Welcome MessageIt is our great pleasure to welcome you to the annual HKSTENT – Cardiovascular Intervention Complication Forum (CICF) on 14 – 15 March 2015 in Hong Kong.
HKSTENT is the first and only formal Interventional Cardiology Society registered as a charitable organization under the Inland Revenue Department of Hong Kong. It was founded with the aim of promoting education, research, and advancement of Interventional Cardiology in Hong Kong and Asia for the benefit of interventionists, cardiologists, allied health workers, and the general public at large.
As the first-of-its-kind meeting in Asia with focus on the management of cardiovascular intervention complication, we are proud to have world renowned expert Dr Eric Eeckhout as Program Co-Director in our Forum. Unique to the program is a series of case based lectures on tips & tricks in managing complication, interactive case studies with experts, allied health session, stimulator training on complication management and challenging case competition.

Jaclyn CHAN (Hong Kong)Dr Jaclyn Chan obtained the medical degree from the University of Hong Kong in 2003 and obtained FHKAM (Medicine) in 2012. She also undertook cardiology training at San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan. She is currently a cardiologist in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at Kwong Wah Hospital.
Heung-wan CHEUNG (Hong Kong)Ms Heung-wan Cheung works in Coronary Care Unit and general medical ward in Prince of Wales Hospital since she has completed training in the nursing school.
During these years she has obtained the MSc (Nursing) from the HK Polytechnic University.
Ms Cheung is now the member of the Specialty Advisory Group (Cardiology) HA and the Nurse Consultant (Cardiac Care) in NTEC.
Mei-yee CHEUNG (Hong Kong)Ms Mei-yee Cheung is currently working as a registered nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Interventional Centre of the Hong Kong Sanatorium Hospital. She graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong where she earned a bachelor degree in nursing in 2004. She completed her master of nursing in the critical care stream at The University of Hong Kong. She possesses the experience in various specialties including medical, intensive care and cardiology.
Eric EECKHOUT (Switzerland)Dr Eric Eeckhout is Director of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at the University Hospital Chuv in Lausanne Switzerland. He has been involved in the organisation of the Annual Congress of the European Society of Cardiology and remains implicated at the Euro- and Asia PCR Meetings. He is a member of the Editorial Board of several Cardiology journals. His clinical interest covers a broad field of Interventional Cardiology.

Hee-hwa HO (Singapore)Dr Hee-hwa Ho graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1997 and completed his cardiology training at Queen Mary Hospital in 2004. He undertook an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship program in 2006 at New York Presbyterian Weill-Cornell Hospital, USA.
Dr Ho joined the Department of Cardiology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore in 2010 and is currently a Senior Consultant Cardiologist. He leads the department in clinical research and has published widely in numerous peer-reviewed journals. His interests include primary PCI, acute coronary syndrome and intracoronary imaging. He is co-chairing the Asia Primary Angioplasty Congress (APAC) this August in Singapore.

Biography of SpeakersYuji IKARI (Japan)Prof Yuji Ikari, MD, PhD, FACC, FESC, is Professor of Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Tokai University. He graduated from Nagoya University School of Medicine, Japan in 1986. During the governmental approval trial of Palmaz-Schatz stent in 1991, he found that bleeding complication was the Achilles tendon of coronary stenting. Then, he started transradial intervention (TRI). He designed the patent-approved IKARI guiding catheter for TRI in 1995. He has done many TRI studies, one of which titled “The physics of guiding catheters for the left coronary artery in transfemoral and transradial interventions” was well-known for its originality in hypothesis. He studied vascular pathology in University of Washington, Seattle, USA from 1996 to 1999. He is a core member of Slender Club Japan as well as the editor-in-chief of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics (CVIT).
Brian KO (Austraila)Dr Brian Ko is an interventional cardiologist, cardiac CT angiographer and research cardiologist at Monash HEART, Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, Australia. He is currently appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at Monash University.
He graduated with honours at the University of New South Wales and completed his cardiology training at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. He undertook an interventional fellowship at MonashHEART in Melbourne and graduated from his PhD in Medicine at Monash University. His research interests include the role of fractional flow reserve and CT angiography in interventional cardiology and the functional assessment of coronary arteries using cardiac CT including CT stress myocardial perfusion imaging and non-invasive CT FFR. He has published extensively in various journals such as Journal of the American College of Cardiology, JACC cardiovascular imaging, European Heart Journal, European Radiology, Eurointervention, Journal of Cardiovascular CT and Medical Journal of Australia.
Ryan Lap-yan KO (Hong Kong)After completing his cardiology training at the Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong, Dr Ryan Lap-yan Ko gained further overseas specialized training at the Royal Brompton Hospital and also at the Heart Hospital of the UCLH Trust in London, United Kingdom.
Dr Ko has extensive experience in general clinical cardiology as well as in interventional cardiology, with a special interest in coronary artery intervention and structural heart disease intervention.
Since 2010, Dr Ko has been heavily involved with the development of TAVI and the MitraClip in Hong Kong and was successful in performing some of the first MitraClip procedures in the North Asia region.
U-po LAM (Macau)Dr U-po Lam is currently the Consultant of Cardiology, Department of Cardiology in Macau Central Government Hospital.

Biography of SpeakersJae-Hwan LEE (South Korea)Dr Jae-Hwan Lee, MD, PhD, is currently Associate Professor in Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, Chungnam National University Hospital, South Korea. He graduated from Chungnam National University. He completed his cardiology fellowship at Asan Medical Center and graduated from his M.S. and PhD in Internal Medicine at Graduate School of Medical Science, University of Ulsan. He completed visiting professor program at Columbia University Medical Center, NY, USA in the field of peripheral intervention. He has been member of various scientific societies.
Micheal Kang-yin LEE (Hong Kong)Dr Michael Kang-yin Lee (MBBS(HK), MRCP(UK), FRCP(Edinburgh & Glasgow), FACC, FAHA, FSCAI, FAPSIC, FHKCP, FHKAM (Medicine)) is currently the Consultant Cardiologist of the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong. In 2010, Dr Lee established the Hong Kong Society of Transcatheter Endo-cardiovascular Therapeutics (HKSTENT) and became the Founding President. Dr Lee has been appointed the Chairman of the Research Committee of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC) since 2013 and serves as the Chairman of the Asian Pacific TAVI Registry Steering Committee. In Queen Elizabeth Hospital, he is the doctor-in-charge of the Cardiac Ambulatory Care Centre and the Structural Heart Program. His special interests include Interventional Cardiology (Coronary and Structural Heart Interventions) and AMI/ACS management. He helped to establish the TAVI program in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and performed the first TAVI case in Hong Kong in 2010. He is currently helping the Hospital Authority to establish Primary PCI program and TAVI program in Hong Kong.
Irene Man-yee LEUNG (Hong Kong)Ms Irene Man-yee Leung is currently the Advanced Practice Nurse of the Coronary Care Unit at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital. She is also the Member of Hong Kong Cardiac Nursing Association Ltd. (HKCNA).
Jian-fang LUO (China)Dr Jian-fang Luo is currently the Consultant Cardiologist of the Department of Cardiology at Guangdong General Hospital, Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences in China. He has been practicing in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine for over twenty years during which he has acquired excellent techniques in the intervention treatment of coronary artery disease.

Paul ONG (Singapore)Dr Paul Ong graduated from University of Cambridge in 1990 and obtained the cardiology training in London. He worked as a Consultant Cardiologist and Cathlab Director at the Lister Hospital and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Harefield Hospital, UK.
After more than 20 years in the UK, Dr Ong relocated to Singapore in 2009 and is currently a Senior Consultant Cardiologist and Head of Interventional Cardiology Services at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His specialty interests are in primary angioplasty, intravascular imaging and device therapy. He has over 30 major publications in his fields of interest.
Dr Ong has chaired and presented in numerous international meetings. He also travelled extensively in various parts of Asia to proctor and support new cardiac units. He is co-chairing the first Asian Primary Angioplasty Conference this August in Singapore.
Seung-Woon RHA (South Korea)Dr Seung-Woon Rha graduated from the medical school of Korea University. He has finished internship and residency of internal medicine at Korea University Hospital. After the clinical fellowship training in general cardiology and cardiovascular intervention at Korea University Hospital, he moved to Washington Hospital Center, Washington DC for further research study from 2003 to 2004. From 2004, he is working as a Professor at Cardiovascular Center in Department of Internal Medicine, Korea University Guro Hospital. He is currently the Director of Cardiovascular Center, Cardiac Catherization Laboratory and Div of Cardiovascular Intervention and Research Institute (CIRI) in Korea University Guro Hospital.
He is a famous expert in cardiovascular intervention, particularly complex coronary and peripheral intervention including CTOs. He is operating regular CCI (Complex Cardiovascular Intervention) training program and annual Guro Live at his institute. Furthermore, he is operating ‘international research fellowship course’ for international interventionists.
He is a course director of CTO live at TCT-AP, faculty and scientific committee of TCT-AP and Encore Seoul meeting. He has served as a regular faculty for a variety of international meetings including KSC, KSIC, CRT, C3, CCT, TOPIC, Japan CTO Club, Asian PCR, HKSTENT and LINC-AP meeting.
He has published over 296 peer-reviewed journals and has presented 1830 abstracts in a variety of international scientific meetings until the end of 2014.
Gaku NAKAZAWA (Japan)Dr Gaku Nakazawa is currently the Associate Professor of the Department of Cardiology at Tokai University. He graduated from Toho University School of Medicine in 2000 and had completed his cardiology fellowship at Mitsui Memorial Hospital in 2006. He had been a Cardiovascular Research Fellow at CVPath Institute, Inc. in USA and obtained his PhD at Tokai University School.
Dr Nakazawa is a fellow of American College of Cardiology and the Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics. He has served as a regular faculty in various international meetings, including TCTAP, Imaging & Physiology Summit, CCT and TOPIC.

Ramesh Singh VERIAH (Malaysia)Dr Ramesh Singh is currently the Consultant Cardiologist and a Senior Lecturer in Cardiology and Internal Medicine of University Malaya Medical Centre. He is also the Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Internal Physician in University Malaya Specialist Centre. His main interest included interventional cardiology, preventive and rehabilitative cardiology. He is extensively involved in both local and international multi-centre studies. Apart from cardiology based research, his other area of research interest included research Erectile dysfunction.
Eugene Brian WU (Hong Kong)Dr Eugene Brian Wu is currently the Associate Consultant in Cardiology and Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at Prince of Wales Hospital, and Clinical Assistant Professor (Honorary) of Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University Hong Kong.
Dr Wu is also one of the Founding Directors of Hong Kong Society of Transcatheter Endo-cardiovascular Therapeutics (HKSTENT).
Kensuke YOKOI (Japan)Dr Kensuke Yokoi is currently working as a Specially Appointed Fellow of the Department of Advanced Cardiovascular Therapeutics at the Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan. His primary focus is complex PCI, including PCI for chronic total coronary occlusions and imaging guided PCI (IVUS and CT).
Satoru SUMITSUJI (Japan)Professor Sumitsuji is currently the Associate Professor of Advanced Cardiovascular Therapeutics (Cardiology), Osaka University. He is also the Board Member of the Japanese Society of Interventional Cardiology and the Japanese Society of Cardiovascular Imaging & Dynamics. His recent interest is Imaging (IVUS, CT) guided Complex-PCI (including CTO-PCI).
Prof Sumitsuji has been invited as a main operator for more than 50 live demonstrations in major international cardiovascular conference. He has been introducing PCI treatment with the help of imaging technologies especially in intravascular ultrasound and heart CTs for more than 300 cases in the host facilities of live courses.
He was invited as an operator, and also as a preceptor not only in Japan but also in Asia, Oceania, Middle East, and USA in recent years.
