Rising up in the world Dulsco in the news

Aniket Chitnis and Mahabir Singhal manage to ace the 11th edition of Dulsco Classic.

Aniket Chitnis gracefully pulled ahead of his peers in the individual (Division A) Stableford format to wrap up the 11th edition of Dulsco Classic, one of the oldest corporate sports tournaments in the UAE. Mahabir Singhal took home the honours in the Division B category.

Held on 20th February 2014 at the prestigious Al Badia Golf Club by InterContinental, Dubai Festival City, the Dulsco Classic Tournament remains one of the most eagerly awaited tournaments of the season amidst the UAE business community. This year’s event featured many nail-biting clashes amongst the amateur golfers.

Over 75 golfers participated in this edition. In the team category, Keith Tose, Louis DeVilliers, Nick Hall and Damian Milton were crowned as champions after scoring 82 points. The day’s high point was the game’s longest drive by Mariaan Koenig who effortlessly hit the ball across to 374 yards while Abdel Kader Tazerout won the nearest to the pin for hole #11.

Alongside the main tournament ran the Golf Clinic. It gave non-golfers and beginners an engaging opportunity to learn the game’s finer details from professional golfers from the Al Badia Golf Club.

Rising up to the challenge Dulsco and its clients

Client in focus: Sajid Mahmood, (in the centre) Director of Engineering, Marjan Island Resort & Spawith Dulsco team working at Marjan Islands.Named after the iconic Crystalline enriched Marjan Island, Marjan Island Resort & Spa is located in Ras Al Khaimah’s first man-made archipelago of 4 picturesque coral-shaped islands and boasts breath-taking scenic marine views of the shimmering waters of Arabian Gulf. The resort opened its doors to the public on 1st March 2014. This newest destination and most discerning resort attraction of Ras Al Khaimah was started keeping in mind Ras Al Khaimah’s growth as an emirate and holiday desti-nation. The resort aims to be a ‘family brand and leisure destination’. The resort is a non-smoking, non-alcoholic resort – a clear indication of their dedication to the objec-tive of creating a true family destination. As the resort prepared to begin operations, Sajid Mahmood, Director of Engineering, Marjan Island Resort and Spa was looking for a reliable and legal service provider for outsourced manpower. Being a resort of repute, he was certain not to go with an ‘unlicensed’ provider that might harm their service and reputation of the resort. On enquiring with friends and colleagues in the industry, Sajid was referred by most to Dulsco, as one of the best and only professional service providers in RAK. While various qualities were highlighted, not a single negative quality was mentioned. “It is simple”, he said, “If there was something negative, people would not have recommended Dulsco.”

Armed with recommendations from his well-wishers, Sajid began outsourcing housekeeping staff, stewards,

Dulsco has a pool of trained staff for the hospitality industry and caters to almost 85% of the RAK-based premium hospitality groups, including the Waldorf .

Client in focus: Mohammed Hassan Humood, Head of Human Resource Section, Union Cement Company.

‘We are very happy with the Dulsco staff. They are good at their work and have good skills.’

Union Cement Company (UCC), an ISO 9000 and 14001 certified company, is the first cement producer established in the United Arab Emirates. It was set up in 1972 in the Khor Kwair Industrial Area and production commenced with the first line in 1975 under the management of Norcem A.S., a member of Heidelberg Cement Group. The second line started in 1977 followed by the third one in 1979 and the fourth line established in 2007. UCC is also the only oil well cement producer in the UAE since 1980. The recent Waste Heat Recovery project at UCC, inaugurated in 2012, reinforces its position as a pioneer in the field.

waiters and drivers from Dulsco from day one of the resort operations. Currently almost 30 Dulsco employees across various categories work with Marjan Resort. Start-ing operations of a resort the size of Marjan is no easy task. This challenge was jointly overcome by Dulsco and Marjan. “Dulsco was very supportive. We are very satis-fied with the services which is why we are increasing business with Dulsco as well.” said Sajid. The outsourcing model works very well for the resort as they are beginning operations. The model helps them focus on their core areas of operations and service qual-ity, while legal and HR related operational matters are handled efficiently by Dulsco. Overall, Sajid said that Marjan is very happy with the services of Dulsco and is definitely looking to work with Dulsco in the future, especially with the group increasing their presence in various locations. Sajid encouraged Dulsco to add people across various categories and nationalities to support Marjan in all their future plans.

As Head of the HR Section at Union Cement Company, Mohammed Hassan Humood has relied on Dulsco for his outsourced manpower requirements for over 4 years. Skilled men from Dulsco assist UCC supervisors during their shutdown operations while General helpers and Tally clerks support regular operations at UCC. Mohammed was quick to compliment Dulsco staff. ‘We are very happy with Dulsco. They are good at their work and have good skills’, said Mohammed. He was espe-cially impressed with the safety measures taken by Dulsco to ensure that their staff were well protected at their work place. ‘Dulsco staff are always in their cover-alls’, he noticed.

Mohammed personified humility and humanity at work in his short conversation with Dulsco. Recognized for his work and having grown in the organization, Mohammed brings an understanding of various functions along with a human touch to his dealings. He gives importance to the welfare of every individual at the company, regardless of the nature or level of work. His concern for welfare reso-nates with Dulsco’s efforts to provide the best in accom-modation, training and welfare activities to its employees.

Being one of the oldest companies in UAE like Dulsco, the UCC team is the proud owner of a black and white picture of the first shipment of machinery that came from Japan. Through the years the company has grown in leaps and bounds. The future seems even brighter with an increased demand for cement due to growth in construction across UAE. UCC relies on Dulsco to support its requirements in recruitment and outsourcing. Dulsco looks forward to a continued association with UCC, where employees are treated with the same respect and dignity they are given at Dulsco.

The employees have positive attitude, high morale, work ethics and are great with taking instructions. We owe our company growth largely to the supportive workforce we have, which includes Dulsco employees.

Headquartered in Dubai, Go Aviation Middle East is a full service aircraft appearance company providing services that range from light interior cleaning to a complete paint and bright work restoration and polishing. These unique and skilled services are offered to commercial, VIP and cargo aircrafts, whether based in the region or just in transit. The company has also introduced a specialized service called ‘Dry washing’ to the Mena and Gulf region - a greener way of aircraft cleaning.

The management and leadership team at Go Aviation – a highly skilled team - were founders and operators of aircraft service companies in the United States. They decided to bring this valuable experience to the Middle East when the team moved to Dubai from the United States of America.

Dulsco team met Dennis Cruz, President, and Marc Lelah, Vice President – the main operational business partners at Go Aviation. When they moved from the US, they brought with them not just the expertise and skill required, but also a deep respect for the talent they employ. From employee awards to recognition for extra hours put in, Go Aviation ensures that all employees, whether on their payroll or Dulsco’s, get due recognition, respect and freedom they deserve. The happy team of Dulsco employees have reciprocated with hard work and dedica-tion from their end. “The employees have positive attitude, high morale, work ethics and are great with taking instructions. We owe our company growth largely to the supportive workforce we have, which includes Dulsco employees,” said Marc.

Go Aviation hires team members from Dulsco who are trained on different nuances of aircraft interior and exterior cleaning. Dulsco employees showed willingness to learn and were found to be quick learners. Dennis pointed out that they have had their ups and downs like any organiza-tion does. “But we are now at a good point. We never thought we could get to the state of ‘everyone train one’. It is fantastic just to see how far they have come,” said Dennis.

When Go Aviation moved to Dubai, they were on the lookout for local outsourcing companies who adhered to labour law requirements. While their search results had narrowed down to Dulsco, a friend also recommended Dulsco to Dennis. The recommendation helped firm up their decision. Talking about the journey ever since, Dennis said “It’s been fantastic! Faron is great. Certainly having a dedicated representative for us is a huge benefit. We can be quite demanding sometimes but it is good to have somebody on the other side who is flexible and understanding.”

Go Aviation has come a long way with Dulsco as a com-petent outsourcing partner. Dulsco employees are now as much a part of Go Aviation’s expansion plans as their own employees.

Movie review: 2 States

2 States is the story of Krish, a Punjabi and Ananya, a Tamilian who meet and fall in love at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Based on the novel of the same name by best-selling author Chetan Bhagat, the movie is an engaging and realistic portrayal of what happens when a boy and a girl from different cultural backgrounds try and get married with the blessings of their parents. The first half of the film focuses on the developing attachment between Krish and Ananya. Once they decide to get married, the arduous and frequently comedic process of convincing their parents begins, starting with Ananya’s strait-laced and tight-lipped Tamil-ian parents, followed by Krish’s talkative, fiery and highly opinionated Punjabi mother. The supporting cast does a fine job of portraying the insecurity and hurt egos of parents whose children have decided to go against their wishes. The film also features a foot-tapping score and vibrant cinematography. But what truly mesmerizes you are the performances of its two lead actors. Arjun Kapoor’s portrayal of a sensitively defiant lad reeling from his parents’ marital tensions is endearing and Alia Bhatt’s role as the intelligent and vivacious Ananya is refreshing. Both actors are competent and confident and moviego-ers can look forward to more from them in the years to come. All in all, 2 States is a fun watch for the whole family. It is a little melodramatic and clichéd in parts, and could have been twenty minutes shorter, but it’s an honest and refreshing piece of entertainment.
