STUDENT—RELATED ACTIVITIES

During the academic year 2015-2016, the Nursing Group conducted various extracurricular

activities such as organizing and facilitating first aid workshops, college events, and community

engagements.

The Nursing Group celebrated

Children’s Day on the 20th of November

with an event dubbed as “Tiny Nurse,

Big Volunteer. The activity was

formulated to motivate young children

to volunteer in society and learn the

basic nursing skills that might be

helpful for them. Twelve (12) students

from Al Mnhil School were chosen to

participate in the event.

During this event, students were

exposed to the nursing skills

laboratory and they were taught the

different basic nursing skills and

practical ways on how to manage and

treat fever, cough, headache and small

wounds.

In order to enhance the knowledge and skills of

various professionals in the university

regarding first aid, the Nursing Group

organized and conducted a First Aid Workshop last

October 16, 2015. The workshop was attended

by more than 150 participants from various

professions and majors.

During the workshop, participants were given

lectures on the management of hyperglycemia,

hypoglycemia, and epilepsy. In order to provide

participants realistic and hands on experience

on providing first aid, training sessions were

provided such as on the management of

fracture, burns, wounds, suffocation, and even

CPR.

The 2nd Nursing Convoy was launched on the 30th of

October 2016 in the vicinity of the College of Law. This

activity aimed: (1) to raise health awareness among

faculty and students, (2) to assess the level of health of

the students and the faculty, and (3) to provide health

education for the participants. The activities were

supported by Dr. Mohammed Al Lamki, the Dean of the

College of Law. The convoy started with an opening

remarks by the nursing group leader, Humaid Al Breike.

The convoy consisted of different stations. The first

station introduced the participants to the Nursing

Group. Participants were educated on the different

blood diseases such as anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency,

iron deficiency, and hemophilia in the second station.

In the third station, participants were given health

education on the importance of healthy eating habits

such as eating breakfast, the serious risks associated

with over consumption of soft drinks, and the benefits

of eating fruits and vegetables.

A first aid station was also set up to provide

participants helpful information about tongue-

swallowing and suffocation. The last station provided

participants with baseline assessments of their health

status such as checking their blood sugar and blood

pressure.

The Nursing Group participated in the Annual Major’s

Exhibition of the University October 4 to 5, 2016. The event

was organized to raise the awareness of students on the

various majors offered in the different colleges of the

University.

During this event, the Nursing Group installed a

separate booth introducing the nursing program of the

College of Nursing as well as the different theoretical

and the clinical courses that are required for successful

completion of the program. The group also introduced

the clinical training sites of the college and showcased

the newly-offered masters’ in nursing program.

The ceremony commenced with a creative

comedian play which illustrated a story of a

freshman student and a colleague at the

college of nursing. Khalid Al Homani, a freshman

nursing student delivered a heartfelt poem to

the audience. Another talented student of the

college, Abass Al Ajmi performed magic tricks to

entertain the attendees. The ceremony

concluded with the awarding of a memorial

souvenir to the graduating students.

national pride and joy, was celebrated by

the students and faculty of the College of

Nursing. Organized by the Nursing

Group, the event was graced by the

students and faculty of the college.

The event started with a short video

that summarized His Majesty's efforts in

improving the country since he took the

role in 1970. Shortly after, an inspiring

speech was delivered by Dr. Esra Al

Khasawneh, the Dean of the College of

Nursing. In his speech, he highlighted

the importance of the occasion and role

the faculty and students play to further
