The Second Idea Camp was conducted during 27th–29thOct’17 at Forge Accelerator, Coimbatore. 25 teams

from various colleges from Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Vellore & Madurai participated. Dr.Rajendra Kumar,

IAS Principal Secretary/Director (I/c), EDII addressed the students on the need for innovation and startups. 7

teams from the above were selected for the next level.

Thiru Viswanathan Sahasranamam, Vice President & CEO and Dr. Lakshmi Meera, Programme Director, Forge

Accelerator coordinated the programme and handled the technical sessions.

TAMIL NADU STUDENT INNOVATORS 2017 – IDEA CAMPSEDII-TN and Forge Accelerator, Coimbatore organised two 3-day residential Idea Camps for students’

teams from various colleges with the aim of the training the teams on problem-validation and customer-

discovery in further shaping their innovative ideas.

The First Idea-Camp was held during 12th-14th,Oct’17 at Forge Accelerator, Coimbatore. 27 teams (70

students in total) from various institution participated in the programme. 7 teams were shortlisted for

attending the Boot-Camp to be held in Nov-Dec, 2017. The teams were mentored by various industry

experts in fine tuning their ideas and understand the customer needs.

LEVERAGING HERBAL RESEARCH FOR BIO-ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The workshop was inaugurated in splendour by Dr.P.M.Murali, Chairman, Golden Jubilee Biotech Park,

President (Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises) and MD & CEO of Evolva, Dr. Mohd Aslam, Advisor,

Department of Biotechnology, Dr. Shakthi Vinay Shukla, Director, Fragrance & Flavour Development Centre

(FFDC), Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, Dr. R.Gnanam, Director, CPMB&B, TNAU and Tmt. Shajeevana,

Additional Director, EDII.


The Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Government of Tamil Nadu (EDII) and Tamil-

Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore jointly organized a Conference with the theme of

‘Leveraging Herbal Research for Bio-Entrepreneurship’. Department of Biotechnology, Government of India

collaborated in this initiative as a knowledge partner. The main thrust of the conference is to Promote R&D

on herbals as a potential bio-entrepreneurship opportunity.


On 11th October 2017, students and entrepreneurs were given hands on training and business plan preparation

guidance.

On 12th October 2017, panel discussion sessions were held and deliberated on:

• Key strategies in terms of regulatory guidelines, research material availability, potential technologies for

commercialization etc for emerging start-ups in this area.

• The current herbal industry landscape in India, its role in advancing development, and the future potential

for this sector.



The event brought together about 200 participants to discuss opportunities, collaborate and prepare a joint

action plan for catalysing Tamil Nadu’s growth as a leading hub for bio-entrepreneurship. The participants

included policy makers, eminent biologists, Government officials, university/college delegations, industry

representatives, research fellows, students, start-up entrepreneurs and so on.

India is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of biodiversity, has 15 agro-climatic zones. Tamil

Nadu ranks 1st among all the States in the Country, and also nearly 1/3rd of the total flora of India.

Medicinal plants are not only a major resource base for the traditional medicine & herbal industry but also

provide livelihood and health security to a large segment of Indian population. India is among one of among

the top 12 biotech destinations in the world with over 800 companies and the industry growth is primarily

driven by vaccines and recombinant drugs. However biotechnology based natural product research and

development has huge potential. With the new guidelines on phytopharmaceuticals the industry is poised for

higher growth. Therefore this workshop was organized to provide a platform for knowledge sharing between

key stakeholders and identified the scope and challenges of bio-entrepreneurship through the R&D on herbal

remedies.

A Think Tank programme was organized by EDII-TN, Forge and Anna University Regional Campus,

Tirunelveli on 21-10-2017 under the caption ‘Smart Tirunelveli’. The objective of event was to gather

validated problems faced by various sectors which can be taken up by innovators to find solutionsunder

Tamil Nadu Innovation Grand Challenge (TNIGC) program. The Think Tank workshop was inaugurated

by Thiru Sandeep Nanduri I.A.S. District Collector, Tirunelveli. In his inaugural address the District

Collector narrated the steps taken by Tirunelveli administration to convert Tirunelveli a smart city. Thiru

Sakthinathan, Dean, Anna University, Tirunelveli welcomed the gathering and briefed the participants

about the activities taken up by the University to solve various technical issues faced by Tirunelveli

Municipality and other departments.

THINK TANK WORKSHOP UNDER THE TITLE "SMART TIRUNELVELI''

EDII-TN was represented by Addl. Director and DD PMO-IEDP, who narrated the initiatives of EDII-TN to

encourage entrepreneurship and innovations in the state. Mr Viswanathan, Forge Accelerator briefed the

activities of Forge under THIGC. Representatives from various departments of both State and Central

Governments, Colleges and industries participated.

Under Business Facilitation Service Programme, our Partner Institutes are trained to conduct 5 internal

meetings of Mentors/Mentees every month. Such meetings are designed to bring about a change in the MSME

ecosystem in Tamilnadu.

5-DAY MEETING OF MENTORS/MENTEES


UYEGP-EDP

UYEGP-EDP training at EDII, Chennai was conducted between 03.10.17-11.10.17 . 28 participants attended

the training programme.

EDII, Chennai hosted the MultiCity Accelerator Program & Pitch Session in partnership with Startup Tunnel,

Delhi and Forge Accelerator, Coimbatore on 7th Oct. 2017 to catalyse Technology Business Innovations and

Enterprise Creation in the State of Tamil Nadu. 9 startups pitched their ideas for funding.

Mr. Aditya Dev Sood, Founder and Chief Mentor, Startup Tunnel, Mr. Vishwanathan Sahasranamam,

Forge Accelerator and Mr. Saurabh Tanish Arora, Freshdesk participated. Addl. Dir EDII represented EDII

and interacted with the startups along with the above team.

MULTICITY ACCELERATOR PROGRAM & PITCH SESSION


A FDP programme was organised at the Anna University Regional Campus, Tirunelveli Hub, during 04th-06th

October, 2017. 30 members from spoke colleges attended the programme.Mr.Sampath Kumar, Master

Trainerhandled the technical sessions along with Mr.Ashok kumar from Salem hub.Participants in groups gave

presentation about entrepreneurship, Sales, Communication etc. Each group was evaluated & suggestion was

given by the faculty at the end of their presentation.Mr. Dr Silas Sargunam, Hub Coordinator and Siva

Baarathi, Field Coordinator coordinated the arrangements.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (FDP)

IEDP review meeting was held on 13.10.17 with NEN and Field Coordinators of hubs. Addl.

Director, EDII-TN welcomed the gathering. Mr Agsar, Director NEN spoke the various modules and

interacted with FCs in detail. Status of the LW-100 programme, Institution on-boading, pending

certificates and schedules for FDP-101, colleges active under each Hub were discussed in length. FCs

expressed that college are really interested in the content provided under Learnwise.


IEDP-REVIEW MEETING


EDII-TN conducted Business Coordinator Training on 05.10.2017 under BFSP. The representatives of

TIDITSSIA, Tiruchirapalli, MADITSSIA, Madurai, THUDITSSIA, Thoothukudi, EEDISSIA, Erode,

NELSTIA, Tirunelveli and TANDISTIA, Kumbakonam participated in the event. "Mentors Manual' and

'Business Coordinator Manual' were explained to them. Mobile Mentoring, Weekly reporting, Mentee

Monitoring and details of various committee meetings were explained to them. Hands on Training was given

for 'Entrepreneur Clinic' and 'Mobile Mentoring'.

Participants made a unit visit and observed the methods of guiding the Mentee Entrepreneur. The reporting

forms under BFSP were filled during unit visit to train the participants. 12 Entrepreneurs were benefited.

TRAINING ON 'MOBILE MENTORING' AND ' ENTREPRENEUR CLINIC'


The 'Entrepreneur Clinic' is an event conducted every Thursday at Chennai, Thoothukudi, Madurai, Tirunelveli

and Erode. New and existing Entrepreneurs are encouraged to Walk in for free guidance from experienced

Mentors about their business issues. They can learn how to start business activities and register for 1 day

Enttrepreneur Awareness Camp as well as for 5 days Business Plan Preparation training. During October the

'Entrepreneur Clinic' was conducted on 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th and about 200 Entrepreneurs got benefited in

aggregate.

ENTERPRISE CLINIC

One Day Workshop on Cluster Level Strategic Plan was conducted at EDII Chennai on 31.10.2017 by inviting

all Cluster association members and stakeholders. The session was handled by ASK.Sharma, Faculty from

Foundation for MSME Clusters.

The purpose of this workshop was to create awareness on various activities that can be undertaken by clusters

beyond Common Facility Centre (CFC) creation.

Inauguration function of 5-day Training for Women in Rural Entrepreneurial and Marketing at Hotel Tamil

Nadu, Mamallapuram ON 06.10.2017. This Programme was conducted by EDII on behalf Tamil Nadu Tourism

as a part of Gender Action Plan Programme.



INAUGURATION FUNCTION OF 5-DAY TRAINING FOR WOMEN IN RURAL ENTREPRENEURIAL AND MARKETING

Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute, Chennai conducted Workshop on Cluster Mapping

Study at EDII campus, Chennai on 10.10.2017. Thiru. C.Babu, President, TANSTIA inaugurated the program.

Tmt. R.V.Shajeevana, Additional Director, EDII briefed the participants about the purpose of this study

workshop conducted by EDII.

Various Government officials from DIC, SIDCO, MSME-Di, KVIC, Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development

Corporation attended the meeting along with the cluster members.

WORKSHOP ON CLUSTER MAPPING STUDY AT EDII, CHENNAI


25 days EDP for NEEDS candidates organised between 09.10.17-10.11.17 & Unemployed Youth Employment

Generation Programme 7 days EDP between 05.10.17-12.10.17 at Dharmapuri . Overall 44 participants

attended the training programme. at Dharmapuri .

EDII on behalf of Tamil Nadu Tourism Department conducted Gender Sensitisation Street Play

Performance as a part of Gender Action Plan Programme at Rameswaram on 29-10- 2017.



TRAINING PROGRAM ON SENSITISATION OF WOMEN ON GENDER ISSUE

EDII on behalf of Tamil Nadu Tourism Department conducted 1-day program with Sensitisation of Women on

Gender Issues through Public Hearing as a part of Gender Action Plan Programme at Tourist Spots viz.,

Muttukadu on 03-10-2017, Mudaliarkuppam on 04-10-2017, Mamallapuram on 05-10-2017 and at

Kanniyakumari on 05-10-2017. Community Professionals trained by EDII met the local public along with EDII

officials as part of public hearing. The Participatory Rural Appraisal exercise also conducted at all tourist

spots.

Study at District Industries Centre Hall, Salem on 12.10.2017. 50 participants from various Cluster and

Industrial Associations of Salem / Namakkal / Krishnagiri / Dharmapuri /Cuddalore and Tiruvannamalai

district attended the workshop.

WORKSHOP ON CLUSTER MAPPING STUDY AT SALEM


EDII on behalf of Tamil Nadu Tourism Department conducted Gender Sensitisation Street Play Performance as

a part of Gender Action Plan Programme at Muttukadu on 08-10-2017.


EDII-TN organised TAHDCO-EDP Post Sanction Training Program at Karur-IOB-RSETI inagurated on

05.10.2017 by M.Mathialagan, Tc-1. DM, TAHDCO, LDM, KARUR, AGM, NABARD & PROF & HEAD-

KVK, KARUR participated. 18 Beneficiaries attended. EDII-TN Promo Video & Development Schemes for

SC/ST are also shown.

TAHDCO-EDP POST SANCTION AT KARUR

EDII-TN organised Monthly Network Meet' to enable networking among MSME Entrepreneurs trained by EDII-

TN. The October month meeting was conducted on 27.10.2017 at 5 p.m Mr. Sureka, an eminent Marketing

expert spoke on 'Marketing for MSME' and gave tips on various marketing strategies which are easy to adopt

but give tremendous benefits.

EDII on behalf of Tamil Nadu Tourism Department conducted Gender Sensitisation Street Play performance

as a part of Gender Action plan Program at Kanniyakumari on 10-10-2017.



The Entrepreneurship Awareness Program under the Business Facilitation Service Program(BFSP) was held

on 24.10.2017, Tuesday between 9.30 a.m to 2.00 p.m. at MADITSSIA Hall, Madurai for the month of

October 2017.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS CAMP (EAC) AT MADURAI


EDII-TN organised a training program on EXPORTS/IMPORTS PROCEDURES AND DOCUMENTATION ,for

three days from 10th October to 12th October, 2017 at EDII, Chennai. The participants actively interacted with

the faculty. Altogether 43 participants are participated the training programme.

TRAINING PROGRAM ON EXPORTS/IMPORTS PROCEDURES AND DOCUMENTATION

MUDRA-EDP TRAINING PROGRAM AT CUDDALORE

A MUDRA Training Program 6 days was inagurated at Cuddalore INDSETI on 23.10.2017. Dy. Zonal

Manager Indian Bank, GM, DIC, DM TAHDCO, BM, Indian Bank Thirupapuliur & Nellikuppam attended the

inagural function. 30 MUDRA beneficiaries attended.


MUDRA-EDP TRAINING PROGRAM AT SIVAGANGAI

EDII conducted MUDRA Training Program at Rural Training Centre-Amaravathi Pudur-Sivagangai on

30.10.2017. 31 beneficiaries attended. Our EDII Promo video was displayed.


ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS CAMP (EAC) AT MADURAI

The Entrepreneurship Awareness Program under the Business Facilitation Service Program(BFSP) was held on

24.10.2017, Tuesday between 9.30 a.m to 2.00 p.m. at MADITSSIA Hall, Madurai for the month of October

2017.


EDII-TN, Chennai organised TNSDC-Sector-Apparel-.Sewing Machine Operator Training-First batch. The

programme was inagurated on 23.10.2017 at kalpakkam. 20 beneficiaries attended the training

program. (Training period 23.10.17-30.11.17).

TRAINING PROGRAM ON SENSITISATION OF WOMEN ON GENDER ISSUE

EDII on behalf of Tamil Nadu Tourism Department organised 1-day program with Sensitisation of Women on

Gender Issues through Public Hearing as a part of Gender Action Plan Programme at Rameswaram on 27-10-

2017. Community Professionals trained by EDII met the local public along with EDII officials as part of public

hearing. The Participatory Rural Appraisal exercise also conducted at several places in Rameswaram.


E-CELL LEADER WORKSHOPSEDII-TN conducted three E-Cell Leader Workshops during the month. The aim of the programme was to

motivate and train the student e-leadersin various entrepreneurship activities that can be taken up at

institutions by the students and to motivate inspire other students in joining e-cell activities.


The first E-Cell Leader Workshop was organised by Sona College of Technology, Salem on 03rd and 04th

October 2017. 38 students from spoke colleges took part in the event.Mr.Kishore Kumar & Mr.Swaminathan,

Technical Coordinators, EDII-TN handled the sessions along with Shri Ashok Kumar, Field Coordinator.

The student E-leaders were trained in various entrepreneurship activities. They were also guided on

organizing and running Campus companies. The participants also successfully participated in one-dollar

venture programme to see the scope and the benefit of entrepreneurship.

The Second E-Cell Leader Workshop was organised by Alagappa University, Karaikudi during 05th and 06th

October, 2017. 53 students from spoke colleges took part. Mr.Kishore Kumar,Technical coordinator, EDII,

and Mr.Adarsh mittal, Field coordinatorSastra Hub handled the technical sessions.

E-CELL LEADER WORKSHOPS

The Third E-Cell Leader Workshop was organised at Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai

during 24th and 25th October, 2017. 28 students from spoke colleges took part in the event of two days.

Dr.Balaji &Dr.Chandran Hub Coordinators& faculty of TCE, handled the sessionsalong with

Mr.Swaminathan, Training Coordinator.


WORKSHOP ON CLUSTER MAPPING STUDY AT TRICHY


Study at District Industries Centre Hall, Tiruchirappalli on 13.10.2017. 52 participants from various Cluster

and Industrial Associations of Tiruchirappalli / Karur / Pudukkottai / Thanjavur / Ariyalur / Nagapattinam /

Thiruvarur and Perambalur district attended the Workshop. Thiru.B.Monikandan, Deputy Director, EDII

briefed the participants about the purpose of this study workshop conducted by EDII.

Various Government officials from DIC, SIDCO etc. attended the meeting along with the cluster members.


Entrepreneur Clinic's were conducted across the state at Chennai Thoothukudi, Erode, Madurai and

Tiruchirrapalli. This happens every Thursday between 3 pm - 5 pm. Experienced Mentors provided Business

Ideation and Direction to enable new/ existing businesses to grow further. Entrepreneurs were also selected

for training to get bank loans. About 46 Entrepreneurs were benefited on 17.8.2017.

EDII-TN organised Business Model & Business Plan Preparation EDP at NADISTIA, Namakkal during

03.10.2017-13.10.2017 with 29 participants



BUSINESS MODEL & BUSINESS PLAN PREPARATION

Under Tourism-Gender cum Tourism Marketing 5 days Training Program at Rameswaram during 28.10.17-

01.11.17 was organised by EDII. Banking schemes session was handled by Tc-1 on 31.10.17. Branch manager,

Indian Bank, Rameswaram inagurated the session. Good response received from the beneficiaries. Branch

Manager, IB, Rameswaram agreed in principle to sanction loans to the eligible beneficiaries under MUDRA.
