he Univers i ty of Hyderabad (UoH) , one of the major

inst i tut ions of h igher educat ion in Ind ia i s largely

devoted to PG studies and is widely known for i ts

excel lence in research and d ist inguished faculty . Founded

in 1974 with Prof . Gurbaksh S ingh as i ts f i rst v ice

chancel lor , UoH has emerged as a leading center for

teaching and research. The 2500-acre campus is r i ch in

b io- d ivers i ty , with natural rock format ions, lakes and a

var iety of b i rds .

There are 46 d i f ferent departments and centers

organized in 12 Schools of study. The univers i ty has over

400 faculty members and over 5000 students . I t of fers a

range of 150 d i f ferent programs of study. The faculty of

the UoH has a h igh nat ional and internat ional prof i le

and has been rec ip ients of major nat ional and

internat ional awards. The Ind i ra Gandhi Memor ial L ibrary

( IGML) at the un ivers i ty has a col lect ion of more than

3.56 lakh books and other reference mater ial , I t i s a

ful ly computer ized l ibrary with spec ial software

forv isually challenged students . The univers i ty has bui l t

up a reputat ion for prov id ing h igh qual i ty academic

tra in ing and has been recognized with a number of

awards: PURSE, g iven by Pr ime Min ister of Ind ia, a

grading of A, by the Nat ional Assessment and

Accredi tat ion Counc i l (NAAC ) .The Univers i ty of Hyderabad

(UoH) has been awarded Inst i tut ion of Eminence ( IOE )

s tatus by the Univers i ty Grants Commiss ion (UGC) and the

Government of Ind ia, in the yaer 2019. The  Univers i ty of

Hyderabad  was  ranked  601-650 in the QS  World

Univers i ty Rank ings  of 2018 and. I t i s   ranked  11th in

Ind ia overal l and 4th in Ind ia among univers i t ies by the

Nat ional Inst i tut ional Rank ing Framework(NIRF) in the

year 2019. With the range of d isc ipl ines represented and

the qual i ty of the students and faculty the

he School of Management Studies (SMS) was

establ ished in May 1999. S ince i ts incept ion, the

school prov ides a h ighly conduct ive academic

env i ronment and interact ion with hard work ing,

industry academic professors .

As part of the academics i t of fers an AICTE approved

two-year ful l t ime res ident ial MBA program, PhD

program, MBA program in Healthcare and Hospital

Management( Inaugurated by Dr . A.P .J . Abdul

Kalam, in the year 2008) , MBA Bus iness Analyt ics

and has also introduced Execut ive MBA in the year

2019. With 650 books publ ished and over 10,000

research work, SMS, UoH has been ranked the 7th

Best Bus iness School accord ing to NIRF Col lege

rank ing. As a center , i t i s renowned for cutt ing edge

research, and prov id ing an interact ive teaching and

learn ing atmosphere. SMS has generated i ts own

ident i ty in developing new domains of manager ial

thought and educat ion that develops students into

The course work provides them the professional knowledge to be successful managers, the soft -skills training prepares them to be effective at communication and interpersonal skills, and the holisticprogram design develops them to be good citizens. SMS takes advantage of being part of University ofHyderabad. Our faculties work closely with each other in enhancing student learning and joint researchactivities. Students take advantage of this variety by taking courses from other schools that support theirconcentration. This helps our students develop a multidisciplinary perspective so important in the business worldtoday. The current economic scenario is highly competitive and requires participants to deal with uncertaintiesand turbulent situations while keeping an eye on performance. Healthcare is one of the fastest growing and the largest service sector in India.Healthcare operations calls for specifications, team work and time bound activities in a multi-tasking environment. Existing Healthcare organizations are expanding by opening hospitals in new service areas, and new organizations are entering with state of art equipment, latest technology and innovative strategies. Consequently, competition in the health care sector is on the rise. The government is also veering around to that view of public hospitals need to be runprofessionally with a view to strengthen technical and managerial support system , national rural healthmission also envisages recruitment of healthcare professionals, it is a matter of great pleasure that theschool of management studies has taken a lead to introduce a unique MBA(Healthcare & HospitalManagement) program at opportune time .The course curriculum is designed to provide students with thebusiness management & Healthcare Analytic skills needed to manage successfully in today's health caredelivery systems. The program emphasizes the identification, analysis, and solution of complex managementproblems with a foundation of health care concepts and decision models that will support the variety ofmanagement roles that can be seen in today's health care environment.The program is planned to strengthen the functional skills and deepen the understanding of multidimensionalhealth care organizations and a cover a wide range of subjects pertaining to business administration andhealth care management, the two year,4 semesters, full time on campus MBA (Health care and HospitalManagement) program is comprehensively structured such that apart from the class room didactic lecturesstudents spend a substantial amount of their learning in various health care delivery set ups where they areexposed to actual hands on practical training. During the period of study the student will be required tocarry out 8-weeks summer internship after completion of second semester and final internship in any healthcare organization during 4th semester. The students participate actively in number of seminars, workshopsand Presentations throughout the duration of the program which will help in developing self-confidence andthe ability to realize their full potential. The program content is further enriched from time to time by eminentguest faculty, innovative teaching methods and sessions which significantly contribute for continuousdevelopment. It gives me immense pleasure to associate with the program since its inception. The 4th Semester of the MBA (HC & HM)program is dedicated to making students‘industry and job ready’, and is called theFinal Internship Program. This internship acts like a bridgeconnecting student from their ‘studentlife’ to ‘professional life’. It is the timewhen these young minds are able to stepinto the real world and fulfill theirpurpose in life. The duration of theinternship is 4 to 5 months (January toApril 2019). The students will beengaging into a variety of subsets withinthe field of Healthcare. This period of Final Internship cumplacement is the practice enablingstudents to get practical exposure andunderstanding how the businessenvironment functions. It is the finalingredient added to the students in orderto make them ‘smart-working managersof tomorrow’. Each student is required to do a detailedstudy of what he or she has learnt andsubmit the thesis as Final InternshipProject. This project will be evaluated byIndustry experts all from different partsof India./*

During this time, the students areassociated with industrial activities in realtime scenario. The inhibition felt by mostfreshers while entering the ‘work world’ isovercome, and they are familiarized withseveral aspects, both technical and softskills associated with work. The students are attached to anyHealthcare organization for the entire 4thsemester. The operation of FinalInternship is done with supervision ofindustry guide (External) and Internalguide (Faculty) with periodic reviews.  The critical evaluation of the finalinternship project is done by the IndustryProfessional(s) in the form of viva-voiceexamination. By the end of the Final Internship cumresidency program, each student evolves intoa confident personality with great caliber anda seasoned mind ready to take challenges.
