1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

1.1 INTRODUCTION

Yashwantrao Chavan Mahavidyalaya, situated at Urun-Islampur in the Walwa Tehsil of Sangli district inSothern Maharashtra, was established in June, 1970 by ‘Walwa Taluka Education Society’. It was founded inpursuit of its motto ‘Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay’, by Late Shri. S. D. Patil (Ex. Member of Parliament)The catchment area of the college is mainly rural and imparting liberal and competent education to theneighbourhood villages is the main focus of the college. It has been a reputed and socially responsibleinstitution in academic, sports, and cultural fields since its establishment. Shivaji University, Kolhapur awardedthe certificate of merit to the college for securing the first rank in the faculty of Arts and Fine Arts in MeritScholarship Scheme for the year 2018-19.

The college has been accredited at ‘B’ level in 2014 by the NAAC with a CGPA of 2.20. The IQAC wasformed in the college as per the guidelines of NAAC in June 2004. Since then, it has been taking efforts toprovide quality education to the students. The total strength of students in the college for various degree coursesin a current academic year i.e. in 2020-21 is 1315. The college is screening a gradual transformation ineducation with 14 UG programmes, 01 PG programme, 03 UGC funded COCs, 01 value added course as SaralHindi supported by Hindustani Prachar Sabha, Mumbai and 05 skill-based certificate courses approved byLMC/CDC. Presently, the college has 07 university recognized research guides and 11 students are pursuingtheir M.Phil/ Ph.D. degree under their guidance.

The college has recently completed golden jubilee year and it has made several systematic efforts to buildexcellence in teaching, learning, research and extension activities and to contribute in nation-building byempowering the youths and inculcating multidimensional and holistic culture in them through educational, need-based, value-added and skill-based certificate courses since last 50 years. The CDC consisting of well-educatedand dynamic personalities is strongly dedicated to the cause of social welfare and quality education. During thelast five years, the college received noteworthy awards and appreciations for co-curricular and extensionactivities.

1.3 CRITERIA WISE SUMMARY

Curricular Aspects

The institutional goals and objectives are in accordance with the existing academic programmes. Thecurriculum is designed by the affiliated university. The college has three UG courses in Arts, Commerce andScience and one PG Course in Commerce. Among them, B. Sc. and M. Com. degree courses are run on a self-financed basis. Besides, the college runs self-financed BBA and BCA courses to equip the students to competein the global employment market and to enhance computer, marketing and management skills. College offersthree career-oriented certificate courses sponsored by UGC viz. Communicative English, E-Banking andHuman Right Education, while one certificate course in Saral Hindi sponsored by Hindustani Prachar Sabha,Mumbai. The institution has designed the curriculum of one of the COCs sponsored by UGC viz. HumanRights Education and 05 skill-based certificate courses approved by LMC/CDC. Minimum 30 students areenrolled every year for these courses. Students engaged in experimental learning through practical, projects andfieldwork in subjects like Geography, Commerce, Economics and the courses like B. Sc. BBA and BCA as pertheir respective curriculum designed by the affiliated University. Two faculty members, Dr. A. R. Shinde(Commerce and Management) and Dr. B. P. Patil (Economics), are working as members of the Board ofStudies of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Our remaining faculties give suggestions to the Board of Studies(BOS) of Shivaji University through various workshops concerning modified curricula. The students’ feedbackon curricula is conveyed to the BOS. The Institution ensures effective curriculum delivery through a well-planned and documented process and adheres to the academic calendar for the conduct of CIE.

Teaching-learning and Evaluation

The institution enrolls 1000 students averagely every year. The admission process for all programmes followsthe reservation policy of the Government. Restrictions of government Policies for recruitment of the teachingand non-teaching staff affect the student-teacher ratio. Experiential and participative learning of all programmesand courses is student-centric. Problem-solving methodologies are used for enhancing the learning process.Continuous Internal Evaluation of students is done through Home-Assignments, oral tests, seminars, projectworks and pre-semester exams. Decisions are made to improve the performance of the slow learners by givingextra coaching, extra study material and personal interaction with the students. The advanced learners areencouraged through special guidance and personal counselling. The faculties use lecture method with ICT toolsin teaching procedure. Integration of ICT helps teachers to replace traditional teaching methods withtechnology-based teaching-learning. The institution ensures an effective learning experience to the studentsthrough ICT tools-based teaching. The faculty members also use their YouTube Channels and personal blogs toprovide study material and extra knowledge to the students. Enrolled students are allotted to the facultymembers under the Mentor-Mentee Scheme. The faculty members are mentoring them in well manner underthe supervision of IQAC. The College analyzes the feedback forms on curriculum and teacher evaluationreceived from various stakeholders to make SWOT analysis and to improve the quality of faculty.

The institution grants duty leave and deputes teachers for national/international conferences, seminars,workshops and training programmes to update their knowledge. Guest lectures of scholars are arranged for the

students and teachers. The faculties deal with the learning outcomes to convert the knowledge of the studentsinto success.

Research, Innovations and Extension

‘The Knowledge Resource and Research Committee’ encourages the faculty to participate in researchactivities for the enhancement of the research culture of the college. Presently 09 faculty members are with Ph.D. degree and 07 of them are recognized as Ph. D guides/supervisors.

During the last five years, the faculty of this college published 134 research articles in journals and conferenceproceedings and chapters/units in books having ISSN and ISBN. All the faculties participate in State/ National /International conferences, seminars and workshops and present their research papers. 5 minor research projectsworth Rs 7,40,000/- were sanctioned by UGC to the faculties, out of which two are completed and threeprojects are in progress. Like teachers, the students also present their research work in Avishkar ResearchCompetition, and publish their articles and manuscript in the annual magazine ‘Yashodhan’ and wallpapers,‘Shabdankur’.

The college organized 02 UGC sponsored national-level conferences on “Promotion of Ethics and HumanValues” and “Fitness and Wellness of People through sports and Games”, 01 State level conference and 01state level workshop on “Domestic Violence”. The college also organized various workshops, guest lecturesand extension activities on ‘Soft Skills, Personality Development, Preparation of Research Projects, and othersin collaboration with University and social organizations from neighbourhood network.

The college has 02 NSS units. The work of NSS especially 05 Vanrai Bandhare constructed under the campaignfor water conservation in the adopted villages was highly appreciated. The college was honoured withmementos and certificates for this commendable work.

Infrastructure and Learning Resources

The Management provides adequate infrastructural facilities to keep pace with the academic growth of thecollege. The seven-acre college campus is developed with three-storied academic and administrative buildings,a playground for outdoor games, well-equipped gymkhana, Indoor stadium, Ladies Hostel, gardens andgreeneries with the financial assistance of management and UGC. The institution has adequate infrastructurehaving 59 rooms including 23 Classrooms, 02 Ladies Common Rooms, 02 Boys Common rooms, 03Administrative Office, Principal’s Cabin, 03 Staff Rooms, NSS Office, 02 Seminar Halls,07 Laboratories,IQAC room, Examination room, Reading Room, toilet blocks, washrooms, etc. The college campus is Wi-Fienabled with a high-speed internet connection and under CCTV surveillance. The facility of computers withBroadband Internet Facility is made available in the office, Principal’s Cabin, IQAC Room, NSS Room,Examination Room, Computer Labs, Language Lab, Library and Geography Lab. The available infrastructureis optimally utilized. The library is partially automated and well stacked having 22,113 books includingencyclopedias, reference books, dictionaries, reports and educational CDs. The computers with internet facility,printer and N-List programme for e-resources, reference section and reading room facilities are made availablein the library. The departmental libraries issue textbooks and reference books to the concerned students. Thecollege has ICT tools for the teaching-learning process. Drinking water facility is made available near thelibrary, gymkhana, laboratories and staff room. Besides the battery backup facility, the college has theprovision of a 250 KVA generator backup facility. The institution has established a system and procedures for

maintaining and utilizing physical, academic and support facilities.

Student Support and Progression

The college achieved a remarkable place in academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, as a result ofwhich the college received the first rank in merit scholarship in the faculty of Arts and Fine Arts in ShivajiUniversity, Kolhapur in 2018-19. In addition to this 90% of students receive financial support from StateGovernment, and Central Government scholarships and freeships.

Students are also assisted to avail benefit of various types of merit scholarships offered by the government andnon-government agencies. The institution provides financial assistance to needy and deserving students throughStudents Aid Fund. The faculties and the Alumni Association give cash prizes, books, and mementos to themeritorious students in academic and extracurricular activities. The college organizes various programmes forthe capacity building and skill enhancement of the students.

For student grievances, statutory and institutional committees such as Discipline, Grievances and Redressal,Anti-Ragging, Internal Complaint Committee, etc., monitor the issues of grievances.

Many students are placed in various governmental and corporate companies through placement campsorganized for student’s progression and career advancement.

The college has outstanding performance in sports, NSS and cultural activities. The hockey players of thecollege are part of the university team at the national level tournaments. The students have secured ranks inWrestling, Boxing, Handball, Softball, Swimming, Weight Lifting, Yoga, Chess and other games at zonal, inter-zonal and inter-university sports tournaments. In cultural activities, the students have secured first and secondranks at district and central level Youth festivals and secured state and national level prizes in cultural activities.The NSS units of the college organized various programmes of water conservation, tree plantation, blooddonation, AIDS awareness, Save Baby Girl Abhiyan, etc. supports in community service. A Special camp isorganised every year with a different objective in the adopted village. The alumni association of the college isactive since August 2013. Alumni have contributed to the development of the college in various forms likedonations and valuable feedback and suggestions. During the last 5 years, alumni made a contribution of morethan 5 lakh.

Governance, Leadership and Management

Walwa Taluka Education Society was founded in 1945 by Late Shri S. D. Patilsaheb – A former Member ofParliament. Its motto is ‘Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay’ means the betterment of masses.

The institution has an effective monitoring mechanism. The various committees are formed to carry out co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The Principal participates in decision making as a member ofGoverning council; the teachers participate in the College Development Committee, Standing Committee,IQAC and other statutory committees for implementation of institutional plans. Principal and IQAC is a linkbetween CDC and Governing Council.

HODs and the chairpersons execute departmental, extra and co-curricular activities. College committees areformed for participative management. The office superintendent works for the administration. IQAC executes

the academic activities to make continuous quality improvement. The institution follows UGC and theGovernment of Maharashtra for the appointment and services rules and procedures. The vacant posts, of self-financed courses, are filled by the management on a temporary basis.

S. D. Patil Co. Op. Society provides loans and other saving facilities to the teaching and non-teaching staff. Lifeand health insurance scheme availed by the staff. College organized training programmes for the teaching andnon-teaching staff for professional development. College motivates teachers to participate in orientation andrefresher courses, short-term courses, faculty development programmes, etc. College follows the UGC andShivaji University guidelines for performance appraisal system for teaching and non-teaching staff. Theinstitution has the Academic and Administrative Audit every year. The IQAC monitors quality assurancestrategies.

Institutional Values and Best Practices

The institution organizes gender equity and sensitization programmes. The institution has Gender Audit.Energy-saving equipments are used for energy conservation. The institution mounted a solar panel on ladieshostel. Water tanks are maintained and cleaned regularly. Rooftop rain water harvested through the retentiontanks method and used this water for gardening purpose.

The institution conducts a Green, Electricity and Environment Audit of its campus. The college has an eco-friendly campus with a variety of trees and plants of flower, medicinal, fruit, etc. There is one botanical gardenwith medicinal and other plants. ‘Sahyadri Enviro-Club’ encourages to the students to participate in eco-friendly activities. The institution observes ‘No Vehicle Day’ on the third Saturday of every month. Theinstitution provides the facility of Rams and human assistance to the differently-abled students for examination.The institution has open-source screen reader software ‘Serotek System Access’ for blind students. Institutioncelebrates festivals, socio-cultural activities, and birth and death anniversaries of national heroes to enhancenational integrity. The college has implemented best practices: 1. Yashorang - A Management Event and 2.State Level Hockey Tournament’.

1.1 Curricular Planning and Implementation 1.1.1 The Institution ensures effective curriculum delivery through a well planned and documented

process

Response:

The existing programmes offered by the institution are affiliated to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur andhence, the institution implements the curriculum designed and prescribed by the University. The institutionhas designed the syllabus of UGC and CDC approved Career Oriented Courses. Moreover, two FacultyMembers of this institution are actively involved in the design of the curriculum of the university for thelast four years, while the others are in the organization and participation of workshops on the revisedsyllabus for effective implementation of the curriculum. Some of the faculty members are involved inwriting chapters/ units in the texts and study materials published by the university.

In order to ensure effective curriculum delivery of these programmes, the institution follows the followingwell planned documented process:

The Timetable Committee draws up a detailed timetable for curricular and co-curricular activitiesand ensures a balance between the different types of engagement a student is expected to participatein.

The faculty members prepare course-wise and semester-wise teaching plans of their respectivesubjects and strictly implement the same throughout the academic year and submit their syllabuscompletion report to the principal through their concerned Heads of the Departments. The principaland the HODs review the performance of the teachers to ensure effective curriculum delivery.

To make the process of teaching-learning more effective and interactive, the faculty members useICT based teaching resources including PowerPoint presentations and e-modules. Guest lecturers ofthe eminent scholars organized on topics related to the curriculum further intensify students’learning experience.

The faculty implemented the online teaching-learning process through Google Meet, Zoom andother Apps during the pandemic period of Covid -19.

The institution organizes workshops on the revised syllabus to orient the teachers and the studentsand to make them aware of the objectives of the curriculum and the crosscutting issues relevant toprofessional ethics, gender, human values, environment and sustainability into the curriculum.

Co-curricular activities like seminars, project works, group discussion, home assignments,industrial tours, study tours, field projects, literary association activities, socio-cultural activitiesand others have been carried out for effective curriculum delivery.

The institution provides revised textbooks, reference books, periodicals, internet facility, and other

ICT based teaching tools to the teachers for effectively translating the curriculum and improvingteaching practices.

IQAC takes the students' feedback on the curriculum as well as feedback on teachers’ evaluation toensure the effective delivery of the curriculum by the faculty members.

Apart from the above well-planned documented process, the institution has introduced UGC approvedCareer Oriented Certificate Courses in E-Banking, Communicative English and Human Right Education toprovide career-orientated and value-added education to students. The college library fulfils the need oftextbooks and reference books for the students as well as teachers. Literary Association of the collegeoccasionally publishes wallpapers as well as an annual magazine to inculcate the knowledge of literatureamongst the students and motivate them to be a part of these kinds of activities.

1.1.2 The institution adheres to the academic calendar including for the conduct of CIE

Response:

The institution prepares the academic calendar in consultation with IQAC for the conduct of curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities along with continuous internal evaluation (CIE) in the beginning ofthe academic year. The heads of different committees and departments prepare the action plan of theirrespective committee/department as per the schedule of the different activities referred in the academiccalendar and implement them throughout the academic year. IQAC monitors the activities of all thesecommittees and departments. During the pandemic period, the institution adhered to online academiccalendar for the conduct of curricular, co-curricular activities and continuous internal evaluation (CIE).

As 20% weightage has been given by the affiliated university to internal evaluation in the existing systemof final year of examination for all programmes, the institution strictly adheres to academic calendarprepared in consultation with IQAC for the conduct of continuous internal evaluation (CIE).

Implementation of the academic calendar for the conduct of CIE:

The Examination Committee of the institution prepares the time table for the conduct of tests,seminars, projects and assignment to evaluate the performance of students and the respectivedepartments conduct the internal evaluation as per the guidelines of the affiliated university and theExamination Committee.

Both print and web copies of university circulars of evaluation processes are circulated to thefaculty and students and the same is displayed on the college notice board.

Workshops and guest lectures on the revised syllabus, pattern of the examination and the process ofevaluation are organized through IQAC and the scheme of Lead College Activity.

The Examination committee conducts the practical examinations of the departments of Geography,Physical Education, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Computer Science and Mathematics asper the guidelines of the university.

The internal evaluation of Environmental study, a compulsory subject for the second year studentsof all programmes, is done through the project reports prepared by the students on the given topics.

The heads of each department prepare the time table of internal examination and evaluate theperformance of students in theory and practical examinations and submit the same to theExamination Committee.

The Examination committee conducted online practical examinations of the concerned departmentsduring the pandemic period of Covid -19.

Examination Committee follows the mechanism of IQAC and the guidelines of the affiliating universityfor continuous internal evaluation. IQAC conducts all academic and examination related activities andmonitors the performance and progress of students through continuous internal evaluation

The major outcomes of CIE:

Assignments and seminars instill self confidence amongst the students.

The critical thinking, scientific temper and practical knowledge of the students get developedthrough practical examinations and project works.

Seminars and paper presentations develop research culture; leadership and management skillsamongst the students.

Besides the internal evaluation, the contribution of students in co-curricular and extracurricular activitieshelps to develop their personality. The conduct of university examinations and the evaluation process isimplemented as per the norms and schedule of the affiliating University, and the institutional academiccalendar.

Being affiliated to Shivaji University, the institution follows the curriculum designed by the university inwhich the crosscutting issues relevant to professional ethics, gender, human values, environment andsustainability are addressed. Gender sensitization is an integral part of the curricula of humanities and social sciences. The gender issuessuch as ‘Violence against Women’, ‘constitutional provisions of Liberty, Equality, Justice’, Women’sMovements’, and ‘the fundamental rights of an individual are covered in Sociology, History and PoliticalScience. The issues of gender equality are best portrayed in the units of Marathi, Hindi and Englishliterature such as ‘The Female of the Species,' ‘Bade Ghar Ki Beti’, ‘Patni’, ‘A Prayer for MyDaughter’ and others. In addition to this, we practice gender equality through workshops and lectures on‘Women’s Rights and Protection Act’, ‘Gender sensitization and Gender Equality’ and others for gendersensitization. The Institute also follows the admission rules of the university and the State Government forgender equality.

Cross-Cutting Issues Relevant to Environment and Sustainability into the Curriculum:

‘Environmental study’ has been made an obligatory subject at the second year degree course of alldisciplines for preservation and conservation of natural resources. Moreover, the syllabus of Humanitiesand science, especially of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Geography, English, Marathi and Hindi reflectissues relevant to environment and sustainability. We also organize rallies, lectures and various co-curricular activities such as ‘Water Conservation Abhiyan, Fort Conservation Campaign, tree plantation,and others to address the issues concerned to environmental sustainability.

Cross-Cutting Issues Relevant to Human Values into the Curriculum:

The syllabus of language and literature deeply cultivate the minds of the students imparting values liketruth, humanity, nonviolence, tolerance, loyalty and kindness; while the curriculum of social sciencesespecially politics and sociology create rationalism, social equality and awareness regarding democraticvalues which in turn help to mould the students as a responsible citizen. In addition to this, birth and deathanniversaries of national leaders are celebrated every year to inculcate and propagate social and moralvalues amongst the students.

Cross-Cutting Issues Relevant to Professional Ethics into the Curriculum:

Professional ethics are included in the syllabus of commerce and management, especially in subjects viz.Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship, Mercantile Law, Business Environment and BusinessCommunications. In the same way, the principles of discipline, punctuality, sincerity and responsibilityare inculcated through different activities of student counseling, career guidance and placement. 2.2 Catering to Student Diversity 2.2.1 The institution assesses the learning levels of the students and organises

special Programmes for advanced learners and slow learners

Response:

Admission to all programmes are given according to the reservation policy of the Government. To assessthe learning levels of the students the college organizes special programmes for advanced learners andslow learners. After the admission process, the advanced learners and the slow learners are identified bytheir previous examination results. They distinguished on the basis of their marks. The heads of thedepartments prepare the list of slow learners and advance learners. After categorizing them as advancedlearners and slow learners; college takes innovative steps such as counselling, personal interaction with thestudent, interviewing, the quiz on general knowledge, etc.

The programme is implemented in those subjects that are considered to be difficult for an average studentas English, Economics & Accountancy, etc. As per the strategy of IQAC, the departments decide theirpolicies for the slow learners and advanced learners.

2.3.1 Student centric methods, such as experiential learning, participative learning and problemsolving methodologies are used for enhancing learning experiences

Response:

The college focuses on the betterment of the students with their overall development. The entire process isstudent-centric. All the stakeholders of the college are aware of the aspirations of students because themajority of the students come from nearby villages. Apart from the lecture method teachers are morefocused on the conceptual clarity of their subject. College Development Committee and IQAC encourageteachers to organize and workshops and FDPs related to innovative teaching methodologies.

Methods of teaching:

Experiential Learning:

In experiential learning, the departments organize study tours. The students experience it and give feedbackin the learning procedure. The college organizes workshops, seminars and guest lectures. Departmentalprojects are the example of experiential learning because the group projects give the pleasure of creativityand the new experience in research. Dept. of English organized presentation of drama and reading poetryand story narration. Student seminars, advertise presentations, book reviews, film reviews, industrial visitsgive new experiences to the students in the learning procedure. Students experience pronunciation in thelanguage lab and computer lab give them programming on Java Language and C++ and dot.net. BBAdepartment organizes Event management. Department of History organized exhibitions of HistoricalCoins, Ornaments, and Agricultural weapons.

Participative Method:

This type of learning is visible in actual learning. The students participate actively in each event.Departments organize group discussions the teachers and students participate in them. Also, the teachersand the students participate in paper presentations the seminars, poster presentations, quiz competitions,wallpaper, Annual magazine, exhibition of Historical Coins, Ornaments, and Agricultural Weapons/equipment. Students of the English department participate in the presentation of drama. Department ofMarathi celebrates ‘Marathi Rajbhasha Din’ and visits ‘Marathi Sahitya Sammelan’ Central library helpsthe teachers and students and the departmental libraries give more benefit to them. Management andcomputer information center help the students of BBA/BCA with online and offline data. In the scenario ofCOVID-19, the students are participating in online lectures.

Problem-Solving Method:

In the teaching-learning process, the students participate in the learning process and experience thosethings in the practical, fieldwork, industrial visits, etc. Faculties encourage the students to lead theirlearning towards solving of their problems and achieve satisfaction in the learning procedure. In theproblem-solving method, the college follows the personal counselling of the student. The accountancydepartment has a Question and Answer Bank. Presentation of PPTs Mock drills, Distance mode ofteaching, online lectures, Open book tests, Problem-solving in Statistics, Economics, and Geography isalso useful to the students. College organizes lectures of experts on different issues like banking,journalism, etc.

Teachers use ICT enabled tools for the effective teaching-learning process. The college has smartclassrooms. The college has Laptops and PCs which are used in ICT based teaching-learning process. Thecollege has a Wi-Fi campus. The computer lab has Wi-Fi and internal LAN. Broadband Leased LineInternet connection is highly useful to function all the above devices speedily. The Language Lab is wellequipped with ICT facilities. Students of the English department use it regularly. The faculty members arefamiliar with all the latest ICT tools. The faculty members prepare PPTs. The teachers prepare PPTs in thesubjects- English, Hindi, Marathi, History, Geography, Economics, Sociology, etc. Departments of BBA,BCA also prepare the PPTs. Faculties of Science stream use the PPTs in the teaching procedure. Some ofthe faculty members put their videos on the ‘YouTube channel’. Faculties in English, Geography, History,etc. have videos in their subjects. Dr. S. P. Hudale has web blogs in Physical Geography and HumanGeography. Teachers have their YouTube links. Google class/ Google Meet/Zoom are the means ofcommunication for online lectures.

All the departments use ICT tools to simplify the syllabus in a more meaningful way. Departments ofEnglish, Hindi and Marathi regularly use film screening of the adapted novels and dramas or short stories.Department of English, Geography, BBA, BCA, etc. are using projectors in their teaching-learningprocess. Language lab is useful in the enhancement of pronunciation of words. It can enhance thecommunication skills of the students. Commerce and Social Sciences departments effectively use ICTtools like videos for theory teaching and for practical exposure. Recently one of the faculty members Dr.M. V. Londhe worked as a Resource Person in a National Faculty Development Programme with the topic-"Use of ICT Tools in Effective Teaching Learning." Dr. S. P. Hudale worked as Resource Person in theonline National FDP on "The Challenges of the Education System during these Pandemic Days."

E-resources are provided free of cost. The library has the software Slim-21. The teachers use social mediaskillfully. They are using WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc. for giving some information in the bunchand displaying photographs. Department of English uses YouTube for receiving the knowledge of novelslike Five Point Someone and the film 3 Idiots.

The institution encourages teachers to attend seminars workshops and training programmers related to the

Evaluation is the most important part of the teaching-learning process. IQAC of the college communicateswith the heads of the departments and the examination committee. Examination Committee frames theinternal evaluation system. The college decides the time planning according to the internal examinationsand university examinations. The institutional evaluation system is decentralized in order to make it more

transparent and objective.

A continuous Internal Evaluation system is used for the internal assessment of the students. Theexamination committee displays the notices on the college notice boards. The timetable is communicatedin advance on the notice board. The information is also communicated on the WhatsApp groups of theclasses and the departments. The college takes extra effort for slow learners where they are assessed bydifferent methods. The examination committee monitors and conducts internal examinations in the college.All the teachers submit the question papers with model answers to the examination committee. Dept. ofEnglish, Hindi, Marathi, Economics, Geography, History, Accountancy and Industrial Management assignthe project work and evaluate the learning level of the students.

The department organizes unit tests, surprise tests, open-book tests, etc. The issues about question papersand answer books are discussed with them. The answer books are shown on the demand of the students andguided them for their better performance in the forthcoming examinations. Teachers provide modelanswers. The best answers by the students are shown to the other students.

Continuous Internal Evaluation is made by the question-answer method. The principal of the collegesurveys the internal evaluation in the departmental meetings. The principal gives suggestions to theconcerned teachers. Due to this process, the students come to know about their strengths and their progressin their studies. The concerned teachers guide them to overcome their problems.

Counselling and motivation inspire the students to face university examinations. CIE helps them for theirbetter performance in university examinations.

The college has IQAC which pays attention on student-centric activities. It interacts with the examinationcommittee. The Academic Calendar is displayed on the college notice board for all stakeholders. In thewelcome programme of the students the principal of the college briefs about the examination-evaluationsystem and how the Course Outcomes and the Programme Outcomes can be attained.

The department organizes unit tests, surprise tests, open-book tests, etc. The issues about question papersand answer books are discussed with them. The answer books are shown on the demand of the students andguided them for their better performance in the forthcoming examinations. The institution providesrelevant seat arrangements for handicapped students and gives extra time in the examination as peruniversity rules.

All examination-related grievances are addressed to the committee where the principal is the chairperson.Internal supervisors and the internal flying squad are deputed to conduct the examination smoothly. Thediscipline committee plays a role as an internal flying squad. If any grievance occurs, the student needs toapply to the examination committee. At the initial level, the committee discusses with the concernedteacher and solves the issue at the primary level. The marks of the internal examination are displayed onthe notice boards of the departments. We accept a zero-tolerance policy for the malpractices conducted bythe students. As it is the internal evaluation or assessment the students cooperate with the teachers. Internalassessment is carried out while teaching with the question-answer method.

The college has mechanism to deal with examination related grievances. The institution follows the rulesand regulations of Board of Examination, Shivaji University, Kolhapur. This board has developed amechanism to deal with examination related grievances as per the Maharashtra Public Universities Act,2016.

University has given assessment of B.A.I, B.Com.I, B.Sc.I, B.B.A.I, B.C.A.I to the CAP of the college.Grievances related to these examinations observed as per university guidelines under the supervision of theprincipal. displayed on website and communicated to teachers and students.

The institution offers Course Outcomes and Programme Outcomes in the teaching-learning process.College Development Committee keenly observes the implementation of COs and POCs. CDC focuses onthe creativity and productivity of the students. IQAC monitors the courses offered and the add-on coursesoffered. The institution pays attention to develop the student as a responsible Indian citizen.

In the preparation process of these outcomes, the institution takes reviews on the points with allstakeholders. The output of the discussion was displayed at the eyesight of the teachers and students.Programme Outcomes and Course Outcomes are displayed on college website. The college displays theVision, Mission and .Objectives on the flex board. Through annual report the college states the mission andobjectives of all the departments. Learning outcomes is an integral part of college vision, mission, and objectives. The institution usesvarious means of communication to communicate such as college prospectus, Principal’s address to thestudents and parents, alumni meets motivation in classroom by concern staff. The outcomes alsoprominently featured on college boards, college magazine and other publications brought duringconferences and seminars. One of the faculties has actively participated in FDP on Use of ICT tools inteaching learning.

The teachers are the members of Board of studies. They take initiatives in syllabus making in ShivajiUniversity. Departments organize workshops on revised syllabus. Additionally, teachers attend workshopson revised syllabus organized in different colleges, organized by Shivaji University. Teachers of eachdepartment interact with the students about what they are supposed get at the end of each programme. TheProgramme Outcomes of all subjects are clearly known to the students. IQAC monitors the overall development of the students. The College Development committee emphasizesthe output of the students. The vision, mission and objectives of the college make the students visionary forthe holistic development of students. In the year 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, the college has theprogrammes as B.A., B.Com., B.B.A., B.C.A, onwards the added the programmes as M.Com., and B.Sc.The college has been working continuously on the attainment of these outcomes. The systematic academicjourney is elaborated to the students in the first year of the student. In the welcome function, the principaladdresses the students and states the motto of their academic journey to the students. In order to focus onOutcomes, the students are categorized as slow learners and advanced learners on the basis of their entry-level marks.

The university authorities like the Board of Examination, faculty, Board of Studies convey the norms andthe process for evaluation of students in different subjects of different classes. These are conveyed to theaffiliated colleges on the university website. The Management of the college and the Principal of thecollege monitor the implementation of syllabi. The process of the learners is provided by the universityauthorities from time to time.

The Course Outcomes, Programme Outcomes, and Programme Specific Outcomes are displayed on thecollege website. Close awareness of cross-cutting issues, basic conceptual clarity, life skills, practicalexposure and their behavioral change are a few of the parameters to recognize or evaluate the attainment oftheir courses. CIE, PPTs, MCQs, Seminars, Unit tests, Project work, etc. are helping to evaluate thelearning outcomes. The college offers subject-related and value-added courses to inculcate the actualoutcomes at the end of the course. UGC sponsored the ‘Human Rights Course’ which helped the collegeto evaluate the attainment of the outcome.

To measure the Programme Outcome the college uses both academic and non-academic performances ofthe students. The performance of the students in the internal and external examinations, in-class activities,in departmental activities conveys Programme Specific Outcomes. Students are motivated and encouragedto participate in competitions, seminars, and research competitions like Avishakar. Performance of thestudents within and outside of the college in various academic events provides another index of thelearning levels. Course Outcomes of the students are measured through the performance of the students inlearning procedures in the classroom. Performance in internal evaluation and external evaluation conveysthe graph of merit of the Course Outcomes. The college measures the students continuously on theirregularity, their receptiveness, participation in class discussions, their answers to the questions asked in theclassroom by the concerned teacher, their punctuality and overall quality of their conduct.

The institution has created an ecosystem for innovations through various committees and associations forthe creation and transfer of knowledge to benefit every stakeholder of the institution. IQAC and theResearch Committee of the institution take initiatives to enhance Research culture and create an ecosystemfor innovation in research, co-curricular and extracurricular activities. As a result of this 10 faculties of thisinstitution are with Ph. D. degree, 03 faculties have registered for Ph.D., 06 faculties are recognized asresearch guides of the affiliating university, two minor research projects sanctioned and funded by UGChave been completed and three research projects are ongoing. The faculty and students are also encouragedto publish their research articles in journals/souvenirs /proceedings and to participate in conferences,workshops, research orientation programmes and faculty development programmes to enhance researchculture. During the last five years, 84 research papers have been published in UGC recognized / PeerReviewed Journals, 56 Papers/ chapters in books have been published in edited books and conferenceproceedings at National/International levels.

Walwa Taluka Education Society established in 1945 with the motto “Good for many, prosperity formany” started this institution in 1970 for providing higher education in Walwa Taluka. The institution hasthe following infrastructural and physical facilities for the teaching-learning process:

The institution has an annual maintenance contract (AMC) for computer labs, electronic equipment,the college website, Generator backup system, CCTV, Water Tanks, Electric Motors and R.O.system with the respective agencies.

Maintenance of furniture and fixtures is done on regular basis.

Maintenance of electrical equipment is regularly done through service agencies on a visit on-callbasis.

The cleaning and the maintenance of the classrooms and library are done by the AMC and non-teaching staff.

The security system of the institution is maintained by the security guards.

The meeting of the college student council is conducted at the start of every academic year todiscuss the issues of the students. The student council organized Teacher’s day on 5th Sept. on thebirth anniversary of S. Radhakrishnan. Students enjoyed the teaching activity on this occasion. Inthe 2019-20 students council organized traditional day. Students participated with traditionaloutfits. They represented historical periods, cultural representative’s religious celebrations, etc.

Student council supported in prize distribution ceremony. It supports the overall development of thecollege. This council supported the ‘Gymkhana’ of the college. College celebrated GymkhanaDay. The student council helped in the organization of Gymkhana day. The college felicitated thesportspersons. The student council provided possible energy for a successful presentation.

Co-curricular and extracurricular activities

There are specific committees such as NSS, cultural activities, Excursion, etc. in which not only thestudent's council but the majority of the students are involved and actively participated. Studentcouncil is included in the co-curricular activities.

National Service Scheme is playing a vital role in the development of the students. The activitiesorganized by the college are supported by the student council.

A special camp in the adopted village is also supported by the student council. NSS students areparticipating in different camps, as district camp, university camp, state-level camp, adventurecamp, Avhan camp, etc.

The institution has a registered Alumni Association. The Alumni Association contributessignificantly to the development of the institution through financial and non-financial supportduring the last five years.

The institution organizes one alumni’s meet in a year, the local and outsider alumni take initiativefor arranging such meetings. The Alumni of college are placed in industries, education, business,civil services, professional fields and media industry. Our teachers Alumni members play a key rolein building this group for the development of the college and works for the overall development ofstudents. Our Alumni members are active members in IQAC, CDC, and NSS, etc. The financial contributionof the Alumni association for the development of the college is very notable. Alumni of the History department donated books of Rs. 2100 to the departmental library.

Walwa Taluka Education Society, Islampur was established at Islampur with a motive to qualityupgradation of higher education and achievement of community and social development through liberaland efficient education. Yashwantrao Chavan College, Islampur has been established by the managementof Walwa Taluka Education Society, Islampur in 1970 for rendering service in the field of education. Itwas founded in pursuit of its motto ‘Bahujan Hitaya Bahujan Sukhaya’ (for good of many, for theprosperity of many). The institution works with the vision of overall personality development of thestudent and cultivation of values like national integration, patriotism, equality, humanism, socialism,secularism and peace. Aiming these values into mind students are shaped to meet the challenges of thecurrent century.

The institution is located at Taluka place and easily accessible by transport facility to students ofsurrounding rural area. The college organizes various activities to make students competent in variousfields of life. Yes, the institution follows the principle of decentralization and participative management to carry outvarious institutional practices. Governing Council while taking decisions and framing policies considerother stakeholders’ views and implement the same. Periodical meetings take place among members ofGoverning Council, LMC/CDC and IQAC. Discussion is made on issues related to academic,administrative and Infrastructure development. Member of management also attend functions of theinstitution such as Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony, Seminars and other important events organized bythe institution.

Case Study: Organization of National Conference

Context:

In the year 2016-2017 the institution organized UGC sponsored Two Day National Conference inCollaborations with Shri S. D. Patil Charitable Trust, Islampur and Senior College Physical EducationTeachers Association on ‘Fitness and Wellness of People through Sports and Games’. The main aim ofthe conference was to provide a platform for the intellectuals, experts, teachers, researchers and scholars todiscuss the same. This is a case study of decentralization and participative management.

Practice:

In order to make the conference successful, various committees were formed for the decentralization ofresponsibilities. The organizing committee and principal assigned responsibilities to committees. Whiledistributing responsibilities experience and interest of faculties were taken into consideration. The principaland organizing committee took time to time cognizance of the assigned responsibilities of variouscommittees. Thus through the formation of Organizing, Advisory, Registration, Feedback and Hospitalitycommittees and under the monitoring of IQAC conference was planned.

Impact:

The Two Day National Conference was arranged in five sessions.146 Delegates participated and 40research papers were presented. For this conference, Dr. Appanna M. Gasti, Co-ordinator, Department ofStudies and Research in Physical Education and Yoga, Kuvempu University, Shimoga, Karnataka waspresent as a chief guest. In his keynote address, he focused on the importance of health awareness, fitness,wellness, ethics and values in sports and games. The resource person Dr. Deepak Patil-Dange delivered hisspeech on ‘Body Language and Sport Psychology’. The next session carried forward with the researchpaper reading and twenty-five research papers were presented in two sessions. The final plenary sessionwas attended by Dr. B. N. Ulpe and chaired by Dr. Savita Bhosale. For the Valedictory function, the chief

Case study: Inter-zonal Badminton (Men and Women) tournament

Context:

Effective implementation of the strategic plan can best be observed through the organization of inter-zonalBadminton tournament for Men and Women. The institution has a good sports culture and a good trackrecord of sports merit. The institution has a good and sound infrastructural facility of Indoor Sports Hall toconduct indoor sports and games. The plan to conduct this tournament was discussed in CollegeDevelopment Committee and in IQAC. The perspective plan of the tournament was prepared to send toShivaji University, Kolhapur.

Practice:

The University sanctioned the institution as the host of this tournament. In order to make tournamentssuccessful, the institution established- five committees- The organizing committee, the Protest Committee,the Eligibility Committee, Technical Committee and Accommodation Committee. Through thesecommittees the responsibilities were decentralized. The principal and organizing committee took time totime cognizance of the assigned responsibilities of various committees. Thus through the formation ofvarious committees, the tournament was planned.

Impact:

The two-day Inter-zonal Badminton (Men and Women) tournament was arranged in five sessions. Theteams were selected from Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts. 12 teams participated and they weredivided into three draws (pools). For the transparent mechanism of the organization, these draws wereapparently made before the 12 team managers. The qualified umpires were appointed for this tournament.The event was inaugurated by Mr. Krishnat Pingale, Dy. SP Islampur. In his keynote address, he focusedon the importance of sports in life and opportunities of career thereof created from sports and games. He

As per university and State government guidelines, the various statutory and non-statutory committees areestablished for the smooth, transparent and effective administration of the institution. These committeeswork for the overall development of the students. Also, they contribute to the decentralization ofgovernance.

1. Walwa Taluka Education Society:

Being the top-notch body it comprises Governing Body, Life Members and Managing Council. It decidespolicies related to academic and administrative business.

2. CDC/ LMC:

College Development Committee/ Local Management Committee is established as per the existingMaharashtra Public Universities Act. CDC prepares an overall comprehensive development plan of thecollege regarding academic, administrative and infrastructural growth and suggests particularrecommendations to the Management. It prepares an annual financial budget and institution developmentplan related to academic, administrative and infrastructure development.

Service rules, recruitment and promotional policies for teaching and non-teaching staff are as per the UGCnorms, regulations of existing Maharashtra Universities Act and Maharashtra Civil Service Act 2016respectively and statutory norms of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. CDC monitors these rules and policies.

3. IQAC:

Being the pool of all activities of the institution, IQAC looks after all businesses of the institution. It plansguides and monitors the quality sustenance and enhancement of the institution. Especially it heeds on the

4. Grievance Redressal Mechanism:

For the grievance redressal mechanism, the college has a grievance redressal committee. A grievanceredressal committee handles the grievances amongst the students, stakeholders, teaching and non-teachingstaff. The students can make their suggestions and grievances with the help of a suggestion box. Thesegrievances are resolved by the grievance redressal committee. The students can represent their problemsthrough their class representatives of the Student council and the grievance redressal committee helps themfor resolution as early as possible. Complaints of the staff members are resolved through a grievanceredressal committee.

5. Internal Complaint Committee:

ICC is established as per government norms and it deals with the matters of all students of any sex. It looksinto the matters related to sexual harassment in the case of both the students and staff.

6. Right to Information:

The institution has a committee which deals with the Right to formation act. The Honorary secretary,principal and office superintendent deal with academic, administrative and financial issues of information.

7. Anti-Ragging Committee:

6.3 Faculty Empowerment Strategies 6.3.1 The institution has effective welfare measures for teaching and non-teaching staff

The welfare measures of our institution work on three parameters. Teaching and non-teaching staff ishelped with – health, financial needs and moral support.

Welfare schemes for teaching staff:

S. D. Patil Cooperative Credit Society, Islampur:

The credit society provides two types of loans.

1. Member Loan

2. Emergency Loan.

These loans are availed with an interest rate of 10.50%. The loan is sanctioned within 24 hours of the loanapplication. Additionally, a good interest rate (7% to 11%) is provided on deposits.

Health care camp is organized by the management through S. D. Patil College of Pharmacy for allteaching staff.

Health checkup facility is available through the Teacher Benevolent Fund (TBF- Teachers’Benevolent Fund- a fund generated by the teacher’s organization of Shivaji University, Kolhapur).TBF also provides financial assistance of rupees fifty thousand to the nominees of a faculty afterhis/her demise. A system for regular assessment of teaching and non-teaching staff is in place.

For Teaching Staff:

The institution follows the Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) prescribed by the UGC. Thissystem was introduced by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur vide letter no. 12028 dated 1st March 2011 asper UGC notification of 30th June 2010 and approved by the government of Maharashtra state vide G. R.dated 15th February 2011. The format of PBAS comprises three categories.

Category – I: Teaching, Learning and Evaluation Related Activities

Category- II: Professional Development, Co-curricular and Extension Activities

Category- III: Research and Academic Contributions

The data considered for the preparation of PBAS is based on an academic diary, prepared and prescribedby Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It aids to maintain the day-by-day academic record of an individualfaculty. It includes the record of individual timetable, workload, annual teaching plan of the subject taught,schedule of academic terms, class and paper wise teaching/practical report, lectures or other teaching dutiesin excess of UGC norms, internal and university examinations related work, co-curricular, extension andprofessional development related activities, participation in seminars and conferences, publication ofresearch articles, research guidance, etc. It also records the causal leaves, medical leaves, duty leaves,participation in refresher courses, orientation programmes, short-term courses, etc.

Details in the diary are verified and signed by the concerned head of the department and principal at theend of the month. With help of the academic diary, PBAS are prepared at the end of the academic year.The performance of the PBAS is evaluated by the concerning committee and prepares the report of theindividual teachers and submits to the principal. The API score of a teacher is considered for promotion/placement. The scrutiny/ screening committee of the university validates the API score at the time ofplacement.

For Non-teaching staff

Standard Code Rule and Maharashtra Civil Services Act 2016 are followed for service rules, recruitmentand promotional policies of non-teaching staff. The institution follows the Self-Assessment System for theevaluation of non-teaching staff. Their performance is evaluated through confidential reports (CR) whichare divided into three parts- Self Assessment, General Ability and Character and Remarks of the reviewingauthority. The verification of these points is verified with physical fitness, technical ability, character,obedience, punctuality, etc. The confidential report is submitted to the principal after remarks concerningauthority.

6.4.3 Institutional strategies for mobilisation of funds and the optimal utilisation of resources

Response:

Strategies for mobilization of funds:

The institution is fully aided by the Government of Maharashtra and comes under sections 2(f) and12B of the UGC act, 1956. Therefore it receives grants from various schemes of UGC. Theinstitution follows the regulations of Shivaji University in generating the funds. It follows the rulesof collecting tuition fees decided by the university. The funds are generated also from prospectussales, admission fees for aided and non-aided courses. The institution generates the fund from thefees of certificate courses and value-added courses. The fee structure of such courses is suggestedby LMC/CDC.

The UGC Correspondence and Planning Committee of the institution work in correspondence withIQAC and notify concerned faculties about different funding schemes of UGC. They also help inmaking and forwarding proposals to the UGC.

The Knowledge Resource and Research Committee guides and assists the faculties to apply forfunds for research projects, workshops and conferences from various funding agencies.

Practice I : Avishkar Orientation Programme

Prof. Dr. P. S. Patil inaugurated the Programme. In his keynote address, he gave detailed information ondifferent fields of research for the students and faculty.

Practice II : Organization of Seminar/Workshop and Conference:

In the year 2016-2017, the institution organized UGC sponsored Two Day National Conference incollaboration with Shri S. D. Patil Charitable Trust, Islampur and Senior College Physical EducationTeachers Association on ‘Fitness and Wellness of People through Sports and Games’. For thisconference, Dr. Appanna M. Gasti, Co-ordinator, Department of Studies and Research in PhysicalEducation and Yoga, Kuvempu University, Shimoga, Karnataka was present as a chief guest. The TwoDay National Conference was arranged in five sessions. 146 Delegates have participated and 40 researchpapers were presented.

IQAC and Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) jointly organized a state-level workshop on DomesticViolence in the year 2019-20. The chief guest of the workshop was Dr. Varsha Patil, who guided theparticipants to prohibit domestic violence through social and legal ways. The speaker of the secondsession, Mrs. Ranjana Pawal analyzed the nature of domestic violence with examples. 88 participants werepresent.

In the year 2020-2021, Institution organized webinars and online seminars. The department of B.B.A. andB.C.A. organized an online seminar on ‘Career Opportunities for Management and Computer students’.Dr. Rajesh Kante, Director, Bharti Vidyapeeth's Yashwantrao Mohite Institute, Karad was the speaker. TheBCA dept. conducted a webinar on ‘Interview Skills and Resume Writing’. Prof Pandurang Patil was the

The institution initiates the promotion of gender equity through a curriculum of all existing programmesapproved by the affiliating university. We also organize various co-curricular and extracurricular activitiesto address the issues concerned to gender equity.

Gender equity and sensitization in the curriculum:

Institution strongly handles the issues related to gender equity and sensitization as reflected in thecurriculum of humanities, social sciences and Commerce and Management. Anti-Ragging Committee formed for prevention and prohibition of ragging helps for safety andsecurity of students.

The patrolling Van of local police called ‘Nirbhaya Pathak’ frequently visits the campus for theprevention of offensive activities.

Counseling

The Institution has a special committee for counseling of the students known as ICC. This committeeprovides proper counseling to students after receiving complaints from them and takes action to solvecomplaints. Besides, the institution has a Mentor-Mentee scheme to solve problems concerned with genderequity and sensitization. In this scheme, the mentor personally supervises each student and providescounseling whenever necessary to their mentees.

The college has a green campus. It gives top priority to keep the campus clean and eco-friendly.

Solid waste management –

The institution practices the segregation of Solid Waste and its management in the campus. The collectedwaste is segregated at the source of the generation.

The waste bins are placed separately for dry and wet waste wherever necessary. The Blue colordustbins are kept for dry waste and green color dustbins are used for wet waste. Non-decomposedwaste is handed over to municipal waste collection agency for further treatment. The institution hascorrespondence with Urun-Islampur Municipality for collection and waste management.

The wet waste is collected and dumped in the biogas plant of the institution to convert waste toEnergy. The organic dry waste and food waste from the college hostel and canteen are convertedinto manure in compost pits which are used as an organic fertilizer for the garden.

Old newspapers and raw papers material are sold out. The college has set up a sanitary napkinvending machine with a destroyer in the girls’ common room to keep the hygiene of the washroomused by the girl students.

Liquid waste Management

Liquid waste from RO water filter, college canteen, toilet, etc. let out through water pipeline whichis attached to underground drainage water pipeline of Islampur Municipality.

Water discharged through a drinking water tank is used for plants and trees in premises.

The institution has collaboration with Trimurti Plumbing, Kapuskhed for the maintenance ofplumbing.

E-waste management

The institution has AMC with Abhiraj Computers, Islampur to repair electronics equipments and tomanage e-waste.

Non-working computers, monitors, printers, computer equipments and batteries, etc. are dispatchedas scrap materials to Abhiraj Computers, Islampur.

Damaged and non-working parts of computers have been displayed in the computer lab in order tohelp students to realize the internal structure of computers and other devices.

Waste recycling system

The institution has a small compost plant. It converts organic waste into bio-fertilizer by decomposingorganic materials. After the compost is ready, it is used for plants in campus.

Hazardous chemicals and radioactive waste management:

Hazardous Chemicals are kept separately in the storeroom away from the reach of students. The lab incharge takes care of the hazardous chemicals. Safety norms in the laboratory are strictly followed. Studentsare made aware of the hazardous chemicals and safety aspects before utilizing the chemicals.

The institution is a role model of best governance and democracy. Human values, rights, duties andresponsibilities of citizens and professional ethics as reflected in the constitution are promoted by theinstitution through following curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities:

The preamble of the constitution is displayed at the entrance of the college and it is clearly visible.

The fundamental rights, citizen charter, National Anthem, etc. are displayed in the campus.

National Anthem is broadcasted in the campus that reflects the strong attachment of the studentsand employees towards nationalism.

Response:

1) Title: Inter-State Hockey Tournament

Objectives

1. To promote and conserve indigenous game Hockey in a semi-urban area.

2. To inculcate the spirit of nationalism among the students through Hockey sports activity.

3. To develop the leadership skills and personality of students.

4. To enhance the sense of Achievement, National pride and Patriotism through excellence in Hockey.

5. To develop competitive spirit, good sportsmanship and good citizenship among students in semi-urban areas.

6. To provide career opportunities through the national game Hockey.

The Context:

We believe in the principle that the sound mind dwells in a sound body. To implement this principle, theinstitution has promoted sports activities especially Hockey in rural and semi-urban areas. The institutionhas a long tradition of national game hockey and it has been organizing inter-state hockey tournaments forthe last 33 years.

The main motive behind the development of this sports activity Hockey is to retain talent in different sportsactivities among the rural students. Especially among the economically and socially backward classes asWalwa Taluka Education Society has been working for socially and economically weaker of the society inthe field of sports and education. It is observed that sports and games remain the monopoly of the urbanpopulation, where better awareness, sports equipments, training, infrastructure and other facilities areavailable. So it is felt that there is a need to create awareness in rural areas.

The Practice :

As the motto of the institution is ‘Education for the welfare and betterment of the mass’, the inter-statehockey tournament has been practiced for the last 33 years to tap the hidden talents of students from ruralbackgrounds. This practice encourages the students to participate in the national game, hockey. It alsoprovides the opportunity to play with sportspersons in other states having a national background in hockey.The institution organizes Inter-State Hockey Tournament in collaborations with S. D. Patil CharitableTrust, Islampur. The tournament has been organized for four days every year. The teams from Nanded,Hubli, Belgaum, Mumbai, Nashik, Gadag, Kolhapur, etc are invited to participate in the tournament.Experts in Hockey are invited for the training and guidance for the players. The institution invites state-level qualified umpires for this inter-state tournament. This tournament creates a sporting environment thatattracts the children, adults and even senior citizens of the town and nearby villages. This sportsenvironment motivates the young generation to participate in this national game. The institution hassucceeded in cherishing the national game hockey by organizing such inter-state hockey tournaments.

The institution provides adequate infrastructural facilities to players. The institution has a verylarge and spacious hockey playground and this is a unique facility in the town.

The institution provides all required sports material to hockey players such as Hockey sticks, Balls,Studs, Sin-guards, Tracksuits, Sport-kits, Goal Keeper Kits, etc.

Refreshment, meal, accommodation, etc are provided to players during their practice andtournament period.

The best players are felicitated for their participation and achievements, with cash prizes,certificates, tracksuits, etc.

Organized Zonal and Inter-zonal Hockey tournaments and training camps to strengthen the practiceof inter-state hockey tournaments.

Evidence of Success

The institution has successfully implemented this practice for the last 33 years. The institution organizesthis tournament in collaboration with S. D. Patil Charitable Trust, Islampur every year on the BirthAnniversary (23rd January) of the founder of the institution, who had initiated this practice. VariousHockey teams from Nanded, Hubli, Belgaum, Mumbai, Nashik, Gadag, Kolhapur, etc. participates in thistournament.

The inter-state hockey tournament encourages the students of this institution to participating in sportsactivities, especially in hockey. The Director of Physical Education, then, gives practice and training to theinterested students. As a result of this, the institution participated and achieved great success in Zonal, Inter-Zonal and West-Zone Inter-University hockey tournaments. The major achievement of this practice is thatnumber of hockey players is recruited in police and defense services and other government services due totheir performance in hockey.

Problems encountered and resources required:

It is a challenge to the institution to prepare girl students to participate in Hockey sports events dueto the unwillingness of parents and the underdeveloped sports culture for girls.

The institution does not receive financial assistance from the university or the government toorganize this practice. Hence, it becomes very difficult to continue this practice. However, theinstitution manages the necessary financial provision with support from the management.

The percentage of organization of this practice is very low at tehsil, district and regional levels. Sothe students get poor access to participate in this practice.

It is a challenge to maintain a hockey playground due to a lack of funds.

To continue this practice in a better way, the institution requires financial assistance for theconstruction of an audience gallery, maintenance of playground and to purchase sports equipments.

The institution inculcates various skills among students and encourages them to expose their hidden talent,creativity, innovative skills, managerial skills, leadership qualities, communication skills, etc. In order tofulfill these objectives, the institution helps, guides and motivates students through Yashorang-TheManagement Event. Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization have created drastic changes in thecorporate world. In order to meet the basic needs of the corporate world, the institution provides a platformfor collegiate and intercollegiate students and prepares them for the corporate world.

This practice comprises various competitions and activities such as ad-making, role play, posterpresentation, paper presentation, programming skills, salesmanship, debating, group discussion, elocution,business quiz, best persona, etc.

The practice

The institution promotes and motivates students to organize and participate in managementevent-‘YASHORANG’. In this event, various competitions such as Ad-making, Roleplay, Posterpresentation, Paper presentation, programming skill, Salesmanship, etc. are conducted by the institution.

Ad-Making is a competition of creating and presenting an advertisement on a product or service for T.V.and Radio. A team consisting of 5 to 7 members participates in this competition and represents theirinstitution. The presentation time of 10 minutes is allocated for television ads and 3 minutes for radio ads.The students are asked to select the product from the given list.

Paper-Presentation is a research competition. It creates interest of research among students. For thiscompetition, each team consisting of two members presents their papers on the topics such as “RecentTrends in Management, Human Resource Management, Role of Marketing in the Development ofBusiness, Financial Management Functions, Business Plan, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), RecentDevelopment in IT, Cloud Competing, Artificial Intelligence, Android Mobile Technology”, etc. The timegiven for paper presentation is 15 minutes (10 minutes for presentation, 2 minutes for the conclusion and 3minutes for question and answers from judges and audience).

Like group activities, individual competitions such as Best Persona (Personality Competition), Elocutioncompetition, Salesmanship, etc. are organized in this Management Event- YASHORANG. In theseindividual competitions, participants are asked to submit the required documents in advance. Thecompetition, Best Persona (Personality Competition) provides a platform to show their personality traits,which are checked through the question–answering, creative activity, self-presentation, etc. For elocutioncompetition and salesmanship, a specific time limit is given to participants for the presentation of theirskills.

Pro- Skill is an aptitude and error debugging competition to test skills in computer programming. For thiscompetition, each team consists of 2 members who present programming skills in a given time limit.

Roleplay is a competition of performing a role related to given topics dealing with issues related tobusiness and management. One team consists of 3 to 6 participants. 10 minutes time is allowed to performa role.

Students from other college are invited to participate in the Management event-YASHORANG. This eventprovides a platform to the students to perform their creative ideas through the presentation. It helpsstudents to develop their soft skills and to prove their talent.

Evidence of success

The institution encourages the students to participate in the management event- YASHORANG to developtheir soft skills and to expose their hidden talent. EXCLUSIVE INDOOR SPORTS FACILITIES

Introduction

The institution is robustly focusing on upgradation of the physical and mental health of players whichresults in the development of dynamic personalities. Sports activities and achievements have helped manyindividuals to secure better job opportunities. Yashwantrao Chavan Mahavidyalaya is the only institutionin the town that provides indoor sports facilities to students, teaching staff and people in the town. Theinstitution has a good track record of sports culture.

The proposal of an indoor sports hall was sent to UGC and was approved in 2011. The construction of anindoor sports hall was initiated in 2013 and construction was completed in April 2015. UGC grant forindoor sports hall was received in 2 installments (Rs.35 lakh and Rs.28lakhs). The total cost of the indoorsports hall was Rs. 96, 89,261 out of which UGC share was Rs. 63 lakh and management share was Rs.33,89,261. Additional Rs.12 lakhs has been spent by the institution for the facility of teak wooden flooring.The institution is the second institution in Shivaji University to provide such a wooden flooring facility tosportspersons. The built-up area of the hall is 733.33 square meters. After the completion of the indoorsports hall, it was made available to use for students, teaching staff and people in the town to enjoy variousindoor sports activities such as table tennis, badminton, chess, carom and multiple 11 station gymnasiumactivities.

Available Facilities

1) Adequate lighting system – This facility provides adequate steady light at all times, so players can play

even late in the evening and in gloomy weather. Players will never be bothered by blinding sunlight forglare.

2) Good playing conditions – Indoor sports hall provides good playing conditions by ensuring well-maintained sports surface, state-of-the-art equipments and a stimulating environment that results in higherperformance and personal satisfaction.

3) Teak Wooden Flooring – Wooden flooring provides shock absorption which is crucial when asportsperson impacts a surface and wooden surfaces deliver a uniform level playing surface for sportsmen.

4) Different amenities - Convenient washrooms, lockers, changing rooms, drinking water, seatingarrangement, etc. are provided for various recreational after-game and practice sessions.

Beneficiaries –

Indoor Sports Facilities are used by the students and staff of the institution, students and staff of otherinstitutions run by the management and professionals in the town. This facility is made available withminimum charges to all the beneficiaries except students and staff of the college.

Importance of indoor sports facilities

1. Functional throughout year

Indoor sports hall offer more efficient sports playing solutions. People don't have to skip games because ofthe weather and can play comfortably in a safe climate-controlled environment. Indoor sports facilitiesallow sports to be played all year round, regardless of the weather conditions such as heavy rain, highwinds, extreme temperature, etc.

2. Safe and Comfortable Facility

The facility of Indoor sports hall is safe and comfortable to play indoor games. It provides a climate-controlled environment with superior playing conditions and various useful amenities. There is no risk ofslipping or getting injured while playing. Quality wooden flooring has excellent shock absorption andmeets all the standards of traction, rotation, surface abrasion and stability.

3. Beneficial to all age group

The indoor sports facility is beneficial to all age groups and to all sports enthusiasts. It helps people tosocialize and creates a positive impact on the development of sports.

Indoor Sports Activities -

Playing sport is great to stay fit and healthy, mingle with people and have lots of fun. However, studentsneed to practice regularly and in order to be motivated to practice regularly, they need to fully enjoy theexperience. To meet this need of students, the institution has provided different indoor sports activities andgames. All these activities are conducted according to batch and scheduled timetables.

5. CONCLUSION

Additional Information :

Yashwantrao Chavan Mahavidyalaya, Islampur established in the year 1970, and the year 2020-21 is the‘Golden Jubilee’ year of the college, but due to the pandemic situation of COVD -19 the management decidesthat the Golden Jubilee Year would be celebrated after the slumps the pandemic situation through variousprogrammes. Since the establishment of the college, it has been rendering quality education to society. Today,the college has 14 UG and 1 PG course and 7 of them are self-financed courses. Apart from these, 10certificate and value-added courses were provided to the students to make them ethical persons. The collegealways makes sincere efforts in the teaching-learning and evaluation process and try to groom our students asgood human being to face the challenges of life. In the year 2021, the student strength of the college is 1315among them 396 girl students and 919 are male students. There are two girls’ colleges in the town, still, thestrength of the girl students is quite decent and college provides all the safety measures to the girl students. Inthe concern to the merit scholarship, our college always show good performance, moreover, the collegereceived a certificate of merit from Shivaji University, Kolhapur for securing the first rank in faculty of arts andfine arts in Shivaji University Merit Scholarship Scheme for the year 2018-19. During the last five years, TheCollege received noteworthy awards, recognitions and appreciation from various bodies. The college has twoNSS units with a strong link with neighbourhood community. The college is surging ahead in the right directionunder the able Management who takes sample efforts to fulfil short term as well as long term goals throughpromoting courses and establishing advanced infrastructure.

Concluding Remarks :

As per the motto ‘Bahujan Hitaya, Bahujan Sukhaya’, the college imparts liberal and efficient education towelfare and betterment of the mass and to cultivates values like national integration, patriotism, equality,humanism, socialism, secularism and peace. Our students always engaged in experiential learning throughpractical, project works and fieldwork in subjects like Geography, Commerce, Economics and the courses likeB. Sc. BBA and BCA. The college authorities and the IQAC ensure effective curriculum delivery through awell-planned and documented process and adheres to the academic calendar for the conduct of CIE.

Our faculties deal with the learning outcomes to convert the knowledge of the students into success. In thecollege, 8 faculty members have been recognized as a research guide for the M. Phil. and Ph. D. and 11students are pursuing their Ph. D. under these guides. The cultural unit of the college has also been one of theactive units and timely achieved success in various cultural activities. The green campus is a pride of ourcollege, the various botanical and medicinal plants are on the campus.

Thus, the core values of NAAC are reflected in various functions of the institution. The college has tried its bestto impart quality education in order to uplift the students from the rural area. The management, the principal,the teaching and non-teaching staff and students will continue to work cohesively to develop the full potentialof the college and to achieve higher efficiency.
