Assessment Philosophy: Assessment is the systematic process of gathering a variety of information over time, demonstrating what students know and can do, as well as
what they need to know. The role of assessment is to provide meaningful feedback for improving both student learning and instructional practice.
Internal Assessment Grading: Our Internal assessments in English Language Arts, and Mathematics are aligned with the US Common Core standards and expectations. Our
internal assessments in Science are aligned with the US Common Core standards and expectations.
Our Ministry of Education obligatory subjects are aligned with the Ministry’s curriculum standards and expectations.
Overall Grading Scale:
- KG The School is using the following scale to evaluate KG students’performance.
KG Grading Rubric Score Description
1 Below Expectation 2 Partially Meets Expectation 3 Fully Meets Expectation 4 Exceeding Expectation
- Grades 1-12:
The school is using the following standard conversion chart to convert all levels’ percentage grades to letter grades. This chart is also used to
calculate cumulative grade point averages (GPA) for high school students.
*Passing mark is 60% across all grade levels. Graduation Requirements as per the MOE for UAE Equalization: The following are the general conditions that must apply as part of the requirements for issuing an equivalency certificate of completion of high school: 1. The educational system and curriculum in the Private School must be recognized in UAE. 2. The awarding body that issues the certificate must be recognized by the Ministry of Education in UAE. 3. The Private School must be licensed and authorized to operate in UAE. 4. 4. Private School must be recognized by the awarding body that issues the certificate. 5. 9. All high school students (those studying in Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12) must take recognized standardized tests as appropriate to their
needs and grade level. Choices must also be linked to university and national equivalency requirements. The following is a list of
recognized standardized tests associated with US curriculum expectations

elective courses, including arts, must be available to high school students.
As a school that follows the American system and works under the affiliation of UAE Ministry of Education, we need to fulfill both American graduation and UAE equalization requirements.
International Standardized Tests: The UAE National Agenda for Education is one of the most important strategic initiatives to improve the quality of education across the
UAE. It has focused great attention to developing the education sector, making the United Arab Emirates at the forefront of countries that
provide educational services with international quality. One of the targets of National Agenda is that UAE students must be among the
best in the world in reading, mathematics, and science, and have a strong knowledge of the Arabic language. Measurements of
achievements in these targets include the ‘Program for International Student Assessment’ (PISA) test and the ‘Trends in Mathematics
and Science Studies’ (TIMSS) test. The PISA test took place in 2018, while TIMSS was administered in 2019. Targets for the National
Agenda were set for each school, and these contribute to National UAE targets.
In preparation for schools to achieve these targets, all private schools in Sharjah will be required to undertake a number of assessments
and other related curriculum enrichment activities. These additional activities, aligned with the curriculum, could include entering students
into a number of approved national and international assessments, as well as adjusting the way the chosen curriculum is planned and
delivered as part of your continuous school improvement journey. This would include implementing new initiatives to address students’
learning needs as identified in schools’ improvement plans. The table below shows the mandatory required assessments.
Test Targeted Grades Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) For 15-year-old students (Grade 10) PISA-Based Tests for Schools (PBTS) for students in grade 10 Trends in International Mathematics and Science (TIMSS) for students in grade 4 & 8 Progress in International Reading Study (PIRLS) for students in grade 4 Cognitive Ability Test Cognitive Ability Test – CAT 4 grades 3, 5, 7 and 9 (schools may opt to take CAT4 for other grades) NWEA MAP (three times a year) English (Reading / Language Usage, Mathematics and Science)
Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
These assessments scores are not counted in students ‘report card total average. The purpose of these assessments is to inform about teaching and
learning and to benchmark our students against their peers internationally. Internal Assessment Marks Distribution Beaconhouse Al Khaleej International School administers blended Assessment (Online and offline) for this academic Year. Each Subject
has developed common agreements on grading and reporting that best support student learning at each level. The grading system is
skill-based and tracks students’ performance in each skill related to the standards of the assessed subject. Skills are assessed through
summative and formative approaches.
The following tables illustrate the grades distribution for all the skills related to the taught subjects during year. KG 1 Reading Writing Listening

Reporting and Parent Conferences Communicating with parents is an essential part of the student-parent-teacher partnership. Teachers continually communicate student
progress both formally and informally. Parents have access to school Information System through paradigm so they can regularly
monitor their children progress and track their ongoing summative and formative grades.
Report cards are issued to all students three times a year at the end of each term. in January, April, and July.
Report cards demonstrate the academic progress students are making in the form of quantitative marks. All school reports are
paperless and available via Paradigm (SIS). Student transcripts show both percentage and letter grades at the end of each term.
Parents will be notified when to log on to portal at the end of each term in order to check their child’s academic progress, effort, and
grade point average. Absences and tardiness are also noted.
Parent Conferences are held twice a year in November and February. At these conferences, student progress is reviewed by the
teacher and parents. Conferences between parents and teachers are helpful in creating an understanding with regard to educational
goals and objectives, solving problem situations, developing plans for helping students at home, and informing parents of student
progress.
