Pulau Weh, dengan ibukotanya Sabang, merupakan bagian dari kepulauan Indone-sia. Weh adalah pulau kecil yang indah yang terletak di ujung barat laut pulau Sumatera. Ini adalah di bagian barat dari kepulauan In-donesia. Kawasan Sabang adalah 153 km2 yang terbagi menjadi dua kecamatan, 18 Kemukiman, dan 72 desa. Topografi meli-puti dataran rendah, tanah bergelombang, berbukit, dan bergunung, dan batu-batu di sepanjang pantai.

Weh Island, with it capital is Sabang City, is part of the Indonesian archipelago. Weh is a beautiful small Island located at the northwestern tip of the island of Sumatra. It is in the westernmost part of the Indone-sian archipelago. Sabang area is 153 km2 which is divided into two sub-district, 18 Kemukiman, and 72 villages. The topogra-phy includes lowland, undulating land, hilly, and mountainous, and the rocks along the coast.

Jumlah penduduk Kota Sabang sampai dengan Desember 2012 tercatat seban-yak 31.782 (BPS 2013) yang terdiri dari 16,137 Penduduk Laki-laki dan 15,645 Penduduk Perempuan.

Penduduk Kota Sabang terkonsentrasi di bagian timur laut Pulau Weh, yakni di daerah Gampong Kuta Ateuh, Kuta Barat dan Kuta Timue, Cot Ba’u dan Ie Meulee. Berdasarkan data Sabang dalam angka 2013, komposisi kelompok usia penduduk terbanyak adalah pen-duduk usia 0 -9 tahun dan kelompok usia 15 – 34 tahun atau termasuk ke-dalam golongan usia produktif.

Sabang dapat ditempuh dengan 45 menit atau 2,5 jam perjalanan dengan feri dari pelabuhan Ulee Lheue di Banda Aceh yang hanya 15 kilometer. Cepat Ferry memakan waktu sekitar 45 menit, The Lambat Ferry jauh lebih murah, tetapi membutuhkan lebih atau kurang dari 2,5 jam.

Maskapai penerbangan nasional seperti Garuda Indonesia dan Lion Air memi-liki penerbangan reguler dari Jakarta ke Banda Aceh melalui Medan. Penerbangan internasional ke Banda Aceh tersedia dari Penang, Malaysia dengan Firefly dan Lion Air, dan dari Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia den-gan Air Asia.

Sabang can be reached by a 45 minute or 2.5 hours trip by ferry from Ulee Lheue port in Banda Aceh which is only 15 kilom-eters. The Fast Ferry takes around 45 min-utes, The Slow Ferry is much cheaper, but it takes more or less than 2.5 hours.

National airlines such as Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air have regular flights from Ja-karta to Banda Aceh via Medan. Interna-tional flights to Banda Aceh are available from Penang, Malaysia with Firefly and Lion Air, and from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with Air Asia.

Historically, Sabang derived from the word shabag meaning mountain erupts. which is proofed by the pres-ence of volcanoes under the sea and land, one of which Jaboi Volcano.
