E.M.Missouri has 114 coun-

ties and the City of St. Lou-is. In the Tuesday Primary Election last week, there were two of the five consti-tutional amendments that sparked controversy.

Amendment No. 1, which dealt with a “right –to-farm” provision in the constitution, was narrowly adopted by the voters.

Amendment No. 7, sponsored by the Missouri State Highway Department supporters who fueled the effort with some four mil-lion dollars, were deci-sively defeated by a vote of 590,963 against the multi-million sales tax increase, with 407,532 supporting the 10 year tax hike. Opponents of the measure raised and spent only $25,000.00 to de-feat the added tax burden.

Missouri’s highway bud-

get is projected to plummet from a recent high of $1.3 billion annually to $325 million by 2017. There is no Plan B to replace that mon-ey since the amendment was projected to raise at least $540 million annually.

Construction contrac-tors, labor unions, engi-neering firms and others poured more than $4 mil-lion into the Missouri sales tax campaign and outspent opponents by a more than 100-to-1 ratio.

Opposition came from both staunch conservatives and strident liberals, who fear the sales tax, would hit the poorest the hardest while collecting nothing from the heaviest highway users. The sales tax hike wouldn’t apply to tractor-trailer rigs.

“The absurdity of it is if you go out and buy your

child a toy truck and then you go out and buy an 18-wheeler, you’re going to pay more road tax on the toy truck than you are for the 18-wheeler,” said Thom-as R. Shrout Jr., a St. Louis consultant who was treasur-er of the opposition group.

Of the 114 counties in Missouri, residents of 98 of the counties by majority voted “No” on Amendment No. 7.

Amendment No. 7 took a drubbing

Charlea MillsFor yet another month,

sales tax revenue for both the county and the City of Cass-ville continues to spike. In the month of July, Barry County’s tax revenue was up 15.84 per-cent when compared to July 2013. That increase means an additional $18,094.44 for the County’s general revenue.

The City of Cassville’s rev-enue was also up for July with numbers coming in at 7.3 percent over last year’s totals. For the City, the equated to an additional $8,000 approxi-mately.

For the year, both Cass-ville and Barry County have a good cushion of extra revenue when compared to 2013. For the year, Cassville is up 6.4 percent with $66,773 over the budgeted funds for months January through July. Barry County’s revenue is up 12.57 percent for the year with $134,333.98 over anticipated funding from sales taxes.

The County also held steady in its collection of the new 1/8 cent tax that began in October of last year. Most months, the amount col-lected has hovered around $33-37,000. July’s collected amount was $33,132.40. If trends continue, Cassville and Barry County could be left with a hefty revenue cushion by the end of the year.

Four are in jail fol-lowing a meth lab bust on Wednesday last week. David Michael Oplinger, 23; Shawn Marie Short, 41; Cody Lane Oplinger, 24; and Jessie W. Oplinger were arrested on August 6 after an investigation by the Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force in Selig-man.

The SWMDTF and the Barry County Sheriff went to a residence on West View Road after receiving information that there was a methamphetamine lab inside. The owner granted permission for the trailer and surrounding to be searched.

While officers were searching, they found an orange backpack and a black backpack located in a car on the property that contained Drano, lighter fluid, cold packs, lithium batteries, and other ma-

terials necessary for mak-ing methamphetamine. In another car, officers found crystal drain opener, start-er fluid, and a grinder with a white powdery substance in it.

Cody Oplinger is charged with possession of a controlled substance for two baggies of meth-amphetamine found on August 5 before the prop-erty search on Wednesday as well as distribution. Shawn Marie Short, Jes-sie Oplinger and David Oplinger are all facing manufacturing to distrib-ute charges as well as pro-bation violations. Short is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond. David is be-ing held in lieu of a $30,000 bond. Jessie is being held in lieu of a $10,182 for probation violation and failure to appear. Cody has already posted bond.

Wheaton welcomes four new teachers

Wheaton Schools welcomed four new teachers for the 2014-2015 school year. They are pictured above, left to right: Leah Jones, Elementary Teacher; Jessica Lombard, Elementary and Jr. High Physical Education; Jon Branscum, Junior High History, and Billie Jo Hardy, Elementary and High School Music.

Fundraiser planned for Seligman man

Labor Day weekend is coming up. For many Americans, that means an extra day off, backyard and beach barbecues, and visiting friends and fam-ily. Unfortunately, it also means a sharp increase in drunk-driving-related fa-talities. So starting August 15 and continuing through September 1, local police will be aggressively target-ing drunk drivers as part of a nationwide effort to end drunk driving and save lives. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign will pair increased public awareness with high-visi-bility enforcement, result-ing in fewer drunk drivers on Cassville roads.

In 2012, there were 10,322 people killed in drunk-driving crashes in the United States. Over La-bor Day weekend (6 p.m. Friday to 5:59 a.m. Tues-day) that year, more than a third (38%) of all traffic fatalities were in drunk-driving crashes. These grim facts should speak for theselves, but they haven’t gotten everyone’s attention yet.

“It’s tragic how many people lose their lives to drunk driving,” said Dana Kammerlohr, Cassville Chief of Police. “If the news reported that more than 10,000 people were killed in a preventable crime spree, the American public would be outraged!” Kammerlohr continued. For the first time, the Cass-ville Police Department will be joining the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign and will ar-

rest anyone caught driving drunk. No tolerance, no excuses.

Over the Labor Day weekend in 2012, there were 147 people killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes across the country. And here’s a staggering sta-tistic: out of all the crash fatalities that weekend, one in four (25%) were at-tributed to drivers with a blood alcohol concentra-tion (BAC) of .15 grams per deciliter (g/dL) or higher—almost twice the legal limit in all 50 states and the Dis-trict of Columbia.

Every 51 minutes, someone is killed in a drunk-driving crash. Over the Labor Day weekend, those fatalities increase to one every 34 minutes. Nighttime is especially dangerous; almost half (46%) of the fatalities in nighttime (6 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.) crashes over the La-bor Day weekend involved a driver with a BACs of .08 or higher. By comparison, 25 percent of the fatalities in daytime fatal crashes in-volved an impaired driver.

Young drivers are over-represented in drunk-driv-ing crashes, too. Among young drivers—between the ages of 18 and 34— killed in motor vehicle crashes during the 2012 La-bor Day weekend, almost half (48%) had a BAC of .08 or higher, the legal limit in all states. For drivers under

21, anything above a BAC of .00 is illegal.

“Driving drunk is total-ly inexcusable,” said Chief Kammerlohr. “We’re hop-ing that Cassville drivers get the message and take some simple steps to pre-vent a tragedy. There’s al-ways another way home.” The Cassville Police De-partment is reminding drivers to plan ahead and designate a sober driv-er before attending any events where alcohol will be served. “Planning a so-ber ride home, whether it’s a friend, a taxi, or public transportation, is the right choice,” added Chief Kam-merlohr.

This Labor Day week-end don’t let the festivities turn into fatalities. Law enforcement is not mess-ing around: if you’re caught driving drunk, you will be arrested. Remember that aside from the obvious risks of killing yourself or someone else, driving im-paired can also lead to seri-ous punitive consequences. A DUI arrest can mean time in jail, loss of your li-cense, and steep financial expenses; the average DUI costs about $10,000.

Charlea MillsOfficers with many law

enforcement agencies within Barry County received spe-cial training hosed by the Cassville Police Department yesterday.

On Tuesday, August 12, former Chief of Police in West Memphis, Ark., Bob Paudert talked to the officers about the threat of sovereign citizens, people who have re-nounced their United States citizenship and are consid-ered the biggest danger to police officers in the U.S. ac-cording to the FBI.

Paudert does the training for different law enforcement agencies full time in honor of his son, officer Brandon Paudert, who was killed on duty by sovereign citizens carrying an AK-47 during a routine traffic stop. Paudert believes that if his son was more aware of sovereign citizen tactics, his son would

still be alive. Training focused on the

beliefs of sovereign citizens, tactics that they use to harass law enforcement and how of-ficers should respond to keep themselves safe. Because sovereign citizens do not ac-knowledge the authority of law enforcement, a faction of

them are violent and danger-ous to officers.

According to Paudert, sovereign citizens believe that anyone born after 1933 is considered collateral prop-erty to the U.S. government and this teaching of them has a secret government bank ac-count that contains $630,000 to $20 million in it that they can access if they renounce their citizenship. They also believe that the government has no right to tax them or make laws and that law en-forcement has no jurisdic-tion over them. Because they are anti-government, they also view law enforcement officers as the enemy.

Paudert’s training focused

on how officers can keep safe and how to deal with the confusing rhetorical strate-gies that sovereigns use to try to confuse people. Officers with Cassville, Exeter, Purdy, Washburn, Monett, Barry County Sheriff ’s Depart-ment and Highway Patrol were present at the training held at Cassville City Hall. Cassville Police Chief Dana Kammerlohr stated, “We do run into them, not everyday, but it does happen. So when we had the opportunity to have Bob come, we wanted to share that opportunity to all officers in Barry County.”

Noah’s Ark Community Pre School first day of school is scheduled for Tuesday, Sep-tember 2, 2014. The classes are held in the Central Com-munity United Methodist Church, Highway YY, in Shell Knob from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the school year. The school cal-ender follows the Shell Knob School Calender so that par-ents with children in Shell Knob Schools can plan for close to the same days in and out of class.

The school’s educational objective is to prepare the children for kindergarten. A very low student-teacher ratio (generally 1:3) enhances the

personal learning techniques utilized by the school teachers. Children receive instruction and guidance from teachers who practice patience, love and dedication for the students’ in-dividual learning needs.

Scholarships are avail-able to all regardless of race, religion or social or financial background. Scholarships are available for those who are not able to afford the nominal tu-ition fee.

For more information, contact School Coordinator Marlene Martensen at (417) 342-6272 or the church sec-retary Terry Strache at (417) 858-6707. Applications are available at the Church Office or can be mailed.

WHEATON R-III SCHOOL DISTRICTNOTICE OF TAX RATE HEARING

A hearing will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday August 19, 2014 at the Wheaton School Elementary Workroom, at which time citizens may be heard regarding property tax rates proposed to be set by the Wheaton R-III School District, located in Barry, Newton and McDonald counties. Southwest’s Kyle Jordan, 8th grade, and Kara Jordan, eighth grade, on the first day back at school.

Cassville Police Chief Dana Kammerlohr issued this notice about back to school safety:

School has started this week, so we ask drivers to be aware of students as they walk to school. We want them

to beware of the speed limit during school hours around the school campus. Take ex-tra care in these areas for the safety of the children. We ask for all to have patience while driving through town during peak school traffic times, as well.

Also parents, we would like for you to discuss with your children about being aware of the traffic and for them to be sure and look both ways before they cross a street to make sure the vehicles stop for them and trying to always cross at crosswalks.

the City’s pipes are copper with lead joints. Overtime, the pipes are deteriorated, causing issues.

So far, all the City is out financially is $2,000 to cover the costs of the study done by Schultz. The coun-cil members motioned to move forward on the grant paperwork to see what per-centage of the project could be funded. According to Marshall, a little less than half of the City’s 43 miles of pipes would need to be replaced with 30,000 feet of 8 inch pipe and 55,000 feet of 6 inch pipe. Some of the City’s pipe has already been replaced with PVC, but the totals for that were not avail-able.

Once completed, Mar-shall estimated that the City would save $17,000 annually just on energy due to elec-tricity usage. Some of the pipe to be laced would be in new areas to bypass old sys-tems of pipeline, as well.

The biggest issue with the pipes as it stands, according to Marshall, is primarily age. Some of the pipes in place are 80-90 years old, which is past the reasonable expected life of the material.

The amount of grants

the City could receive will be based on numerous fac-tors, including median in-come and the amount the City charges for water. Cur-rently, 5,000 gallons of water (not including sewer) costs $29.46. According to DNR, that rate should be $45.60, a sizable jump should the City need to raise rates. The City is not currently discussing raising rates, but the lower bills could impact their grant eligibility. Currently, 85 percent of Cassville cus-tomers use 5,000 gallons a month. DNR bases their suggested water utility rate on census data’s median in-come.

Schultz began the study for Cassville in February of this year, and it will be awhile before any deci-sions are made. According to Public Works Director Steve Walensky, the City has two years to make any for-ward progress on the project to satisfy DNR. However, no major decisions will be made until the City becomes aware of how much of the $4.8 million estimate grants would cover and how much the City would need to pro-vide.

Les Jacobs Ford of Cassville is a Silver Sponsor of this year’s Shakin’ in the Shell Festival and Car Show. General Manager Darrin Jacobs, who moved to this area 17 year ago from Wel-lington recently reflected on Les Jacobs’ former dealership in Shell Knob by saying while they were saddened to leave the area, they still have a lot of wonderful customers and good friends in Shell Knob. Jacobs said “We are interested in supporting local communi-ties in Barry County and their festivals. By doing so, we are supporting the people who support us.” Why support the Shakin’ in the Shell? Jacobs re-plied he wants his business to be a part of several of the local community festivals and they have done so for years. Jacobs emphasized that it is “not a question of if we’re going to do

it, it is a question of when it’s going to happen. Any time a small town is doing something to make things better, you gotta’ be a part of it.” Remem-

ber to mark your calender to attend the Shakin’ in the Shell Festival and Car Show Satur-day, September 20 starting at 9:45 a.m. just 400 yards west of Highway 39 down Needles

Eye Road at the Old Ball Park in Shell Knob to see what a day of all family fun Sponsors like Les Jacobs Ford has helped make happen.

Courtney RasmussenAll of Cassville is trying

to hold down their excite-ment for Friday Night Foot-ball to start up. Most of Cass-ville loves cheering on their Wildcats as they take to bat-tle on the field. The Wildcat boys definitely put in many hours of dedication on and off the field. The main man behind them, Head Football Coach Lance Parnell, dedi-cates even more time in order to have a great season.

Parnell has been the Head Coach of the Wildcats for two years now. He first began coaching in Rogers, Ark. for two years and has been with the Wildcats for 18 years. Since Parnell started off at Cassville with a two year contract, not planning on go-ing any further. Soon he dis-

covered he loved coaching at Cassville. “I love Cassville, and there is a reason I have been here for 18 years,” Par-nell explained. Not only did he stay in Cassville for the football, Parnell admitted, “I love Table Rock Lake.”

Growing up, both Par-nell’s parents were teachers and his dad also coached. In high school, Parnell played football and baseball and his dad was the head coach. Par-nell was influenced greatly by his parents. He men-tioned, “My parents taught me right from wrong.” He soon followed in his parents footsteps.

It’s clear that Parnell has a passion for sports after 20 years of coaching and several years of playing. “I love be-ing around kids and watching

all of my players improve as you work with them,” he ex-pressed.

Most people don’t know the time a coach puts in ev-eryday. For Parnell, it’s an 11 to 12 hour week day and 8 to 10 hours on the weekends. He admitted, “I thought I was ready when I took the head coach position until I real-ized how much other stuff comes with it.”

Aside from coaching, Parnell takes on farming. He owns cows and horses. He also enjoys fishing. Parnell attends Church at First Bap-tist in Cassville. In the past, Parnell was in charge of Fel-low Christian Athletes (FCA) at Cassville for 11 years. His greatest influence in his life he said is God. “I have a strong faith.”

Parnell grew up in North-west Arkansas and graduated high school from West Fork High School. He then gradu-ated from the University of Arkansas. Parnell met his wife in Cassville and now has three children.

For youth entering the work force, Parnell said, “Don’t be afraid to work. Do things without being asked. See what needs to be done and do it before you are asked.”

Larson’s Heating, Air and Plumbing of Shell Knob, formerly Ozark Air Con-ditioning, Heating and Ap-pliances, is a silver sponsor of this year’s Shakin’ in the Shell Festival and Car Show. The festival is scheduled for all day Saturday, September

20, 2014, at the Chamber Park on Needles Eye Road.

In recent discussion with Larson’s general manager John Coonrod, he advised he started here in 1985 and has been in the heating and air business over 28 years under three different own-

ers. He is also a regular volunteer for the Shakin’ Festival and, most notably, is the Committee Chairman for the annual Buddy Bass Tournament, a tournament that was started by Coon-rod’s father-in-law in 1980. Buddy Bass has the distinc-tion of being the longest continuous running bass tournament on Table Rock Lake with 2014 being its 35th year.

As a long term resident,

employer and volunteer of the community, Coonrod would like to see improved occupancy of buildings for businesses in the area and hopes the current efforts by the Chamber for a 501(c)3 (non-profit) materializes. John sees a real value in sup-porting the Shakin’ Festival. He remarked “It is good for the community, good for the Chamber, and it is good for business.”

Officers conduct mock shooting at Exeter Schools

Deputy Justin Ruark and Deputy Angie Cole clear the classroom were one of the “shooters” was holding a teacher hostage .

Charlea MillsIn a partnership between

the Barry County Sheriff ’s Department and the Exeter School District, the depart-ment held a mock shooter training at the school.

The purpose of the event, according to Sheriff Mick Ep-perly, is to get officers famil-iar with the schools, but also recognize areas where they might need to change their tactics.

Two mock events were held on Thursday, August 7.

In the first session, officers quickly found the shoot-ers, took out injured parties and safely got the teachers and staff out of the building. However, in the second event, many officers were casualties due to some sneaky tactics by their pretend bad guys. Both exercises were positive learn-ing experiences for officers and staff alike.

The Sheriff ’s Depart-ment has conducted multiple mock shooting scenarios are area schools, including Shell Knob, Southwest, and Wheaton. This was the first time that the department has partnered with Exeter, but ac-cording to Epperly, being fa-miliar with the school is cru-cial to being effective if there were ever any emergency sit-uation with an active shooter in a local school.

Epperly stated, “Thank God we’ve never had that happen down here, but we want to be as prepared as we can if it ever did happen.”

Most of the Barry County Sheriff ’s Department officers, the Exeter Police Chief and Cox ambulance crew partici-pated in the event to make it as realistic as possible.

Notice of Public Hearing

A hearing will be held at 6:30 P.M., August 14, 2014, at the Southwest R-V High School Library. At this time, citizens may be heard on the property tax rates proposed to be set by Southwest R-V, a school district located in Barry and McDonald counties. The tax rates are set to produce the revenues, which the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014 shows to be required from the property tax. Each tax rate is determined by dividing the amount of revenue needed by the current assessed valuation. The result is multiplied by 100 so the tax rate will be expressed in cents per $100 valuation.

Charlea MillsOn the Seligman Cham-

ber of Commerce’s event schedule for 2014, the group has 32 events planned for the community. That is a far cry from the number of com-munity events planned for the area before the chamber began 11 years ago, but ac-cording to a Chamber volun-teers, the hard work has been worth it.

On Saturday night, the Seligman Chamber Event center was filled with a crowd of around 75 for one of the Chamber’s dances. Playing the music for the dancing was the first musician to ever play for a Chamber dance, Jerry Smith the One Man Band. Even though Smith now lives in Colorado, the Seligman dances hold a spe-cial place in his heart, and when he knew he would be vacationing back in the area, he offered to play again. The difference between when the dances first started and now is drastic to say the least. It isn’t unusual for the crowd to break 100 people in a night with some nights going over 150 people.

However, maybe more impressive than the num-ber of people is the distance many of them travel to come enjoy themselves, Jo Anne Ellis, Cassville, has been go-ing to the dances for awhile. She stated, “What they’ve done down here is amazing. They’ve created a really nice place where people can come to dance in a venue that is a wonderful, clean place. And when people hear about it and come down and see how nice it is, they come back. There’s been people from Rogers, Springfield, Nixa and Joplin, it’s getting bigger all the time.”

As part of the plan to draw more visitors, the chamber continues to make improve-ments to their Event Center and change up their dances. On Saturday, the dance had a silent auction, drawings for prizes and free admissions to future dances and a twist

contest. Chamber Director Diana Smith-Vigil stated, “We’re always trying to make our dances bigger and better. So we want to get the word out.”

All of the funds raised during the dances and other Chamber Events, like the train rides and truck and tractor pulls, go to help re-model the Event Center. So far the Chamber has remod-eled the inside, including putting in a new floor and lots of decorations. It has been a lot of work, but it has successfully drawn in many visitors to the Seligman area because of the reputation of the dances as being a place for clean, family fun.

Both the truck and trac-tor pull and train rides are also popular family-friendly events that make a good name for the Chamber but also the City of Seligman. This Saturday marks the an-nual fall truck and tractor pull that begins at 7 p.m. at Ruby’s Event Park on south Highway 37. In October, there will be the fall train ride to Van Buren, Ark., for their craft days.

The Chamber is also sell-ing raffle tickets for a new grill and accessories valued

at over $500. For more information

about the Seligman Cham-ber, ether events, or to get involved, contact (417) 662-3612.

Steve ChapmanTwo young members of

the First Christian Church of Cassville are attempt-ing to raise money to help build a house for a home-less family in El Salvador. Chris Dunker, 19, and Jes-sica Haney, 17, hope to raise $8,000 by September 25 to donate to 1Mission, an orga-nization dedicated to build-ing housing for homeless people around the globe.

Haney said she and Dunker were inspired to undergo the endeavor af-ter watching a video about 1Mission while on a church conference in Nebraska.

“We watched a video about a girl named Ruby, and she raised $10,000 for 1Mission, and it was really inspiring, so we decided to do it ourselves,” she said.

1Mission was started by founder Jason Law in 2008 with the goal of helping im-poverished people around the world help themselves and their communities. Ac-cording to Dunker, 100 per-cent of the donated money goes toward this cause.

“It helps pay for educa-tion, supplies, the workers who go down there, and the materials. It helps pay for all those so they will be able to build and improve their community,” he said.

Dunker also added that, while the homeless family is getting a house, it is not giv-en to them for free. 1Mission has certain requirements each family must meet in or-der to qualify for a house.

“The individuals have to earn their homes, so they have to do community ser-vice, like fixing the school or roads. They have to do some community hours and help improve their community,” he said.

The family that Dunker and Haney are helping to raise money for are the Gon-zales-Martinez family in El Salvador. The family con-sists of David, 44, a farmer; his wife Rosa, 33; and their two children, Sergio, 12, and Mayra, 6.

At present, Dunker and Haney have been raising funds by soliciting dona-tions via Facebook, and

Haney said she has sent let-ters asking for donations to friends who are not on Facebook. They have also received money from their church’s vacation Bible school. According to Haney, the children there donated an estimated $630.

Dunker and Haney are also getting help in their fundraising efforts from local photographer Mitzi Starkweather. Starkweather is helping to raise money by offering a special photogra-phy package to customers of five sessions for $250. She added that such a package is usually worth around $600. Starkweather will sell up to five of the packages.

In addition to the pho-tography sessions, Stark-weather is also offering other products, such as cus-tom photo books, wall art and albums. These products range in price from $350 to $600, and Starkweather says she will donate 75 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the products to 1Mission in addition to the money raised through the photography sessions. Those interested in scheduling a photo session or purchasing other mer-chandise can contact Stark-weather at (832) 729-4190 or through her website at www.mitzistarkweather.com.

Those who wish to do-nate online can go to https://my.1miss ion.org/c/517/FAITH/ where, in addition to donating, they can track Dunker and Haney’s fund-raising progress and also see the Gonzalez-Martinez fam-ily and the conditions they currently live in. Donations can also be made at the First Christian Church in the care of Jason Starkweather, student minister. The First Christian Church is located at the corner of Old Exeter Road and Highway 37 in Cassville. More information about 1Mission is available at 1mission.org.

Dunker said that even those who can’t donate mon-ey can still help by spreading the word about their efforts and 1Mission in general.

“If you can’t donate,” he said, “check it out, see what it’s all about and pass it on.”

Purdy FFA member Mikala Fletcher took first place in the FFA Knowledge Contest at the Area 11 FFA Leadership day at Crowder College on July 16. Fletcher is the daughter of Charlie and Melissa Fletcher of Purdy.

Four Purdy FFA Members traveled to Washington D.C. in July for the annual Wash-ington Leadership Confer-ence. Jayse Henderson, Ash-ton Young, Desirie Ennes and Breanna Keeler learned valuable service and agricul-tural advocacy skills during the week-long conference.

The group also expe-rienced a sampling of the Smithsonian Museums and visited several of Washington D.C.'s monuments, including the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

Before returning home to implement their new knowl-edge and skills, Purdy's del-egates lent their services to Meals of Hope, packing more than 70,000 meals for disad-vantaged people in the Wash-ington D.C. community.

Participant Jayse Hender-son noted, "The Washington Leadership Conference not only empowered me to make

a change in my life, but it also inspired me to make a change in my community by serving

others. It was the experience of a lifetime, and I encourage all FFA members to go."

BARRY COUNTY ADVERTISER WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2014 3B3

BARRY COUNTY ADVERTISER

The Barry County Health Department divides food service code violations into two categories: Priority and Core Violations.

Priority Violations (pre-viously referred to as “Criti-cal”) are more likely than other violations to contrib-ute to food contamination or illness and/or injury.

Core Violations (previ-ously referred to as “Non-Critical”), although impor-tant to the overall hygiene of the establishment, do not necessarily present an im-mediate threat to food con-tamination or illness and/or injury.

A report for each estab-lishment that is inspected shows the number of criti-cal violations, along with a short statement as to the nature of the violations. The report also shows the number of non-critical vio-lations but doesn’t list the nature of those violations.
