Indonesia has some of the richest forest in theworld. The total area of forested land is approximately120 million hectares.

These forests have existed for million of yearsand they have munch to offer us. They are important!for their products, such as timber, rattan (= rotan), resin(=damar), etc. They are also important for keeping thesoil fertile. The leaves of the forest trees fall to theground and become humus is fertilizer for the soil. Theroots of the trees prevent the soil from being washed

Our government realizes this and has taken somesteps to prevent the destruction. Some regulations havebeen issued (= dikeluarkan) to protect the forests. Inaddition, reforestation projects are being carried out.These projects are as important as other bigdevelopment Rejects. It is our duty as good citizens tohelp the government carry out these programmessuccessfully.
