Application Deadlines

Summer semester: October 15th – November 30th

Winter semester: April 15th – May 31st

I. Requirements: Students can only enroll in subjects at HU that they are taking at their home universities, except for Medicine and “Mind and Brain”.

Students should consider the choice of their subject carefully when completing the online application. Students can only take classes from the subject they registered for.

Undergraduate students can choose up to two subjects for their study plan, graduate students can only choose one main subject.

Courses are predominantly offered in German and most faculties require a minimum standard of German language skills for entry. The standard of German required by the faculties varies from subject to subject. Your level of proficiency in German is determined by an online test, the C-test. The test is part of the online application procedure (see below).

If you solely want to attend classes in English, you can select this option during the online application. Please be aware that particularly for undergraduate students the majority of courses and lectures offered at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin are in German.

If you are experiencing difficulties finding suitable classes in English, there is an additional program of classes in English offered at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin: Berlin Perspectives Perspectives – an international study module which you can participate in regardless of your major and minor subject:

Please check the courses of Berlin Perspectives here:

https://bolognalab.hu-berlin.de/en/projekte-des-bologna.labs-en/berlin-perspectives/berlin-perspectives-internationales-studienprogramm-1

II. Application Procedure:

Please begin by applying online via this link: https://huberlin.moveon4.de/form/59bbe71f84fb9647434c7eb9/eng

As part of your online application please take the C-Test. The C-Test consists of five short cloze texts that you have to complete. The test result will be registered in your online application. The maximum number of points that can be achieved is 100. Please remember that you can only take the C-Test once!

The test automatically terminates after 30 minutes. It cannot be retaken.

If you fail to achieve the required score of 50 points, you have the option to enroll in an intensive language course prior to the start of the semester in order to be accepted and attend classes in German.

The intensive course costs €450 and offers 100 hours of German language lessons in four weeks. Please refer to the following website for additional details about the intensive German language course at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

https://www.sprachenzentrum.hu-berlin.de/en/courses-and-registration/sdi/study-preparatory-german-intensive-course-daf

III. Student Accommodation

If you would like to stay in student accommodation, please register for a student dormitory room in the online application. You must register for a student dorm room in the online application by November 30th (summer term) / May 31st (winter term). You will be provided with further information after the application deadline has expired via email. If all rooms are occupied already, you will be put on a waiting list.

The minimum rental period for a student dormitory is 6 months

for winter term: September 1st – February 28th

for summer term: March 1st – August 31st

It is not possible to shorten or extend the rental period.

Please check our website for further information:

https://www.international.hu-berlin.de/en/studierende/aus-dem-ausland/accommodation-1?set_language=en

2. Statement concerning motivation / planned projects

3. Previous academic achievements (official transcript of records)

4. Learning Agreement (optional)
