MISS EMMA I. SISSON

Dean of Residence

We extend to each member of the Ward-Belmont family our heartiest

greetings.

To the staff of the MILESTONES which has labored so diligently, we wish

to extend congratulations.

Now that another school year has gone by we can but wish the best for

the Seniors who leave us. To the others in the student body we pledge

our utmost endeavors to continue in the great cooperative work of

continuing at Ward-Belmont those ideals which are the permanent foun-

dations of worth-while advancement.

JOHN W. BARTON.

DR. JOSEPH E. BURK

Dean of Faculty

MISS ANNIE C. ALLISON

Principal of High School

It should be a source of much gratification to every owner

of a MILESTONES to know that her college ranks scholas-

tically with the best; to know that nine of every ten gradu-

ates who enter senior institutions make either satisfactory

or excellent records; to know that year by year the scho-

lastic average of her college is rising.

SENIOR SONG

We pledge now our love for our old W.-B.,

We vow to be ever true;

We pledge, too, our love for our dear Senior Class-

God bless them, the old and the new.

We'll hold high those colors, the Gold and the Blue;

Our banners shall kiss the sky.

Our faith all resisting, our goal for life's best,

Our motto, "To do or die."

The joys we have here will not fly as the leaves;

They'll last us life's journey through;

And the love we have now for the friendships we've made

Will live in our memories, too;

And though we must part from each other some day,

As Seniors have departed before,

The glorious spirit of old '34

Will linger for evermore.

SOCIAL CLUBS

At the south end of the campus lies Club Village, a group

of ten clubhouses clustered around the Old Tower. Of one

of these every boarding student is a member. The meeting

rooms of the four day-student clubs are found across the

street in a large house. In these fourteen clubs is found

the competitive life on the campus. They vie for high

scholastic honors as well as for victory in the various

athletic tournaments. Here, too, one finds the social life

centered in the club teas, dances, and open houses. The

high spot of the year for each is the annual dance which

calls for all the ingenuity and imagination of the members

and which brings forth charming results.

ALL-AROUND ATHLETE, 1933

HENRIETTA CHERRINGTON, A.K.

Henrietta Cherrington was chosen as last year's all-

around athlete. To qualify for this title, a girl must have

a good citizenship and academic, as well as athletic,

standing. She must enter a sport every season and, at

the end of the year, must have the highest number of

points in athletics. "Cherry" had a total of I 10 points.

With her natural aptitude for athletics she was most

known for her ability at tennis, swimming, and basketball.

Hockey practice began the first quarter

of the year. The new girls who did not

know the game had to think quickly in

order to compete with the old girls whohad had experience. However, when the

teams were finally organized, they con-

sisted of both old and new players. Each

club worked out its teamwork at early

morning practices. The games were

popular and caused much excitement.

Scores did not run high but each goal

was well won. The T. C.'s and Trl K's

managed to win all three of their games.

Those two teams fought the finals on

Thanksgiving Day. As the score wastied, 2 to 2, each one will have the cupfor one semester.

At the end of the season the hockeyvarsity was announced: Grace Bosserman,

Catherine Brown, Carolyn Eskridge,

Dorothy Funk, Elizabeth Glasgow, Becky

Hall, Mary Marjorie Lincoln, MarthaPyeatt, Mary Soper, Beverly Stone, andToska Ann von Borries.

Basketball practice which started

shortly before Christmas brought to

view much valuable material. The

inter-club tournament began in Janu-

ary with the Ariston-Eccowasin game

in which the -former was defeated

with a score of 2 1 to 32. As the

games progressed certain players

were outstanding, although on the

whole the teams were well matched.

The tournament brought forth a large

number of high scorers and a great

deal of excitement. The semifinal

game was played by the A. K.'s and

X. L.'s after which the X. L.'s, vic-

torious 44 to 32, were entitled to

meet the Tri K's in the final game.

This game, the climax of the season,

gave the championship to the Tri

K's by a score of 33 to 2 1.

Following the close of the tourna-

ment the Basketball Varsity was

named with Dorothy Glander, GU-

bertine Moore, and Ann Shaw at for-

ward, and Beverly Stone, Isobel Coul-

ter, and Grace Bosserman at guard.
