Help us learn about new things.
Non fiction books are made up of facts which are true statements.
Example of a fact: You are in first grade!
Informational text
● When reading an informational text, the author’s goal is to teach you something new about a specific topic. Authors will use different facts and examples to help us learn.
Sorting through all the information
● There can be a lot of new things to learn when we read an informational text. That is why it is important to reflect on what is the main idea of the text and what reasons are listed through out the text that support that idea.
Author’s Point
● The author’s point is the main idea of the informational text.
● It is the most important thing that the author wants to you learn after you are done reading.
● The author’s point will be repeated throughout the entire text with various examples or facts.
● When you are finished reading a text, you can go back to reread and help you figure out what is the most important idea.
Reasons
There are different reasons of support in informational texts to help the reader discover the author’s point or main idea.
The author needs to prove their point to the reader, which requires different facts to support their ideas.
Facts require evidence or examples to prove that they are true.
