Grades3rd Grade is the transition year to letter

grades (A, B, etc.). Grades are calculated by dividing the number of points earned by the total points possible. Typically, things like

projects and tests are worth more points and will affect final grades more than small, in

class assignments.

Your child’s most recent grades are always available to you by logging into

Skyward.

What Will We Learn this Year?● In K-2, students learn to read. This year, we switch to using reading to

learn. We will learn tools to help us understand fiction and nonfiction reading. We will be able to identify main ideas and details within a text.

● Students will learn to write in complete paragraphs with topic sentences, supporting details, transition words and conclusions.

● In math, we will learn to add and subtract large numbers, learn the concepts of multiplication and division and work with numbers to one million. We will also learn how to read and use graphs, and work with geometric figures, area and perimeter.

● We will learn about animal survival, economics, the history of our community, simple machines, light and sound.

Assessments3rd Grade is also the first year for our big state assessments. Tests we will take this

year (unless affected by Covid) will be:● NWEA (fall, winter and spring)● IREAD (spring assessment of reading
