ladies to win scholarships, develop poise, confidence, show stage presence, enhance interview

skills, and improve speaking ability. In addition, the young ladies will make public appearances

and volunteer for community service.

Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Scholarship Pageant

The Isle of Wight County Fair Committee’s goal in sponsoring the Miss Isle of Wight County Fair

Scholarship Pageant is to select the young lady that best represents the values that Virginians hold

dear. These include, but are not limited to, a nice appearance and presentation, excellent

interpersonal skills, proven academic and personal accomplishments, and knowledge of a wide

array of topics. The young lady chosen as Miss Isle of Wight County Fair will represent the fair

industry, the county, and her community across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Fair

Committee’s expectation is that Miss Isle of Wight County Fair be a responsible individual whose

desire is to contribute to the greater good through education, volunteerism, and personal influence.

Hello Contestants and Parents/Guardians!

The Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Pageant returns to Windsor High School August 14, 2022 and

it is sure to be a highlight of the Isle of Wight County Fair season. All young ladies ages 9-22 (as

of August 13, 2022) are cordially invited to compete for the titles of 2022 Junior Miss, Teen Miss,

and Miss Isle of Wight County Fair. We are very excited about the scholarship opportunities and

wonderful prize packages for the new Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Court!

This contestant application packet provides all the information contestants need to be prepared for

the competition in August. Parents/Guardians, please work closely with your contestants to help

them put their best foot forward. Take the time to read the entire package carefully as there is a lot

of important information to digest.

We are looking forward to working with all of you this year in our search for the new Isle of Wight

County Fair Court. A quick snapshot of the schedule is as follows:

Rules and Regulations

This pageant is for the selection of MISS ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY FAIR to be chosen from

young ladies who reside in the state of Virginia. The contestant selected as the MISS ISLE OF

WIGHT COUNTY FAIR QUEEN will reign for one full year, beginning with her coronation and

ending with the crowning of her successor. MISS ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY FAIR agrees not

to compete at any other pageants during her reign without the permission from Pageant Directors.

1. Contestant must be single, never married, without children, and never having been pregnant.

2. Contestant must be between the ages of 9-12 as of August 13, 2022.

3. Contestant must be female who has always been female.

4. Contestant must possess good moral character having never, at any time, been convicted of

any crime nor have any criminal charges against her, and must never have committed an act or

engaged in any activity which is or could be characterized as dishonest, immoral, indecent, or

in bad taste. This also includes any improper action on social media, in print, or via any

electronic form of communication.

5. Contestants must be a Virginia resident and CAN have competed in the Miss Isle of Wight

County Fair Scholarship Pageant more than once. Contestant must never have been a previous

Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Queen.

6. Judges’ decisions are final.

7. Miss Isle of Wight 2022 and all runners-up must remain on stage for pictures until dismissed

by the Isle of Wight County Fair Pageant Directors. Well-wishers are asked not to rush the

stage until photos by official pageant photographer have been completed.

8. The first runner-up must be willing to assume all duties in the event the winner is unable or

unwilling to fulfill her reign.

9. Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Queen 2022 will need to meet with the Isle of Wight County

Fair Pageant Directors prior to leaving Windsor High School to discuss expected

responsibilities. Miss Isle of Wight County Fair 2022 will sign a contract agreeing to

participate in civic activities, fair events, and the 2023 Miss Isle of Wight County Fair

Scholarship Pageant.

10. Contestant must be at every rehearsal in order to participate. All rehearsals are closed to the

public unless announced otherwise by the Isle of Wight County Fair Pageant Directors.

11. Contestant will compete in private interview, personality wear, public speaking, evening gown,

and an unrehearsed on-stage question. This procedure may change without notice.

12. Contestant must submit a completed application packet with fees to:

**Note: a 3% convenience fee will be charged for all credit card payments.

Areas of Competition and Contestant Requirements

PRIVATE INTERVIEW (40%) Judging will be based on personality, poise, speaking ability, personal

achievement in education, and civic community participation. Interviews will be 5 minutes in length.

Questions will start immediately after the contestant’s introduction. At the 4:30 mark, the contestant will

be stopped and will be given an additional 30 seconds to complete the question in progress OR make a final

statement on any topic of their choosing OR she may conclude the interview. Interviews will end at the 5-

minute mark. A schedule will be distributed at a later date with your start time. Please arrive to the interview

area 10 minutes prior to your start time. Required dress for interview competition is a tasteful short dress

or pantsuit with jewelry and footwear that complement the outfit. No cocktail attire, please. All interviews

are scheduled for Saturday, August 13, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am at the Carrollton Nike Park Mary Wells

Senior Building (13036 Nike Park Road, Carrollton, VA 23314). Rehearsal will begin at 1:00 pm at the

conclusion of the last interview in the Nike Park Recreation Hall.

OPENING NUMBER “Stars and Stripes in Isle of Wight” The opening number will be a simple dance

routine taught at rehearsal. The opening number outfit will consist of denim bottoms (jeans- no rips or

holes, skirts or shorts of modest length) and red shirt provided at interviews. Have fun with your design and

accessorize as you please to match our stars & stripes theme! NO TRAINS or OVERSKIRTS permitted.

After the opening number is completed, each contestant will proceed to the microphone to introduce herself,

giving her name and contestant number.

PERSONALITY WEAR (15%) Your personality wear will be modeled in a fast-paced modeling pattern

which will be taught at rehearsal. An outfit of your choice that best displays your personality is to be worn.

Each contestant will present her community engagement speech while wearing this outfit. Please be tasteful,

yet youthful when choosing this outfit as it will be representative of you. Outfits that could serve as

evening wear are STRONGLY discouraged. Judging of this portion will be on appearance, poise, and

personality.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (15%) Each contestant will be given up to 30 seconds to speak on the

value of community service or a platform in which they are involved and intend to promote if they are

selected Miss Isle of Wight County Fair. Do not over-rehearse your speech. Contestants will be judged on

their ability to spread awareness and encourage others to advocate for their cause as well as their stage

presentation. Do not state your name or contestant number in your speech. If the contestant goes over the

30-second time limit, five (5) points per judge will be deducted from her OVERALL score.

EVENING GOWN COMPETITION (15%) Contestants will model their evening gown of choice in a

modeling pattern taught at rehearsals. Judging of this portion will be on appearance, poise, and stage

presence.

ON STAGE QUESTION (15%) Each contestant will be asked an on-stage, unrehearsed question.

PHOTOGENIC AWARD Each queen is required to bring ONE (5x7) BLACK AND WHITE

HEADSHOT in a simple black frame (no matting) to the interview. Please identify with name and

division TYPED on a small white label placed on the bottom right corner, under the glass. To protect

the photo, do not stick the label on the photo. Photos will be judged and Miss Photogenic will be named.

These photos will be on display in the lobby during the pageant. Please collect your photo after the

pageant. The Isle of Wight County Fair Pageant will NOT be responsible for photos that are left behind.

DRESSING AREA A dressing area will be provided during the pageant only. It will open Sunday at 12:30

pm and close at the completion of the pageant. This area will be for contestants, designated Isle of Wight

County Fair Pageant personnel, AND ONE (1) assistant per contestant. A wristband will be provided

to each assistant that must be worn at all times. Hanging racks and dressing tables are limited and you are

STRONGLY encouraged to bring your own. PLEASE COME PREPARED – There are no mirrors in

the dressing area.

PAGEANT TICKETS Tickets will be available for purchase beginning August 1, 2022 online at a rate of

$10 for adults ages 10 and up and $5 for children ages 5-9 (+3% credit card fee). A link will be sent out via

email and posted on the Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Facebook/Instagram accounts. Admission tickets

will also be sold at the door on the day of the pageant. All ticket sales at the door are CASH ONLY. All

ticket sales (online or at the door) are nonrefundable.

CONTESTANT ORDER Contestant order will be determined by the order in which application packages

are received. The earlier the package is received, the later in the lineup the contestant will be placed. If the

contestant prefers to compete first, please note that in the package. All contestant materials must be received

before the contestant is placed in the lineup.

Scholarship Rules

Scholarship prize will be paid to the winner at the completion of her reign assuming the winner

has fulfilled all duties per the signed 2022 Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Queen Contract. In the

event the winner is unable to fulfill the duties of her reign, the scholarship shall be forfeited and

either not paid or returned to the Isle of Wight County Fair in full.
