Scenario-I: Server with Single or Dual PSU – UPS x1 + RMCARD
1-1. Scenario Diagram
(1) Connect utility power to the UPS inlet.
(2) Connect UPS outlet (critical Load) to the PSU(s) of the server.

1-2. Configuration for different shutdown Requirements
1-2-1. To shut down server after utility grid has been lost for 10 minutes.
(1) Install PPBE Client on server. (Install PPBE Client for Virtual Machine if your server is a VMware ESXi)
(2) In ”Power >> Configuration >> Power Supply”, set “Redundant Policy” as “1” (which means server
has one power source).
(3) Assign the IP address of the UPS (e.g. the IP address of RMCard installed on the UPS) in “Device”
section.
(4) After configuration, click “Connect” to make the setting effective (when a blue “Connected” is
shown).
(5) In ”Event Action >> Settings >> Shutdown”, assign “Necessary shutdown time” to reserve enough
time for server to do graceful shutdown.
(6) Also assign the access information (login ID/PW) of host if your server is a VMware ESXi host.

(7) In ”Event Action >> Events >> UPS”, assign a shutdown delay time (e.g. 10 mins) in the column
“Shutdown/Initiated” in the event “Utility power failure”. PPBE Client would start the countdown of
10 mins when the input power of the UPS units is down.

1-2-2. To shut down server when remaining battery capacity is going to run out.
(1) - (6) Same as 1-2-1.
(7) In ”Event Action >> Events >> UPS”, assign a shutdown delay time (ex. 10 mins) in the column
“Shutdown/Initiated” in the event “Remaining runtime will be exhausted”. PPBE would reserve a
buffer time of 2 mins (default and not adjustable).
(8) Given “Necessary shutdown time” is 2 mins, it would trigger the PPBE power event when UPS
remaining runtime is 14 mins: 10 (shutdown delay time) + 2 (necessary shutdown time) + 2 (buffer
time) = 14 mins.
And 10 mins (delay time) after PPBE power event is triggered, server would start to shut down itself.
Same as 1-2-1 above, PPBE would start the shutdown procedure when the remaining runtime of the
UPS unit is going to drain.
(9) All done.

Scenario-II: Server with Single or Dual PSU – UPS x1 + ATS
2-1. Scenario Diagram
(1) Connect utility power to the UPS inlet and the UPS outlet to the input A of ATS.
(2) Connect utility power to the input B of ATS.
(3) The PSU(s) of the server will be connected to the outlet(s) of ATS.
(4) Set input A (from UPS) as the primary power source of ATS.

2-2. Configuration for different shutdown Requirements
2-2-1. To shut down server after utility grid has been lost for 10 minutes.
(1) Install PPBE Client on server. (Install PPBE Client for Virtual Machine if your server is a VMware ESXi)
(2) In ”Power >> Configuration >> Power Supply”, set “Redundant Policy” as “1” (which means server
has one power source).
(3) Assign the IP address of ATS and the UPS (e.g. the IP address of RMCard installed on the UPS) in
“Device” section. Leave the second UPS address blank.
(4) After configuration, click “Connect” to make the setting effective (when a blue “Connected” is
shown).
(5) In ”Event Action >> Settings >> Shutdown”, assign “Necessary shutdown time” to reserve enough
time for server to do graceful shutdown.
(6) Also assign the access information (login ID/PW) of ESXi host if your server is a VMware ESXi.

buffer time of 2 mins (default and not adjustable).
(8) Given “Necessary shutdown time” is 2 mins, it would trigger the PPBE power event when UPS
remaining runtime is 14 mins: 10 (shutdown delay time) + 2 (necessary shutdown time) + 2 (buffer
time) = 14 mins.
And 10 mins (delay time) after PPBE power event is triggered, server would start to shut down itself.
Same as 1-2-1 above, PPBE would start the shutdown procedure when the remaining runtime of the
UPS unit is going to drain.

4-2-1. To shut down server after utility grid has been lost for 10 minutes.
