Tricks

• Per Student (Study Path) Per Term

o SFBSTRH - Structured Registration Header Table

o SFRSTRD - Structured Registration Rule Detail Table

• Populated when a student first accesses Structured Registration

• Not cleared down automatically

• Need to be cleared if the requirements change

• Area Qualifiers are checked by Structured Registration

o Program must be non-Captive

o Areas must be Dynamic

o The Area can be attached to the non-Captive program instead of having qualifiers

o If Area is not attached, then student must meet qualifier rules

o Non-Dynamic Areas will not be included for non-Captive programs, even if they are attached

• Captive Programs will only include attached areas

• Gives the ability to prevent students from changing a course registration status

• Define the course registration status that prevents change

• Multiple course registration statuses can be defined

• Feature delivered in Banner Registration Self Service 9.5

o GTVSDAX Internal Code ‘STOP_RSTS’

o Set External Code as Course Registration Status that cannot be changed by Students

• Course requirements within a

rule type can be ordered using

the sets and subsets columns

• Rule Types (Mandatory/Optional/Elective) will always be grouped together

• Rule Types across different areas or groups will merge together

• CR-000160133

o When using Structured Registration by Student Attributes, Structured

Registration does not recognise when Student Attributes have ended for students

and incorrectly displays the areas associated with the Student Attributes that

have ended

• Impacts continuing students

• Fix Released: Banner Student Registration Self Service 8.17.1

• 7 March 2019

© 2019 Ellucian 27

• CR-000162387

o After clicking Submit on the Structured Registration tab, the page is not

refreshed. This can be confusing to students as the rules on the left panel do not

appear to be validated until a refresh of the page is done manually.

Things to Avoid

© 2019 Ellucian 29

• Structured Registration does not look at Student Adjustments in CAPP

Student Adjustments

© 2019 Ellucian 30

• General Requirements, e.g. Total Required Credits or Total Required Courses are not

checked by Structured Registration

• This includes Program (SMAPROG), Area (SMAAREA) and Group (SMAGROP)

Program, Area and Group General Requirements

30

© 2019 Ellucian 31

• Separate Report or CAPP Compliance can be used to check General Requirements

instead

Program, Area and Group General Requirements

31

© 2019 Ellucian 32

• No simple way to exclude areas from CAPP Compliance processing

• This may be an issue if program structures need to be different for Structured Registration

purposes than they are for Compliance

Conflict between Structured Registration and Compliance

© 2019 Ellucian 33

• Scenario where a course appears as optional in one group or area and mandatory in

another

• In OBU implementation: Course will display as two requirements in Structured Registration

and both will be met when the course is registered

• Planned go live with Banner June 2019

o Already live with CRM Recruit

o Also live with Banner Student CAPP, Catalogue and Schedule

• Implementing Banner Student Registration Self Service

o Structured Registration to be used by all students

o First cohort – new students starting in September 2019

• Testers consisting of students (UG/PG/Home/International)

• Two days of testing – 11 and 12 Dec 2018

• 19 testers divided into three cohorts as per their availability

• The screen resolutions were changed to collect feedback on a laptop screen size

• Testers were offered a facilitation talk, a guide and also an option to go for support from a

member of staff

Testing Approach

© 2019 Ellucian 37

• Was the system intuitive? – Scale of 1-5, 5 highest

o Mean average score of 4

o No testers gave a score of 1 or 2

• Do you believe this process will provide a

positive experience to students?

o All student testers answered:

Survey

38

© 2019 Ellucian 39

• Most of the participants could complete the task in hand

o Two opted for one to one guidance

• Two testers did register for all the credits in a single semester, when the

requirements were over the whole academic year

o One of these opted for one-one guidance for correction

Results

© 2019 Ellucian 40

• As expected, students on single honours and postgraduate taught programmes took less

time to complete registration than those on joint honours

• The maximum time taken by a tester trying to register on year 1 joint honours around 25

minutes
