This season, TAYLOR LEUNG brings you into the realm of creativity between his father and himself. Inspired by the bonding between his Father and himself through Art, LEUNGAGE – the Linkage between the Leungs, is a story about a creative landscape architect father and expressive fashion designer son in different artistic professions who shares the same faith in Art and Design. Firmly believing that his taste in art appreciation and the genes of creativity is inherited and derived from his creative father, Taylor Leung pays tribute to his father, KH Leung, for his years of artistic nurture. LEUNGAGE infuses elements of Landscape Architecture into Fashion Design, incorporating functionality into aesthetics. The silhouette of LEUNGAGE was delicately crafted through the experimentation of collages created from KH Leung’s Landscape Architecture designs. By integrat-ing the nature of geometric balance from the construction of blueprints into fashion, the structured silhouette of the collection is created. The design concept focuses not only on the aesthetical beauty of Decorative Arts, but also lies in its functionality. This collection desires to mediate the artistic temperament of the Leung family through Fashion Design. Reflected through the search of Taylor Leung’s design identity, this collection takes elements from KH Leung’s art and design works, and aims to reinterpret them in the form of Fashion.

Fall Winter 2015 Contemporary Menswear collection, LEUNGAGE, is inspired by the bonding between Father and Son through Art. Firmly believing that the taste in art appreciation and the genes of creativity is derived from a creative father. Naming the debut collection after the family name, it pays tribute to the father for the years of artistic nurture.

It is common characteristic of a family structure in the society that men do not often communicate through words. LEUNGAGE, is a story about a creative father and expressive son in different artistic professions who has the same faith in Art and Design.

ABSTRACT

The first role model of a young boy is always his father. We always see talented men with children who have also inherited similar talented traits. Between the 17th and 19th century, it is tradition where fathers pass on their skills and techniques to their son, and the son would follow in his father’s footsteps and take up the family business (Fitzgerald, 1946). In this sense, the physical and genetical influence of heredity has creat-ed a strong bonding between father and son.

In the search of design identity, this collection takes elements from the designer’s father’s art and design works, and aims to reinterpret them in the form of fashion.

The Father, K.H. Leung was a landscape architect who played a major role in the urban improvement and redevelopment of Hong Kong through many eminent urban planning projects since the 1980s.

The design concept focuses not only on the aesthetical beauty of Decorative Arts, but also its functionality. The changes seen through the changes of Landscape Archi-tecture throughout the postmodern era emphasizes on the improvement of the human lifestyle rather than on decorative features. This collection desires to mediate the artistic temperament of the Leung family.

To enter the Designer’s Luxury Brand level of contemporary menswear designs.

As it is a new label, it is necessary for the brand to pitch into the industry with a focus on its strengths through its use of eccentric craft, geometric silhouette and luxury quality material. These unique selling points that I possess enables it to compete with the three competitor-brands mentioned.

The use of the online shopping platform allows the label to have a wider global audience. Utilizing the label’s connections in Asia, it is likely for me to step onto the global stage.

Dover Street MarketA conceptual store located in the heart of London, Dover Street Market’s style fits in with Taylor-Leung’s fashion forward, luxurious collection where they sell other designer brands. Furthermore, DSM has close connections with the oriental market, it is an ideal stockist for TaylorLeung.

LN-CCAn online store selling both luxury designer brands and emerging designer labels, LNCC is also an ideal stockist for TaylorLeung. Not only is the usual customers of LNCC fashion forward, the online platform allows TaylorLeung to attract attention from a wider global audience.

Joyce (Hong Kong)Joyce (Hong Kong) is one of the largest department store chains in China. Being able to sell Taylor-Leung in Joyce implicates brand recognition, and could further attract attention from the oriental market.
