Agra: A prominent pri-vate hospital - Paras Hospital - in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra was closed by authorities on Tuesday after its owner was allegedly caught on audio bragging about how the hospital shut off oxygen supply on April 27 for five minutes in a “mock drill” amid what the owner purport-edly claimed was an acute shortage of oxy-gen at his hospital dur-ing a raging Covid surge in the western UP town, and elsewhere in the state. The Uttar Pradesh government had ordered an inquiry into the inci-dent after outrage.

“We were told that even the Chief Minister cannot get oxygen, so start discharging pa-tients. Modi Nagar is dry. We started coun-seling families. Some were willing to listen but the others said they would not leave. I said ok let’s do a mock drill.

Vaccine Waste Will Affect Allocation: Centre Warns StatesNew Delhi: Covid vac-cine allocation to states may be negatively af-fected by high wastage rates, the government said Tuesday as part of its revised guidelines for the national vacci-nation drive.

The guidelines said the government - which has re-taken control of the vaccination drive - will procure 75 per cent of vaccines produced in India and distribute them to states “based on criteria such as popula-tion, disease burden and progress of vaccination”.

“Wastage of vaccine will affect the alloca-tion negatively,” the guidelines said.

New Delhi: India reported less than one lakh new coronavirus infections after a gap of 63 days, while the daily positivity rate dropped to 4.62 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. Challenging the sus-pension of Mayor Dr Somya and three coun-cillors, BJP leaders led by state party presi-dent Satish Poonia mentioned that the state government ob-structed the work of the Mayor and the Board ever since they assumed office.

Even the chairmen of various committees were appointed only af-ter the order of the Ra-jasthan High Court. The letter mentioned issue of garbage collec-tion and tussle erupting out of it. They alleged Commissioner Yagya Mitra Singh Deo left the meeting called by May-or on June 4 and asked for bills of BVG com-pany to be paid first. The side of suspended Mayor and councillors was not heard by the in-vestigating officer and they be reinstated, the leaders demanded.

Jaipur: The manner, in which Sheel Dhabhai assumed the charge of acting Mayor of Great-er JMC on Tuesday, has become a talking point in the political circles. Dhabai was ordered to assume the charge in place of suspended Mayor Dr Somya.

Dhabhai, an ex-May-or, has been one of the main contenders for post of Mayor when elections were held ear-lier this year. After as-suming the charge at JMC Greater headquar-ters on Tuesday morn-ing, Dhabhai immedi-ately slipped into ‘full time Mayor mode’.

She said that every-thing has changed and there is no employee who does not want to work as employees are also a part of the socie-ty. Dhabhai refused to comment on the sus-pension of Dr Somya. “I have to focus on the new responsibility given to me as Mayor,” she said.

The state gov-ernment had already fi led a caveat in the matter on Monday in the court. Meanwhile, LSG dept issued notices to Dr Somya and 3 suspended BJP councillors sought reply in 3 days so that they could give their explanation. Dept has to start judicial probe against the four, therefore issuing notices under section 39(3) of Municipal Act is a part of probe process. Dept will frame allegation, after which matter will be sent for judicial probe by District Judge rank offi cer.

Jaipur: Upping the ante against the Congress government on suspen-sion of JMC Greater Mayor Dr Somya, BJP leaders and workers on Tuesday held statewide protests wearing black bands and raising anti-government slogans.

The protests were held while maintaining Covid-19 protocols.

“Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot always talks about morality and democracy but the recent decision to sus-pend the Mayor and three councillors re-flects that there is a dif-ference in what they say and what they do,” Poo-nia said. He said that suspending the mayor and three councillors shows the state govern-ment’s vengeance.

“BJP has today pro-tested against undemo-cratic and dictatorial decision across the state,” he said.

Poonia said that this is the first time that the misuse of Section 39 of the Municipal Act has happened in the state.

ot many would re-member the Bosnian war, or Balkan war, which lasted from 1992-95 between Ser-

bia and Bosnia, parts of the erstwhile Yugoslavia. Few would remember Bosnian Serb army leader Ratko Mladic. The war, fought among Orthodox Christian Serbs, Muslim Bos-nians and Catholic Croats, be-came infamous for the mass killings of Muslims. It came to be regarded as the worst ethnic cleansing in Europe after World War-2. It was Mladic who was accused of orchestrating the killing of thousands of Muslim men and boys after segregating them from their female kin at Srebrenica in July 1995.

Mladic faced trial for his hor-rific crimes. The trial at the In-ternational Criminal Tribunal for the erstwhile Yugoslavia in The Hague began in 2012. Mlad-ic, the butcher of Bosnia, was sentenced to life in prison in 2017 but he appealed against the verdict which was dismissed on Tuesday. For thousands of wom-en who lost their sons, brothers, husbands and fathers the ver-dict should act as a salve.

The raids also led to the re-covery of tons of drugs, a huge cache of arms and large amounts of cash. More importantly, the global string using a messaging app helped prevent several murders from being com-mitted. The operation led jointly by the American Fed-eral Bureau of Investigation and Australian police, in-volved several countries of

the world and is being hailed as a “watershed moment”. The operation involved in-vestigating agents secretly distributing encrypted de-vices with ANoM chat appli-cations among criminals. Australian police said 12,000 of these devices were used by around 300 criminals in

over 100 countries. All of these chats were monitored by the police.

This knockout punch dealt by the police of several coun-tries will send crime syndi-cates reeling in several of these countries and help bring down organized crime. The full list of countries tak-ing part is not yet known but the operation probably left out drug cartels in Asia where they are very strong. The feasibility of similar joint operation in any of the Asian countries will always be in doubt for various rea-sons. For instance, Pakistani agencies use drug money to fund terror in the region. In-dia’s most wanted, Dawood Ibrahim, who is living under the protection of ISI, is said to be one of the world’s big-gest drug mafia.

To cleanse the society of dangerous criminals the world needs more such oper-ations.

This holds the key to take us to a new plateau — and permit us to untangle our-

selves from our ‘invented’ emotions and dispositions. It will also propel us to under-stand ourselves as spiritual beings — not just a corporeal body with a mind and soul. The rest is pictured reality — when our sense of self-consciousness inflates, it ‘lifts’ us to a higher level of consciousness. Call it mind-ful, mystical, spiritual, or celestial, awareness — or, what you may.

Such awareness, or mind-fulness, is the most persua-sive therapeutic entity that exists within each of us. It supplements and drives eve-ry function and process of our body. It ‘ups’ our normal healing processes with a gush of curative energy that directly influences every bit of illness. This leads to noth-ing short of easing our anxi-eties and fear of illness — while signalling the swelling stimulus for our expanding spiritual consciousness that embraces everything in us. This includes our thoughts, tissues, cells, or anything that you’d connect to — with-in us and outside of us. It mirrors our conviction too — not just a feeling, but a rev-

elation that each of us has in full measure. For our own and also everyone’s good.

When you place them all — spiritual awareness, con-sciousness of being, the di-vine context, or mindfulness — in one hamper, they repre-sent our whole conscious ex-perience. Of each of us being the personification of all our contemplative thoughts that take place in our mind vis-à-vis the self — including the ‘divine entity’ in us. This ap-pears simple on the surface; but, it is actually profound, also intense. This is because

no matter the quantum of our life experiences, there are certain thought process-es that are just fleeting. They are also ephemeral; not abid-ing. It is only when we under-stand the steady state of our conscious awareness — our inner self — that our con-scious responsiveness be-comes enduring, also percep-tible, as it were. This is not just spiritual unity, but also our ‘invisible’ connection with the divine.

We all need a relentless, long-term sense of aware-ness — this helps each of us to reach the most profound level of our unconscious self. This is, of course, not as easy to achieve as it may sound. The reason being — what we knowingly experience, or ap-preciate, as the divine is clearly limited to our uncon-scious self, including the pe-rimeter of our thoughts and feelings from deep within and from the inside out. What is also significant is far be-yond a specific point — we ought to surrender to the ‘di-vine in us’ to take the next step. Once this happens, we rise above the monotonous and attain a lasting state of conscious awareness — one that is in complete sync with the cosmos, or the universe. Our subsequent progress is predictable. As the divine in us takes the initiative, it helps us to surmount most challenges of everyday life through our own conscious awareness.

The advent of such a state occurs through transforma-tion — where the divine ele-ment expands. To know it from the inside out is not simple, because transforma-tion does not illustrate itself in a form we’d, perhaps, un-derstand. One possible, or useful, mode of knowing what is what, as it is, is through self-awareness. When the self gets enhanced and connects with the divine, you get a feeling that the di-vinised self is all there to feel and emote.

It is not that one should be clued-up to separate the chaff of the self from the di-vine grain, miss the plot, while surpassing the com-monplace. Well, if one were extremely receptive and humble to the point of being self-effacing, it would all ap-pear like a ‘big leap’ forward for the ‘divine in us’ — a state of breathtakingly surging spiritual experience. This is something you’d describe in-tensely and also just as ar-ticulately — as you’d want to — while breaking new ground and achieving a re-laxed, harmonious state in the deep recesses of your mind, body and soul.

DEATH TOLL RISES TO 62 IN PAKISTAN’S TRAIN ACCIDENTKarachi: The death toll in Monday’s train collision in Pakistan’s Sindh province rose to 62 on Tues-day, according to media reports, even as the Op-position parties demanded an immediate probe into the reasons for one of the country’s worst train accidents. Cong demands Parl Session to discuss Covid vaccine policy

New Delhi: The Centre should clarify in Parlia-ment its policy and roadmap for providing COVID vaccines to all by December, the Con-gress said on Tuesday, as it alleged that the government was driven by headlines and not deadlines and asked why people still have to pay for the jabs at pri-vate hospitals.

Govt hopeful of holding Monsoon Session: Joshi

New Delhi: The gov-ernment is hopeful that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will begin on its normal schedule in July, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pral-had Joshi said on Tues-day amid the second wave of COVID-19.

Since the pandemic began, three sessions of Parliament were cur-

tailed and the winter ses-sion last year had to be cancelled. Last year, the Monsoon Session, which usually starts in July, had begun in September. Sources said the modali-ties of holding this year’s Monsoon Session are still being discussed. “I am hopeful that Parlia-ment session will be held as per its normal sched-

ule starting in July,” Mr. Joshi told PTI.

The authorities are confident of holding the session in July it-self as most of the par-liamentarians, staff members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats and other stakeholders have re-ceived at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine.

CEC Chandra writes to Law Minister PrasadNew Delhi: Chief Elec-tion Commissioner Su-shil Chandra has writ-ten to Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad request-ing for expedited action on the electoral reform proposals pending with the government, in-cluding the one which seeks an enhanced two-year jail term for those furnishing incorrect information in their poll affidavit.

“I have written to the law minister to expe-dite these proposals and hopefully they will be taken up early by the ministry,” Chandra told PTI.

Enhancing the impris-onment period for those furnishing incorrect de-

tails in poll affidavits from existing six months to two years is a key elec-toral reform proposal of the Election Commis-sion. A two-year jail term could bar the candi-date from contesting elections for six years. “The present six-month imprisonment does not lead to disqualification,” lamented Chandra.

New Delhi: Prime Min-ister Narendra Modi Tuesday announced the ‘Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors’ (YUVA) scheme, a men-torship programme to train young authors.

The scheme is aimed at training 75 aspiring writers below 30 years, who are ready to ex-press themselves and project India and its cul-ture and literature glob-ally. A consolidated scholarship of Rs 50,000 per month for a period of six months per au-thor will be paid under the mentorship scheme.

Sharing the link to the official webpage of the programme, PM Modi tweeted, “Here is an interesting opportu-nity for youngsters to harness their writing skills and also contrib-ute to India’s intellec-tual discourse,”

Through this scheme, govt aims to bring read-ing & authorship as a preferred profession at par with other job op-tions. It is also expected to impart a positive psy-chological push to young minds amidst the impact of Covid-19.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed states and Union Territories to stop illegal adoption of children who were orphaned or abandoned during the Covid-19 pandemic. Passing a slew of directions on a suo motu petition with regard to protection of rights of children affected by the pandemic, a bench of justices L Nageswara Rao and Aniruddha Bose said, “The state governments/Union Territories are directed to take action against those NGOs/individuals who are indulging in illegal adoptions.” The court was informed about adoption posts circulating on various social media platforms.

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted protection to a young couple involved in a live-in relationship, observing that it is not for the courts to judge them if they want to stay together without sanctity of marriage. The order of the single bench came following a peti-tion by a 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old-man from Punjab’’s Bathinda who sought protection of their life and liberty from the family members.

Three main accused in the murder of NRI entrepreneur Bhaskar Shet-ty in 2016, including his wife and son, were on Tuesday sentenced to life by a court in Udupi. The Udupi district and sessions court Judge J N Subrahmanya awarded life imprisonment to Shetty’s wife Rajeshwari Shetty, son Navneet Shetty and astrologer Niranjan Bhat. —ANI

FOLLOW COVID-19 PROTOCOLS TO AVERT FUTURE WAVE: GOVTGovt stressed on avoiding large gatherings for a couple of months New Delhi: The gov-ernment on Tuesday stressed following COV-ID-19-appropriate be-haviour to avert any future wave, even as it noted that there has been a continued and sharp decline in daily new coronavirus cases in the country.

In a joint press brief-ing on the pandemic situation, Health Minis-try Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said almost 79 per cent decline in daily new COVID-19 cases has been noted since the peak on May 7.

There has been a con-tinued and sharp de-cline in daily new cases, he said on the second wave of COVID-19.

India reported 86,498 coronavirus cases, the lowest in 66 days, and 2,123 deaths, according to Health Ministry data on Tuesday.

On May 7, the coun-try saw a record 4,14,188 new coronavirus infec-tions.

Agarwal said India has reported 20,822 cor-onavirus cases and 252 deaths per million pop-ulation, which is among the lowest in the world.

The government stressed on following COVID-19-appropriate behaviour till the popu-lation is vaccinated, to avert any future wave.

The government also stressed on the need to avoid large gatherings for a couple of months even though states have announced relaxations in lockdown guidelines in view of the declining number of cases.

No evidence proves 3rd wave will impact kids: AIIMS chiefNew Delhi: Dr Randeep Guleria, the director of Delhi’s All India Insti-tute of Medical Scienc-es (AIIMS), said on Tuesday that there is no evidence to suggest that the next wave of Cov-id-19 will cause serious infection in children. “I don’t think we will have a serious infection in children in the future,” said Guleria during a press briefing of the Un-ion ministry of health and family welfare.

Guleria said data col-lected from both the Covid waves showed that neither new vari-ants nor the old ones caused severe infection in children. “No data, global or Indian, has had any observations of children being af-fected more. Even in the

data from second wave kids who were infected had mild illness or co-morbidities,” he said. “In many parts of the

world where new waves are happening there’s no data to show chil-dren are being severely affected,” he added.

Jaipur: In a letter writ-ten to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore has said that health of about 2 crore popula-tion in 10 districts of the state is at stake due to release of chemical-laden water from Pun-jab.

He has asked the chief minister to con-duct an emergency meeting with Punjab government at the earli-est. Rathore said that

Jaipur: The Rajasthan HC administration on

Monday extended the lockdown till June 28 in

subordinate courts while maintaining the earlier

arrangement. Since April 20, only urgent mat-

ters are being heard in the lower courts. Reg-

istrar General Nirmal Singh Medatwal issued

a notifi cation to extend the lockdown under

the modifi ed lockdown guidelines of the state

government. The High Court administration has

also extended all interim orders till June 28.

Jodhpur: Reacting to the death of a six- year old girl due to thirst in Jalore, Union Jal Shakti Minister Ga-jendra Singh Shekha-wat on Tuesday said that depriving people of basic resources like water for politics is a grave sin.

He said that the inci-dent is inhuman, un-fortunate and very sad.

“What would be a bigger irony for the people of Rajasthan that on the one hand, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, water is

reaching households across the country and on the other hand a girl child dies due to thirst in Rajasthan,” he said.

“Why the govern-ment of Rajasthan is not taking the mission seriously. Rajasthan stands at 29th place among 33 states and union territories in the execution of the mission,” he said.

The Union Minister said that in the year 2020-21, Rs2522 crore was allocated to the Rajasthan govern-ment out of which only Rs 630 crore was spent.

Jaipur: Chief Secre-tary Niranjan Arya on Tuesday gave in-structions to officers to ensure maximum rainwater harvesting to address the water crisis in the state.

In a review meet-ing through video conference at the Sec-retariat on ‘Jal Shak-ti Abhiyan-Catch the

Rain’, Arya directed to save more rain wa-ter in every possible way in the state. He also said more than

7,000 structures will be built for rainwater harvesting in the fields of farmers.

Bikaner: A family in the Shridungargarh village of Bikaner lost five members in a trag-ic road accident on Tuesday.

The villagers are mourning the death of three of Mahavir Pras-ad Mali’s five sons. While Mali’s eldest son Lalchand Mali and his wife Maina Devi died in the accident, another son Hariprasad Mali lost his wife and 21-year-old son. The youngest son Kishore Mali who currently lives in Japan lost his wife. His seven

daughters are now or-phaned. Their youngest daughter is merely 2 years old.

He took a loan five years ago which rose to 12 lakhs. Unable to clear debts and bear the mon-ey lenders’ harassment, the man took his life.

In a tragic incident, a tractor mowed down a child at Pondla in Jhala-war. Her mother is also seriously injured in the accident. Meanwhile, two people died on the spot in a horrifi c road accident that happened near Uttu Mor on Bharatpur Road. Bodies were handed over to the relatives after con-ducting a post-mortem.

Bikaner/Barmer: The anti-corruption bureau on Tuesday arrested the chief accounts officer of Sardar Patel medical college of Bikaner and a clerk of gram pan-chayat in Barmer in separate cases of graft.

The chief accounts officer of the medical

college in Bikaner KK Goyal was caught red-handed by the ACB team while taking a bribe of Rs50,000 in lieu of clearing an old pay-ment against the supply of oxygen cylinders.

After the trap, the anti-corruption bureau conducted raids at the residence of the ac-cused officer during

which Rs 32.50 lakh in cash, FD of Rs 48 lakh, documents pertaining to investment in share market, gold and silver ornaments etc.

In Barmer, the clerk of Deluo ka Tala gram panchayat Jagdish Nath was arrested while tak-ing a bribe of Rs20,000 to include the names of MGNREGA workers for the payment of wages. He had demanded Rs200 per worker. After verifi-cation of the complaint, a trap was laid and the accused was held.

CS holds meeting with Punjab on CM’s orderFirst India Bureau

Jaipur: Expressing deep concern over the issue of contaminated water, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has directed Chief Sec-retary Niranjan Arya to hold emergency talks with the higher officials of Punjab government to solve the problem.

On the instructions of the CM, Arya spoke to his counterpart in the neighbouring state and urged him to take immediate action for the prevention of pol-luted water. He con-veyed the concerns of Rajasthan by writing a letter in this regard.

Op-posing this, PP Rajpal Singh Rathod said that ACB had arrested him on the basis of solid evidence. Prosecution sanctions are still pend-ing and not dismissed.

CAN STATE GOVT RESTORE BOARD OF REVENUE'S LOST HONOUR?Rajendra Chhabra

ow that the State govern-ment has re-ceived some respite from

Corona and the state work is again gaining momentum, the govern-ment has now set focus on its agendas. Amongst all, one of the major agendas is to bring the Board of Revenue back on its track and to revive and restore its honour. After the ‘historic’ raid by the Anti Corruption Bureau, the entire Board has come to a collapse. Its Chairman - R. Ven-kateshwaran - has come under controversies and suspicion and two of its members - Sunil Shar-ma and BL Meharda - have been arrested whereas, the third mem-ber, who is also under suspicion - Manoj Ku-mar Nag - is set to retire in the ongoing month. Therefore, the appoint-ment of new Chairman and members has be-come a necessity.

The post of Chair-man is a cadre based post on which officers only of the grade and pay scale of Chief Sec-retary can be deputed.

As of now, there are 6 ACS available namely Ravishankar Srivasta-va, Veenu Gupta, Pawan Kumar Goyal, Rajesh-war Singh, Subodh Agarwal and Sudhansh Pant. However, of these, since Ravishankar had fallen under controver-sy during his previous stint, hence he can not be sent to Board yet again. Subodh Agarwal and Sudhansh Pant are holding important posi-tions in Secretariat and therefore, there appears to be no logic in distrub-ing them from their cur-rent assignment.

This leaves three IAS, who are serving as ACS, but are senior to the Chief Secretary and are therefore ‘paying’ for the seniority by being post-ed outside the Secretari-at. These three are Veenu Gupta, Pawan Kumar Goyal and

Rajeshwar Singh. Of these 1987 batch IAS Veenu Gupta is the sen-ior most and is serving as Chairman of Pollu-tion Control Board. On seniority basis, she can be a serious candidate but keeping in mind ‘other factors’, she is un-likely to leave Jaipur. At the time of Niranjan Arya as CS, she was also a strong contender. Moreover, her husband is former CS DB Gupta, who is currently serving as Chief Information Commissioner and lives in the bungalow allotted to his wife at Jaipur.

A 1988 Batch IAS Pawan Kumar Goyal is serving as the Chair-man of the Rajasthan Canal Board, where the work load is extremely minimal and for several days, not even a single file comes to the table of the Chairman. Goyal is

a hard task master and has an immense experi-ence of handling affairs such as Education, Transport, GAD, UDH and Agriculture Depart-ments. He has proved his mettle while serving as Registrar of Coopera-tives, Commissioner Ra-jasthan Housing Board and Chairman Pollution Control Board. There-fore, he is more than ca-pable of handling the affairs of Board of Rev-enue although it is being said that he is caught up in family issues.

A 1989 batch IAS Rajeshwar Singh is serving as CMD of RSRTC and apart from serving as the chief of Panchayati Raj Depart-ment from 2018 to 2020, he has never held a ma-jor assignment in previ-ous governments. After taking over the reins of Roadways in November

2020, he has proved his capabilities in manag-ing covid. However, the challenge posed by Board of Revenue is far greater than Roadways. Infact, the word in bu-reaucratic circles is that Singh is running from pillar to post to en-sure that he is not sent to Ajmer to handle Board of Revenue.

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that along with agricul-ture, animal husbandry activities also play an important role in our economy. “There is im-mense potential for the development of this sec-tor in Rajasthan. Keep-ing this in mind, the state government has made many important announcements in the field of animal husband-ry in the budget. Efforts should be made to fulfil these announcements in a time bound manner, so that the share of this sector in the state’s GDP increases and the in-come of farmers and livestock farmers also increases,” Gehlot said while addressing the re-view meeting of Animal

Husbandry Department and Rajasthan Co-oper-ative Dairy Federation (RCDF) through video conference from the Chief Minister’s resi-dence on Tuesday.

“During our last ten-ure, we had started Mukhyamantri Pashud-han Free Medicine Scheme, understanding the suffering of ani-mals. Now work is be-ing done to strengthen the medical facilities for livestock up to vil-lage and dhani. For this, new veterinary sub-centres are being opened in 1478 gram panchayats across the state in a phased man-ner and 200 veterinary sub centres and 198 vet-erinary dispensaries are being upgraded to veterinary hospitals,” Gehlot said and direct-

ed the officers that these budget announce-ments should be com-

said that in view of the

abundance of livestock in Rajasthan, there is a huge potential for the

development of dairy. “There are still a large number of villages in the state, which have not yet been associated with the dairy sector in an or-ganized manner. RCDF should expand Saras Dairy by connecting these areas. Like agricul-ture, processing should be promoted in dairy also. Along with this, em-phasis should be given on effective marketing of dairy products by ex-panding their range on a large scale. This is such a sector, through which huge employment op-portunities can be cre-ated and it can be an im-portant step in increas-ing the prosperity of farmers and livestock farmers,” Gehlot said.

The Chief Minister directed that allotment of new dairy booths

should be expedited by running a special cam-paign in the state. “In the next two months, more and more dairy booths should be allot-ted. These dairy booths would be able to become a means of livelihood for the people from the point of view of em-ployment in these diffi-cult circumstances of Covid. People would not only get employment through dairy booths, but it would also help in expanding the dairy sector in the state,” he said, further adding, “Special emphasis should be laid on con-servation and promo-tion of improved breeds of cows in the state.”

Meanwhile, Agricul-ture and Animal Hus-bandry Minister Lal-chand Kataria said that

veterinary sub-centres and veterinary hospitals are being opened in the state to promote animal husbandry activities and veterinary facilities up to village and dhanis. “Efforts are being made to take services on ur-gent temporary basis to meet the shortage of vet-erinary personnel till the recruitment process is completed perma-nently,” he said.

Gopalan Minister Pramod Jain Bhaya said that the department is working with full com-mitment for the strengthening of Gaush-alas in the state. He said that efforts are being made to speed up the ex-pansion of dairy booths by coordinating with the Urban Bodies De-partment and the Coop-eration Department.

In the next two months, more and more dairy booths should be allotted. These dairy booths would be able to be-come a means of livelihood for the people during the Covid crisis.

MLAs seek refund of `3 cr from MLA fundFirst India Bureau

Jaipur: With the Cen-tre announcing free vax for all, the Rajasthan MLAs are now hoping refund of Rs 3 crore de-ducted from their MLA LAD fund. The fund was deducted on the direc-tion of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for pur-chasing vaccine through global tender. Now, as the Centre will purchase and provide free vaccination, the MLAs are eyeing refund of Rs 3 crore, which they can use in their re-spective constituencies. The contribution had raised Rs 600 crore.

The CM Ashok Ge-hlot will take the final decision with regard to refund, said official sources. As such there may be a rethinking on the decision of the de-ducted salary of the of-ficers.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s State Chief Spokesperson and MLA Ramlal Sharma thanked PM Narendra Modi for providing free vaccine across the country while demand-ing Rs 3 crore back. “I would like that the Ra-

While recalling his journey to the industry, Akash says, “I did my first ramp show in Jaipur at the age of 17. ed to act for the rest of my life and there was no turning back after that. I did a lot of com-mercials and also featured in two music videos - Noor for T-Series and ‘Jaate hue pal’ for Zee Music.”

He started mak-ing a foray into the television industry when he bagged a role in Kasauti Zindagi Kay. Akash rose to fame and gained recog-nition after ‘Kasauti Zind-agi Kay’. Jaspal Sin-gh had qualified Engi-neering Services Ex-amination (ESE) exam-ination-2011 with AIR-04 as well as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engi-neering (GATE) exami-nation-2011 with AIR-06 and later joined as an assistant engineer in CPWD. But, he ulti-mately gave up his posi-tion. His passion in-spired him to teach students who were devoid of proper guidance for clear-ing one of the tough-est exam conducted by the Govern-ment of India, e s p e c i a l l y during the pan-demic.

The impact of Covid-19

Covid has impacted the whole world and there is no doubt that the pan-demic will change the

world as we know it. The Indian hospitality sector has been hit badly and is left with nothing but very low demand and very few scopes of bookings in the future. Social worker Sanjay Sardana shared his concern for the Hotel industry, in an exclu-sive interview with City First!

“These travel bans, border closures, event cancellations, quarantine requirements and fear of spread, have placed ex-treme challenges on the tour-ism and hospitality sectors. Where big hotels still have hopes, small and struggling ho-tels are looking for exit accord-ing to sources. Since this sector generates a lot of employment, it has also contributed to higher

unemployment rates. Daily wa-gers, waiters, cooks, drivers are now unemployed and have no other work to do. The hotels are

also experiencing wastage of the food material that was stocked up,” he said. He further added, “If we talk about the food sector, lockdown made people explore cooking which in turn had a shocking effect on the food industry. People also pre-ferred cooking instead of order-ing because of hygiene issues.

Not only this, nowadays peo-ple are ordering homemade food from small startups run by mostly housewives.

Trends like ‘staycation’ and ‘workcation’ are being opined by hospitality professionals to remain dominant in near fu-ture. Food sectors are still alive because of home deliveries, Zo-mato and Swiggy. While the pandemic has brought the hotel sector in India to its worst, we hope that the industry will be in recovery mode very soon. The Government has already taken several steps in the right direc-tion by announcing its plans to set up a COVID-19 Taskforce to undertake measures necessary to combat the economic effects of the pandemic on the country.

Wave of COVID 19’ on Satur-day, June 5 with experts from World Health Organi-sation (WHO): Israel, Singa-pore, UK, USA, and In-dia. The session recog-nised how India despite its constraints has over-come the pandemic. It also assimilated key learnings from other nations which have dealt with the impact

of the pandemic earlier would help Yi build an ac-

tionable plan on the way for-ward for the stakeholders.

Delivering the keynote

address, Dr Soumya Swami-nathan, Chief Scientist, WHO shared, “If you neglect health then everything can come to a standstill and col-

lapse. Both physical and mental health is central and mental health has been dis-proportionally affected by the current pandemic. New innovations need to be initi-ated by talented youth. Youth are the future and they need to have a say. Their ideas need to be embraced, assessed, validated and scaled by policymakers.”

Continuing its green journey, Global Indian International School, Ahmedabad celebrated World Environment Day virtually this year. The school organised several activities to create awareness to conserve the mother Earth and its resources. New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital is donating ventila-tors, PPE kits,

masks and hand sanitis-ers for COVID relief ef-forts in India. The hospi-tal has given 10 ventila-tors, circuits, PPE kits, face shields, digital ther-mometers, N95 masks and hand sanitisers among essential medical supplies to the diaspora organisation Associa-tion of Indians in Amer-ica (AIA). Jaipur Foot USA will be in charge of sending the shipment to India and then distribut-ing it across various states.

Prem Bhandari, Jaipur Foot USA Chair-man expressed gratitude to eminent intervention-

al cardiologist Dr Samin Sharma, Director of In-terventional and Clinical Cardiology and Presi-dent, Mount Sinai Heart Network for his efforts in facilitating this assis-tance. Bhandari said it is because of the efforts of Sharma, who is also Chairman Board of

Trustees AIA, that the critical medical equip-ment will reach the needy hospitals and patients in India as the country battles a devastating second surge of coronavirus. His efforts need to be na-tionally commended.

Bhandari executed the

idea of Nirmal Gehlot and had given 21 oxygen concentrators on behalf

of Jaipur Foot USA to ‘Breath Bank’, an initiative launched in Jodhpur to help

provide critically-needed medical equip-ment to COVID-19 pa-tients. Bhandari paid

immense gratitude to Foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Uzbekistan embassy. He further added, “As early as the first week I gave them 11 instead of 10 to start the donation bank which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

I am pleased to hear of Prem Bhandari and Jaipur Foot USA’s work in arranging donations of medical equipment for Rajasthan and other

Indian states in coordination with Mt. Sinai hospital. This highlights the generosity of the American people and the close people-to-people ties between our countries”.
