Introduction

Nemo Outdoor is a laptop-based, drive and laboratory testing solution for wireless networks and devices testing, troubleshooting, optimization and benchmarking. It supports all the latest network technologies and smartphones. Nemo Outdoor support 5G NR (NSA, SA), LTE-A, NB-IoT and LTE-M and legacy 2G-3G mobile networks testing with support to over 320 different terminals, IoT devices and scanning receivers from various vendors.

Nemo Outdoor enables measuring quality-of-experience (QoE) metrics for the services using the very same applications that real customers are using. Those applications run on the phone, in the very same way as with the normal consumers have. Nemo Outdoor support include advanced YouTube video testing, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, Viber, BiP, Line and Snapchat testing. With the optional Nemo Active Testing Application functionality integrated into the Nemo Outdoor system, the smartphone measurement results reflect the real end-user experience. This gives customers the capability to understand wireless network quality from end consumer perspective, troubleshoot and optimize the network based on the results, ultimately improving customer satisfaction and reducing churn.

This new Nemo Outdoor release 9.00 continues to introduce support for new 5G NR devices from all the main 5G NR device vendors with new 5G NR KPIs. With this release we will also continue to further extend 5G NR and QoE measurement capabilities and usability of Nemo Outdoor. The following chapters elaborate more details of the new features and changes of Nemo Outdoor 9.00 release.

Note that this release is designed only for the Nemo Outdoor users and has not been verified for Nemo Invex II users.

New Motorola 5G NR device

In Nemo Outdoor 9.00 we will bring support for the following Motorola 5G device

• Motorola Edge Plus XT2061-3 (Qualcomm X55) o FW: NTT40249A o HW: NTT20249A

New NB IoT device

With the earlier Nemo Outdoor releases there are multiple NB IoT and LTE-M devices supported and now with Nemo Outdoor 9.00 release we will bring support for 3GPP Rel14 KnowYou KDC-6336 NB IoT / LTE-M dongle. The KnowYou KDC-6336 dongle is based on Simmcom 7080G module and Qualcomm 9205 chipset.

5G NR Carrier Aggregation

In Nemo Outdoor 9.00 we are introducing support for 5G NR Carrier Aggregation. With this option it is possible to get 5G NR KPIs for all the primary and secondary cells for each carrier within certain 5G NR band. The option covers carriers in both FR1 and FR2 frequency ranges and it is applicable for 5G NSA and SA.

TWAMP – Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol

In Nemo Outdoor 9.00 release we are introducing support for TWAMP testing. TWAMP is a higher layer protocol for data transfer utilizing UDP (User Datagram Protocol) between a client and a server. The TWAMP client is located on the Android test device so the TWAMP testing with Nemo Outdoor requires NATA (Nemo Active Test Application) on the test device.

Picture 3. TWAMP test setup with Nemo Outdoor

The control channel is carried over TCP and the data tests are performed over UDP protocol. The UDP packets sent by the test terminal are echoed back from the test server to the test device.

For the configuration settings for TWAMP testing with Nemo Outdoor you need to give:

• Server IP address • Client uses Server port parameter definition • Packet Size • Packet Count • Transmission interval (min. 1ms) • RTT timeout • MAX transmission duration

With Nemo Outdoor 9.00 it is possible to get the basic KPIs and statistics from TWAMP measurements:

• Statistics for RTT • Statistics for Jitter • TWAMP packet and session statistics

TWAMP testing option is a NATA (Nemo Active Test Application) option and it requires an add-on license on top of the existing NATA running in the test device.

Improvements for Keysight Fieldfox LTE and 5G NR measurements

In Nemo Outdoor 8.90 there brought more LTE and 5G NR KPIs from the demodulated LTE and 5G NR signals measured by Keysight Fieldfox B series spectrum analyzer. In Nemo Outdoor 9.00 we have further improved the usability of the Keysight Fieldfox by introducing:

• Support for SSB pattern manual selection.

• Support for NR pilot preamplifier setting. • Support for new NR bands. • The change of the frequency threshold value from 900Hz to 3kHz with LTE Pilot

measurements

Forcing Function Improvements

As part of the Nemo Outdoor 9.00 release we are improving the system and band forcing mechanism utilizing Nemo FW of the test device. When detecting the test device Nemo Outdoor SW also detects the FW version of the test device and then automatically selects the default forcing mechanism for that particular test device. The improved forcing mechanism has been tested and validated and it is applicable for the following test device models with Nemo FW:

• Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G SM-G9960 • Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G SM-G996B (Shannon) • Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G SM-G986B (Shannon) • Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G SM-N986B (Shannon) • Samsung Galaxy Note20 5G SM-N981B (Shannon) • Samsung Galaxy S10 5G SM-G977B (Shannon) • Sony Xperia 5 II XQ-AS52 • OnePlus 9 LE2113 • One Plus 9 Pro LE2123 (QC)

With other test devices the forcing function mechanism remains the same as it has been with earlier Nemo Outdoor releases. We will introduce more test devices in coming Nemo Outdoor releases to utilize the improved band and system forcing mechanism.
