Congratulations to our Year 6 students Ella P, Edita G and Sienna B who organised the entire event. Moving into high school Starting high school means a new location, new friends and teachers, and new routines. Upcoming Events The Senior Band has one public performance scheduled and one pending. The scheduled performance will be held at Warringah Mall in school time (yea!). A bus will be organised and the return cost is estimated at around $12 to $15 per student. A teacher will accompany the students. The performance is now confirmed for Friday 30 November at 12.35pm . The Band has also been invited to play at the official opening of the Warriewood Brook Retirement Village on Saturday 24 November at a time to be determined (probably between 10am and 2pm) for around 20 to 30 minutes. Media and dignitaries will be on hand for what sounds like a high profile event. Warriewood Brook have offered to provide minibuses to take Band students from school to the event and back again to reduce the commitment by parents. A small ensemble of Senior Band students will be invited to play Christmas carols at the Elanora Kindergarten on Sunday, 9 December at around 6.15pm for 30 to 45 minutes. The Band Gala Night will be held from 7pm on Thursday 6 December. Planning for this event is in progress and details will be made available later in the term. Carols Night is Friday, 14 December from 5pm. The P&C Social Committee is assisting with this night and we welcome their involvement and grateful for their participation. Thursday Afternoon Rehearsals Frances is keen to establish a Stage Band/Senior Ensembles made up of the more senior, Senior Band members. These ensembles will play challenging pieces and allow students to improve their musical ability. We intend to combine the current Brass and Woodwind groups at 3pm and for this group to rehearse together for 1 hour. The Stage Band/Senior Ensembles will then rehearse from 4pm until 5pm. We hope to give indication of membership to these 2 new groups at Tuesday and Wednesday morning rehearsal. Please advise me at: [email protected] ASAP if this arrangement causes difficulties with your schedules as Frances would like to implement these changes this Thursday, 25 October. This arrangement will only proceed on the basis that a critical mass of students can play in the Stage Band/Senior Ensemble. New Band Students In Term 4 each year students are invited to join the band for next year’s program. New student intake is predominantly from this year’s Year 2 and 3 classes. The Band will play for all Year 2 and 3 students on Wednesday, 21 November during school hours and final selection of instrument is by way of an assessment scheduled for Monday, 3 December, also during school hours. Students currently in Years 4 to 5 are also eligible to join the band and try out at the same assessment or, on the basis they have a grounding in music, audition for the Junior or Senior Bands. In the next week or two, Year 2 and 3 parents will receive a flyer explaining a little more about music and the broad aims of the band. Strings We currently have seven students expressing interest to learn violin next year. It is still possible to join this program. Please contact Liz Wakefield at: [email protected] to express your interest. Guitar We are in the process of organising next year’s program. If your child is interested in guitar tuition please email our Guitar Coordinator elect, Karen Milne at: [email protected] EHPS Website The school has a new website that offers a high degree of flexibility and house the band’s documents and forms. The website will be another source for permanent and casual communication with all band participants. A detailed document outlining the Band’s function, structure, fees and obligations was reviewed by the Committee and was circulated to current band member parents last week. The purpose of the

document is to provide a readily available resource to assist members with information that needs referencing from time to time. It will also assist new members to understand the workings of the band. Band parent feedback on this document is appreciated. We hope to go live with this content within the next 3 weeks. Fees Many thanks to those who have paid promptly. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. For those with fees still outstanding, please pay as soon as possible. Tim Cowdery Band President

A message from the P&C ...

COMMUNITY NEWS - It has been a hectic couple of months with some great functions which have been organised by the Social Committee, Parents and the School. It started with the painting of the Library and freshening up of the School entrance, planting of the trees on the bottom oval, the BushWahzee and the Fathers’ Day Campout. It doesn't stop there with the bus trip, disco and carols fair just a few events to mark on the calendar. On Saturday night the organisational skills of the Social Committee were put to the test with 90 campsites booked for the top oval. As the boom gate was raised there were already eager parents in attendance to set up for the big night. A special thank you to all the parents who contributed from setting up to running the BBQ's and to the inevitable clean up. It ran like clockwork. I was told that the tug of war and the egg and spoon race could be heard throughout the entire valley. A Special Thank you to all the parents and kids, as well as on their attendance, co-operation and excellent behaviour. It was a pleasure to be part of. P&C MEETING - Tomorrow Night is the last meeting prior to the AGM. There are a lot of things to sort out and update everyone as to where the P&C is at, so your attendance is appreciated. See you there. Justin Wolfe P&C President
