of the government as well as the general public for the

establishment of a registration system for Hong Kong Interior Designers

• A monitored experience program for graduates of interior design

education programs and practitioners

• To raise the professional standards of interior design in Hong

Kong by ensuring that interior designers acquire sufficient

professional knowledge and skills

• Pairs up HKIDA’s Professional Members with young interior

designers in a 24-months long mentor-mentee relationship that is

beneficial to both parties.

Who can be Mentor?A qualified mentor is an HKIDA professional member with at least Five years of professional experience in Interior Design industry, subject to vetting by HKIDA or recognized by endorsed associations and institutions (e.g. AIA, RIBA, HKIA)

Who can be Mentee?2-year higher diploma or associate degree in

interior design +3 years working experience in interior design

Bachelor's degree in interior design OR

Mission for a Mentor• Nominate staff from your company• Help your mentee(s) complete the Logsheet monthly• Coaching the mentee to expand their contacts, learn from another

designer and broaden their experiences, as well as develop his/her self-confidence

• Pass on their valuable knowledge to the next generation, and ensure that HK interior design industry can be sustained

Benefits to Mentor• Opportunities to hone their own coaching, counseling and leadership

skills• Acquisition of new technical, interpersonal and/or leadership skills• One-on-one opportunities to know and understand the procedure

from the inside out• Develop a long-term relationship with your staff/subordinate 6

Mission for a Mentee• Complete the Logsheet monthly in order to record the work and experience• Meeting with our program supervisor to monitor the progress development (1st

briefing and review meeting in 3rd, 9th, 18th & 24th month)

Benefits to Mentee• Work with a supervising interior designer (Mentor) who monitors their

work experience to be sure they are exposed to and gain experience in the diverse parts of the design process

• Meet with a mentor to expand their contacts, learn from another designer and broaden their experiences

• At the end of the two years, the logbook will be submitted to the Hong Kong Interior design Association (HKIDA) for evaluation

• With the approval of the logbook from the HKIDA, mentees are qualified to become HKIDA professional members 9
