Agnihotra has its origin in the most ancient Vedic sciences of bio-energy, medicine, agriculture

and climate engineering. When Agnihotra is applied in medicine and agriculture it is called

Homa Therapy. When Homa Therapy is applied to Agriculture it is called Homa Organic

Farming. Homa Organic Farming is a system of agriculture that can be added to any organic

farming practice. This ancient Vedic farming technique promises an increase in crop yields with

minimal input costs. The practice is used to treat the atmosphere, the soil, plants, pests and

disease problems. With chemical fertilizers and pesticides it becomes necessary to increase the

dosage and strength or alter formulas as years go by. Then a stage comes when nothing grows

unless you use them. If you do use them they ruin the soil and subsoil water. The harmful

chemicals are ingested into the body when we eat food grown under these conditions. Then a

few years later nothing grows at all and land that was once fertile and produced abundant crops

has to be abandoned. These are some of the reasons why several communities started thinking in

terms of organic farming and biological pest control. This worked for a while but as the pollution

content of the atmosphere increased and things got compounded, organic farmers came into

terrific difficulties. With increased doses of acid rain the top few inches of soil on Earth are likely

to be totally destroyed so that nothing will grow. The answer to our ills lies in Agnihotra Organic

Farming.

Agnihotra is the basic HOMA for all HOMA fire practices given in the ancient Vedic

sciences of bioenergy, psychotherapy, medicine, agriculture, biogenetics, climate

engineering and interplanetary communication. Agnihotra is a process of purifying the

atmosphere through a specially prepared fire. Since it does not harm anything it is

better relates with organic farming practice.

Agnihotra is a Yagnya to be performed throughout your life, everyday regularly at

sunrise and sunset. All other Yagnyas are time bound and are performed for achieving a certain

purpose. Not so with Agnihotra this is to be performed every morning and evening without a

break throughout your life. It becomes part of your life or rather life becomes purposeful and

meaningful because of it.

What is Agnihotra? What is Agnihotra? What is Agnihotra? What is Agnihotra?

• Agnihotra is a simple healing fire from the ancient science of Ayurveda.

Agnihotra is the antidote for all the problems we have created for ourselves and for the

whole of Nature.

• Agnihotra is a process of purifying the atmosphere through a specially prepared fire.

• The process involves preparing a small fire with dried cow-dung cakes in a copper pyramid

of fixed size and putting some grains of rice and ghee (clarified unsalted butter) into the fire

exactly at sunrise and sunset to the accompaniment of two simple mantras.

• Agnihotra is the basic HOMA for all HOMA fire practices given in the ancient Vedic

sciences of bioenergy, psychotherapy, medicine, agriculture, biogenetics, climate

engineering and interplanetary communication. According to science of HOMA Therapy

there is only a slight difference between the healing properties of gold and copper when used

as pyramid containers for preparing Agnihotra fire.

• Agnihotra is tuned to the biorhythm corresponding to sunrise/sunset. You can practice

Agnihotra in your apartment, garden, office or car. It takes only a few minutes of your time

daily.

Who can Who can Who can Who can Practice Practice Practice Practice Agnihotra?Agnihotra?Agnihotra?Agnihotra?

• Anyone in any walk of life can do Agnihotra and heal the atmosphere in his or her own

home.

• Thousands of people all over the world have experienced that Agnihotra reduces stress, leads

to greater clarity of thought, improves overall health, gives one increases energy, and makes

the mind fuller of love.

Materials Required for AgnihotraMaterials Required for AgnihotraMaterials Required for AgnihotraMaterials Required for Agnihotra

To perform Agnihotra you require:

• copper pyramid of prescribed shape and size

• dried cow-dung cakes

• 100% pure cow's ghee (clarified butter)

• unpolished, unbroken rice grains

For Agnihotra you require a copper pyramid of specific size and

shape. Copper is a conductor for subtle energies. Just at

morning Agnihotra all the electricities, energies, ethers are

attracted to the pyramid in its shape. At sunset these energies

are thrust out in same shape.

1.1.1.1. RiceRiceRiceRice

Uncooked, unbroken pieces of rice preferably less polished or whole brown rice should be

used for Agnihotra. If the rice is broken the chemical analysis of both pieces may be the same

but the subtle energy structure is broken and hence, it should not be used for Agnihotra

healing fire, states the ancient science of bioenergy.

2.2.2.2. GheeGheeGheeGhee (Clarified(Clarified(Clarified(Clarified Butter)Butter)Butter)Butter)

Place pure UNSALTED, unadulterated butter from cow’s milk in a saucepan and bring it to a

slow boil over low heat. Remove and discard the white substance that rises to the top. Strain

the liquid through a fine strainer. What passes through is ghee. Store the ghee in a container.

It does not have to be refrigerated. Please note ghee must be made from only 100% pure cow’s

milk and not mixed with milk from any other species such as goat or sheep.

3.3.3.3. DriedDriedDriedDried CowCowCowCow DungDungDungDung

Dried cow dung cakes are used to prepare Agnihotra fire. How to prepare dried cow dung:

Make pancake-like patties from fresh cow dung and let them dry in the sun on a window

screen or similar material. Store the dry dung patties for daily use. Cow dung is medicinal. In

all ancient cultures, like the native Indians of North and South America, Scandinavians, Asians

and Africans, cow dung applications are used for a variety of ailments. In books of folk

medicine practiced in Europe, one finds many references to cow dung as a medicinal

substance. When we use the words cow dung, we mean dung from the male or female progeny

of the cow species only.

Morning Agnihotra mantra:

Sooryáya swáhá, sooryáya idam na mama

Evening Agnihotra mantra:

agnaye swáhá, agnaye idam na mama

prajápataye swáhá, prajápataye idam na mama

(Accented "á" is pronounced as the ‘a’ in father. Unaccented "a" is pronounced as the 'a' in

mature.) After each word swáhá offer one portion of rice/ghee to the fire.

Agnihotra HutAgnihotra HutAgnihotra HutAgnihotra Hut

One hut, the main hut or Agnihotra hut, is where the AGNIHOTRA fire is performed daily at

sunrise and sunset. It is ideal to build this hut in the centre of the farm, if possible. Size should be

approx. 3 x 4 meters, the longer side aligned with the EAST/WEST axis. Entrance has to be from

the WEST and one will sit down facing EAST to do the fires.

• Place a flat piece of dried cow dung at the bottom of the copper pyramid.

• Arrange pieces of dried cow dung, which have been coated with ghee in the pyramid in

such a manner as that allow air to pass.

• Apply a little ghee on the small piece of cow dung and light it. Insert this lighted piece of

cow dung in the pyramid. Soon all the dung in the pyramid will catch fire.

• You may use a hand fan to help the flame. However, do not blow through the mouth to

avoid bacteria from the mouth getting into the fire.

• Do not use any mineral oil or similar material to start the fire.

• At the exact time of sunrise and sunset when the offerings are made the fire should be

fully ablaze in the pyramid.

• Take a few grains of rice in a dish or your left palm and apply a few drops of ghee.

• Exactly at sunrise utter the first Mantra and after the word SWAHA add a few grains of

rice from your right hand (as little as you can hold in the pinch of your fingers will be

sufficient) in the fire.

• Utter the second Mantra and after the word SWAHA add a few grains of rice from the

right hand in the fire.

• At sunset do the same by using evening Mantras.

Lahoty and Rana (2013), Pop. Kheti, 1(4):49-54

• Agnihotra Mantras are to be recited only once and only two offerings given at each

Agnihotra performance.

• If you miss the timing it is not Agnihotra and you will not get the healing effect on the

atmosphere or in the ash.

• After each Agnihotra try to spare as many minutes as you can for meditation. You can sit

quietly at least till the fire extinguishers itself. Agnihotra creates a medicinal and healing

atmosphere.

• If possible the Agnihotra pyramid and the energy resulting from the Agnihotra process is

best left undisturbed until the next Agnihotra time.

• Just before the next Agnihotra you can empty the ash using your right hand and store it in

a bag, box, and glass jar or clay pot. The ash from the Agnihotra fire is extremely

medicinal. It can be ingested daily. The ash is also a powerful fertilizer for the garden or

farm and beneficial in any water source to purify the water.

• There is no future now in agriculture without organic farming. But, there is no future in

organic farming without Agnihotra and Homa Therapy.

• Agnihotra heals the atmosphere, replenishes the nutrients necessary for healthy,

organically grown crops.

• Agnihotra Organic Farming is holistic healing for agriculture and can be used in

conjunction with any good organic farming system.

• By practising Homa Organic Farming one can grow maximum yield in minimum

agricultural area and keep the soil fertile, the water pure and the atmosphere nutritious.

• Agnihotra is a very simple and easy method to conquer the evils of pollution. Agnihotra

purifies the atmosphere. The purification of the atmosphere purifies the Prana, the life

energy, and thus Prana purifies the mind. For a happy living, purified mind is a necessity.

Anybody who has the will and desire to lead life successfully and in a disciplined way, can

adopt this practice of Agnihotra immediately.

• Agriculture is a very important enterprise. It is for this reason the farmer is called “giver

of food”.

• All business is based on agricultural production and it is the backbone of our economy.

• This may be so, but in the present times we find that the farmers are greatly nervous,

distressed and are in a miserable state. Caught in the vicious cycle of rampant use of

chemical fertilizers and pesticides they are on the way of their certain downfall. The

reasons for such a downfall are the decline in the fertile quality of their farmland,

constantly increasing agricultural expenditure and compulsion to sell toxic food, fruit and

vegetables in the market. One farmer treats his vegetable crop today with chemicals etc.

and tomorrow he sells it in the market. He is well aware of the ill effects of the toxic

Popular Kheti ISSN:2321-0001 54

Lahoty and Rana (2013), Pop. Kheti, 1(4):49-54

chemicals. Another farmer grows vegetables following agnihotra farming method and sells

his produce in the market place knowing very well that his vegetables are abundantly rich

with life-produce. However one feels pain somewhere at the back of his mind for having

sold toxic produce while the other feels extremely satisfied on having made available

nectareous produce to the people.

• Due to some unavoidable reason if agnihotra is not performed on a certain occasion it will

not harm anything but see that it is continued from the next timing. Right from sowing

till harvesting agnihotra has to be performed regularly on farm.

Treatment of the seedsTreatment of the seedsTreatment of the seedsTreatment of the seeds

• Seeds are to be treated with cow’s urine and Agnihotra ash. This treatment is very

important because it is only through this process seed born diseases are controlled.

• Whichever seed is to be sown please soak it is cow’s urine. Take it out after a few hours

and mixing it with Agnihotra ash spread it in a shade for drying. Seeds can also be soaked

in Agnihotra ash mixed cow’s urine.

• Seeds of paddy (Rice), fruits and vegetables can be kept soaking. It is not possible to soak

seeds of Wheat, Gram and Lentil in cow’s urine.

• Therefore putting these on the ground envelop in cow’s urine. That is, spray cow’s urine

on these seeds so that they are properly soaked and then mix these with Agnihotra ash

and then spread so them on the ground for drying. Sow them on drying.

• In case of soyabean, prepare a solution of cow’s urine and Agnihotra ash and using it as a

medium for culture keep on sowing.

• Agnihotra is basically a healing process. The medicinal fumes emanating from Agnihotra

have been observed by researchers in the field of microbiology to be clearly bacteriostatic

in nature. They eradicate bacteria and other microorganisms, which are the root cause of

sickness and disease.

• Crops such as bananas, cocoa, soya bean, cotton, tomatoes, mangos, coconut, papaya and

lemons are just a few of the success stories. Homa Therapy has also been successful with

livestock and humans.

• Agnihotra works by purifying the air through the smoke, while a handful of ash can be

put in the irrigation system to cleanse the water, both acting as medicine for the farm.
