CAUSES

VERY RARE WITHIN THE UNITED STATES

•Caused by a bacteria called Clostridium perfringens

•This bacteria is found almost everywhere•The bacteria gets into the body through an open wound and begins to grow

•Causes harmful substances and gas that damage organs and blood vessel

SYMPTOMS

Air under the skin

Progressive swelling

SYMPTOMS

•Blisters filled with brown-red fluid•Drainage from the tissues•Increased heart rare•High fever•Severe pain around skin injury•Pale skin•Sweating•Vesicle formation•Yellowing of the skin

HOW THE ORGANISM ATTACKS AND SPREADS

The bacteria usually enters through an open wound or a recent surgical spot and then attacks the wound spot or area causing the previously listed symptoms. This occurs very rapidly. IT can be deathly.

•Large•Anerobic•Gram positive•Spore-forming•Found everywhere but most commonly found in soil

CURES

There are multiple therapies used in order to cure this bacterial infection:•Antibiotic Therapy•Intensive Care (used for patients with severe cases causing liver failure)

•Adjuvant Therapy •Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy*Amputation is also used in severe cases*

PREVENTION

The best way to prevent this bacteria is to wash wounds thoroughly y everyday keeping them clean.
