cement-cum-grey cement plant in the free trade zone at Fujairah, U.A.E to cater to the GCC and African markets, which currently produces 0.6 MTPA of white cement. In all, JK white cement is being sold in 33 countries in the world today. Some of the Company’s abiding strengths are superior products and a strong Brand name, an extensive marketing and distribution network and their technical know-how. In addition to these goals, JK Cement has always envisioned the socio-economic development of the regions in which its cement production units are established, thereby facilitating a wider economic growth of the regions of interest.

Mr. Yadupati Singhania’s role in establishing and promoting the industry

Mr. Singhania earned a B.Tech degree in 1976 from IIT Kanpur, India’s premier technology institute, and joined the family business. He toiled on the shop floor under the watchful eyes of industry stalwarts and learnt the craft from within. He started his career with the cotton and cement divisions of JK Organisation where he gained a

360 degrees perspective, working in technical, commercial and marketing aspects of business. This rigorous training shaped his professional character and gave him a penchant for details. Mr. Singhania’s vision of responsible entrepreneurship encompassed organisational growth that stimulated the country's growth as well in the relevant sectors. His ethical approach earned him the respect of esteemed peers, dignitaries and national leaders alike. Understanding the potential of the industry, Mr. Singhania went on establishing more and more cement plants to meet the increasing demand of the market. He visited several cement manufacturing units nationally and internationally and kept himself updated with the latest trends and technology to get first-hand information. As a result, he envisioned world class production units, a wide range of superior building products and a global presence. And he demonstrated an innate consciousness that his actions were judicious enough not to exploit the employees or natural resources or the environment.

The geographic/community space in India where the industry is established Most of the industrial units Mr. Singhania established are in socially distressed and deprived regions of India. The main reason for this is that the region would develop around his industrial initiatives and provide a share to the local people in the utilization of the natural resource of the region. This has been a fundamental motive in all his actions. At the same time, his operations have been spread out as widely as possible in the country, so as to provide equal opportunity of employment and sustenance to as larger geographic areas as possible. Following is a brief list of the cement plants established under these ideals. JK Cement plants are established in 6 geographies in India, namely in Jhajjar (Haryana), Gotan (Rajasthan), Mangrol (Rajasthan), Nimbahera (Rajasthan), Katni (Madhya Pradesh) and Mudhol (Karnataka.

Mr. Yadupati Singhania’s vision of industrial and socio economic development Mr. Singhania, having established his cement production units in very distressed geographic regions in the country, took upon himself the onerous responsibility of transforming the life support systems and life quality of the resident communities. Besides the industrial units, he has established educational institutions, medical facilities, skill development centres, public amenities. A brief note on the initiatives is given below:

4

Nimbahera - The First Step to Nation Building The first plant was set up in a small, sleepy, barren town of Nimbahera, Distt. Chittorgarh, Rajasthan in 1975. This was the first in the line of the many thriving plants established by the Company under his inspiring aegis. Starting small with a 0.3 MTPA capacity, constant upgradation has resulted in the plant's present capacity of 3.3 MTPA. The Company has always held the welfare of its employees and the community at large very dear. It has undertaken various community and rural development programmes throughout Chittorgarh district including environmental awareness, educational development, literacy drive, skill development, training etc. They have established banking and postal facilities, a cooperative store, a dispensary boasting of medical facilities and schools like Kailash Vidya Vihar and Padam Vidya Vihar. Trade Training Institutes like JK Institute of Technology was established to reach out to unskilled youth of the region. Mr. Yadupati Singhania also set up the Regional Training Centre for the Cement Industry at Nimbahera. It is a premier training centre of North India promoted by JK Cement with assistance from World Bank, DANIDA and Govt. of India as a unique HRD project in Cement Industry.

Gotan – the white dream In the early 1980s, the concept of White Cement itself was unheard of and attracted prejudice of being classified as a luxury product. However unflinching in his belief, Mr. Singhania led from the front and decided to establish a white cement plant in India.

JK White Cement Works, Gotan (Raj) was the first White Cement facility in India which was limestone based and manufactured cement through the dry

process. The plant has grown from an initial production capacity of 50,000 tons in 1984 to its current production capacity of 6,10,000 tons per annum due to continuous process improvements & modifications. In 2002, the Company launched J.K. Wall Putty, a value-added product with a tremendous potential against conventional wall cladding products. Today, the Company is the second largest manufacturer of wall putty in the Country. In 1984 Gotan, there were no education and medical facilities for the employees. Mr. Yadupati Singhania took immediate steps to take care of welfare activities. A small school with two rooms was

started with a single teacher and 17 students. Today Lala Kamlapat Singhania Education Centre (LKSEC – www.lksec.org) is spread over an area of 250 acres, giving education to as over 1600 students with boarders living in ultramodern hostels. Accredited with I S O - 9 0 0 1 a n d I S O - 1 4 0 0 1 certifications from LRQA UK, is a member of Indian Public Schools' Conference (IPSC). LKSEC is also a participating institution in UNESCO associated schools for promoting International Peace and Cooperation.

Mangrol – Achievement against adversity

JK Cement Works, Mangrol, was built when the industry was experiencing a downcycle and the Company was facing a liquidity crisis. Mr. Singhania made JK

Mangrol a reality as a strategic step to reap significant synergy benefits like assistance from technical & commercial staff of Nimbahera which is just 10 km away from Mangrol. Commercial production commenced in December 2001, with a capacity of 0.75 MnTPA. This brown field expansion implementation at Mangrol has brought up the capacity to 2.2 MTPA with an integrated cement grinding capacity of 1.5 MTPA, 25MW Captive power plant and 10MW Waste Heat Recovery plant. Muddapur – A Pan India Initiative Situated near Distt. Bagalkot (Karnataka) J.K. Cement Works, Muddapur commenced commercial production in September 2009. This was part of realization of Mr. Singhania’s Pan India dream for JK Cement. It was also his vision to install only the most sophisticated and state-of-the-art technology and control systems at the plant. The best equipment available in the global market from internationally renowned firms found their way to the plant making it one of the most modern cement manufacturing facilities with a production capacity of up to 3.0 Million tons per annum. Today the cement plants have the most sophisticated dry process pre-calcination technology and control system. They also use robotic technology to ensure the production of high quality cement consistently. Padampat Primary School, Muddapur and a modern Medical Care Centre simultaneously established, in order to provide wide ranging community service in the region.

Jhajjar – New Beginnings of Excellence

The Company put up the first state of art split grinding unit of 1.5 MTPA at Jharli, Jhajjar Distt., Haryana. Catering to major markets like Delhi, Haryana & Punjab

will be more effectively and logistically viable from this grinding unit. The socio-economic landscape of Jhajjar has now shown tremendous amount of positive changes. Clean drinking water initiative is being actively pursued in Jhajjar as the region has chronically suffered with shortage of potable water. RO water is being made available and overhead water tanks have been installed for the communities. Katni- New Frontiers Keeping in view the ever-increasing demand, JK established a white cement based Wall Putty Manufacturing unit in Katni, M.P. with an initial capacity of 2 Lac tonnes per annum in May 2016. Fujairah – Conquering New Shores

Going global and expanding beyond the country's shores has been Mr. Singhania’s long-nurtured goal. J.K. Cement Ltd. announced its presence in the Middle East with its first dispatch from its

maiden overseas plant at Fujairah, UAE. on 3rd March 2014. With state-of-the-art quality control and environment friendly technology, the plant has the flexibility to produce both white cement and grey cement, depending upon the market demand. The capacity of the Grey cum White Cement plant is 1,750 tonnes per day for White Cement clinker and 2,800 tonnes per day Grey Cement clinker. The plant at Fujairah has a capacity of 0.6 million tonnes per annum for White Cement with a flexibility to change over its operation to produce upto 1 million tonnes per annum of Grey Cement. With the commissioning of this plant, the Company has become the third largest producer of White Cement in the World.

Mr. Singhania has constantly emphasized on the community development initiatives around the regions where the cement production plants have been established. At each of the six sites, the area of community development involves on an average, about 20 to 30 villages as the footprint of positive impact. Apart from provision of employment and promotion of ancillary opportunities of businesses that are the direct aspects of socio-economic influence, a large number of CSR activities are also carried out as follows:

8

Education About 9 institutions of learning have been established around the country with a student population of about 10,000 at any point in time. The institutions range from nursery education to vocational training to doctoral degrees. Community health care Health check-up and health assistance camps are regularly conducted in villages for the communities on a regular basis. Free eye camps, blood donation camps, AIDS awareness camps, free vaccination camps for live stocks, cancer checkup and awareness camps for women and free medical treatment camps are held frequently in villages. At Gotan, a 250 bed hospital is being built for the use of the community. Ambulence services are made available to the communities in most of the establishments. Infrastructure development Both infrastructure development and infrastructure facilitation have been taken up in several sites by JK Industries for the use of the communities. At Gotan, a rail station was secured for the village to establish connectivity. At rail stations, platforms and seating infrastructure have been built. Roads have been laid to villages to increase accessibility to amenities. Sanitation infrastructure in villages has been set up by way of drainage pipelines. Installation of RO plants, digging of borewells and pond deepening have been done on a regular basis.

Innovation, originality, cost effectiveness and environmental

friendliness of operations Innovation and technology improvement have been used as strategies to increase efficiency, cost saving, reduction of waste, raising safety standards at work, reduction of pollution and effluents and energy saving in all the plants. In house R&D in this regard is a very dynamic process. Generally, Mr. Singhania has ensured that the company has taken up technology up-gradation and R&D activities in the areas of Process Improvement, Sustainable Development and Energy Management. The major ones include:

o Replacement of conventional grate cooler of Kiln 3 at Nimbahera plant with latest state of art IKN pendular cooler with hot air circulation and replacing conventional burner by multi-channel burner has given reduction in thermal energy and improved efficiency / output of the kiln.

o Liquid Mix Waste as Alternative Fuel is in use at Nimbahera /

9

Mangrol plant which has led to reduction in thermal energy. o Use of ETP Sludge, GEIPL waste, plastic waste etc. at Muddapur

Plant led to reduction in Coal use thus leading to monetary savings. o Energy Management System is under installation at Gotan Plant

which will optimise power consumption with respect to operation and will give savings of over US$ 600,000 per annum.

Sustainable development and self reliance of the region

Considering that around 30 villages in the vicinity of cement plants on an average have been provided developmental facilitation and assistance by JK Cement Ltd., about 180 villages in India have benefited in socio-economic terms. Alround developmental activities on the premise of ‘sustainable development’ have helped the communities to transform into an enhanced state of quality of life over time. While some are given direct employment, a large number of people who have benefited from educational and skill development endeavours and those who have explored opportunities of ancillary businesses, have established a society of self reliance and professional dignity. This has been made possible with the developmental vision of Mr. Singhania.

Power plants for generation of required power for operations and the

communities

JK Industries is very conscious of optimizing its power needs for the factories and communities. As far as possible, it has attempted to generate its own power, instead of straining the national grid. About 125.7 MW of power is generated through 4 captive power plants, situated in Nimbahera, Mangrol, Gotan and Muddapur. JK Industries is the first cement industry in the country to install waste heat recovery plants, thus moving towards green energy solution. Over 32 MW of energy in all is produced through waste heat recovery process across the plants. Annexure

MTPA refers to Metric Tonnes Per Annum, which is a typical measurement unit for Cement. About White Cement White Cement has long been a product shrouded in mystery and myths about its applications and uses. Very often people have the notion that since it is a Cement product, it must be used purely for construction and repair purposes. Not only is JK White Cement the most popular and time tested choice for floors and walls

but also its lesser known applications have many scopes; it is suitable for numerous decorative & architectural applications in white, light & dark colours. JK Cement Ltd. is currently the 3rd largest White Cement producer in the world, exporting to 34 countries and producing in two countries, namely India & UAE.
