Religion ❏ Today we will identify ways of expressing joy. We will understand that Easter is the greatest feast of

the church year. We will understand the meaning of the word Alleluia.

❏ Look at p. 348-349 in your Religion pages or print or look at Religion p. 348

❏ Pray together the scripture at the top of the page. Close with the sign of the cross.

Mary, Magdalene, one of Jesus’ friends, said those words after she discovered that Jesus was raised from the dead.

❏ Talk to your family about how you express joy. We all have so much to be joyful for! Write 3-5 words in your notebook that describe joy.

Example: Hurray! Wow!

❏ Look at page 348 - What kind of candle is shown?

(the Easter, or Pascal, candle which is blest and lit every year on Easter and used throughout the year on occasions such as Baptisms and Funerals)

❏ Read the text on this page. Tell someone the answers to these questions; “What is the Good News we celebrate on Easter?” “What is the joyful word we use to celebrate Jesus’ new life?”

❏ Get a piece of paper and write the word ALLELUIA in the middle of the paper. Leave space above and below the word to draw pictures or write about things that make you think about new life. You may use markers, crayons, or whatever materials you may have at home. If it is nice out, you could use chalk and do it on the sidewalk. *Take a picture, or scan the finished work, and send it to your teacher by Friday.

126 Math Facts

Lesson 126: Locating and Graphing Points on a Coordinate Graph

Important Vocabulary:

Ordered Pair: the two numbers in parenthesis that tell where to find a point on a coordinate graph

Origin: (0,0) the starting point on the graph

X axis: the bottom, horizontal line of the graph This is the first number in an ordered pair.

Y axis: the left, vertical line of the graph This is the second number in an ordered pair.

Each point on a coordinate graph has a special address that tells us where it is located on the graph, just like your house address tells people where your house is located on the street.

The blue circle on the coordinate graph is located at (5, 3). If you start at the origin, first move 5 to the right on the x axis. Then, move 3 up on the y axis. You’ve found it!

❏ Please watch these videos to help you learn about locating and graphing points on a coordinate graph: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/basic-geo/basic-geo-coord-plane/coordinate-plane-quad-1/v/introduction-to-the-coordinate-plane

Find Lesson Worksheet 126. Lesson Worksheet 126

❏ In the parentheses, write in the x and y coordinates that help us find the smiley face on the graph. ❏ Repeat this for the star and the heart. ❏ Now, draw a triangle on your graph at (4,3) ❏ Draw a circle on your graph at (1,2). ❏ Draw a square on your graph at (2,0).

For fun, keep going! Can you use ordered pairs to place other objects of your choosing on the graph? Try this with someone at home.

Religion ❏ Today we will explore the concept of amazement. We will learn about the visit to Jesus’ tomb on

Easter morning. We will describe how Jesus’ followers felt about Jesus’ resurrection.

❏ Start today by singing an Alleluia song that is familiar to you or your family. Then read the scripture verse from yesterday’s reading:

“I have seen Jesus! He is Alive” Based on John 20:18

❏ Sometimes we are amazed when we see something big and beautiful (for example, a waterfall, a huge mountain, or fireworks). Sometimes we are amazed when we experience something that we did not expect to happen. Talk about a time that you felt amazed.

❏ Look at p. 350-351 in your religion packets or see or print Religion p. 350

“What do the men appear to be doing?” That’s right, they are looking inside a cave or tomb. Read this page to see how Mary Magdalene is amazed and how the Apostles Peter, and John felt when they discovered that Jesus’ tomb was empty.

❏ The Apostles find out that God has raised Jesus to new life! Jesus had been raised from the dead! This is the Resurrection! In your notebook answer this question:

How do you think Jesus’ followers felt about this wonderful news?

Example: knocks over the trash

❏ *Take a picture, or scan the finished work, and send it to your teacher by Friday.

❏ Comprehension - Plot & Theme

Plot = Beginning - Middle - End

Religion ❏ Today we learn how to value the gifts we receive from the Holy Spirit. We will learn about the

disciples receiving the Holy Spirit. We will Identify Pentecost as the birthday of the Church.

❏ We begin with the sign of the cross and say:

“The Holy Spirit is God. God the Father sent us the Holy Spirit to help us Grow in faith.” Then read the scripture verse from yesterday’s reading:

“I have seen Jesus! He is Alive” Based on John 20:18

❏ We receive many kinds of gifts from God. He gives us life, parents, family, friends, and a new life in Jesus. Talk about some of the gifts that God has given you. God the Father gives us the Holy Spirit. God the Holy Spirit lives within us to help us make good choices and do good things.

❏ Look at p. 352-353 in your religion packet or see or print Religion p. 352. This is a follower of Jesus teaching to the people.

❏ When you read this page you are going to learn about the followers of Jesus receiving the Holy Spirit. Read the text “Come, Holy Spirit,” on p. 352, with or to someone.

❏ Talk with your family about these questions:

What Jewish Festival did people gather in Jerusalem to celebrate? What were Jesus’ followers waiting for? What did Jesus’ followers do after they were filled with the Holy Spirit? How many days after Easter do we celebrate Pentecost?

❏ Below is this prayer to use at bedtime or anytime you would like...

Reading

❏ Phonics/Spelling – REVIEW Prefixes un-, re-, pre-, dis-

ureal refill prepay displease

You studied words like these last week. What do you know about these words? (Each word has a base word and a prefix)

un- and dis- mean “not” or “do the opposite of”

re- means”again” and pre- means “before”

❏ In your notebook, make a T chart with four prefix headings. Try to come up with at least 4 words with that prefix to put under each heading.

Example: un re pre dis

unreal refill prepay displease

❏ The prefix usually forms a separate syllable from the base word. Now, use those words and break the word into parts. Read one part at a time, and then read the parts together.

Example: “un - real = unreal”

Optional Math Lesson 125: Choosing a Survey Questions and Choices

Today you will make up a question for you to ask your family and friends. You will also be providing some answer choices. You will ultimately be making a graph to show your data.

Possible topics for you graph include:

favorite ice cream flavor favorite animal favorite color favorite season

favorite food favorite vacation spot favorite sport

Choose a question to ask and then make up 4 choice answers. Try to make your choices something your family members might like. For example, if my question is “What is your favorite food?” Liver, beets, spinach, and cookies might not be good choices because most people would choose cookies.

Write your question and the answer choices on the top part of the paper: Lesson Worksheet 125-2A.pdf

When you survey your family members read the question and the answer choices to that person. Tally the answers to your question in the space provided.

Making the Graph: Lesson Worksheet 125-2B Graph.pdf

Write the title at the top of the graph.

Write the answer choices below each column.

Use a different colored crayon to show how many people chose each answer. When you finish, write an observation about the graph at the bottom of the worksheet. If you choose to do this optional assignment, take a picture, or scan, a picture of your graph and send it to your teacher by Friday.
