What is Human Resource?• Human resources are the people that work for an organization, and Human Resource Planning is concerned with how these people are being proactively allocated to meet organizational goal.

Purpose of Human Resource Planning

• It is essential for organizations to do human resource planning so they can meet business objectives and gain a competitive advantage over competitors.

– Human resource planning compares the present state of the organization with its goals for the future

– Then identifies what changes it must make in its human resources to meet those goals

Workforce Analysis• Workforce Analysis: Consider what kind of future workforce is needed to satisfy the organization's strategic objectives. By analyzing the current workforce and comparing to future employment requirements, it can discover what gaps or surpluses exist

Human Resource Forecasting

• HR Forecasting attempts to determine the supply and demand for various types of human resources, and to forecast areas within the organization where there will be labor shortages or over-allocation.

There are three major steps to forecasting:

1.Forecasting the demand for labor

2.Determining labor supply

3.Determining labor surpluses and shortages

Environmental Scanning

• In order to do human resource planning, you need to have sense of both;

1. The current external environment 2. The things that may happen in future labour market place.

• Environmental Scanning attempt to answer 2 questions:

1. Which jobs need to be filled during the next 12 months?

2. How & where will we get people to fill these jobs?

It helps to manage allocation of resources by addressing the problem of over allocation of resources.
