MESSAGE FROMMINISTER OF ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT

With the re-establishment of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development (MED) in July 2018, the new Pakatan Harapan Government has proven its commitment to develop local entrepreneurs who are competitive in the

regional and global marketplace.

Since then, MED has launched the National Entrepreneurship Framework (NEF) on 22 November 2018 covering comprehensive elements of entrepreneurship development plans for Malaysia. Our aim is to provide the necessary facilitation to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Malaysia, including driving the development of the B40, M40 and social entrepreneurs.

There is no doubt that entrepreneurs assume an influential role in the economic growth of a country. Apart from creating job opportunities for the local community, entrepreneurs also attract local and foreign investments, thereby mobilising or creating wealth for the economy. By developing and adopting new innovation in their business, entrepreneurs also assume a key role in increasing the standard of living and quality of life in the community at large. The Malaysian economy also needs to connect with global value chains by developing the skills base, and addressing issues such as inclusive growth, private sector development and good governance.

At present, SME contribution to the GDP stands around 37%. MED is resolute in our mission to increase this figure to 41% by 2020. I believe that organisations such as Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia, has an integral role in helping the Government to achieve this target by exploring new tools and insights to ensure that the country achieves its desired goals over the next several years. This will in turn help us to produce local entrepreneurs and enable our SMEs to become global producers of value-added goods and services that are reliable, resilient and sustainable.

In this regard, I would like to commend Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia, for organising the SME & Entrepreneurship Business Award 2018 and to congratulate all the winners for their success.

Tan Sri Lee Kim Tiong @ Lee Kim Yew, the founder of Country Heights Holdings Berhad, was first appointed to the Board on 1 October 1986. He was re-designated as the Chairman of Country Heights Holdings Berhad on 2 June 2016. Subsequently, he was, on 1 October 2016, re-designated as the Executive Chairman. Tan

Sri Lee Kim Tiong @ Lee Kim Yew was appointed as the Chairman of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee and also a member of the Audit & Risk Management Committee on 2 June 2016. However, he has resigned from both positions on 1 October 2016.

Tan Sri Lee Kim Tiong @ Lee Kim Yew is an established innovative entrepreneur who has stamped his mark in many industries. He has over 30 years of vast experience in developing residential, industrial park, hotel and leisure, commercial and recreation projects. His magnificent development by transforming the one of the World’s largest open cast tin mine into a flagship development such as Palace of the Golden Horses, Mines Wellness Hotel, Mines Waterfront Business Park, Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre (“MIECC”), Mines Wonderland and Mines Resort & Golf Club or better known as “Mines Resort City”. The Mines Resort City has earned the National Creativity & Innovation Award by the Malaysian Design Technology Centre in 2004. In recognition of his immeasurable contribution to the property development and hospitality industry in Malaysia, Tan Sri Lee Kim Tiong @ Lee Kim Yew has been bestowed with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” in the 2008 Technology Business Review ASEAN Awards.

Joel Neoh is one of Southeast Asia’s most recognised and successful young entrepreneurs. Joel is currently the Founder of Fave, a leading mobile payments & rewards platform with strong presence in Malaysia, Singapore and

Indonesia. Fave is supported by some of the most reputable investors in the region including Sequoia Capital.

As a Kuala Lumpur native, Joel was one of the initial founders of the Groupon businesses in Asia Pacific, and headed up the region for 4 years. He played an instrumental role in establishing the high-growth business model that propelled Groupon into a multi billion dollar business, with thousands of employees spanning across 12 countries.

Joel has also co-founded several successful companies including social news platform SAYS.com, and invested in a string of technology funds and startups across Asia. In 2013, SAYS.com merged with Catcha Media and the public-listed company was rebranded as REV Asia. REV Asia was recently acquired by Media Prima for over RM100mil.

Joel has received the Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and was named Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Malaysian Tatler also awarded Joel Entrepreneur Par Excellence in 2018.

He completed his studies in Monash University and Harvard Business School and has lived in a number of Asia Pacific cities, including Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Sydney and Singapore. Today, he remains as an advisory board member of the Monash School of Business and AIESEC, the world’s largest student organization.

In 1993, Bernard Chandran graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Paris American Academy and Pattern Making at L’Union Des Chambers Syndicales Parisiennes, Paris. Immediately his outstanding talent was recognised. Whilst in Paris, he achieved

the exceptional accolade of being the first non-European designer to win both the coveted Silk Cut Young Designers Award and the Open European contest for Look of the Year 2000 in 1991.

Paris inspired Bernard and made him understand his own culture in an even more personal manner. Determined to spin his own game in his home country first, upon graduating, he returned to Malaysia to start his own destiny in fashion, in his words, “to be the Chanel of Malaysia”.

Determination, innovation and hard work brought forth success for the young Bernard. In 1994, he introduced a new silhouette and technique of using embellishment and fabrics in the traditional Malay outfit. The new innovation has since carved a pivotal turn for the way traditional outfits are designed and worn. Well ahead of his time, his talent is well acknowledged amongst the aristocrats in Malaysia and even reached the shores of Brunei. His dream certainly came true and today, he still attends to royal patronage from Brunei, Malaysia and international celebrities like Michelle Yeoh, Lady Gaga, Estelle, Tori Amos, Britain’s former first lady Cherie Blair to Indian beauty icons such as Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen and many others.

Today, Bernard Chandran is an inspiration to many young designers in his home country. He paved the way for many young hopefuls who wish to pursue a career in fashion when many conservative parents in Malaysia do not see the potential of such a career.His influence and talent has gained him numerous recognitions and accolades. In 2007, he was conferred Dato (the Malaysian equivalent of a knighthood) by the Sultan of Pahang for his outstanding contributions to the fashion industry in Malaysia. In 2016, Bernard was honoured with the highest state title ‘Dato’ Sri by the Sultan of Pahang once again. Recognising Bernard for his exceptional work in fashion, this title was awarded only to the most deserving of recipients, earning him the first designer in Malaysia to be conferred the award.

DATO’ PETER NGDato’ Peter Ng advocates the transformational power of education. Growing up in a poor family, he encountered much hardship and everything

seemed scarce. Believing that education would turn his family’s fortunes around, he sought to further his studies. Armed with lots of faith and not much else, he left for Canada to read a double degree in computer science and psychology at Lakehead University.

Returning to Malaysia in 1986, Dato’ Peter Ng observed that the increasing availability of personal computers would change the way work was done and perceived. He decided to provide IT training but a shoestring budget of RM2,000 was all that remained after his studies. Despite this, he persisted and established a computer training institute on the second floor of a shop lot in Petaling Jaya.

Today, that institute has evolved to become UCSI University – Malaysia’s best private university in the 2019 QS World University Rankings. Delving deeper, UCSI is the only Malaysian private provider to be ranked in the world’s top 500, joining the nation’s five research universities in this select category. UCSI is also recognised as one of the world’s top 70 universities under 50 years old in the 2019 QS Top 50 Under 50 exercise. With campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Terengganu, UCSI is home to more than 10,000 students and its alumni hail from more than 110 countries.

While the global recognition is nice to note, Dato’ Peter Ng has always said that UCSI’s success lies with that of its students. Graduate outcomes are prioritised and students enjoy invaluable opportunities to apply their knowledge. Since 2014, UCSI students are annually selected by the world’s best universities like Harvard, Imperial College London, the University of Chicago, Tsinghua University and the University of Queensland, among others, for high impact research programmes that last up to a year.

Never one to forget his roots, Dato’ Peter Ng continuously gives back to society. More than RM150mil in scholarships has been disbursed from day one to deserving students from around the world. Casting a wider net, Ng constantly champions integrity at UCSI, particularly in the area of sustainable development. UCSI is a firm advocate of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the University stands out as the first and only private university in Malaysia to be recognised as a Regional Centre of Expertise by the United Nations University.

Described by international dance connoisseurs as one of the finest artistes of his generation, Ramli Ibrahim is a cultural icon who has performed internationally for more than four decades. His rigorous training in ballet, modern, and Indian classical

dance reflects not only his diverse technical accomplishment, but also his multifaceted approach to the performing arts.

As artistic director of Sutra Dance Theatre, Ramli has choreographed stunning works and nurtured some of the brightest dance talents from Malaysia, many of whom have won international acclaim in both traditional and contemporary scenes.

Ramli has been instrumental in transforming the dance scenario in Malaysia to greater heights. Today, he is known for single-handedly establishing Odissi as a recognisable and widely appreciated dance form in the country, while creating a distinctively Malaysian interpretation of this ancient tradition.

As a pioneer, Ramli is recognised internationally within the arts scene, evident in the numerous accolades conferred upon him. He is acknowledged as a ‘Living Heritage’ by the Government of Malaysia as the United Nations declared him to be a UNESCO Living Treasure in 2012. The President of India awarded Ramli the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2011, the first ever for a Malaysian. The award is recognised as the highest national honour conferred on performing artists, gurus and scholars of the performing arts. He was most recently conferred the Padma Shri Award from the Government of India in April 2018.

It’s been a good year for Malaysia’s favourite celebrity couple, Fattah Amin and Fazura, as they’ve just added yet another accolade to their long list of accomplishments- this time nabbing the honour of being named SME & Entrepreneurship Business Award’s Celebrity

Entrepreneur Couple of the year for 2018!

The prestigious awards ceremony, which is now in its third year, is hosted by Entrepreneurship Foundation Malaysia (MyPreneurship), a non-government organisation that highlights sustainable companies and individuals with strong entrepreneurship traits. SEBA 2018 was then set up to recognise Malaysia’s outstanding entrepreneurs and enterprises that transform the face of industries they operate in. Despite their constantly busy schedules, Fattah and Fazura continue to break the boundaries outside their music and acting careers, by pouring their passion into their own self-made businesses.

Fazura, who was recently in New York to present her fashion line Fazbulous at New York Fashion Week, says she is humbled by the recognition. “I love what I do, and I’m truly blessed to not only have an acting and singing career, but to also share my love of fashion through my own label,” she adds. “I wouldn’t have gotten this far without the support of my brother, Ahmad Faiz Sharifuddin, who has been an amazing guru and partner since I stepped into the business world.” Her next movie, ‘The Legend of Pontianak’, is scheduled for release in 2019.

Her husband, Fattah, is definitely as driven as she is. The success of his popular restaurant, Stalker’s Cafe, drives him to continue dabbling in different entrepreneurial ventures. “It’s a great feeling when people tell me they enjoy the food and atmosphere at the cafe and when I see the same faces come back again. That’s a sign that the food’s really good!,” he laughs. “It’s such an honour to be acknowledged by SEBA 2018 for all our hard work.”

The power couple, who are about to celebrate their one-year anniversary, also hinted on the possibility of venturing into business together, but continue to remain coy on what they have planned. “It’s a secret for now,” Fazura says. “We’ve been discussing the idea for awhile, and we want to really create something we’ll be proud to share with our friends and fans.”

Datuk Kamal Khalid, aged 47, a Malaysian, has been Group Managing Director of Media Prima Berhad since 2 August 2017. He has been with Media Prima since May 2009. He has previously held various positions including the Chief Executive Officer,

Television Networks, Chief Operating Officer, Business Development and International, Chief Operating Officer, Group Shared Services and Head of Content Distribution at Media Prima Berhad.

Prior to joining the company on 4 May 2009, he served as Head of the Communications Unit in the Prime Minister’s Office from October 2003 to April 2009.

In addition, he has also worked in the financial services sector, gaining experience in banking and private equity financing. He spent three and a half years at the Policy and Development Division at the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange ( now Bursa Malaysia), where he eventually rose to the position of Manager, International Affairs. He also was an independent, non-executive director of Utusan Melayu (M) Berhad from 2004 to 2009.

Datuk Kamal sits on the board of Media Prima’s subsidiaries. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Creative Content Association Malaysia, a Council Member of the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia, an Advisory Board member of the Asian Television Awards since 2016 and a Board of Director of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

Datuk Kamal received his secondary education in MRSM Muar, Johor and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) Degree from the University of Nottingham, England in 1994. He was selected to become Malaysia’s Eisenhower Fellow for 2005.

In 2008, Farhash represented Malaysia at the Asian Renaissance Programme in Jakarta, Indonesia and he was also awarded the Honorary Humanitarian Consulship by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Fellowship in 2009. He also received awards for 100 Most Influential Young Entrepreneurs in 2017 and Bumiputera in Business from One Awards in 2018. Additionally, Farhash received the award for Mega Potential Startup on behalf of Swag Technologies from SME & Entrepreneurship Business Awards in 2017.

Farhash is consistently developing his skills and challenging himself. His main area of responsibilities is to make executive decisions related to business and finance on behalf of the company. Super WiFi Anywhere you Go, better known as SWAG, is a tech start-up whose mission is to reduce the digital divide by providing fiber-like internet speeds and reliability to anyone anywhere and at any time by making better use of existing network infrastructures. Swag was incorporated in 2013 and the company has been relentlessly moving forward since then. With a sound background in Mechanical Engineering and constant experimenting, he has been conferred with numerous product and entrepreneurship awards both locally and internationally. From winning the award for the Most Innovative Project from the Institute of Malaysian Engineers in 2013 to presenting his product to the 6th Malaysian Prime Minister more than once, and recently being selected as the winner of Laureate’s Here for Good 2016 award in the United States, Ganesh never stops incorporating innovative green technology to improve his products’ efficiency and maximize the benefits received by the end users. He was the recipient of the Tatler’s Force for Good Award, a recognition of his humanitarian work in Malaysia in 2017 and in the same year named one of the top 30 entrepreneurs under 40 years old by Malaysian Business Magazine, the oldest English Business Magazine in Malaysia. In 2018 Ganesh was invited by the Obama Foundation to participate in a round table session with the former president himself.

President of the Association for the Protection of the Natural Heritage of Malaysia or PEKA, Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil is on a long and arduous fight to save the environment.

For years, she has been vocal about illegal logging and deforestation in the country and intends to continue advocating and educating Malaysians on the importance of protecting and preserving the biodiversity of the planet, through PEKA.

She is currently the director of the Tanah Aina Sdn Bhd which operates a chain of eco-resorts and cafes including Tanah Aina Farrah Soraya Resort in Tras Raub, Pahang; Tanah Aina Farhana Resort in Punggai, Johor; Tanah Aina Fareena Café & Restaurant, Lebuhraya Karak, Pahang; Tanah Aina Farouq Resort, Tras Raub, Pahang; Tanah Aina Fahad Glamping Resort, Ulu Dong, Raub; Tanah Aina Café in Batu 3 Shah Alam, Selangor; Tanah Aina Azfeer, Sg. Established In 1977, MOFAZ was founded by Haji Mohamed Fauzy bin Abdul Hamid (Haji Fauzy). It started off as a humble trading house dealing primarily with Fast Moving Consume Goods (FMCG)

The first and most prominent marina built was Rebak Island Marina off Langkawi.

Then in the early 1990s, MOFAZ set up a flying academy in Langkawi, which led to the birth of MOFAZ Air and MOFAZ Fixed Base Operations (FBO). The academy trained and graduated 109 pilots and some of them are now flying Airbus planes. MOFAZ was also instrumental in setting up the country’s first no-frills airline, Air Asia. In 1993, together with DRB-HICOM, MOFAZ birthed Air Asia. In 2002, DRB-HICOM’s shares were sold to Tune Air, who then took Air Asia to become the world’s leading “no frills” airline.

In the year 2000, Leslie Gomez set foot in Malaysia and established himself as a pioneer in the hospitality industry. After a few years of honing his experience as operations manager with a prominent

hospitality group, Leslie ventured into setting up his own restaurant business in 2003.

Leslie established The Olive Tree Group in 2003, heading the group as its Founder and Executive Director. Under his guidance, the organisation has since grown and diversified, owning and operating 17 high performance restaurants and pubs in Malaysia, with other projects in the pipeline.

Partnering with international chefs, mainly from India, together with local chefs, The Olive Tree set the bar for quality cuisine and superior service for the Malaysian F&B landscape. From 2014-2016, The Olive Tree was recognised as one of the best places in Malaysia to visit, eat and drink.

Some of the group’s establishments such as Rock Bottom, a gastro-sports-bar that serves good North Indian food and showcases live performances by local bands, has become well-known as one of the places to head to in Klang Valley for a great night out.

Leslie’s drive for perfection has led him to where he is today. With food at the heart of his business ventures, Leslie believes that the flavour of the food as well as the quality of service of his staff need to be perfect in order to make a lasting impression on the customer. Fairuz Fauzy is the second son of Haji Fauzy – founder of the MOFAZ Group – and the next generation of MOFAZ’ leadership. A former race-car driver, Fairuz has participated in various

motorsports circuits, pioneering the way for driver development and the evolution of motor sports programmes in the country together with the support of his father’s company, MOFAZ.

Fairuz started competing in karting events in 1994 before making a move to the British Formula Ford at the start of 1999. He then moved to the British Formula Renault, developing his skills before moving up to British Formula 3 in 2002 (B-Class). In 2003, he moved to the main class, driving for both the SYR and Promatecme teams before driving for the Menu and P1 teams in 2004.

In 2005, Fairuz moved to the GP2 Series, becoming one of a few Asian drivers in the championship. During this time, he was also one of A1 Team Malaysia’s drivers along with Alex Yoong, in the A1 Grand Prix series.

At the pinnacle of his career, Fairuz was chosen to become the test and reserve driver for the Formula One team with Spyker F1 Team, Lotus Racing F1 and Lotus Renault F1 until 2012.

With MOFAZ Racing, the company’s own international motorsports team, MOFAZ contributed a giant step in steering Malaysia into the global motor sports limelight by managing their own karting circuit, the organisation of Rotax Max World Series, as well as providing support and a platform to launch local racing talents onto the world stage.

Dato’ Tiu Sii Chuon incorporated his first company, Syarikat Sri Minyak Tenaga Sdn. Bhd. in 1986. He started as a deckhand and eventually became a ship engineer within 12 years.

The company successfully acquired Shell dealership in 1986, after Dato’ Tiu started the operation of his first floating barge along the Rajang River with four people including his wife, Datin Siew Kim Geok. Owing to his hard work and commitment to making a difference, the business gradually flourished from day to day.

Today, the ‘Sri Minyak’ name is synonymous with Shell and its quality products. He then diversified into Shell lubricants, a business which has grown under his capable leadership over the years, currently making him Sarawak’s largest Shell lubricants dealer.

“There is no success without hard work” – with this saying in mind, Mohd Asri Atan invested RM2,000 of his savings into an online business of selling custom-designed shoes under the moniker ‘Kak Maneh’. His flair for producing custom-designed shoes, echoing his personal style, soon caught the attention of the local fashion industry.

In the early days, Asri relied completely on social media to market his products. He only catered to pre-orders due to lack of funds to buy and store additional stock, and delivered his products via post. He strengthened his brand presence by participating in bazaars and flea markets, in order to give consumers a first-hand look and feel of his shoes.

In November 2014, the first FRKL21 storefront opened in Kota Damansara, raking in sales of about RM50,000 a month in the beginning. Asri has since opened two other brick-and-mortar stores in Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi, Johor respectively.

The brand has also launched ‘FRKL21 on Wheels’, making FRKL21 the first and only mobile shoe store in the country. There are currently about 20 workers on his payroll across all his stores, and the brand earns a total revenue of about RM1 million every year.

CADS is ASEAN’s first and only comprehensive Data Science training institution. iREHAB was conceived with a strong foundation in providing neurological rehabilitation, expanding its services over time to meet the needs of its clients, and currently includes musculoskeletal, paediatric and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Prior to the renovation of the filling station in August 2014, its retail business was operating on diesel and unleaded RON95 supply with 10 pumps on five islands (filling stations). Additional four islands and eight pumps were added to the station after the renovation had been completed. This helped to boost their business and encouraged more customers to come to the station.

In line with its booming business, the company then started to offer Shell V-Power RON97. Additionally, the grocery sales from its retail outlet also gradually increased with a growing list of items sold to the consumers. At the end of 2015, the station was chosen as Sarawak’s 1st DO Select in Borneo, and its filling station was the first to be equipped with a Surau in Sarawak, which encouraged more visits.

In the same year, Gorgeous Trading was awarded the 5-Star Restroom Award by Sibu Rural district council, indicating that the station offered the best and most hygienic washroom facilities with amenities for baby changing. iHome provides short-term inpatient services that help bridge the accommodation and care gap between the hospital and home – once the patient has been discharged from the hospital’s care. iHome provides excellent care with a healing home environment and dedicated clinical staff, which are geared towards helping the patient gain the required skills to improve or resume their daily routine at home.

Finally, iKids offers detailed assessments and treatments for special needs children. Its program is customised to accommodate the varied needs of children, to improve and empower them in performing daily activities. MOEP or Maze of Event Planner is a full-service event styling and planning boutique that specialises in customised corporate events and bespoke wedding services. MOEP’s motto is to motivate young fashion designers to produce quality and elegant designs for its customers.

Its founder, Kiki Law, was motivated by a personal bittersweet experience during her own engagement and wedding ceremonies. Not only did she have a poorly designed wedding dress, but her reception had to be cancelled due to the non-delivery of her wedding gown! This left an unpleasant and lasting memory for her and her guests. It was an experience she wished that no other bride would have to go through.

Thus, began MAZE, which operates on the philosophy known as ‘On Time’. Their priority is to ensure that the collection of wedding dresses, ready-to-wear dresses, haute couture, and so on are made and delivered on time! The company also ensures it stays ahead with the latest fashion designs and market trends in the bridal business. Additionally, MOEP is also embarking on various promotional campaigns to publicise its services to the local market.

At the core of MOEP’s philosophy is time management, which is also one of their biggest challenges. Among their major successes include raising RM68,888 for the Dignity For Children’s Foundation by auctioning their own signature gown. In 2017, the company received special orders for three custom-made wedding gowns and in January 2018, orders were placed for 13 customised evening gowns. Apart from organising successful events, MOEP also has plans to launch plus-size gowns in 2019 and open its second bridal shop outlet at Desa Parkcity’s Arcadia Mall.

Since then, the company has grown from strength to strength as its activities have branched out from the supply and installation of air conditioning systems and electrical installations for the control equipment, to the installation of electrical systems for substations up to 33KV.

In 1996, the company was recognised as a charismatic Bumiputera Construction Contractor and in 2000, the company was awarded the Village Street Light project by the Ministry of Rural development, valued at RM1.5 million. The company was subsequently awarded the project to design, supply and install electrical systems for the Nibong Tebal Industrial Training Institute, a project valued at RM10.5 million.

On February 2016, Amir Shafiq bin Adham took over the helm as Managing Director/CEO of STSB, and under his management the company has further reinforced its vision and mission to become a leading contractor in the country specialising in mechanical and electrical systems. SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp. Malaysia) is the central coordinating agency (CCA) under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development Malaysia (MED) that coordinates the implementation of development programmes for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across all related Ministries and

agencies. It acts as the central point of reference for research and data dissemination on SMEs and entrepreneurs, as well as provides business advisory services for SMEs and entrepreneurs throughout the country. SME Corp. Malaysia also assumes the role of the Secretariat to the National SME Development Council (NSDC), which is chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The genesis of SME Corp. Malaysia dates back to 2 May 1996, when a specialised agency was established under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to spur the development of small and medium industries (SMIs) by providing infrastructure support, financial assistance, advisory

services, market access and various other support programmes. Known as the Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC), its aim was to develop capable and resilient Malaysian SMIs to be competitive in the global market. SME Corp. Malaysia was gazetted as an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development Malaysia (MED) in November 2018. Today, SME Corp. Malaysia is poised to realising its vision of being the nation’s premier organisation for the development of progressive SMEs to enhance wealth creation and social well-being of the nation. In fulfilling its mission of promoting the development of innovative, resilient and globally-competitive SMEs through effective coordination and provision of business support, SME Corp. Malaysia endeavours to empower the critical mass of SMEs with efficient processes, robust business models, access to financial resources, smart partnerships, market-entry strategies and sustainable growth solutions, through various platforms and programmes for SME and entrepreneur development. SME Corp. Malaysia functions as the central point of reference for information and advisory services for SMEs nationwide. SME Corp. Malaysia provides business advisory services and information to SMEs and entrepreneurs through SME Hub which is located at the Head Office in Kuala Lumpur, and 12 State Offices throughout the country. SME Hub also acts as the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development Malaysia’s Entrepreneurship One-Stop Centre (OSC-MED), which houses various agencies under MED; including SME Bank, TEKUN Nasional, Bank Rakyat, National Institute of Entrepreneurship (INSKEN), UDA Holdings, Cooperative College of Malaysia (CCM) and Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM), as well as other agencies; such as Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) that provide advisory services and facilitation to SMEs and entrepreneurs. On top of that, SME Corp. Malaysia also implements various programmes and initiatives under its own auspices, including its annual flagship programmes; such as the SME Annual Showcase (SMIDEX), Enterprise 50 (E50) Award and SME Week. As the central coordinating agency (CCA) for the overall SME development in Malaysia, SME Corp. Malaysia coordinates, streamlines, monitors and evaluates the progress and effectiveness of SME development programmes implemented by 15 Ministries and more than 60 agencies. The information collected from the relevant Ministries and agencies is reported annually under the SME Integrated Plan of Action (SMEIPA). SME Corp. Malaysia is also the agency driving the implementation of the SME Masterplan (2012 - 2020) that charts the policy direction of SME development until 2020. The Masterplan aims to accelerate the growth of SMEs via innovation-driven and productivity-led strategies for Malaysia to achieve a high-income nation status by 2020. In addition, SME Corp. Malaysia forges close partnerships with industry associations and strategic partners from both the public and private sector, with the aim of fostering and strengthening sector and industry-specific cooperation and collaboration, as to further support and promote the development of SMEs and entrepreneurs in Malaysia.

MRCA aims to create a highly supportive environment to build retail businesses and pool ideas, experiences and efforts to tap on various opportunities in Malaysia as well as abroad. Its vision is to be recognized as one of the most influential retail bodies in Malaysia, supporting the development and globalization of the retail industry.

Since it was established, MRCA has developed into a very strong organisation, comprising of more than 440 leading retail chain stores operators as well as franchisors and covering more than 25,000 outlets throughout Malaysia.. With such a vast network of retail outlets, these members help provide more than 150,000 job opportunities to Malaysians across the country, and the number is expected to continue to expand, judging from the bright potential of the retail industry. MRCA members have also successfully expanded overseas in countries such as U.S.A., Australia, China beside the African, Middle East and ASEAN countries. MRCA provides its members with the opportunity to capitalize on the collective experience and resources of Malaysia’s dynamic group of retail experts.
