program by Dr Somesh Grover on guided and navigational surgery for implants The branch also had a great PR activity by having wide press release on the speciality of Prosthodontics and prosthodontist day . Dr Gaurav Pal Sing’s article on Prosthodontics was published in a leading news daily . The branch members also met the Governor, H H Kalyan Singh Ji and released poster commemorating the speciality of Prosthodontics ………..continued page 6

IPS Nagpur Branch

*A state level CDE program was organised by the IPS Nagpur branch The faculty were by Dr Ram Thombare n Dr Harsh Arya . This event was hosted by the VSPM Dental College Nagpur along with GDC Nagpur *A teeth arrangement essay and tooth preparation competition were held for the PG students by the IPS Nagpur branch , Awards were distributed to the winners by Dr Usha Radke *A Walkathon and public awareness program at Government Medical College was organised to spread the awareness of prosthodontics among general public *A Conference- PROSTHOCON 19- was organised by the IPS Nagpur branch , the theme was “Maxillofacial Rehabilitation- building competency to enhance outcome” This 2 days conference was organised under the leadership of Dr. Usha Radke and the Dept. Of Prosthodontics in association with the IPS Nagpur Branch . 3 Guest Speakers, Dr Satyabodh Guttal , Dr Manju V and Dr Saumyendra Singh delivered lectures . Two Hands on Demonstrations, and a Live Talk by maxillo facial faculty Mr Mahmoud Elbashti from Tokyo Japan, were the highlight of the event .

IPS Kerala State Branch *The branch organised a state level campaign on the promotion of the society on the 22nd January .This was inaugurated by the renowned neuromuscular and plastic surgeon Dr Subramanyam Iyer at the Amrita School of Dentistry ,Kochi ,who hosted the event .Dr Mathai Joseph President IPS Kerala presided .various activities like poster and tag line competitions , musical fest and flash mob were held to add gayety to the event

*The branch hosted the 5th PG orientation program ‘Rebase” on the 22nd to 24th of February 2019 .This was hosted by the Government Dental College Thrissur . The venue was the senate hall of Kerala University of Health Sciences . The Hon V C Dr GKC Nair inaugurated the program .This was the first ever time that the KUHS has associated with a speciality medical body in organising an educative event in its premises . *The IPS Kerala state held its 5th EC meeting on the 22nd of February 2019 at Thrissur. * The 3rd IPS Kerala State conference and AGM will be held on the 4th and 5th of May 2019 at Kottayam Kerala

IPS Telangana State Branch *The branch conducted a CDE program on the 9th January at The Park Hotel Hyderabad .The topic was ‘Digital Dentistry’ . Dr Sun Min Chung was the speaker

*Various activities were conducted by the branch for the promotion of the speciality on the 22nd all over the state .*The branch also held an EC meeting which was attended by a good number of EC members.

IPS West Bengal State branch *The branch conducted a seminar on Prosthodontics on the 22nd of January *25 complete denture patients were provided with denture cleansing kit *On the 5th of February the branch held a meeting of all its members .The main agenda of the meeting was to plan the activities of the

IPS Chandigarh branch ,Odisha state branch , AP State Branch , Navi Mumbai branch ,Punjab Branch* ,Bhopal Branch and UP State Branch also actively organised various events in connection with the Prosthodontist day along with all the other state/regional branches .It was a one -hundred percent effort from every branch all over the country and big kudos to each

IPS Chhattisgarh state branch is all geared up to host the 47th IPS National Conference and periodic meetings have been called by the COC to evaluate the progress .Members of the organising committee are also visiting other state branch meetings to garner registrations and promote the event in a big way . *The branch organised various events to commemorate the Prosthodontist day and the World Cancer Day

OBITUARY : Indian Prosthodontic Society mourns the sad demise of three of its beloved members

Indian Prosthodontic Society Jaipur branch conducted a free dentures camp At Mahatma Gandhi Dental college Jaipur and NIMS Dental college Jaipur on 22nd January 2019 as a part of Community Outreach Program of.Prosthodontic Day.

Mar Baselios Dental College , Kerala Dept of Prosthodontics, Mar Baselios Dental College, Kothamangalam ,Kerala has initiated a camp tp provide complete & partial denture prosthesis  to 20 patients who are below poverty line free of cost in association  with IPS Community outreach  program.  They are planning to initiate the treatment on periodic basic at an old age home in the vicinity and to deliver the dentures on March 7th in an official function in the presence of MLA of the region

Department of Prosthodontics, Adhiparasakthi Dental College. Adhiparasakthi Dental College.conducted a free denture camp under the community outreach program of IPS on the 22nd of January .A total of 100 needy patients in and around villages like Acharapakkam, Tindivanam, Chengalpat, Mamandur & Melmaruvathur were selected with the help of the Community Dentistry department of the college.  - The finished prosthesis were delivered to the patients on the 23rd of January in a public function

Department of Dentistry, Government Medical College, Bhavnagar under the ages of Indian Prosthodontic Society Gujarat State Branch conducted a denture camp on the 22nd of January at Bhavnagar . The team delivered 50 free complete dentures in one and a half days. Along with the denture patients were gifted a denture kit with IPS logo on the denture box The Venue of this event was the department of Dentistry, Government Medical College, Bhavnagar Benefactor Patients were transported from the rural areas and all meals were provided free of cost to them. This program was organized in association with the Department of Prosthodontics, College of Dental Sciences, Amargadh, District- Bhavnagar. AMC College staff along with the PG students delivered 10 free dentures to patients of old age homes

IPS Pune Branch A oral health check up and Prosthodontic counselling camp was held at the DSK Vishwa senior citizens forum where more that 100 patients were evaluated and necessary instructions given .

A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Science , Mangalore A one day Denture camp at Farangipet was successfully conducted by the Department of Prosthodontics, A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in association with Indian Prosthodontic Society Karnataka state branch on 110th February 2019 . The camp was conducted with the participation of 4 Professors, 2 Readers, 16 Post Graduate students who are the members of Indian Prosthodontic Society accompanied by 5 Dental Technicians, 9 Para Medical staff and 3 Electricians. A total of 25 completely edentulous patients were treated with fit in of complete denture prosthesis.

IPS Community outreach program

IPS Chandigarh Branch *Rayat Bahra Dental College, Mohali in association with IPS Chandigarh Branch organised a Free Denture Camp in January during which 17 dentures were delivered. A Press release on this regard was given in many local newspapers.

IPS Chandigarh Branch *National Dental College and Hospital, Derabassi in association with IPS Chandigarh organised Slogan writing Competition on Prosthodontist Awareness, Teeth Arrangement and Best Out of Dental Materials. Winners of all competitions were given trophies. *Bhojia Dental College and Hospital, Baddi along with IPS Chandigarh organised Symposium on Implant v/s Conventional Prosthodontics. *Third EC meeting of the branch was held on 20 January which was well attended by EC members.
