In 1988 – 89, Minimum Competency Vocational Course (MCVC) was introduced. The new Three Year Degree course was introduced by the University of Mumbai in 1977. The Commerce faculty was introduced in the College in 1979 – 80 and the first batch of T. Y. B. Com. students appeared in 1983. The College has completed sixty three years of glorious service in the field of academics, sports, performing arts and other extracurricular activities. The College, affiliated to the University of Mumbai has gathered the reputation and social recognition over the years as an institution second to none, a fact that is more than adequately proven by commendable performance of our students at the Higher Secondary Board and University examinations; I.I.T., Engineering, Medical and Management joint entrance examinations. About fifty percent of students in the merit list of H.S.C. examination are from our College. The College has produced a number of luminaries in the field of academics, sports and extracurricular activities. The College has set its goals and objectives in tune with theaspirations of our students’ vis-à-vis the needs and expectations of thesociety. We strive to impart quality education to our students andencourage them to participate in various co and extra curricular activitiesto bring out the best of their talents so as to enrich their multidimensionalpersonality development in the modern world of 21st century.

At present the College admits students for Post Graduate Coursesfor M.Sc. by Paper & by Research and Ph.D. Degree in subjectsChemistry, Botany and Zoology.

Keeping abreast with the advances in the world around and theneed of the hour, the College is offering the following paper/courseson a No Grant Basis:

GENERAL INFORMATION

OFFICE HOURSThe College Office shall ordinarily be open on all working days

between 10.00 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. All cash transactions will be attendedto between 10.30 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. The office will remain closed onthe second and fourth Saturday of every month.

HOLIDAYSThe College shall remain closed—

(a) on Sundays and public holidays as declared by the Government;(b) on holidays prescribed by the University both for the long

vacations and for the Christmas break,(c) on such other days as the Principal may declare from time to

time. (These will be announced on the Notice Board).

PAYMENT OF FEES1. Students should pay the prescribed fees to the Accounts Section or

Special Counters opened for the purpose at the time of admissionto the F. Y. J. C. (Arts / Science/ Commerce) and F. Y. B. A. / B. Sc. /B. Com. / B. M. S. / B. Sc. (I. T.) classes and postgraduate courses.

2. Schedule of fees (Degree and Junior College) will be displayed onthe College Notice Board.

3. Fees will be accepted in Cash / Cheque for both the Junior, Degreeand postgraduate courses.

4. Fees should be paid at the authorised counter only.5. Guardians should ensure that they obtain a stamped receipt

immediately after any payment is made.6. Care should be taken to ensure that payments are not made to

unauthorised persons. The College will not be responsible for anylapse in this matter.

7. Reserve Category Students must fill the Freeship / Scholarshipforms as per the schedule displayed on the Notice Board.

8. Eligible Reserve Category students will be exempted from payingfull regular fees. The proposal will be sent to the Social WelfareDepartment, Government of Maharashtra for its sanction. Theywill be required to pay the Fees not sanctioned by the Social WelfareDepartment in the Second Term.

REFUND OF FEESJUNIOR COLLEGE

a. If a Student informs the institution before the commencement ofthe academic year that he/she wants to withdraw and he/shecannot continue his/her education in the same institution for anyreason, the institution concerned should refund to him/her in fullthe tuition fee, term fee, laboratory fee (if any) and library andlaboratory deposits, if any actually recovered. The admission feemay, however, be retained by the Institution.

EXPLANATION : So far as the F.Y.J.C. classes are concerned theacademic year should be deemed to have commenced from theeighth day (i.e. excluding Sundays and Public Holidays) from andincluding the days of declaration of the S.S.C. Examination Result.If the said day of declaration of results is a working day, OR fromand including the working day immediately following the day ofdeclaration of the S.S.C. Examination result if the said /date ofdeclaration of results is a Sunday or a Public Holiday.

b. If a student desires to withdraw and applies for refund of fees afterthe commencement of the academic year (vide explanation under(a) above) the institution concerned should retain the admissionfee, term fee and laboratory fee (if any) in full. The library andlaboratory deposits should however be refunded. So far as the tuitionfee is concerned the institution should retain the tuition fee only forthe month(s) beginning from the month in which the academicyear had commenced and ending with the month in which thestudent had applied for withdrawal of admission or refund of fees.The tuition fees for the remaining months of the term should berefunded (For example, if a student applies for refund of fees in themonth of July, after the academic year has commenced in that monthitself, the Institution should retain the proportionate amount oftuition fees for one month only, namely the month of July. On theother hand, if a student applies for refund of fees in the month ofAugust, after the academic year has commenced in the month ofJuly, the institution should retain the proportionate amount oftuition fee for two months only, namely the month of July & August.If a student applies for refund of fees in the month of August afterthe academic year has commenced in the month of June, theinstitution should retain the proportionate amount of tuition feefor three months only, namely the months of June, July, August.)

DEGREE COLLEGERULES FOR REFUND OF FEES:

The Rules (Ordinance 2859) relating to refund of fees aftercancellation of admission as per the University of Mumbai CircularNo. UG/412 of 2008 dated 11.09.2008 is given below:

The candidates who have taken admission in under graduatecourses in aided and unaided courses conducted by affiliated Collegesmay request for refund of fees after applying in writing for cancellationof their admission to the course. The refund of fees as applicable shallbe made on or before 30th day after the date of cancellation andthereafter.

The percentage of fee for the course shall be refunded to thecandidate after deducting charges as follows:

Note : The total amount considered for the refund offees from the commencement of academic termof the courses includes the following:

i) All the fee items chargeable for one year are as per relevantUniversity circulars for different Faculties.

ii) The fee charged towards group insurance and all feecomponents to be paid as University share (including Vice-Chancellor fund, University fee for Sports and Culturalactivities, E-charge, E-suvidha, Disaster ManagementFund, Examination fee and Enrollment fee) are non-refundable if the payment is made by the College to theUniversity prior to the date of cancellation.

iii) Fees collected for Identity card and Library card,Admission Form and Prospectus, Enrollment and anyother course specific fee are not refundable after thecommencement of the academic term.

iv) All refundable deposits (Laboratory, Caution Money andLibrary etc.) shall be fully returned at the time ofcancellation.

Important instructions for Reserve Category student :Eligible Reserve Category students who are admitted to the College onpayment of concessional fees prescribed by the University of Mumbai areinformed that, on cancellation of admission they will be required to payadditional amount depending on the period and percentage of deductioncharges of the total fees prescribed for the course.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FORRAILWAY CONCESSION

i) Students will be issued railway concession forms for Season ticketsfrom the station nearest to their residence and Matunga Road(W. R) Station. Residential address given on the admission formwill be taken as valid for this concession. It cannot be changedduring the course of the year.

ii) Long journey Railway concession will be issued to students tovisit their homes.

LIBRARYThe College Library is in the ground floor hall of new building.

The Library has a huge collection of books & journals on a variety ofsubjects. Students can avail of the Internet facility on payment ofnominal charges.

Library Rules :

1. While entering the library, students should carry their Identity aswell as Library cards.

2. Students will ensure that they do not disturb other students in thelibrary.

3. Books are issued for home reading for a period of one week onlyagainst a demand slip (duly filled and signed) on days notified forthis purpose. Reference Books and prescribed text books kept inthe reading hall, Dictionaries, Encyclopaedias, Atlases and otherbooks classified as reference books must be used in the libraryonly during working hours.

4. Students will be issued only one book at a time for home reading.While returning books students will ensure that the necessary entryof return is made in his / her presence.

5. A student failing to return book issued for home reading on orbefore the due date will be liable to pay a fine of Rs. 5/- per day tillsuch time as the book is returned.

6. Books issued against the Identity Card are for use in the ReadingHall only and must be returned while leaving the library.Disciplinary action will be taken against students violating thisrule.

7. Use of Mobile Telephones is strictly prohibited in the Library.Library facilities of the defaulting student will be suspended.

CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVIES :The College encourages students to participate in co-curricular andextra-curricular activities. These Associations organize various programs, exhibitions andcompetitions at the Collegiate and Inter-collegiate level such as Lecturesby eminent personalities, Elocution, Debate, Quiz, Musical programs,stage one act plays etc.

THE COLLEGE GYMKHANAThe College has a well-equipped Gymkhana, which provides the

necessary space and equipment for both indoor and outdoor sports,with the ground being modified for specific sports. Being a reputedinstitution, coaches of repute are associated with our College. Anin-house Shooting Range of international measurement has beeninstalled in the College. The College Gymkhana provides above averagefacilities for most of the games. For indoor games we have a hall of61.50’ x 25.25’ for table tennis, a hall of 36’ x 10’ for carrom and a hallof 24’ x 13’ for chess. The open ground is used for practice of kho-kho,kabaddi, volleyball, basketball, football, hockey and soft ball. We have4 box nets for practice of Cricket. Our College staff also provides itsexpertise to the University sports body. The activities of the Gymkhanaare governed by the Principal with the assistance of the GymkhanaChairman, Teaching, Non-Teaching Staff and student representatives.

HOSTELThe College has a Hostel for 70 male students within the College

Campus. Hostel fees including services and other charges are to bepaid in advance.

The students will maintain peace and decorum of the Hostel. Anystudent involved in the ragging in Hostel will draw severe punishment.Round the clock Security is provided in the Hostel building. Thenecessary housekeeping services are provided to maintain the entirehostel clean. The College authority will not be responsible for the lossof any personal valuables. The students will not be allowed to stayaway from the hostel beyond 10.00 p.m. For detailed Rules andRegulations refer to the Hostel Notice Board.

MEDICAL FACILITYThe college has arranged a tie-up with the ‘Sushrusha’ Hospital,

Ranade Road, Dadar (West), Mumbai - 400 028 to provide immediatemedical attention to the bonafide students and staff members of thecollege in case of an accident, mishap or any kind of emergency thatmay take place on the college campus. When such an incident isreported to the college authority, it will admit the student, staff memberto the Hospital for immediate medical attention, without undergoingthe normal procedure of cash deposit in the Hospital. The student /staff member will be required to settle/pay the Bills for the medicalattention provided by the Hospital.

SUMAN : The Career Guidance and Counselling CentreThe following services are available to the students of Junior andDegree college free of cost :Wednesday and Thursday : 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

1. Guidance for Personality development : Effective study skills,Enhancing physical fitness, Time management, Enhancing self-confidence.

2. Counselling for personal problems : Academic difficulties, Stress,Tension, Anxiety, Worry, Concentration and Memory problems,Family and Social relation.

Workshops and talks on various aspects of personality developmentare regularly organised.

RULES OF DISCIPLINEThe smooth functioning of the College depends upon observance ofdiscipline by the students. The College can help the students betterwhen Rules of Discipline are observed properly. Violation of theserules deprives the students of the advantages of different facilitiesprovided by the College. Following are some of the important rules ofdiscipline. Parents/Guardians are requested to direct their wards toobserve the following Rules of Discipline:

1. Students must attend lectures, practicals, tutorials, etc. as per theTime Table. They must not abstain themselves from classes,practicals, tutorials, examinations etc. without written permissionof the Principal. Students whose attendance and/or progress invarious tests and examinations is not satisfactory and who do notperform the required number of tutorials and/or practical,compulsory project work in subject are likely to lose their term.Prolonged absence even on grounds of ill health may also lead toloss of terms. Defaulters will not be sent up for UniversityExaminations.

2. Defaulters list is displayed on the college notice board.

3. Employed students will not be given any concession in matters ofattendance or rules regarding appearance at College examinations.Suitable disciplinary action will be taken against such students.Employed students must give details of their employment on theadmission form. They are expected to take admission afterconsulting the Principal in this regard.

4. The Identity Card is meant for identifying bonafide students andis used for permitting the student to enter college campus and toparticipate in various activities and programs of the College. Everystudent must wear the Identity Card as long as he/she is in theCollege campus and should be displayed prominently. It mustbe produced by the student whenever demanded by a member ofthe teaching or non-teaching staff of the College. He/She musttake proper care of it to avoid its misuse by other students andoutsiders. In case the Identity Card is lost, the matter should beimmediately reported to the Principal and a complaint should belodged to the Police and an application with the photocopy of NCshould be submitted for a duplicate Identity Card, which will beissued on payment of charges. The use of ID card belonging to

another student and the lending of ID card to others is illegal andwill attract suspension from College.

5. The conduct of the students in the classes and in the premises ofthe College shall be such as will cause no disturbance to teachers,fellow students or other classes.

6. Dress: Students should dress in a decent manner befitting theacademic atmosphere necessary on College Campus. Sleevelessor short tops/dresses, transparent/revealing clothes shall beconsidered inappropriate. Dresses and trousers are expected tobe at least below knee-length.

7. No Society or Association shall be formed in the College and noperson shall be invited on the College campus without the specificpermission of the Principal. The Principal has a right to refusesuch permission.

8. No student is allowed to display any Notice/Circular/Poster/Banner in the College premises without the prior permission of thePrincipal. Strict action will be taken against the defaulters.

9. No student will be allowed to conduct any political activity in theCollege premises.

10. Outsiders are not permitted in the College premises without theprior permission of the Principal. College students are not allowedto bring their relatives/friends to the College premises without theprior permission of the Principal. Strict action will be taken againstthe concerned outsider as well as the College student who isinstrumental in bringing outsiders to the College premises.

11. All meetings, cultural programs, debates, elocutions, etc. organizedon the College premises must be held in presence of teaching staffmembers and with the prior permission of the Principal. Thesubjects of debates/elocutions must have the prior approval of thePrincipal.

12. Students must take proper care of the College property. Strict actionwill be taken against the student/s damaging College propertyand will be required to compensate the damage.

13. Students involved in malpractices at the College / Board /University Examinations will not be admitted to the College.

14. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the College premises.The possession and/or consumption of drugs, cigarettes oralcohol on campus will result in Dismissal or Suspension, atthe discretion of the Principal; Physical violence will alsoattract the same immediate penalty.

15. If, for any reason, the continuance of a student in the College isfound detrimental to the best interest of the College, the Principalmay ask the student to leave the College without assigning anyreasons and the decision will be final and binding on the student.

16. Playing music on Transistors, Tape-recorders, Car-stereos,Mobile Telephones or any other similar gadgets with or withoutearphones is strictly prohibited in the College premises.Defaulters will be punished and their instrument confiscated.

17. Mobile phones: These should be switched off at the Gate beforeentering the College. However, mobile phone may be used,if absolutely necessary and in a discreet manner, in the followingfixed places only: the College Canteen, Ladies Common Room,Hostel and Car Parking area upto the Ruby Mill entrance gate .

18. Students must not loiter on the College premises while the classesare at work. Boys found loitering near the Girls’ Common Roomare liable for punishment.

19. Students must not attend classes other than their own without thepermission of the authority concerned.

20. Students shall do nothing inside or outside the College that willinterfere with the discipline of the College or tarnish the image ofthe College.

21. Students are not allowed to communicate any information aboutCollege matters to the Media.

22. Food and beverages can be consumed in the Canteen, the CommonRoom and Saawli. Students are requested not to eat in theclassrooms / laboratories.

23. Use of unfair means at exams: Any student detected using unfairmeans during tests or exams will face an Unfair Means Committeeconstituted by the College and will be punished as per the rules ofUniversity of Mumbai.

24. Study Tours can be conducted only with prior written permissionfrom the Principal. Class picnics or outings are not permitted bythe College. Parents should note that the College authorities donot assume any responsibility for picnics or outings organized bystudents on their own or by teachers in their personal capacity.

25. Students are expected to read the notice-boards regularly, so as toascertain their performance with regard to attendancerequirements, academic performance, examinations, results andany other matter related to them.

26. Matters not covered above will be decided at the discretion of thePrincipal.

Acts of misbehavior, misconduct, indiscipline or violation of the Rulesof Discipline mentioned above are liable for one or morepunishments as stated below :A. Warning to the student.B. Warning to the student as well as a letter to the parents.C. Imposition of a fine.D. Denial of gymkhana, library, laboratory, N.C.C., N. S. S., student aid or

1. What constitutes Ragging - Ragging constitutes one or more ofany of the following acts:

a. any conduct by any student or students whether by wordsspoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing,treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any otherstudent;

b. indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities by any studentor students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance,hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear orapprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student;

c. asking any student to do any act which such student will not inthe ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing orgenerating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so asto adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher orany other student;

d. any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbsthe regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher;

e. exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student forcompleting the academic tasks assigned to an individual ora group of students,

f. any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burdenput on a fresher or any other student by students;

g. any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexualabuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene andlewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other dangerto health or person;

h. any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insultswhich would also include deriving perverted pleasure,

vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passivelyparticipating in the discomfiture to fresher or any otherstudent;

i. any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence ofa fresher or any other student

2. Action to be taken by the Head of the institution.- On receipt ofthe recommendation of the Anti-Ragging Squad or on receipt ofany information concerning any reported incident of ragging,the Head of institution shall immediately determine if a caseunder the penal laws is made out and if so, either on his own orthrough a member of the Anti-Ragging Committee authorisedby him in this behalf, proceed to file a First Information Report(FIR), within twenty four hours of receipt of such information orrecommendation, with the police and local authorities, underthe appropriate penal provisions relating to one or more of thefollowing, namely;i. Abetment to ragging;ii. Criminal conspiracy to rag;iii. Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging;iv. Public nuisance created during ragging;v. Violation of decency and morals through ragging;vi. Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt;vii. Wrongful restraint;viii. Wrongful confinement;ix. Use of criminal force;x. Assault as well as sexual offences or unnatural

offences;xi. Extortion;xii. Criminal trespass;xiii. Offences against property;xiv. Criminal intimidation;xv. Attempts to commit any or all of the above

mentioned offences against the victim(s);xvi. Threat to commit any or all of the above mentioned

offences against the victim(s);

xvii. Physical or psychological humiliation;xviii.All other offences following from the definition of

“Ragging”.

3. Administrative action in the event of ragging.-

3.1 The institution shall punish a student found guilty of raggingafter following the procedure and in the manner prescribedhereinunder:

a) The Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution shall take anappropriate decision, in regard to punishment or otherwise,depending on the facts of each incident of ragging and natureand gravity of the incident of ragging established in therecommendations of the Anti-Ragging Squad.

b) The Anti-Ragging Committee may, depending on the natureand gravity of the guilt established by the Anti-Ragging Squad,award, to those found guilty, one or more of the followingpunishments, namely;i. Suspension from attending classes and academic

privileges,ii. Withholding / withdrawing scholarship / fellowship

and other benefits,iii. Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or

other evaluation process.iv. Withholding results,v. Debarring from representing the institution in any

regional, national or international meet, tournament,youth festival etc.

vi. Suspension / expulsion from the hostel,vii. Cancellation of admission,viii. Rustication from the institution for period ranging from

one to four semesters.ix. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring

from admission to any other institution for a specifiedperiod.

SCHEME OF MERIT-CUM-MEANS BASED GOVERNMENTOF INDIA POST-MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDENTSBELONGING TO THE MINORITY COMMUNITIES.

(DEGREE AND JUNIOR COLLEGE)

The objective of the scheme is to award scholarships to meritoriousstudents belonging to economically weaker sections of MinorityCommunities so as to provide them better opportunities for highereducation. Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain andZoroastrians (Parsis) have been notified as Minority Communitiesunder Section 2I of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.CONDITIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS:1. Scholarship will be awarded to the students who have secured

not less than 50% marks or equivalent grade in the previous finalexamination and the gross annual income of whose parents’/guardians’, from all sources does not exceed Rs. 2 lakhs.

2. There are a fixed number of scholarships for minorities and thenumber is small and limited. Students from Below Poverty Linefamilies, having the lowest income shall be given preference in theascending order. The renewal applications would be fullyexhausted before the new applications are considered.

3. Scholarship will be provided for the entire course. Scholarshipwill not be awarded for more than the normal period of time takento obtain Certificate / Degree / M.Phil. Degree / Doctorate Degree.However, maintenance allowance will be given for a period notexceeding ten months only in an academic year.

4. Scholarships will not be given to more than two students in afamily.

5. The award will be discontinued if a student fails to secure 50%marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination andis found to be irregular in attendance.

6. The scholarship once awarded, may be renewed during the nextacademic year of the course on the production of certificate thatthe student has secured 50% marks in the examination.

7. If a student violates any other terms and conditions of thescholarship, the scholarship will be suspended or cancelled. TheState Government/Union Territory Administration can alsodirectly cancel the award if duly satisfied of the reasons of violationof these regulations governing the scheme.

8. If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by falsestatement/certificates, his/her scholarship will be cancelledforthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid shall berecovered.

9. The student obtaining benefits under this scholarship scheme shallnot be allowed to avail of benefits under any other scholarshipscheme for the same purpose.

10. The rules and regulations can be changed at any time by theGovernment of India.

CARRY FORWARD OF THE MARKS IN CASE IF THE LEARNERGETS ‘F’GRADE IN ONE OR MORE SUBJECTS:1) A learner who PASSES in the Internal Examination but FAILS in

the Semester End Examination of the course shall reappear for theadditional Semester End Examination of that course.

However his/her marks of the Internal Examinations shall becarried over and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained byhim/her on passing.

2) A learner who PASSES in the Semester End Examination but FAILSin the Internal Assessment of the course shall reappear for theInternal Examination- it will consist of one project of 40 markswhich will be divided into 20 marks for the documentation of theproject, 10 marks for the presentation and 10 marks for the vivaand the interaction.

ORfor subjects with Practical/fieldwork, the examinations will consistof practical examination of 40 marks which will be divided into 20marks for the laboratory work, 10 marks for the Viva Examinationand 10 marks for the Journal.

However his/her marks of the Semester End Examination shall becarried over and he/she shall be entitled for grade obtained by him/her on passing.

ALLOWED TO KEEP TERMS (ATKT):

ATKT for Faculties of Arts & Commerce is read as under:-a. A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester II irrespective

ORA learner who fails in not more than four courses of Semester I andSemester II taken together with not more than two courses each insemester I & II.

c. A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester IV irrespectiveof number of heads of failure in Semester III. However, the learnershall pass each course of Semester I and Semester II in order toappear for Semester IV.

d. A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester V if he/shepasses Semester I, Semester II, Semester III and Semester IV

ORA learner shall pass Semester I and Semester II and fails in notmore than four courses of Semester III and Semester IV takentogether with not more than two courses each in sem. III & Sem. IV

e. A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester VI irrespectiveof number of heads of failure in the Semester V. However, thelearner shall pass each course of Semester III and Semester IV inorder to appear for Semester VI.

f. The result of Semester VI shall be kept in abeyance until the learnerpasses each of Semester I, Semester II, Semester III, Semester IV andSemester V.

iii) A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester IV irrespectiveof grades obtained in each course of Semester III. However learnerhas to pass either of Semester I or Semester II in order to appear forSemester IV

Additional ExaminationsA) INTERNAL ASSESSMENT:

Eligibility norms to appear for the additional class test orassignment or project for learners who remained absent:-

a) The learner must apply to the Head of the Institution giving thereason(s) for absence within 8 days of the conduct of theexamination along with the necessary documents and testimonials.

b) If the learner is absent for participation in Inter Collegiate events,State or National or International level events, Training camp orcoaching camp organized by authorized university or state ornational or international bodies, NSS / NCC Events / Camps /cultural activities / sports activities / research festival or any otheractivities authenticated by the head of the institution, the head ofthe Institution shall generally grant permission to the learner toappear for the additional class test or assignment.

B) SEMESTER END EXAMINATIONSELIGIBILITY TO APPEAR FOR ADDITIONAL SEMESTEREND EXAMINATION:

A learner who does not appear i.e. remains absent in some or allthe courses on medical grounds or for representing the college /university in sports, cultural activities, activities of NSS, NCC orsports training camps conducted by recognized bodies / competentauthorities or for any other reason which is considered valid under

exceptional circumstances and to the satisfaction of the Principalor the Head of the Institute OR fails in some or all the subjects iseligible to appear for the additional examination.A learner who does not appear for both the Internal Assessmentand Semester End Examination shall not be eligible to appear forthe additional Semester End Examination.The learner who has failed in the Semester End Examination and/or in the additional examination shall be allowed to appear for theATKT examination which will be conducted for the same semesterof the next academic yearThe additional Semester End Examination shall be of two hoursduration and of 60 marks per course. The learner shall appear forthe course of the Semester End Examination for which he/she wasabsent or has failed. Learners who are punished under O.5050(12) (1) can appear for this additional examination, but Learnerswho are punished under O.5050 (12) (2) to O.5050 (12) (12) are noteligible to appear for this additional examination.

Gracing shall be carried out as per the existing Ordinances of theUniversity of Mumbai.

Verification :

There will be facility of Verification of marks at the F.Y., S.Y., B.A.,B.Sc., and B.Com. Examinations conducted in the College.Verification includes correction of mistakes in transfer of entries,totaling and correction for unassessed part of answer, if any. Inthe event of any discrepancy noted rectification will be effected.

Verification does not include reassessment.

Exemption : An unsuccessful student who obtains the minimumpercentage of marks prescribed for passing in a Subject/Practicalmay, at his/her option be exempted from appearing in that Subject/Practical at his/ her subsequent appearance and will be declaredto have passed the whole Examination on his/her passing in theremaining Subjects/Practicals in which he/she has failed.

Ex-Students : Students who have been declared failed at theExamination or who have been Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT)for the higher class shall appear as Ex-student for the AnnualExamination held by the College.

Annual Examination : (For Old Course Students Only)

A. Eligibility to appear at the Annual Examination :A student, who has failed or is Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT) forhigher class is eligible to appear at the Annual Examination.

B. Nature of Annual Examination :The Annual Examination will be of three hours duration and of100 marks per Paper/Subject where there are no Practicals and oftwo hours duration and of 60 marks per Paper/Subject where thereare Practicals. The paper shall be drawn over the entire syllabusand will be divided into two sections viz. Section I based on portionof syllabus taught in the First Term and Section II based on portionof syllabus taught in the Second Term. There will be two AnnualExaminations in an academic year, one before the end of the FirstTerm and other before the end of the Second Term.

ORDINANCE REGARDING AWARD OF 10 GRACEMARKS TO STUDENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN

ANY ONE OF THE VARIOUS EXTRA CURRICULARACTIVITIES:

0.229: Candidates appearing for any of the University Examination/Examinations conducted by the Colleges on behalf of the Universityshall be eligible for the award of maximum 10 grace marks at their option,wherever necessary in addition to the marks secured in each Head ofpassing for participation in any one of the activities mentioned below:

1. Students who have enrolled as members of the N.C.C. and havesatisfactorily completed the N.C.C. training programme duringthe academic year, as certified by the Principal/CommandingOfficer of their respective College, OR

(ii) Students who have participated in the N.S.S. programme and havesatisfactorily completed at least 120 hours of Social Servicecomprising the time spent in at least two types of projects as certifiedby the Principal of their respective College and forwarded by theN.S.S. Programme Coordinator, OR

(iii) Students who are one of the members of the team/s reaching theQuarter final stage at intercollegiate sports competitions or havesecured one of the eight places in order of merit in individual sportevent conducted by the University or have represented theUniversity in sport events either at the Inter State or at Zonal levelor at National level or at International level and have produced

the necessary certificate from the Principal of their respective Collegeand forwarded by Head of the concerned Section, OR

(iv) Students who are members of team/s securing first three positionsin cultural group events or have secured one of the first three placesin individual cultural events or whose performance have beenadjudged best as an Actor/Actress, Music Director, Lighting/Sound effect operator, Author, Choreographer, or as Director inGroup events conducted at the Intercollegiate cultural competitionorganized by the University, or have represented the University inany of the cultural events either at the State level or at the Zonallevel or at the National level or at the International level in thesame academic year as certified by the Principal of their respectivecollege and forwarded by Head of the concerned Section, OR

(v) Students who are members of the Students’ councils constitutedunder Section 40 (2) (a) or Section 40 (2) (b) or under Section 40 (4)of the Maharashtra Universities Act 1994, and have activelyparticipated in various schemes, programs and attended functionsof the University during that academic year, as recommended bythe Principal of the concerned College and certified by the Directorof Students Welfare.

229-A: Students participating in the Extension Work activities organizedby the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension are entitled to thebenefit of 10 grace marks on satisfactorily completion of 120 hours ofwork, except for Industry Orientation Project, where the minimumrequirement is 240 hours of work, under various Extension Work Projects.

The benefit of 10 grace marks to candidates would be availableonly in any one of the activities mentioned above, at their optionsubject to their fulfilling following conditions:

2. That they are appearing for any University Examination except theExaminations having point system of evaluation for the first time.

3. That in case of failure in one or more Heads of passing anExamination, the benefit of grace marks shall be granted to theextent of 5% of the maximum marks allotted to the Head of passingthe concerned subject.

4. That the grace marks will be granted for the purpose of claimingexemptions in a subject/s, provided it shall not exceed 5% of themaximum marks allotted to a subject.

5. That the maximum of 10 grace marks shall be granted for thepurpose of enabling a candidate for the award of class and ordistinction in the Examination.

6. That maximum 10 grace marks will be added to the grand total, ifthe benefit of grace marks is not claimed in any of the above (2) to(4) conditions.

7. That if the examination is conducted in semester and the marks ofthe two semesters are clubbed, the question of grant of 10 gracemarks in odd semester under this Ordinance shall be consideredat their option to students if they prove merit only in that particularodd semester in activities mentioned above and comply with allsuch conditions stipulated therefore, else the same shall be grantedin even semester examination of that academic year.

8. That the grace marks under this Ordinance will not be counted forthe award of scholarships, prizes and medals or any other awards.

9. That the rules relating to gracing under this Ordinance shall beapplied first and the same shall separately be shown in the markssheet of the candidates.

10. That the University authorities may consider withholding of anyof the aforesaid benefit or to consider any of the merit/work of thecandidates null and void if, in the option of duly constitutedDisciplinary Committee, such an action is felt necessary, andcommunicated to University through the Principal/Head of theDepartment.

REVALUATION OF ANSWER BOOKSAs per the directions of the Honourable Vice – Chancellor,

University of Mumbai, vide letter No. Exam./Photo & Rev. / College /VCD / 4637 of 2010 following are the extracts of Rules and Procedurefor providing of Photo copies of assessed answer book/s to theexaminee & Process of Revaluation of the Answer - book/s of theexaminee who apply for the revaluation.

1. Applying for Photocopy of answer book and applying forRevaluation will be two independent processes.

2. Applying for the Photocopy of the answer book or havingPhotocopy of the answer book shall not be a pre-requisite forapplying for revaluation of the answer book in the said subject.

3. The student can independently apply for revaluation ORPhotocopy OR both simultaneously.

PART - I

Extracts of the Rules and Procedure for providingthe Photocopy /ies of assessed answer-book/s.

1. The facility of obtaining Photocopy/ies of assessed and/or moderatedanswer book/s by the examinee is extended with a view to bringtransparency in the examinations system and ensure its credibility.

2. This facility, thus provided, shall be for theory papers only of allthe examinations conducted by the college / institution on behalfof the University in the current session.

3. Under these rules applying for the Photocopy/ies of answer-booksshall not be permitted in respect of the scripts of practicalexamination / term-work / sessional work / project work /dissertation / internal assessment / term work (including theorypart) and in Viva voce / oral / practical examinations. Howeverwithin seven (7) working days from the date of declaration of theresults or on issue of the statement of marks by the college thecandidate shall be allowed to apply in the prescribed format forthe head wise internal split of his marks obtained at suchexaminations along with payment of non-refundable fee of Rs.100/- by cash or D.D. drawn in favour of the Principal of therespective college from where the candidate has registered for thesaid course; and the provisions of Rule 10 to Rule 24 shall beapplicable mutatis mutandis to the extent they shall be applicablefor supply of the head wise internal split of the marks, except thatof applying for revaluation.

4. The Photocopy/ies shall be sought by submission of applicationin the prescribed form along with the non-refundable fee of Rs.100/- per answer book by the examinee. The said fee shall beremitted by cash or by D.D. drawn in favour of the Principal ofrespective college to which the candidate has registered for thesaid course. The examinee’s belonging to reserved categories shallbe granted 50% concession in fee.

5. The prescribed application form for obtaining Photocopy/ies ofanswer book shall have to be filled and signed by the applicantexaminee only and shall be submitted to the respective college /institution to which the candidate has registered for the said coursewithin seven (7) working days from the date of the declaration ofresult of the examination or issue of statement of marks by thecollege / institution, whichever is later.

6. Incomplete application form shall be rejected without assigningany reason whatsoever and the fees paid along with the applicationform shall neither be refunded not will any representation beentertained.

Note : a) It will also be the responsibility of the student to collect thestatement of Marks from the college and apply forPhotocopy/ies or/and revaluation within stipulated time.

b) No application after the due date will be entertained onany ground whatsoever.

7. The Photocopy/ies shall be handed over to the applicant examineein person only and under no circumstances to any other person.

8. While obtaining the Photocopy/ies from such respective collegethe applicant examinee shall have to produce the original receiptof submission of application form and to establish his/her identity,to the Principal or the Officer of the college authorized by him.

9. On receipt of Photocopy/ies the applicant examinee shall be thesole custodian of it and under any circumstances the examineeshall not part with the custody/possession of the same and alsoshall not use the same for any other purpose/s.

10. The Photocopy/ies so obtained by the examinee shall be of his/her exclusive and relevant use. Neither the said examinee nor anyother person can use the said copy to dispute or challenge thequality of assessment or quantum of marks assigned to the answerstherein.

11. If the examinee is found guilty of indulging in any unfair act/attempthe/she shall be liable to be tried before the Unfair Means InquiryCommittee of the college and the decision taken by the authoritiesbased on the recommendation of the said committee shall be final.

12. If his/her indulgence commission in unfair act/attempt isproved, the examinee shall be liable for the punishment rangingfrom : (i) cancellation of his/her marks in the said subject, eitheroriginally granted or granted on revaluation as the case may be,(ii) annulment of examination’s for a stipulated period ofmaximum up to 5 examinations, (iii) cancellation of his/herresult of the examination etc.

13. On receipt of the photocopy if the discrepancy of following natureis noticed by the examinee, he should apply to the Principal in theprescribed form along with the said photocopy and copy of the

question paper within three (3) working days from the date ofpublication of the notice by the Principal of the respective collegeas per the provisions hereinabove. i) Mistake in totalling. ii) Non assessment of a question / sub-question, if required.After due verification, the Principal of respective college shall makenecessary rectification in the marks allotted to the said subject andconsequently in the result of the candidate without charging anyfurther fee for the necessary rectification.

14. On rectification of the result as per the provisions above, thecandidate can apply for revaluation within seven (7) workingdays from the date of receipt of the rectified result, if he/she wasnot eligible to apply for revaluation of the said answer book underRule 29 herein below mentioned and only by such rectificationbecomes eligible for revaluation in the said subject, subject to otherlimitations contained herein.

15. The examinee is free to apply for Photocopy/ies of answer booksof as many subject as he/she so desire.

PART - IIExtracts of the Rules and Procedure for the

Revaluation of the answer-book/s1. If the examinee is not satisfied with the marks awarded, he/she

may independently apply for revaluation to the college in theprescribed form with the period and in the manner prescribedhereinafter, whether or not he/she has applied for Photo/Photocopy/ies of the same to the college.

2. This revaluation facility shall be for theory papers only of all theexaminations conducted by the college on behalf of the Universityfor the respective current session.

3. The revaluation of answer books shall not be permitted in respectof the marks awarded to the scripts of practical examination /term work / sessional work / project work / dissertation / internalassessment / term work (including theory part) and in viva voce /oral / practical examinations in the college.

4. A candidate can apply for the revaluation of the answer book ofthe subject only if he/she has secured at least 20% of the totalmarks in that subject or 40% of the marks required for passing in

the said subject, whichever is less or the grade equivalent to theabove criteria where grades are assigned to the theory papers.

5. The prescribed application form for revaluation of answer bookcan be obtained from the office of the respective college to whichthe candidate has registered for the said course in the currentsession.

6. The non-refundable prescribed fees of Rs. 500/- per subject peranswer book for the purpose of revaluation shall be paid by theexaminee. The said fee shall be remitted by cash or by D.D. drawnin favour of the Principal of respective college to which thecandidate has registered for the said course in the current session.The examinees from the reserved categories shall be given fifty percent (50%) concession, provided a certified copy of the castecertificate is enclosed.

7. The prescribed application form for revaluation of answer bookduly filled in and signed by the applicant examinee only is to besubmitted to the concerned college office along with the statementof marks, prescribed fees as above and question paper’s for whichhe/she intends to apply for revaluation, within seven (6) workingdays from the date of the declaration of result of the respectiveexamination or from the date on which the college issued thestatement of marks, whichever is later. Incomplete form and formnot accompanied by relevant documents may be rejected withoutassigning any reason whatsoever.

8. Effect shall be given to the change in original marks on revaluation,as under

i) The marks obtained after revaluation shall be accepted bythe Principal of the respective college, if the marks assignedto a paper as a result of revaluation increase or decrease inrevaluation by ten percent (10%) or more than the markoriginally obtained by the candidate in the paper withoutany grace, and in such case, the marks originally obtained bythe candidate in the paper shall be treated as null and voidand the marks obtained by the candidate after revaluationshall be accepted as the marks obtained in that paper. For thepurpose of computing the ten percent (10%) difference inmarks, fractions shall be ignored.Notwithstanding what is stated above, the marks obtainedafter revaluation shall be accepted by the Principal of the

respective College, if the candidate gets benefit of passing thesubject/examination or change of class or grade in that paperor in the overall result at the said examination with or withoutgrace marks under the provisions of relevant Ordinances oras resolved by the examiners in the said subject.

ii) The revised marks obtained by a candidate after revaluation,as accepted by the Principal of the respective college shall betaken into account for the purpose of amendment of his resultsonly and the said result shall be communicated to the student/s by the Principal of the respective college.

9. The answer books already revalued shall not be moderated orfurther revaluated, unless so directed by the Vice-Chancellor, inexceptional cases.

10. The whole process of revaluation shall be completed as far aspossible within a period of thirty (30) days from the date of receiptof the application for revaluation by the college/institution.

11. The photo copy /copies of the revaluated answer-book /sshall not be provided to the Examinees.

12. Pending the process of revaluation, and subject to the availabilityof the seats in the college, the student may be admitted to the nexthigher class to which he could have been admitted if he/she hadpassed in the said examination or had been granted A.T.K.T. foradmission to the next class in the original examination as per therules applicable for the stream and faculty of his education, as perthe following norms :-i) The student may be admitted to the next higher class to which

he could have been admitted if he/she had passed in thesaid examination or had been granted A.T.K.T. for admissionto the next class in the original examination as per the rulesapplicable for the stream and faculty if he/she had originallyobtained required passing marks in the papers in which he/she had applied for revaluation.

ii) The college shall be entitled to charge fee of Rs. 500/- at thetime of granting admission to such students to the next classbefore declaration of the result of the revaluation.

iii) Such admission shall be provisional; and automaticallystands cancelled on receipt of the result of revaluation process,if the student is not declared passed in the requisite number

of the subjects on revaluation which would entitle him/herto take admission in the next higher class, and in such casethe fees originally collected by the college or any part of thesame shall not be refunded.

13. In case if the student is declared to have passed in the requisitenumber of the subjects on revaluation which would entitle him/her to take admission in the next higher class as per the Ordinances/regulations, the provisional admission will be regularizedi) In case of the reserved category students or other students

who are entitled to get fee concession, on appropriating theamount equal to the amount of fees which the college cancollect from the student and the balance amount shall berefunded to the student at the time of confirmation andcontinuation of his/her admission.

ii) In case of other students, the said amount shall be deductedfrom the total fees which the college or the institution is entitledto collect from the student as per the rules applicable.

14. Pending the declaration of the result of the revaluation, the studentswho have taken admission to next higher class, as mentionedabove, shall be allowed to appear at the examination to the nextclass and their results of the next examinations shall be declaredonly on their passing in the requisite number of the subjects onrevaluation which would entitle them to take admission in thenext class; and in case the students does not succeed in passing insuch requisite number of subjects, their admission to theexaminations of the next class, their performance and results ofthe same shall be treated as null and void.

This VCD shall come into force with immediate effect i.e. from theexamination of First Half 2010 and shall remain in force till new rulesand regulations in pursuant to the subject matters dealt with in thisVCD are made by the appropriate authorities.

SELF-FINANCED COURSESAdmission to Bachelor of Science (Information Technology)

Degree Course

As per the University of Mumbai Circular No. UG/283 of 2007 dated16.06.2007, following are the Ordinances 5051 and 5053 relating to theeligibility for admission to the B.Sc. (I. T.) Degree course:

0.5051:1. A candidate for being eligible for admission to the First Year of the

Degree course of Bachelor of Science (Information Technology)[B.Sc.(I. T.)], shall have passed XIIth Standard examination of theMaharashtra Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalentwith Mathematic and Statistics as one of the subject and shouldhave secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate for opencategory and 40% marks in aggregate in case of reserved categorycandidates.

2. Candidates who have passed Diploma [Three years after S.S.C.(Xth) Standard] in Information Technology / Computer Technology/ Computer Engineering / Computer Science / Electrical,Electronics and Video Engineering and Allied Branches /Mechanical and Allied Branches / Civil and Allied branches areeligible for direct admission to the Second Year of the B.Sc. (I. T.)Degree course. However, the Diploma should be recognized by theBoard of Technical Education or any other recognized GovernmentBody. Minimum marks required 45% aggregate for open categorycandidates and 40% aggregate for reserved category candidates.

ORCandidates with post H. S. C. -Diploma in Information Technology/ Computer Technology / Computer Engineering / ComputerScience and Allied branches will be eligible for direct admission tothe Second Year of B.Sc. (I. T.). However, the Diploma should berecognized by the Board of Technical Education or any otherrecognized Government Body. Minimum Marks required 45%aggregate for open category candidates and 40% aggregate forreserved category candidates.

R 4411 - Passing Standards1. A student is said to have passed if he / she secures 40% of

Examination Scheme for Languages:Every language (English/Marathi/Hindi/German/French/Japanese)for F.Y.J.C. & S.Y.J.C. is prescribed for 100 marks consisting of writtenexamination of 80 marks of 3 hours duration and an Oral examinationof 20 marks. Written examination for S.Y.J.C. will be conducted by theH.S.C. Board and the Oral examination will be conducted by the Collegeand the marks will be submitted to the H.S.C. Board.

In the Oral examination, students will be examined in their skills inListening (6 marks), Reading (4 marks), Speaking (5 marks) andConversation (5 marks). It will be held before the commencement of theAnnual H.S.C. Board Examination as per the schedule received fromthe Board. It will be mandatory for every student to appear for the Oralexamination as per the schedule displayed on the Notice Board.

If a student fails to do so, he will be reported ‘Absent’ and no markswill be assigned to him. The College will not be responsible, if astudent fails to appear for the Oral Examination.
