Vision Our vision is to reach every medically eligible child and bring hope, joy and happiness by granting their most cherish wishes irrespective of their cast, color and religion. 

Mission “We grant the wishes of children with life-

threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

History of Make-A-Wish Founded in 1980 by Scot Stahl, Linda Bergendahl-Pauling and Frank Shankwitz.

7-year-old Christopher James Greicius was suffering from ‘leukemia’.

His wish was to become a police officer.

Befriended by U.S Custom Office Tommy Austin and fulfilled his wish.

Accomplishments Nowadays, more than 32,000 volunteers.

has granted approximately more than 334,000 wishes worldwide since 1980.

Grants a wish every 40 minutes now.

Assets: 49.9 million USD (2011)

Process Children may be referred by:1. Medical professionals treating

the child.2. The child’s parents or

guardians.3. The child by him/herself. After fulfilling the required

criteria, the child’s wish is fulfilled on an apropriate time.

Governance1. National Board of Directors:

contributes a vast array of experience and skills. determines the mission and vision, evaluates and

supports the president and CEO.  protects Make-A-Wish’s assets.  enhances Make-A-Wish’s public standing, ensures

accountability, maintains legal integrity, and assesses its own performance.

2. Senior Leadership Team:  composed of Make-A-Wish’s top-level management. Each member is a National Office leader in

disciplines that include wish-granting,  fundraising, legal, brand advancement and operational activities.
