LEEAIn 2012, ITI underwent a string of audits and evaluations to become an Accredited User Training Company according to the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association.  At the time, ITI was the first professional training company in North America to be Accredited by LEEA.The process entailed: 1) A corporate audit of ITI as an organization. 2) A complete audit of all ITI course curriculum and examination processes. 3) Individual presentation skill audits of all ITI Instructors. 4) Facility audit(s) to determine compliance of ITI Training Centers.

The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) is established as the leading representative body for all those involved in the lifting industry worldwide.  The Association has played a key role in this specialized field for over half a century, from training and standards setting to health and safety, the provision of technical and legal advice, and the development of examination and licensing systems.

ITI RIGGING COURSES

8

IntroductionThe Master Rigger Course is generally recognized as the premier rigging training option in the industry, with over 30 years of customer demand to back the claim. The Master Rigger course has served those who have sought the “next level” of information and technical knowledge when it comes to rigging and load handling operations. The course exposes participants to a variety of equipment and applications which include multiple crane lifts, load turning with chain hoists, jacking and rolling using mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, incline planes and managing the center-of-gravity in all three axis.

Master Rigger follows a “learn it, see it, do it” format. Learning objectives are introduced and expanded upon during interactive classroom sessions (learn it). Students work in small groups in the training center, or yard at client locations, where instruction continues amongst the equipment and tools that will be used to conduct various load handling workshops (see it). Finally, under the guidance of highly experienced and highly skilled instructors, students will complete learning objectives with live loads (do it).

Purpose & ScopeMaster Rigger ultimately aims to enhance the participant’s knowledge base and increase skill levels by utilizing a variety of sophisticated rigging equipment to solve challenging load handling tasks. The scope of the course is refined to classroom interactive problem solving assignments and hands-on team projects that best deliver the most thorough understanding of advanced rigging principles and applications in the shortest amount of time.

Course ScheduleOpen enrollment Master Rigger courses at ITI Training Centers follow the following schedule:

• Days 1-4 Master Rigger Course

• Day 5 Rigger and Signalperson Qualification Exams (Optional)

Written and practical exams are administered by qualified ITI Examiners. Candidates who successfully pass the exams will receive a 5-year ITI Qualification. The qualifications meet the requirements of OSHA for both riggers and signalpersons. Rigger and signalperson qualification is optional, and the exams do carry a separate fee.

Rigger and signalperson qualification can be administered at client locations as well, and do not require the Master Rigger course as a prerequisite.

COURSE OUTLINEModule 1 Rigging Introduction

The trainee will become familiar with basic rigging terms, rigging gear capacity & use, and identify load control methods with various sling hitches.

Module 2 Rigging InspectionThe trainee will be able to recognize and evaluate field damaged rigging gear samples according to the guide-lines established by recognized industry standards.

Module 3 Rigging SelectionThe trainee will be able to select slings and rigging hardware based on anticipated loading and rigging method.

Module 4 Load Handling Activities

The trainee will be familiar with recognizing common load handling hazards, blocking practices, crane hand signals, and path of travel; as an introduction to completing a standard lift plan.

Module 5 Load Weight Estimation The trainee will be able to estimate the weight of a load.

Module 6 Center of Gravity The trainee will be able to estimate the load’s center of gravity.

Module 7 Sling Tension The trainee will be able to estimate the sling tension of a load.

Module 8 Load Distribution The trainee will be able to determine load distribution on various lifting systems.

Module 9 Chain Fall & Load Drifting The trainee will be able to determine tensions to chain falls and come-a-longs during drifting activities.

Module 10 Load Uprighting & Load Turning The trainee will be able to plan a controlled load turn and determine the weight of transfer.

Module 11 Levers, Jacking & Rolling

The trainee will be able to determine load weight of winches, jacks, rollers, and floors during special load handling activities which require moving the load horizontally.

Module 12 Winches & BlocksThe trainee will be able to determine the load weight of rigging blocks and the mechanical advantage necessary to move a load vertically or horizontally.

Module 13 Off-Level Pick Points The trainee will be able to calculate sling tensions for off-level pick points.

Module 14 Standard Lift Planning The trainee will be able to read and evaluate a standard lift plan.

Module 15 Risk Assessment & Rigging Plan Reference: ASME P30.1 Planning for Load Handling Activities.
