Vice Chancellor's Message it possible to be without communication? In no case

the answer to this question can be in affirmative. Even

silence speaks quite effectively. May be more than the real

words. Language of words has one or in some cases, may be

two-three meanings but silence or non communication

conveys multiple meanings. We must accept that not only to

communicate with others but also to be in conversation with

self is a survival essentiality of human living. To live

connected is a compulsion for humans and connectivity

becomes possible through communication. So, human

beings cannot communicate. To be in a state of endless

communication, to be connected every moment and to have

an uninterrupted status of inter-dependence are the basic

essentialities of human survival and these have their origin in

the biology of human being. How come Mother Nature

creates every human newborn a weakling, frail, helpless and

dependent on others? After all, butterflies, fish, frogs and

squirrels are all born free, not the least dependent on

biological parents or others of the same kind. One can say

that majority of the fellow animals of human race are blessed

to be born without any obligations. All birds and mammals do

have varying degree of dependence and helplessness but in

case of human beings the dependence is not only total it is

life long. In our cultures even post death rituals need the help

and cooperation of others. So, the universal truth is that in

case of other animals food as fuel for a functional body and

reproduction to sustain the species are the basic needs and

for human beings in addition to food and breeding

communication is also a basic survival requirement.

Study of the society reveals another interesting and

significant tendency of human beings. Man has always been

engaged in expanding his world of communications. Human

organs are built such that neither a very loud sound can be

produced nor a very distant sound can be heard. Compared

to other animals humans' capacity to see and smell is too

limited. But search for the means to hear and to be heard

beyond large distances is consistent. Talking and listening

are the basic instincts but to maximise the listeners and to

listen to many is also a consistent effort. To be aware and to

tell the happenings of far and near is also an ancient craft but

ever expanding and still progressing. To see what eyes

cannot see is also a latent desire.

Humans also have the inbuilt tendency to preserve

not only the present but also the past. The ability to expand

the world of one's relations is the gift that Mother Nature has

blessed the mankind with. If we wish we may thank God for

such blessings.

Man has been inventing and innovating techniques

and technologies to expand and optimise the reach of

communications. Words have been coined, scripts invented

and to give permanency to communication content the art

and science of language was created. The sphere of human

relations experienced unprecedented expansion as newer

and more penetrating techniques kept on emerging. Printing

and distribution of the printed was a revolutionary change.

Science and art of photography and then cinema proved to

be game changers.

We have galloped into the outer space. Riding the

electromagnetic waves and using wired and wireless

communication created a wonderful world of mass

communication through broadcasting, telephony and

telecasting. Stand-alone computers became the extensions

of brain giving the humans infinite power of storage,

processing and retrieval of information. World Wide Web of

computers gave endless opportunities for establishing

contacts and relations. Today one gadget in the palm

empowers a person to communicate with all. But the journey

of human communication continues, future may not be

visible but it is clear and bright for sure. The quantum and the

pace of progress in human communication potentials has no

parallels in the history. Current generations of humanity are

not only the witnesses or the consumers of change, in fact,

they are the change themselves. The young of today are the

technologies, the issues, the content and the communication

as well by themselves. They are the reason, the result and

the process also. This mega revolution of communication

involves hundreds, thousands and millions of yogis. Artisans

of words, creators of visuals, artists and visualisers,

magicians of sound, managers and researchers - all are

needed in this great and gigantic societal task.

Our Makhanlal University has been preparing

specialist communicators for the last 25 years. Whatever

your aptitude, liking or inclination may be, Makhanlal

University is a ground where not only a bright career but a

meaningful life can be shaped. Come, let us all join hands to

create a communicated universal community.

'kCnksa] knowledge and entertainment dissemination through word, sound, signs and visuals is an ancient wisdom. Today it has transformed into mass communication. Satellite communication technology and computers have an immemorable role in the journey of mass communication. New communication technologies have opened up new horizons in the area of information and communication. Internet and digital revolution brought in various alternatives of self expression and competition in media activities. The demand for the services of trained and resourceful human resources for the newer and wider opportunities and challenges in the field of communication is constantly increasing. Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication is the first national academic centre where communicators, media & IT Professionals are being educated and trained in all the traditional and modern methods of communication relevant to the current media needs.

Madhya Pradesh Government had established this national university in 1990 in the memory and in pursuance of the social and journalistic ideals of Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi, the great editor, poet, litterateur and freedom fighter. In addition to the headquarters campus at the state capital, Bhopal, the University has five more academic campuses one at Khandwa Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi’s “Karam Sthali” and Gwalior, Amarkantak and Rewa in MP. and the other in the national capital region’s technological city, Noida in UP.

There is a wide network of over 1100 study institutes associated to the University in different parts of the country, where various courses are conducted. This is the indicator of the University’s popularity and recognition. Keeping in view the modern needs and new trends in media and computer, University conducts postgraduate, undergraduate and diploma courses in Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, Electronic Media, Computer Science Communication, Information and Library Science etc. University has many new ambitious and job oriented courses of significance viz. MBA, M.Phi l , B.Tech, Mult imedia, Animation, Spir i tual Communication, Indian Communication Traditions etc. The University is equally involved in the area of research and many research scholars are registered for their Ph.D.
