1.4 Restriction on Registration

Each student is allowed to take a maximum of 30 ILP units during the online registration. The registration system will not allow students to enrol more than 30 ILP units in this round of registration. This arrangement is implemented to prevent students from over-enrolment so that the places can be allocated evenly to students.

To make the best use of the limited resources, SSC reserves the right to lower the enrolment priority of students who have already met the 75 ILP unit requirements.

Important Points to Note1. Attendance Requirement 1.1 Class Attendance

Students are expected to be punctual and attend the full ILP course. Students are either allowed to sign in within 15 minutes from the scheduled start time, or sign out 15 minutes before the scheduled end time of each ILP session. Exceeding the limit, the student’s attendance for that session will not be counted.

*To avoid any disturbance during the University Assembly and music performance, signing out is only allowed at the scheduled end time of each ILP session.

1.2 Completion Rate

In general, students are required to achieve 80% attendance in an ILP course in order to be qualified for its ILP unit(s).

1.3 Excused Absence

Students may apply for sick leave or leave with a valid reason from the responsible SSC staff by presenting the necessary documentations, which must be submitted before the absence or within 3 working days after the absence.

1.4 Unexcused Absence

Absence without a valid reason is not allowed. Absentees will be recorded and will have to bear the consequence of registering ILP activities only in the second round of online add-drop in the next term if they are absent from ILP activities 3 times or more.

1.5 Cost incurred after completion of academic requirementsAs approved by Senate Meeting of 6 October 2001, ILP taken after completion of academic requirements will normally be charged at costs incurred for your notice, i.e. to pay 1% of the tuition fee for a full-time student for every hour of ILP course(s) taken.

2. Medium of InstructionILP activities are conducted in Cantonese, unless otherwise specified. Some activities are conducted in English.

2. Additional ILP activities after Online RegistrationVarious departments, student societies and Student Services Centre may offer additional ILP activities to students each month. Students should pay attention to corresponding emails, social media and posters to look for updates.

Description : It’s a story about a diplomat-turned farmer Ms. Zhang who’s leading a one-woman crusade to implement her philosophy of sustainable farming. Will her initiative become sustainable and provide a possible solution for other heavily pesticide-and-fertilizer-polluted farmlands in China? Following her story, the film explores the endangered Chinese food system, and observes the dilemma in land use and food consumption. It also reflects on the low social status and low economic income of Chinese farmers. Will the sustainable farming be the hope of change for them too?

How Important is the Play of Light and Darkness in Sculpture?

Objectives : At the end of the talk, students are able to: 1. experience sculpture; 2. describe the process of creating sculpture; and 3. enjoy arts and sculpture creation.

Description : One of the main characteristics of sculpture, beside the material and the artistic expression, is the third dimension or the depth. The one thing that is essential for a sculptural object to possess is the balance of the shades created by the same object. During the process of creation, these shades can be set mathematically (calculated), accidentally and/or spontaneously. In a way to find the perfect balance, the author can intervene by deepening the perforations, the cuts and the surfaces. By using direct light sources, the author can create a different chiaroscuro effect that is already written into the composition of these shapes. By changing the position of the light source vis-a-vis the sculpture, you can also change the interface of the same. An artwork will be complete only if there is a perfect balance between the material, the idea, the texture and the shades created by the surfaces.

The story begins with Katherine’s arrival at the college and her serious cultural conflict with the students. Although students at Wellesley College are all well-educated, their desire is nothing more than to get married with eligible young men. Katherine attempts to inspire students to learn more about the beauty of life and romance. Through the cultural exchange between the teacher and students, a special relationship is found between Katherine and her students. And her students are encouraged to pursuit and achieve their dreams and goals. This movie shows an inspirational story of pursuing our dreams and goals.
