1ST WEEK :

1. (05.06.14) Farmers met : Mr. V.Rajaram [Cauvery Neer Pasana Vivasayegal Nala Sanga Seyal Thalaivar ,Valai Vivasayegal Sanga Thalaivar, Vivasayegal Sanga

Crop : Oilpalm

Area : 9 acre

About farmer : Mr. V.Rajaram , is growimg 9 acres of oilpalm and he is a big farmer. In 1 acre he has planted 57 plants . We saw the harvesting, loading and unloading of oilpalm

bunches. Later these will be taken to ariyalur oilpalm processing .

Bunch size harvested was around 25-40 kg.

2. (06.06.14)Farmers met : Periyasamy (small farmer)

Crop : Banana

Area : 1 acre 10 cent

Variety used : Nei poovan

Planting method : square planting

Plant population : 950 plants/acre.

Fertilizer application : once in 3 months i.e., 3rd , 6th and 9th month.

3. (07.06.14) farmers met : Krishnamoorthy

Place : Theethampalayam

He has done intercropping of sesame in 3rd ratoon banana.

SECOND WEEK : 1. (09.06.14) farmers met : Mr. Gurunathan (small farmer)

Crop : Casuarina

Area : 60 cents.

Planting method : square planting

Usually casuarina are grown in dry land areas but he is growing this in wetland.

Soil type : Alluvial type

Pruning : Done in rainy season.

2. (10.06.14) Held compaign on rain water harvesting.

We assembled around 500 students of nearby schools and held a rally on rain water harvesting . Also the vice president , Mr. Kamaraj , ward councellor Mr. Periyasamy

and Mr. Prabhakaran (SWARD) NGO.

3. (11.06.14) Farmer met : Mr. Selvaraj

Intercropping of cucumber in banana plants which is now in 8-9 leaf stage and after

18th leaf stage this plants will give high yield.

4. (12.06.14)farmers met : Mr. J.Manoharan , B.Sc Visual communication

Area : 3 acre.

Working as a professional photographer in Mumbai, but still has his land in which he is growing sugarcane in 3 acres of land .

The crop is in 3rd ratoon stage. He is following mulching technology out of all dried leaves which has reduced the attack of stemborer in sugarcane.

5. (13.06.14) farmers met : Mr. P.Jayabal ,” UZHALAVAR AAIVU MANDRA

He taught us the preparation and application of panchakavya in chilli . The quantity of products taken for this preparation is

Cow urine : 5 litre Cow dung : 4 kg

Milk :3 litre Curd : 2 litre Ghee : 1 litre.

Fertilizers application in brinjal : we made a mixture of urea , neem seed kernel powder @ 10 g / plant. Flowering starts on 15th day after the application of this

fertilizer.

THIRD WEEK
