The African Union, Scientific, Technical and Research Commission (AU-STRC) as a
specialized institution of the African Union have been at the vanguard of
promoting science and technology in the continent for the past 6 decades;
It is mandated to implement the AU policies and Strategies on STI, currently
spearheading the implementation of STISA-2024;
AS of the Establishment of the ASRIC the AU-STRC mandate was enlarged to be
the secretariat of ASRIC.

In the area of live together- build the society
Identifying the root cause and effects of less participation
of women in scientific research;
Road way from gender disparity to gender equality bringing
about a paradigm shift in support for women in science;
Intervention mechanisms to be put in place for the
enhancement of women participation in science
a. Increase the number of Sensitization /Capacity
Building Programme for Female Scientists; and
b. More political commitment to female
participation in science”.

Guiding the development of standards, safety and efficacy of plants
use
The framework was a new paradigm for the risk management
of infectious diseases in Africa and advocated for the creation
of an enabling environment for implementation of disease
surveillance. The framework was developed on the concept of
one health “public health, animal health, ecosystems health,
and plant health”. The framework was the foundation and one
of the guiding principles to establish the AUCDC.

Communication (Physical & Intellectual Mobility)
The African Union Network of Sciences (AUNS) is a virtual
platform that gives comprehensive interaction within the
knowledge society and posts the African Research and
Innovation output/library. It also uplifts the intra Africa
cooperation in Science, Technology and Research to improve
the quality and the application of science, technology and
innovation by promoting and sharing experiences/knowledge.
AUNS is an innovative way to enhance brain circulation and
bridge the African based Scientists and those in the Diaspora to
address Africa’s Challenges.
