7PHOENIXFILMFESTIVAL.COM

• Get your tickets early. You’ll need to visit our Ticket Center to be able to attend any films or events that are being held in the theatre. They’ll give you a shiny Brown Paper Tickets voucher, and then you’ll head over to the Harkins Guest Service to exchange those vouchers for your seat assignment and ticket.

• Looking for the schedule? It’s smack-dab in the middle starting on page 36.

• We have soooo many films. All the films are broken out into sections by category. At the beginning of each section is a short explanation of each category.

• The film index is a great tool to get you the details if you know the title of the film. If you need it, it’s on page 69.

• We’re excited to welcome back The Arizona Republic Party Pavilion. You can learn all about the parties on page 53.

• A film festival is also a great way to learn about filmmaking. Take a look at our educational events on page 55.

• Are you a fan of horror and sci-fi films? We totally have you covered with the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival. Check out the lineup starting on page 61.

• Please take a look at our sponsors and support them all year long. They’re an extremely important part of the festival, so show them a little (or a lot of) love.

• Embrace the festival. Take a break from the world outside the theatre and just enjoy the movies, events, and experiences. You deserve it.

Thank you for being here.

Jason Carney Executive Director

Welcome to the 2022 Phoenix Film Festival! We’re excited to be back in our normal place on the calendar for the first time since 2019. The three years since April of 2019 have given us challenges we never predicted. That included putting on three festivals over seventeen months. During a pandemic. But you know what? We’re excited and grateful to have you here and to share so many great films with you.

The Duke Run Time: 100 minutes

Screening Times: Friday, April 1 at 7:30pm

Directed by: Roger Mitchell

Cast: Helen Mirren, Jim Broadbent

Synopsis: In 1961 Kempton Bunton, a 60-year old taxi driver, stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It was the first (and remains the only) theft in the Gallery’s history. Kempton sent ransom notes saying that he would return the painting on the condition that the government invested more in care for the elderly - he had long campaigned for pensioners to receive tree television. What happened next became the stuff of legend. Only 50 years later did the full story emerge - Kempton had spun a web of lies. The other truth was that he was a good man, determined to change the world and save his marriage - how and why he used the Duke to achieve that is a wonderfully uplifting tale.
