Students will listen for the words in the story and see how they are used in the story. Next, introduce the vocabulary word. Today’s word is perch. Talk with someone at an animal that perches. When we listen to the story today we want to think about character traits. This is something the students will be familiar with, we are looking at the character’s personality and describing them based on their words and actions! They should recall doing this in books like Make Way for Ducklings and Farfallina and Marcel! First, pick a character trait of the rooster. After you picked a trait or a word to describe the rooster, find an example from the story that supports your answer. Chicks and Salsa Interactive Lesson with Mrs. Balash and Miss Murphy 

Today we will be introducing our book of the week, Chicks and Salsa   

Begin with our vocabulary slideshow. Students will listen for the words in the story and see how they are used in the story. Next, introduce the vocabulary word. Today’s word is perch. Talk with someone at an animal that perches. 

  

When we listen to the story today we want to think about character traits. This is something the students will be familiar with, we are looking at the character’s personality and describing them based on their words and actions!    PHONICS - completed work due by Friday Our new phonics skill will be working with the long -e- sound! We will look at the vowel patterns /ee/ and /ea/ within a word.   Spelling City assignments were assigned and students can complete within 2 weeks. I-ready has a long e phonics activity assigned that should also be completed   Below is a PDF of ee/ea word work students can complete. They only need to do 4 activities in the two weeks. When they are completed, they can be emailed with the work for the day. Students can choose the activities they like and are welcome to do more than 4, but do not need to. Our goal was that if you do not have a printer, many of these activities can be completed on a sheet of paper!

SOCIAL STUDIES- completed google form assessment for Mount Rushmore  

Today we will learn about Mount Rushmore (slides 13-14).. Students will use the US Symbols google slide to read about Mount Rushmore, and watch a video to learn about it’s history. A book is available on Epic for them to read as well. Once they are finished watching, they will complete a google form to review what they learned.  

***Students should only complete activity for Mount Rushmore 

U.S. Symbols Interactive Lesson  WRITING-2 day lesson-No Evidence Needed - 2 DAY LESSON This lesson will last for 2 days. Students will learn about how to use the words some, all, many, most. Students will also review how to use a Table of Contents. Students will practice telling more information through labels and captions and will also learn how to conclude their writing. Writing pages are available to print at the bottom of this document. Students should write for at least 10 minutes Monday and Tuesday. Keep in mind students will be publishing their writing on Thursday so they should begin finalizing which writing to focus on .
