More than 25 community services and organisations actively involved in arts, music, Aboriginal communities, heritage, business, health, ongoing learning and special interests are participating in this year’s program. Partnerships are key to the success of the Festival, and organisations have collaborated to provide venues, facilities, promotion and volunteers. Seniors Festival reflects the strength of community partnerships and Council is very proud to be a part of it.This year’s program aligns with the five ways to wellbeing framework, which helps improve physical and mental wellness by doing five simple things each day: connect, be active, be aware, keep learning, and help others. This program is full of opportunities to do all these things as well as connect with organisations to stay involved and active all year round. The framework reminds us; wellbeing is something you do, rather than something you are. I would like to acknowledge the support of the NSW Seniors Festival Grant program and our local sponsors, and in particular our Gold sponsors, Calvary Cessnock Retirement Community, East Cessnock Bowling Club, Cessnock Priceline Pharmacy, Northern Coalfields Community Care Association, Feros Care and myHomecare Central Coast Hunter. I am honoured to be the Ambassador for this year’s Cessnock City Seniors Festival. I have had a long association with the Festival and the many community-minded people and organisations that participate in the planning of the program through the Seniors Reference Group. The Festival is a great way to get involved with our local community. The program offers arts, culture, health and wellbeing, history and heritage, and special interest activities. If you want to stay involved throughout the year, you can join one of the many organisations and clubs in our community and become part of making the Festival happen. I encourage you all to try something different, meet some new people and come and get involved. I look forward to seeing you there!

The first of the Harry Potter films. On Harry’s 11th birthday, he learns he is a powerful wizard, with a place waiting for him at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Free BBQ and live show by JD’s World of Magic in the forecourt before the screening of the movie. BBQ generously provided by the Rotary Club of Cessnock. This a joint Seniors Festival and Youth Week event.
