Foreword

The District Statistical Hand Book, Jajpur’ 2020 is a step forward for evidence based

planning with compilation of sub-district level information. It furnishes block-wise statistics on

Area & Population, Agriculture, Co-operation, Forest, Fisheries, Live Stock & Animal

Husbandry, Industry & Mining, Power, Transport & Communication, Education, Health and

Family Welfare, Banking, Revenue, Police, Crime and Judiciary, Labour & Employment, Public

Distribution, Local Bodies, Election, Women & Child Welfare Programme, Poverty Alleviation

Programme, Disaster Statistics etc. Besides, the publication provides district wise information

on selected indicators which helps to access the relative position of the district in the State.

This publication will be a handy guide to the line Departments at the District and State

level for sectoral and decentralized planning. This will also carter to the district and block level

data requirement for Non-Government Organizations working in the field.

SOCIO ECONOMIC PROFILE: JAJPUR

1. Location: Jajpur district is one of the centrally located districts in Odisha. It lies between 85o

40’ to 86o 44’ East longitude and between 20 o 33’ to 21 o10’ North latitude. It is bounded by

the Keonjhar district in north, Cuttack district in south, Bhadrak district in the east and Dhenkanal

district in the west.

2. Area and Population: The district has an area of 2899 sq. kms and 18.27 lakhs of population

as per 2011 census. The district accounts for 1.86 percent of the state territory and shares 4.35

percent of the state population. The density of population of the district is 630 per sq. kms as

against 270 person per sq.km of the state. It has 1783 villages (including 185 un-inhabited

villages) covering 10 blocks. 10 Tahasils and 1 Subdivisions. As per 2011 census the schedule

caste population is 433387 (23.7%) and schedule tribe population 151432(8.3%). The literacy

percentage of the district covers 80.1 against 72.9 of the state.

3. Climate: The climate condition of the district is generally hot with high humidity during April to

May and cold during December to January. The monsoon generally breaks during the month of

June. Annual rainfall of the district was 1771.8 m.m. in 2020 which is higher than the normal

rainfall (1559.9 m.m.).

4. Agriculture: During the year 2019-20, the net area sown was 140 thousand hectares against

4102 thousand hectares of the state. During the year 2019-20 the production of paddy was

3566584 quintals, 30368 quintals mung, 11868 quintals biri, 2180 quintals kulthi, 88488

quintals groundnuts, 196 quintals mustard, 18023 quintals potatoes,283 quintals jute and

684541 quintals sugarcane.. During 2019-20, the total fertilizers used was 20139 MT in the

district with a breakage of 11042 MT nitrogenous, 6043 MT phosphatic and 3054 MT pottasic

and the consumption of fertilizer per hectare is 81 Kg.

5. Irrigation: During the year 2019-20, it is reported by District Agriculture Officer that the irrigation

potential created during Kharif and Rabi are 58993 hectares and 29705 hectares respectively

through all sources including major / medium irrigation projects in the district.

6. Co-operation: The district has 122 agricultural Co-operative societies with a membership of

311274 The loan advances is to the tune of Rs. 80617.78 lakh and loan outstanding stood at

Rs. 48103.60 lakhs as of 2019-20. The agricultural credit Co-operative societies as more or less

evenly distributed across the 10 Blocks of the district. Besides that there are 29 non-agricultural

credit Co-operative Societies in different blocks of Jajpur district.

7. Forest: District of Jajpur has abundant of Forest area that contributed 10.92 % of the total

geographical area of the district.

8. Veterinary Services: During 2019-20, Milk production is 107.27 thousand MT, production of

eggs is 266.99 lakhs nos. and production of meat is 9.33 thousand MT in this district. During

2019-20, 19 nos. of Hospitals and Dispensaries, 148 nos. of Livestock Aid centers and 99

Artificial Insemination Centers were functioning in the district.

9. Industry and Mining: During the year 2019-20, 2976 nos. of micro small and medium

enterprises have established with total capital investment of about Rs. 20966.94 lakhs with 7244

nos. of Employment generated in Jajpur district.

10. Power: During the year 2019-20, villages so far electrified as on 30.03.2020 is 1598 which

constitutes 100.0 % to the total villages of the district.

11. Transport & Communication: During 2019-20, 199.51 Kms. of National Highways 31.07 kms

of state highways, 56.59 kms. Major district roads, 1041.25 kms of other district roads, 2337.74

kms of Inter-village road, 1789.49 kms of Intra-village road, 1504.12 Kms of village roads and

42.00 kms of forest roads are operating in the district.

12. Education: There were 1351 nos. of primary schools,951 nos. of Up-primary schools, 491 nos.

of Secondary schools and 169 nos. of general colleges in the district during 2019-20. Besides,

there are 3 nos. of engineering schools in the district during year 2019-20 to impart technical

education. The teacher pupil ratio in the primary, upper primary, Secondary School stood at 39,

13 and 11 respectively.

13. Health: The medical facilities are provided by different agencies like Govt., Private individuals

and voluntary organizations in the district. There were 1 nos. DHH, 12 nos. CHC, 59 nos. PHC

of the Allopathic medical institutions including 262 nos. of Sub Centre in the district during the

year 2019-20. There were 22 nos. of Homoeopathic dispensaries and 25 nos. of Ayurvedic

dispensaries in the district during the year 2019-20.

14. Banking: As on December, 2020, there were 222 nos. of All Banks having 9916.43 crore rupees

deposit and 7919.38 crore rupees credit in the district. The district has banking branches

network of 205 out of which 4 (1.80 %) were in the urban area, 59 (26.58 %) in semi-urban area

and 159 (71.62 %) in rural areas. The total number of ATMs in the district stood at 297

15. Collection of Land Revenue: The total collection of land revenue in the district for 2019-20

was Rs. 3358.75 lakh.

16. Poverty Alleviation Programme: In the district total no. of Job card issued was 2.97 Lakh

and total no. of person days generated was 22.43 lakh during the year 2019-20.

17. Disaster Scenario: In terms of Disaster activity the district in graded as very high risk zone for

wind & cyclone, Liable to get flooded and protected area for flood, high risk zone for drought,

moderate damage zone,and less damage zone for earthquake & minor accident prone area for

accident.
