  • Hello! I am a 4th year architecture student at the University of Melbourne, who is looking for a junior position in a firm. A lover of tea, good reads, charcoal and the colour orange - despite my monochrome choice in attire. This portfolio is a selected collection of my architectural work from 2014 to 2015, during the completion of my Undergraduate degree - Bachelor of Environments and my ongoing Masters degree in Architecture; both at the University of Melbourne.These projects illustrate the process of learning and exploration, at different scales through the implication of different technical skills, from design documentation to assembling physical models.

    The work shown not only demonstrates my capability to complete solo projects but also the abilityto work well within group projects.

    The brief calls for an interplay between a permanent institution and an adaptable performing space through proposing a new performing arts school, in Docklands. This studio also emphasises on the sensorial experience in architecture - ultimately creating atmospherics.

    An Educational and Residential design scheme is proposed, for Docklands Performing Arts School, for Melbournes iconic orchestra - MSO. This complex puts forth a narrative of learning and living, of the man-made and of nature, of expectation and reality with its composition of the school grounds, the housing, the rehearsal and the garden; of a music boarding school. The Design of this complex pays tribute to its Heritage overlay - the Mission to the Seafarers (MTS) building with the notion of a central core. As observed in the MTS where the Norla Gallery is the key driver of circulation and function.

    The Stage, a space of adaptive performance and interaction, is the central magnet of school, in which the other units of the project gravitates towards it, forming a series of layers or visual obstructions into the core - hence achieving the concept of expectation and reality, through a visual interplay between the layering and the teasing - of what you see isnt always what youll get.

    The brief calls for a high-end office skyscraper in Melbournes CBD which must account for efficient stacking, structure and envelope systems.

    Formulated by a concrete tube in tube structural system with exposed structural elements, the building embodies active and passive environmental control functions such as solar panels on the North facade and shading on the North, East and West Facade.

    Materials used in the project includes concrete, brick, corten and glass.

    The brief addresses the need for a new Archive building for The University of Melbourne in Brunswick. Introducing the notion of greenery into the scene of Brunswick was a key objective in the planning.

    This was achieved through exhibiting an interplay with the overall building of activated geometries - in which spaces impact objects and objects impact space - engulfing the courtyard, similar to the cloister model. The courtyard acts as the central point of activities and node of circulation; and endorses the balance between the natural and the built environment. The interior experience is dictated by the expansion and contraction of open spaces through a series of voids and wall implements.

    Section BB

    Materials used in this project are recycled bamboo, glass textile technology and bluestone. The bamboo and the textile have a tessellated facade relationship which also manifests the interaction of solidity, translucency and transparency of view in and out the building. Bluestone was used to break down the monolithic appeal of the tessellated form and chosen due to its relation with context. The varying degrees of views also influence the levels of light in the building on the The pattern of the facade also pays tribute to the locality of Brunswick as textile is crucial to the identity of the suburb. The furniture within the building also prolongs the experience of the tessellation as it mirrors the triangulated formula.

    This brief outlines the design scheme of incorporating a gallery and cafe within a complex in Brunswick.The final design scheme has the purpose of attracting population in the Outre Gallery, in Brunswick, through a series of conceal and reveal.

    Materiality and form played a major component to the outcome of this design design. Glass textile and timber extrusions are implemented to have both the solid and translucent effect to visitors. Visitors are unable to directly look into the building due to the textile components, however occupants with the building can look outside. Giving it a s ense of privacy. Another major attracting component would be the Curtain Wall which protrudes out in Albert Street, one of the major axes of the site. This heightens users awareness to the building. Furthermore, the ramp is bound by glass and covered with the textile, once again giving it the sense of openness and concealed mystery. The elongated structural components add to the enticing factor of the building as it encourages user participation. The ramp is the only mode of public circulation.

    This brief requires you to in groups, design to the conditions of Refshaleon, Copenhagen Denmark in order to embed the importance of sustainability through an energy technique, into the conscience of users, through a visual impact of art form.

    To do so, we executed the alternative energy technique of Algae fuel - as it holds the ability to harvest oil whilst recycling wastewater and utilising solar energy, natural resource. This technique was incorporated into the sculpture, through the means of the artistic sculpture being a series of containers which facilitate the storage of algae, the harvest of biomass and the movement of recycling elements.These sculptures were inspired by the process of DLA.

    DLA enables expansion geometries to be born from a single point hence forms an aggregate. The growth of the overall aggregate, lies within a grid which acts as a constraint against its form. The growth of the extending, outward, lines is diffused-limited as they occur with one line growing at a time, rather than one cluster of line at a time. Which mirrors the gradual accumulating, branching process of nature.

    The process formulates from clustering of individual seeds, all at their own individual locations. These seeds traverse in randomised speed and direction, and when two or more seeds enter the same field, within a set proximity, they form an aggregate which continues to grow in the same manner.

    As our sculptures are ultimately formed by a series of containers which pass through algae, the connection between these containers and the way through transport and store algae is crucial.

    The connection system would consist of plastic joints and pipes, and transparent plastic sheets; all prefabricated then transported and assembled on site. These components are used in different variations, however, the same component types - sizes and dimensions - are still uniform, therefore can be mass produced, hence limits the possibility of error during fabrication.
