To collect data, identify problems and issues existing in the village and eventually enable the Panchayat to prepare their village “Panchayat Development Plan”. d. To identify projects, proposals, works in various sectors of development as part of the GPDP. I. Introduction of the village: The Village Panchayat of Cola is situated in the Canacona Taluka of South Goa District. It has a population of 6210, with 3169 males and 3041 female population. The Panchayat consists of 9 wards and has 9 elected representatives of which 05 are male members and 04 are female members. There is only 1 household of SC and 815 household of STs. The Panchayat has 11 Govt. primary schools, with an enrollment of 216 students. There are 13 AWC with 548 children. It has one river, 15 streams, no waterfall. There is one Sub health centre and one Rural Medical Dispensary . The distance between the SHC and the Panchayat is 500 mts, the distance between RMD and Panchayat is 5.5 Kms the main Community Health Centre Canacona and the Panchayat is 15 Kms. I. Introduction of the village:

The Village Panchayat of Cola is situated in the Canacona Taluka of South Goa District.

It has a population of 6210, with 3169 males and 3041 female population. The Panchayat

consists of 9 wards and has 9 elected representatives of which 05 are male members and 04

are female members. There is only 1 household of SC and 815 household of STs.

The Panchayat has 11 Govt. primary schools, with an enrollment of 216

students. There are 13 AWC with 548 children. It has one river, 15

streams, no waterfall. There is one Sub health centre and one Rural

Medical Dispensary . The distance between the SHC and the Panchayat

is 500 mts, the distance between RMD and Panchayat is 5.5 Kms the

main Community Health Centre Canacona and the Panchayat is 15

Kms. The major source of income for the Panchayat is the house tax,

fees, and grant –in- aid and other grants.

III. Observations / information collected during the field visits, PRA, FGDs:

1. Name of the sector: Education (Govt. Primary School)

Key observations:

1) The primary schools are in very bad condition.

2) No proper drinking water facilities and filter.

3) No proper playgrounds and sports materials

4) No proper benches ,cupboards , blackboard and tables.

5) No staff room and library room.

6) Very few numbers of students in primary schools.

7) No Bus facility.

Suggestions:

1. Govt.primary school code 30020501302 situated at Gaval ward no. 8, code

30020501809 situated at Shiroti ward No.6, code 30020502503 situated at Kuddi ward

No. 9, code n. 30020501401 situated at Nuvem ward No. 7and code 30020502502 situated

at Popoidando ward No. 4, require major repairs like roofing, flooring , painting, windows

, electric fittings Over head tank etc.

2. Water filters should be provided for all 11 School.

3.Require proper playgrounds and sports materials .

4. Provide benches ,cupboards , blackboard and tables .

5. Require staff room and library room for all School.

6. Awareness to the PTA members to increase the number of students .

7. Provide Bus facility for all 11 School.

2. Name of the sector: Health RMD situated at Molorem ward no 7

Key observations:

1. There is no RMD building.

2 No regular doctor.

3 No proper medicine.

4 No sitting arrangement, no Telephone service, no refrigerator to keep medicine.

5 No Ambulance

6 Suggestions:

1. Required full fledge RMD building .

2. Regular Doctor should be available.

3. Medicine should be provided regularly.

4. Required sitting arrangement, Telephone service, refrigerator to keep medicine.

Name of the sector: Sub Health Centre situated at Matvem ward no 6

Key observations:

1. No regular doctor.

2. No proper medicine, no Telephone service ,ambulance ,no refrigerator to keep

medicine and no proper shelf’s to keep medicines.

Suggestion

1. Regular doctor should be made available.

2. Require proper medicines, telephone service, ambulance, refrigerator to keep

medicine and shelf’s to keep medicines etc.

3. Name of the sector: Women, Child, drinking water (Anganwadi Centre)

Key observations:

1) All thirteen AWCs are housed in rental premises.

2) No drinking Facility, toilets, and store room, separate kitchen

3) No Nasta charts, weight machine, Growth chart, toys, etc.

4) Not proper nutrition supply time to time.

Suggestions:

1. Require own Building for all 13 AWCs.

1.Financial problems faced before starting activity for SHG.

3. No any market available for selling vegetables fruits flowers etc.

4. Need awareness all facilities/schemes from Govt.

Suggestions:

1. Require financial support for stating activities.

2. To need suitable/specific place, seeds, organic fertilizer for cultivation.

3. Require market for selling cultivated products.

4. Awareness /Training of various handicrafts such as candle making, tailoring, bag

making, soft toys etc.

5. Issues related to the youth: (Group Discussion with Youth)

Observation:-

1.No proper Play ground and sports material.

2. No Club House and Gymnasium.

3. Existing play ground does not have proper amenities.

4. Ancestral skills are neglected by the youth .

5. Neglence seen in the youths of personal hygiene and nutrition’s.

6. Youths are found about unaware of job opportunities.

7. No any playground in kudai ward No.3

8. No Foot ball ground at Nuvem ward No. 8

Suggestions:

1. Need for a playground and sports material.

2. Need Club house and Gymnasium.

3. Existing play ground need proper infrastructure amenities such as changing room,

toilet, poles etc.

4. Skill oriented training and Counseling for self employment.

5. Health education regarding nutrition’s and personal Hygiene.

6. Education camps regarding job opportunities and Carrier guidance.

Key observations:

1.No proper water facility for cultivation.

3. No fencing scheme available for field.

4. Irrigation facilities not available.

5.In Few field soil testing is not done.

6. No farm organization and market facility.

7.Training should not be provide for farmer.

8. No Desilitng of well /Nallahs and ponds etc.

10. Some farmers are unaware of Krishi card.

Observations:

1. No proper Regular meeting.

2. No proper training regarding importance of the committees .

Suggestion:

1 The committees needs to be activated through regular meetings.

2 Require training for committee members.

Development of SC/STs: (Group Discussion with SC/ST population)

The Panchayat which has a sizeable SC or ST population should compulsorily conduct a

focus group discussions with the representatives of this population.

Problems:

Observations:

1. Most of the peoples are ST but not aware about all the schemes under Tribal Dept.

2. No any facilities for SC families.

3. Need awareness FRC (Cumeri Cultivation.)

4. So many students are not getting scholarship.

5. Not provide proper ST fund for development.

Suggestions:

1. Awareness about all the schemes under Tribal Welfare.

2. Provide all facilities to Sc families.

3. Require Special survey and gram sabha should be arrange for faster process for

cumari cultivation land.

4. Require special camp/awareness regarding scholarship.

5. To provide ST fund for development.
