Dear Colleagues,Greetings from Public Health Foundation of India! I am delighted to present you the Placement Brochure for the year 2021-22. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the invaluable support you have extended to us over the years.
In a very short span of time, Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) have made a niche by providing competency driven academic programs in public health. IIPHs create an inclusive and global learning environment, which prepare our students and alumni for future leadership challenges. Our alumni are working in diverse areas of public health in India and abroad and contributing to this cause in varied ways.
Our academic curriculum is benchmarked with the industry requirements and focus on field visits, case studies, class assignments, presentation, group work, journal clubs, research, hands on experience through dissertations and internships, which helps students identify and respond to current public health challenges. Alumni talks and Professional Skill Development sessions during the course, helps students develop their employability skills, which further develops a strong foundation for their career.
Our students of outgoing batches of MPH, MSc, MHA and PGDPHM program across IIPHs for academic year 2021-2022 comprises of enthusiastic, vibrant, energetic and professionally competent students with heterogeneous background, persona and motivation for working in public health and related disciplines. The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is a public private partnership launched in 2006 with support from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
PHFI was launched to redress the limited institutional capacity in India for strengthening training, research and policy development in the area of Public Health. The creation of PHFI was enabled by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and was supported by several state governments, foundations including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Welcome Trust and the philanthropic private sector. PHFI adopts a broad, integrative, multi-disciplinary and multi sectoral approach to public health and engages with the many dimensions of public health that encompass promotive, preventive and therapeutic services. PHFI aims to play an enabling role in the transformation of India’s health scenario by working collaboratively with all stakeholders in the health system. It provides technical support and assistance to state governments for informing and aiding governmental initiatives. It also engages with the research community, academia, NGOs, civil society and international agencies towards a collective action on health.

Over the past decade, PHFI has established five Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) located at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, Hyderabad in Telangana, Gurgaon in Delhi, Bhubaneswar in Odisha and Shillong in Meghalaya. The Indian Institute of Public Health – Gandhinagar (IIPHG) has been granted University status by a legislative act of Gujarat state in May 2015. These institutes help address the current shortage of trained public health professionals and workers by providing world class, India relevant programs in affiliation with renowned Universities. The institutes deliver the courses in partnership with the central and the state governments.
The mission of PHFI and IIPHs is to respond to Indias’ public health challenges, initiate and catalyse action for better health outcomes. The IIPHs strive to contribute towards creation of an effective public health workforce in the country. PHFI and its constituent Indian Institutes of Public Health are engaged in program and policy-relevant research, as well as imparting world-class education that is contextualized for the Indian setting. PHFI has also established several Centres of Excellence which work on cutting-edge evidence generation for informing public policy. These Centres of Excellence and our multidisciplinary team of researchers, with medical and non-medical backgrounds who specialize in technical areas such as health economics, health systems and financing, policy analysis, infectious diseases, chronic diseases, program management, epidemiology, clinical research, genetics, nutrition, biostatistics and demography bring a unique richness to the working environment at the Foundation.
The Indian Institutes of Public Health are delivering full–time one year Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health Management (PGDPHM); two year Master of Public Health (MPH); two year Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) and two year Integrated MSc and PhD Programmes in Clinical Research and Health Informatics. An internship/ training of 3-6 months is an important and mandatory component of each academic program. These programmes are aimed at fresh graduates as well as experienced professionals from medical & allied health sciences, life sciences, social sciences. The programmes are also attended by mid-level government officials nominated by the various State Governments.
Emerging as an institute of excellence in public health, our faculty brings multi-disciplinary experience and has hands on expertise in local, national, and international health settings.
These courses are targeted at a wide variety of graduates who are interested in public health training at large. The course eligibility criteria reflect the need for multi-disciplinary inputs that are vital to public health. IIPHs have over 65 highly qualified faculty and 100 technical staff with diverse experience. Their expertise is being put to good use in research, teaching and the practice of public health.

Why recruit IIPHs graduates?
Admissions to IIPHs are purely based on the candidates’ merit and caters to applicants with varied academic backgrounds. The unique selection criteria at IIPHs includes analysing the candidate’s attitude and focus towards the specialised field through a statement of purpose as a part of the application, followed by selection interview. This ensures selection of students who are not only the most capable but also those who are aligned to the specific course.
The course design is competency driven and caters to multiple-disciplines. The teaching methods includes seminars, group assignments, quizzes, case studies and role plays. We also offer professional skills development program (PDP) to prepare the students for employability after the course completion. Our academic programs include a 3-6 months internship and dissertation, which prepares the students to pursue a wide range of career paths post completion of the academic programs.
