A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered
These definitions indicate that any species at any one time can be considered a weed.
A rice plant in an onion field will be considered a weed
Since no plant is absolutely useless at any one time, a weed can also be defined as a plant whose potentials for damage outweigh its potentials for usefullness.
as any unwanted plants under a particular set of circumstances (human-centered), and
as specific species which have a particular set of characteristics which make them highly successful (adapted) in certain environment (species-centered).
